ECONOMIC GROWTH IS DRIVEN BY WOMEN “The increase in female employment...has been the main driving force of growth in the past couple of decades… Women have contributed more to global GDP growth than have either new technology or the new giants, China and India.” (The Economist, 2006) Women in the workforce are vital to a company’s success and to the over all economy. Female labor force participation plays an important role in reducing poverty, has a positive correlation with per capita GDP, and can improve a company’s bottom line, just to name a few.

OF UTAH WOMEN OVER THE AGE OF 16 WERE PARTICIPANTS IN THE LABOR MARKET (Department of Workforce Services, 2014)

Women The Utah Women’s Summit is a celebration of the unique culture of Utah and the amazing women who work and live here. This conference is an opportunity for attendees to network, learn and change the way the world sees Utah women. Women in Utah are strong, educated, multi-talented, charitable and vivacious. The focus: Enhance and inspire the lives of all women in Utah. There are a variety of ways to participate as a sponsor. We can work with your company to create the right sponsorship to meet your engagement strategy. We invite your company to participate in this educational conference that celebrates women who do it all. In a New York Times article entitled “U.S. Women on the Rise as Family Breadwinner”, Cathrine Rampell states, “Four in ten American households with children under age 18 now include a mother who is either the sole or primary earner for her family, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of Census and polling data ... This share, the highest on record, has quadrupled since 1960.” This means that an increasing amount of women are providing for their families, which produces more of a need to create balance within the home. The question is, how? Did you know: Females make up roughly half of Utah employment in business/financial operations (48 percent), sales/related (47 percent) and arts/design/entertainment/sports/media (44 percent) occupations* More than 73 percent of Utah’s mothers with only school-age children participate in the labor market* Slightly more than 7 percent of all female Utah workers are self-employed. Less than 5 percent of Utah male workers are self-employed (2012).* In 2012, almost 40 percent of college educated married women, were married to men without a college degree.** * (Department of Workforce Services, 2014) ** (Luscombe, 2014)

WOMEN DRIVING UTAH’S ECONOMY

BALANCE

Utah’s culture suggests that women must possess many titles; mother, wife, provider, friend, socialite, and many others. Along with these titles come expectations and it’s becoming increasingly more important to find balance with those expectations to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle.

EDUCATION

A college education or work force training is more than just a gateway to an affluent lifestyle. Education has implications that reach beyond the workplace, such as increased life satisfaction, a healthier lifestyle, heightened self-esteem and much more.
