News From The Road…
The fall is off to a fast-paced start! The early pasture and online sales have wrapped up and the fall shows are getting ready to kick off with the American Royal in Kansas City as I write this. Our numbers for the fall shows are up again this year and we are looking forward to having a successful fall show season.
Our National Show and Annual Meeting are just around the corner in Louisville, Ky., held in conjunction with the NAILE. The annual meeting will be on Saturday, November 16 at 2pm. The Junior show will be Sunday, Nov. 17 starting at 8 am with the open show on Monday, Nov. 18 at 1 pm.
This year the open show is being dedicated to three special gentlemen who were important to the American Chianina Association and are no longer with us, but are remembered and talked about daily. These guys had a very big impact on the association over the years and were big advocates for the Chianina breed. We hope you can join us for the annual meeting and the shows held in Louisville this year.
Just a reminder about the November 15th consignment deadline for the National Sale at the Cattleman’s Congress in Oklahoma City, Okla., in January. This is an exciting sale and a great way to showcase your Chianina and Chiangus genetics. We already have some exciting lots consigned and this will be the best set to date of genetics to add to
your herd. Please let Heather or myself know if you plan on consigning to this year’s sale. The consignment form can be found on the ACA website, or contact Heather and she can send you a link to the online consignment form.
If you have weaned or are finishing up weaning your calves this fall be sure to get your calves registered and weaning weights turned into the office. I also would encourage you to genomic test all your calves that you register. This does a couple things for you – it gives you higher accuracies in the animals EPD profile and it also parent verifies the animal. You can also test them for any genetic defects that may be possible. If you get this done when you wean then it is already taken care of if the animal goes on to be a donor female or A.I. sire. Contact the office for all your DNA needs.
We are looking forward to the next 3 months of seeing everyone on the road at shows and the annual meeting. The best part of our staff’s job is seeing and visiting with you the members while in Kansas City, Louisville, Oklahoma City, Denver and Ft Worth! It’s always great to bring everyone together!

Let's Keep Building

As a breed we have been in a building phase the last few years across the board! Our junior membership is skyrocketing, registration numbers are on the rise and I truly believe our Junior National is one of the best in the country, if not the best! We as breeders need to keep pushing the envelope as well! We need to keep raising good stock and staying progressive, trying to bring more diversity to our breed! We need to collectively make an effort to keep pushing and participating in our breed sales that we have in Oklahoma City or any other sales that the association puts on. We have a great breed and the cattle themselves are as highquality as any breed out there. Let’s continue to show that off!
The Supreme Drive at Junior Nationals was very impressive and was a great display of what we are trying to progressively do as an Association. As a board, as breeders and as Chi enthusiasts we need to keep pushing the envelope! Let’s show off the quality of our cattle, not just in the show ring but in production as well! Think about making a consignment for Oklahoma City and participate within the breed! We can keep improving and making this breed better, but we need to all collectively buy in! Be thinking about consignments you may have for the sale and reach out to Dustin if you have any questions!

AJCA 50/50 Raffle Announcement
The AJCA Junior Board of Directors is conducting a 50/50 raffle to raise funds for the 2025 Junior National in Louisville, KY. Tickets are on sale now through the 2025 NJHS. The winning ticket will be drawn at junior nationals. The lucky ticket holder will take home half the winnings, and the remaining half will go to the AJCA. Winner need not be present to win. Look for a junior board member at an upcoming show to get your tickets!

It's Fall, Y'all!

As we enter one of my favorite times of year, I can’t help but reminisce about the past 5-6 months of chaos, which we somehow managed to navigate. Summer seemed to fly by, but I’m definitely happy to see fall arrive, bringing cooler temperatures and gorgeous foliage. The farmers are in full speed harvesting, sales are occurring every day, and each of you are preparing for the winter major season. Never a shortage of things to do.
As we look ahead, the North American brings a lot of excitement for us each year, as it’s the first major event where our new royalty will be representing the Auxiliary and ACA. Plus, you can never get tired of those iconic green shavings. From there, we get to enjoy the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, before embarking on the OKC, NWSS and FWSS marathon. I look forward to seeing so many of you at these various upcoming events!
With that, it’s also time to collect 2025 dues. The QR code below is an easy way to pay, or we can collect dues in person at the upcoming events. If you’d like to join, or get involved, we’d love to have you! It’s that time of year to elect officers and discuss scholarship plans for 2025. 2024-2025 All-American Shows Announced
The shows listed below have been designated as All-American Point Shows for the 2024-2025 show season. Points will be tallied from junior and open shows if applicable.

Mailed Registration Papers Now Optional
As digital papers are becoming more widely accepted at shows, members now have the option to select whether or not to have a registration paper mailed to them. When processing your registrations in DigitalBeef there is a check box for this option on the calf recording line. It will default to mailing you a paper, but if you prefer to not receive a mailed paper, simply unclick the box. If you have questions, please contact the office for assistance.
DNA & Genetic Testing Requirements
All sires intended for use with artificial insemination (A.I.) must be blood typed or DNA tested before semen is distributed.
A. DNA Testing on AI Sires and Donor Females
1. All AI sires and donor dams must be DNA parent verified before calves will be registered.
2. All ACA registered AI sires will be required to be tested for genetic abnormalities recognized as monitor status by the ACA based on breed make up before calves will
be registered in herds outside that of the current owner, unless they are Expected Free by Pedigree. If the AI Sire is not a registered ACA sire but is registered with another association, the sire’s status for breed relevant genetic abnormalities must be known per their breed makeup. If AI sire is “commercial”, it must be tested for all genetic abnormalities the ACA monitors.
3. Embryo donor dams currently registered in the ACA herd book will only be required to be tested for genetic abnormalities of which they have been identified as being a suspect. Donor dams registered with another association must meet those association’s requirements. Unregistered (Commercial) donor dams must be tested for all genetic abnormalities regardless of breed makeup.
B. All embryo donor cows must be blood typed or DNA tested.
When parentage is questioned, blood typing or DNA testing will be required and the questioning party shall bear all the cost. For blood typing or DNA testing materials you must contact the ACA office for instructions or referral to a laboratory approved by the ACA.
C. DNA on All Herd Sires
1. ALL AI ACA registered bulls born after January 1, 2017 must be DNA parent verified before their progeny can be registered.

Cow/Calf Pairs Change in Show Classifications
At the Spring 2024 meeting, the Board of Directors voted to pull the cow/calf classes from the heifer show and select a Champion Cow/Calf Pair in additional to a Champion Heifer at all junior and open shows sponsored by the ACA. This takes effect immediately for the 2024-2025 show season. This means a Champion Heifer will be selected from the divisions within the heifer show and a cow/calf champion will be selected from the Cow/Calf class.

Please note, registration papers will not mail if a balance is due and memberships are set back to inactive status if balance is not paid before logging out. Photos Needed for Breed Promotion
The ACA is in need of current photos to use for breed promotion throughout various publications, brochures and other media. While you are out in your pastures, take some photos of your cattle and email to Heather at heather@chicattle.org. We need photos of bulls, females, calves, herds, feedlot photos, kids working with their calves and more. The options are endless. Thanks for your assistance is helping us promote this breed we all love.

1. Steers must be registered and transferred to an ACTIVE junior member on or before the entry deadline. (The actual day the work was done)
2. Awards will be paid to the junior member after both an official photograph and press release from show officials have been received by the ACA (information can be emailed to heather@chicattle.org).
3. If the show offers a division for Chianina steers, the steer must be shown as a Chianina.
