Dear Friends, We hope this finds you and yours well. Because of concerns about COVID, we are not holding our February event that celebrates the work of the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center. Yes, AMC has a new name! Thanks to the generous capital campaign gift of $25 million from Stephen and Christine Schwarzman, the 111-yearold institution has a new name — and new advances for veterinary medicine. Since we won’t be meeting in person, Neil and I want to fill you in on what has happened over the past year.
D
emand for veterinary services across the country skyrocketed last year; perhaps you experienced delays getting appointments with your local vet? The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center alone recorded nearly 60,000 patient visits in 2021. Then, last November, the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center held a groundbreaking ceremony to officially announce the new name and construction project on the 60-year-old hospital building.
It’s huge and much needed: 37,000 square feet of new and renovated space to meet everincreasing veterinary-care demand, allowing for new services enabling cutting-edge technologies. The gift from the Schwarzman family brings the Gift of Love Capital Campaign even closer to the $100 million goal, with over $85 million raised to date. he new hospital building will physically enable the high-quality veterinary care, education, and research AMC has delivered for over 100 years — and now for decades to come. We thank you for your shared interest in this venerable institution. For over 30 years, the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center has meant the world to me and Neil — and, of course, Salem, Mabel, Dixie, and Calvin.
