Brig. Gen. LeRoy Thompson USAF (ret) 1930 - 2021 LeRoy Thompson, beloved husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and friend went home with our Lord on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 in Abilene, Texas. LeRoy was born in Yoakum, Texas on June 9, 1930 to Henry Royal and Bessie Irene Thompson. He was the fifth of eight children.

LeRoy spent just over 41 years serving his country in the United States Air Force and Texas Air National Guard. He retired as Brigadier General, USAF and served as Assistant Adjutant GeneralAir, Texas Air National Guard. LeRoy was thankful to have served as an elder in three congregations of the Church of Christ. LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife Ruri Thompson and his daughter-in-law Jan Thompson. He is survived by his five children: daughter Sandra Pierson and husband Kregg; daughter Diana Poeppelmeyer and husband Joe; son Don Thompson and wife Amy; daughter Patsy Boone and husband Phil; daughter Vicki Adams and husband Blake. Twenty-three grandchildren: Summer, Chad, Kate, Brandon, Will, Chris, Jenny, Seth, Beth, Abrham, Ben, Gracie, Carly, Ben, Jason, Lindsay, Bradyn, Jackie, Justin, Kelsie, Kasey, Mac, and Bryce. Along with the blessing of eighteen great grandchildren: Ava, Pierson, Sadie, Eydie, Gavin, Jude, Madelynn, Kai, Delilah, Delaney, Nora, Jolie, Boone, Cru, Nelli, Blair, Witten and Grady. He is also survived by his sister Jimmie Greenawalt and husband Richard.

Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.

Services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, February 8, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Faith at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held before the service at 1pm. Liz was born on August 21, 1926, in Mills County, Tx, to Hardy Ransom & Willie Collier. She attended school in Starr. In 1946, she married her one & only love, Lloyd Hiller. Together they made Abilene their home in 1957. They raised two kids, James & Loretta. She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and cook, but best at loving and taking care of her family. Liz was a faithful member of Wylie United Methodist Church. Her servant’s heart lead her to serve not only in the church, but in several other community programs. On most Mondays, she and a group of ladies could be found painting fingernails at one of the nursing homes. She enjoyed being a part of the United Methodist Women, RSVP club, Widow Womens group, & Pep Club. Her most favorite title was being “Paw” to her grandkids, great grandkids, and all of their friends. We know there was a large welcoming committee in heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; grandson Justin Hiller; her parents; 3 brothers; 5 sisters; numerous extended family & many close friends. Liz is survived by her son James (Patsy) Hiller of Azle; Loretta Newberry of Abilene; grandson Jeffery (Stephanie) Hiller of Waco; granddaughters: Emily (Trey) Gilmore of Brock and Linsey (Tim) Green of Abilene; great grandkids: Kynlee Gilmore, Kolyer Gilmore, Judson Green, Jolee Green, Courtney Hiller, Max Hiller, Hunter McRae, Madelyn McRae Honorary pallbearers will be her beloved Builders Sunday school class. The family requests donations be made to Wylie United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Big Country.
