OUR STORY & OUR TEAM

We are family

“ This family owned business puts you 1st, from the moment they pick you up at your door to the return to your home. I love that you never have to think about tipping, because the company pays all of them, including drivers, luggage handlers, tour guides, wait staff, etc. The local tour guides are full of local history, funny anecdotes, etc. We loved the summer beauty of the Canadian Rockies and were overwhelmed by the fall color on their Rocky Coast of Maine trip!”

1981

JOE DISCOVERS HIS PASSION

Joe attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated with a degree in American Studies. He enjoyed learning about the American Experience as reflected in its history, culture, architecture, art, music, flora and fauna. He was fascinated by America’s dramatic founding, its revolutionary ideals, system of government, and the historic figures who have put their imprint on our nation’s story.

JOE ENTERS THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY In 1981 Joe landed a job as a tour director. Leading tours throughout North America, Joe realized the best way to learn about the American Experience is through travel — to witness in-person places only described in history books. Travel makes history comes alive.

1988

AMERICAN CLASSIC TOURS IS FOUNDED Joe founded American Classic Tours to design, market and operate upscale, all-inclusive tours throughout America. The tours are infused with an historical perspective in relation to the broader American Experience. The first trip was in May of 1988 to Nashville, Tennessee with Minnie Pearl and Roy Acuff at the Grand Ole Opry!

1989

— Sue, October 2019

With her outgoing personality and great sense of humor Mary was a perfect fit for American Classic Tours. For 30 years Mary has charmed thousands of travelers as a tour director. Mary also is head of our Reservations Department.

1991

JOE MARRIES SHEILA Joe married Sheila, the love of his life, in 1991. While Sheila was primarily focused on raising their four children, she has always been involved in operations at American Classic Tours and has been the supportive backbone to Joe and the team. Sheila has been working full-time at American Classic Tours since 2016.

UNRIVALED QUALITY & UNFORGET

Travel with the

But don't take our word for it, see what our travelers have to say about their American Classic Tours Experience... is is a top of the line tour company. Although I’d Th had three previous tours of Washington DC, the American Classic Tour surpassed all the others, in the knowledge dispensed. Their employees go the extra mile to handle any difficulties that may arise during your travels. The accommodations and dining selections are always top notch; but my favorite service is their home door pick up and return, with all the tips included. We make a lot of travel friends with this group. So many repeat customers is a testimony to the excellent service of this company.

I have taken many tours with American Classic Tours and I highly recommend this company. As I write this I am on the Autumn in the Adirondacks tour. Every trip leader has been has been so caring and they really know the areas we go to and and take excellent care of us. Our tour guide is JD and he is excellent at what he does! I'm now working on what tours to schedule for next year. — Jerri, October 2021

The Canadian Rockies aboard the Rocky Mountaineer was one the best tours we have ever taken. The tour director was always ready to answer questions and help in any way possible. Taking a vacation without worrying about transportation, tipping, luggage handling, what to eat and where to eat (always the best place) made this a worry free tour. Just sit back, relax, enjoy and be pampered. What a way to travel! — Barbara, September 2019

The Canadian Rockies Adventure far exceeded my expectations. The care for details is always evident in your tours with wonderful accommodations & included gourmet meals. The sights were spectacular and fun to enjoy by coach, boats, gondola, Snocoach and of course the famous Rocky Mountaineer. As a single traveler I’ve always felt safe and included by so many likeminded fun loving people. I’m looking forward to more adventures. — Nancy, September 2019

I would highly recommend traveling with American Classic. Traveling with JD and Sheila has been a wonderful experience. They were very knowledgeable and helpful throughout our travels. I hope to travel with them in the future. — Shirley, September 2021

We just returned from the Rose Parade tour. It was a great trip from getting picked up on December 28 to getting home. Friends of ours here in Sun City in Huntley, IL, had told us to expect nothing but the best ... and it was. Now we can look forward to our next trip. — Curt, January 2019

We have done two trips with ACT — New Mexico and Crossing Lake Michigan with Blueberry Picking. Both of our Tour Managers were awesome. We stayed at the best hotels and were served awesome dinners. We really like that tips and extras are included. — Helen, April 2020

American Classic Tours did an excellent job with our tour of Agawa Canyon in Canada and upper Michigan. I have never met a more knowledgeable or professional tour guide. I highly recommend ACT for touring. — Michael, September 2021

This is a great tour company. I have been on five of their tours. It is amazing how they schedule fun activities and great places to visit. Their schedule falls into place like a perfect puzzle. Great teamwork from the people in the office and the tour guide. Highly recommend The Great Pacific Northwest tour.

I just finished my second tour with this company — this one to Maine with JD. I cannot say enough great things about the entire experience. Everything from start to finish was done beautifully. JD was an excellent guide, and he was always one step ahead making sure everything went smoothly. The only suggestion I can make is to the people reading this —book a tour with American Classic!

A CRUISE FOR WINE ENTHUSIASTS AND FOODIES

Averaging less than 80 staterooms, Ama Waterways offers the luxury of personal space in larger staterooms. With fewer guests on board, Ama’s ships have space for luxurious amenities. Relax with a soothing massage after a day of exploring, stay in shape with a small group wellness activity, watch breathtaking castles glide by while enjoying a cocktail up on the Sun Deck.

Ama Waterways expert chefs craft menus that feature exquisite, locally-inspired cuisine as well as traditional, Western offerings. You will enjoy complimentary, unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks during lunch and dinner, as well as sparkling wine and freshsqueezed juices during breakfast. MORE VIEWS: TWIN BALCONIES ON ALL CRUISES Sophisticated, contemporary, and elegantly appointed, your spacious stateroom serves as your personal oasis for rejuvenation. Together, they provide a unique panoramic view of the beautiful sights along the river while inviting both fresh air and natural light inside. With twin balconies, you can enjoy the river however you wish. HIGHER ACTIVIT Y LEVEL

International tours are significantly more active requiring considerably more walking, stairs, steep inclines and uneven terrain. All travelers must be in good, robust health to be able to participate in these tours. Handicapped facilities are not available on board Ama ships or in many places visited on the cruises and cruise tours Ama offers.

EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCE: MORE INCLUDED SHORE EXCURSIONS On a river cruise, you don’t just pass through a destination — you experience it with all your senses. Each one of Ama’s sailings is crafted with a paramount goal in mind: connecting you to the essence of life in each place you visit. Ama always make it a point to place guests in small groups. This helps facilitate access to sights and landmarks, a more intimate setting, and more encounters with the locals. Ama is known for having multiple excursions to choose from at each port city.
