On Wednesday, December 17, Oz, 800 Bourbon Street, will host its annual Christmas Party from 8-10pm. Admittance is an unwrapped toy for a child in need. In addition to fabulous food and friends, the club will host its special Xmas Show on stage at 10:30pm. flickin' with brad by Brad Benedict ilk has arrived, and I have to admit that it is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Maybe this is because it makes one want to stand up and cheer while bringing a tear or two now and then. It is something that one can be proud to be a part of but yet something that can make you angry at the same time. It is a movie that portrays quite accurately something of historic proportions. Perhaps it started at Stonewall, but I rather think what happened to Harvey Milk will go down as the moment when gays

became openly militant yet secretly, for many, proud to be gay. Personally, I never cared to see any movie in which Sean Penn starred. I’ve never particularly cared for his private life or his rather militant and arrogant attitude over time or in the way he came to rescue the masses after Hurricane Katrina. However, I cannot picture anyone who could have played this part more realistically or better, and I can only hope that he is noticed when the Oscar nominations come around. He is that good, but it will be an uphill battle

since the theme of the movie may turn off a lot of voters. Along with an excellent supporting cast that included James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Diego Luna, Josh Brolin, Alison Pill, Victor Garber, and all the other main players, each one did such a fine job of recreating the people who were so much a part of this history, and Gus Van Sant has come up with his best effort, in my humble opinion, since My Own Private Idaho. It was especially nice at the end to see each star pictured with a photo to follow of the real people and what had happened to them since the assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk. By using news clips, the reality of the period really came alive, and the

acting was so flawless that you become immersed in the feeling of the period. Josh Brolin took on the roll of Dan White, and what he did can best be described as what put the gay movement on the map. It was a movie part that he really got into, but it was also one that made you want to tear him apart. To also see the hatred that was spewed from Anita Bryant was played to show how misunderstanding and hatred can cause so much damage to people who otherwise are thought to be sick. Van Sant has pictured everyone as human beings, and he has done so by showing all the positive initiatives and hopes of a body of people long thought to be sick but actually standing tall and so far above the bigots of yesterday and today. You won’t particularly like what you see, but you realize it is absolutely the truth. When a gay man is stabbed to death while walking home and the police tend to cast aside any effort to find the perpetrator, you realize that this is not what life is all about. It is something that needs to be corrected, needs to be protested, and needs to be brought out in the open. As a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Harvey Milk changed history by becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into a major public office in America. His victory was not just a victory for gay rights. He forged coalitions across the political spectrum – from senior citizens to union workers. He changed the very nature of what it means to be a fighter for human rights and became, before his untimely death in 1978, a hero for all Americans. Castro became the place where gays could be proud of their heritage and their human rights. Even today, it is a privilege to be able to stand across from the Castro Theater in Harvey Milk Plaza and gaze down Castro and Market streets and see all the gay flags flying proudly for all to see. Harvey Milk made it all possible. He was in many respects a flawed individual, but that could be said for almost everyone. What he did was to inspire others, especially Cleve Jones, and this comes through perfectly in the movie. It is remarkable what he did. He was willing to take risks in order for gays to have equal rights, and it is this same fight that continues today. It was also nice to see how Anne Kronenberg helped the cause. It is an eye-opening experience to know everyone connected to this saga, and this movie does it well. With a superior script by Dustin Lance Black, Harvey Milk’s legacy and the rights of gays throughout the world can be visualized as it happened. He started a movement, and the movement continues. This is a movie that everyone needs to see, gay or straight. It’s a story that needed to be told, and Focus Features has brought it to the screen as they did with Brokeback Mountain. Louisiana Family Recovery Corps’ HEF Program a Resounding Success

aton Rouge, LA – The most recent iteration of the House hold Establishment Funds (HEF) program by the Louisiana Family Recovery Corps proved to be an outstanding success. In a matter of days, the agency pre-screened thousands of applicants and set appointments for nearly 1,700 families and individuals to receive up to $1,500 in rent, utility, and household furnishings assistance via the Recovery Corps’ Household Establishments Funds (HEF) program. The HEF benefits are intended to provide one-time help for families attempting to re-establish or maintain their household as part of their recovery process from hurricanes Katrina or Rita. This disbursement of more than $3 million targeted residents living in six Acadiana parishes. To date, the HEF program has provided assistance to nearly 10,000 households and disbursed approximately $12 million statewide to those attempting to rebuild their lives in the wake of the hurricanes. “Once again, the Louisiana Family Recovery Corps has proven itself as a leader in human recovery,” said Dr. Monteic A. Sizer, Chief of Staff of the Recovery Corps. “Through our outcome-

based programs, we will continue to provide opportunities to residents of Louisiana still struggling to reclaim their lives in the wake of Katrina and Rita.” With appointments made, case managers began meeting with HEF clients today to begin disbursement of the benefits. “The only regret,” admitted Sizer, “is that we could not do more. Based on the overwhelming response to this initiative, it confirmed what we already

knew – that there are many thousands of people just in the six parish area that we were able to serve who are still struggling to recover. The need statewide is only magnified.

