When Captain Jacques Dautresme docks for the very first time in Shanghai in the 1920s, he is overwhelmed by a sense of déjà-vu. The streets feel familiar, the colours look obvious , the smells around him are like memories. China is his homeland.

It is a story about passion, travels and new encounters.

china In the 1980s, CFOC founder Francois Dautresme spotted a deep black pot at a restaurant in Mongolia.

After lengthy negotiations with the Chinese authorities to obtain permission to export, he discovered a village of potters who had been working with clay for generations. Together, they set about creating the first ceramics for CFOC, and the rest is history...

Chinese ceramic art celebrates the earth, the base material of all creation. A CFOC jar is instantly recognizable and admired for its pure form and spectacular glazing. The Yixing jars, characterized by their speckled effects, are molded in the namesake city, located on the banks of the Blue River.

The Himalaya jars are crafted in Jingdezhen, the Chinese cradle of ceramics and porcelain. They are the result of a complex technique that requires virtuosity and patience: different sections of the jars are turned by four hands and are later assembled to form a complete piece, allowing them to reach remarkable heights.

From the natural resin carefully extracted from the sap of the lacquer tree to expertly crafted Ming trays and stools, all CFOC lacquerware is a testament to a journey through time and space. For us, lacquer is more than just a hallmark, it is our signature in all its glossy glory.

Lacquer sets the tone for each collection, with our original sepia, black, and sand designs more recently joined by Ceylan blue and Mysore pink colorways. Our trays, place mats, and bowls are now available in a total of ten shades, allowing you to choose the perfect color to elevate your table.

The Épopée two-tone lacquered wooden footed trays are designed by the CFOC studio and handcrafted in the Hanoi region of Vietnam.

Artisans carve a piece of wood and apply a natural lacquer, building up multiple layers of color—eight on average— allowing sufficient time for drying and polishing between each one to achieve a smooth, matte finish.

Used as serving dishes or decorative objects, these pieces are ideal for displaying food or other items at different heights.

Resulting from meticulous craftsmanship, Nautilus trays are exceptional pieces made of lacquered wood in a workshop in Vietnam. Inspired by the spherical structure of sea urchins, their geometric patterns feature regular segments that form a central radiation. The surface of the tray, punctuated with micro-reliefs, is composed of thin sheets of motherof-pearl inlaid by hand. This expertise is based on traditional ancestral techniques: the artisans prepare the shells, heat them to flatten them, then cut them according to a precise design before placing them on a lacquered wood base. A succession of layers of lacquer, sanding, and polishing highlights the luster of the mother-of-pearl. The white background adds purity and light, revealing the beauty of a genuine mother-of-pearl.

The Tsarine diningware collection is manufactured in Hakusan, Japan, at a factory that has been operating since 1908. Crafted from the finest bone china, each snow-white piece is accented with striated decorations in relief.

The main component of porcelain, kaolin is a white clay whose name derives from the Chinese “Gaoling”, a quarry in Jingdezhen, China, where abundant deposits of this material were mined. In an artisan workshop in Guangdong Province, China, a mountainous region bordering the sea, craftsmen work with flexible synthetic fibers that perfectly mimic wicker.
