VOLUNTEER EXCHANGE CONNECTIONS

We started this month with an inspiring Exchange Program, bringing together American Spaces volunteers from Chișinău, Bălți, and Ungheni. It was more than just a meeting, it was a day filled with teamwork, reflection, and celebration.

From the very beginning, volunteers took part in engaging team-building activities that helped them connect and strengthen friendships. Laughter and conversations filled the room as they worked together, learning more about one another in a fun and interactive way.

One of the most meaningful moments of the day was when each volunteer wrote a letter to their future self. In these letters, they reflected on their journey, their personal growth, and the goals they hope to achieve as part of the American Spaces community. These heartfelt messages will serve as a reminder of their dedication and aspirations.

In addition to these activities, volunteers had the opportunity to learn from Rebecca Stuch, a PhD candidate in Innovation in Global Development at Arizona State University. She led a training session on how to engage an audience, providing valuable tips and strategies that will help volunteers communicate effectively in their roles

The day ended with volunteers coming together to sing and celebrate. It was a joyful moment as everyone enjoyed the experience.

This exchange program was more than just an event, it was a chance to build connections, gain new skills, and create lasting memories.

On March 13, America House Bălți hosted a fascinating Meet US session featuring Eliza Shaffer, a dedicated Peace Corps Volunteer, who took us on an exciting journey through the world of science fiction films. This engaging discussion brought together curious minds eager to explore how sci-fi cinema reflects and shapes our understanding of society, technology, and the future.

During the session, participants analyzed how iconic sci-fi films address critical themes such as artificial intelligence, space exploration, dystopian societies, and the ethical dilemmas of scientific progress. Movies like Interstellar, Blade Runner, and The Matrix sparked engaging debates on the impact of technology and the boundaries of human imagination.

Eliza Shaffer guided the audience through the historical evolution of the genre, highlighting how early sci-fi films reflected contemporary anxieties about war and the unknown, while modern productions challenge us to rethink reality itself. Attendees shared their perspectives, debating whether artificial intelligence could ever surpass human intelligence or if space colonization is a realistic future for humankind.

The interactive format of the session allowed participants to express their ideas, ask questions, and exchange thoughts, making the discussion lively and enriching.

America House Bălți offers monthly Meet US sessions, giving you the chance to speak with native speakers and learn more about American culture. These sessions provide a great opportunity to practice English, ask questions, and share your thoughts in a welcoming environment.

Join us for our next Meet US session and continue exploring new topics with native speakers!

Explore new ideas, connect with others, and let your curiosity lead the way!

On March 18th and 25th, America House Bălți hosted a fun celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, focusing on how Americans celebrate this popular holiday. Led by American Spaces Volunteer Virginia Rotaru, the event gave participants the chance to learn about the American traditions and celebrations associated with St. Patrick’s Day.

The session began with an explanation of how St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in the U.S. Participants learned about the famous parades, like the ones in New York City, and the tradition of wearing green to mark the day. They also explored the American love for festive foods, drinks, and the special way cities like Chicago dye their river green in celebration.

The conversation then turned to the joyful spirit of St. Patrick’s Day in American culture, where it’s not just about Irish heritage, but about fun, unity, and enjoying time with friends and family. Participants had the chance to see how people across the U.S. come together to celebrate, with everyone joining in the festivities regardless of their background.

To make the session more interactive, participants played a fun quiz about St. Patrick’s Day and tested their knowledge of American customs. It was a lively way to learn about how this day brings people together across the country

The event helped everyone understand how St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in the U.S., focusing on the joy and traditions that make it a special part of American culture.