Don’t miss it. If you would like to follow up with a nice book about Harvey Milk, you can do this by obtaining a copy of the screenplay. It’s called Milk: The Shooting Script, published by Newmarket Press, with a 16-page color photo insert and priced at $19.95. It is enlightening and insightful not only in the story itself but in the way details are given concerning the behind-the-scenes story of such a significant film. The script, like the movie, captures the indomitable spirit of Harvey Milk. It is a great read with conversations with Dustin Lance Black, Gus Van Sant, and Cleve Jones, who worked closely with Milk. It is a book you will want to keep and display with pride along with a future DVD when it becomes available. For additional reading, find a copy of

in the spotlight After 12 Long Years, the New Orleans AIDS Memorial Dedicated on the Eve of World AIDS Day by Rip & Marsha Naquin-Delain he New Orleans AIDS Memorial dedication was an inspirational hour at Washington Square Park on Sunday, November 30. The afternoon sun was ablaze as Freddy Lanzo’s Brass Band played for the crowd of at least 200 people.

It was dedicated on the eve of World AIDS Day 2008 “To remember, honor, and celebrate; To heal, educate, and empower; To provide hope, compassion, and dignity.” Master of Ceremonies Bryan Batt welcomed and introduced the various speakers on stage in front of the newly installed memorial. Rev. Derrin Harris gave the Invocation followed by a performance by Performing Arts Award winning New Orleans Gay Men’s Chorus. The founder of the AIDS Memorial Project, Susan Levingston, gave a moving rendition of the last 12 years which went into making this memorial a reality. Metropolitan Community Church’s Rev. Clinton Crawshaw addressed the crowd and introduced Gina Brown and Glen Kahrman representing the NO/ AIDS Task Force. Both Gina and Glen spoke on the realities of living with HIV for the long term, Gina for over 14 years and Glen over 22 years. The Keynote Speaker was Rabbi Edward Cohn who shined light on the progress made with the AIDS crisis in New Orleans. The Gay Men’s Chorus sang again ending with Somewhere Over the Rainbow. As they got to the last set of lyrics, “If happy little bluebirds fly,” all of the birds in the trees above the monument flew. You can imagine the elation of the crowd! Was someone or maybe a multitude of souls sending us a message from the heavens? MC Bryan Batt was hysterical when he told the chorus members he was just fine until they had to bring “Judy” into the picture. And yes, he admitted, he’d trained birds back in his college days, and yes, he had the Washington Square birds fly! The Benediction was given by Lazarus House’s Fr. Paul Desrosiers followed by Cantorial Soloist Victoria May. Bryan invited all in attendance to Counseling and Psychotherapy Couples, individuals, communication skills, coming out, relationship issues, grief and substance abuse. As part of the memorial there are numerous memorial paving stones, and memorial benches and inscriptions in both metal and granite. The artist and architects are to be congratulated on the great job they all did including Tim Tate - Design, Mitchell Gaudet - Glass, Brian Borrello and Erica Larkin - Metal, Mark Thomas Landscape Architect, and Sizeler Thompson Brown - Architect.

Washington Square is the Ideal Place for the AIDS Memorial by Lloyd Sensat, Sun Oak in Faubourg Marigny he long delayed New Orleans AIDS Memorial was dedicated Sunday, November 30th at 2 pm in Washington Square Park.The memorial is a sculpture designed by Brian Borillo, and constructed by Erica Larkin and Mitchell Gaudel with landscaping by Mark Thomas. It consists of a series of round glass discs depicting the cast faces of HIV infected individuals, who represent the many faces of AIDS in the region. Tragically, many of the individuals whose faces were cast for the memorial have since died of the disease. The memorial site will also be paved with granite paving stones containing the names of some of those who have died of the disease, or honoring individuals for their efforts in fighting AIDS. To purchase a stone or make a donation for the upkeep of the memorial or more information, contact Susan Levingston at 504.524.1421. Since the mid 70s, Washington Square has been the site of the annual Pride Fest. Washington Square and Faubourg Marigny is the psychological, emotional, and even geographic heart of the long-time New Orleans gay community. The Monument is also a tribute to the talent and creativity of the gays pioneers who invested in a slum neighborhood and transformed it into one of New Orleans most fashionable and desirable places to live. In the beginning AIDS was called the gay men’s disease. But we know now that the AIDS pandemic is the most nondiscriminatory virus ever known. So the Monument is not “the

New Year's Day Party

n New Year’s Day, why not have a welcome in the New Year with a small comfortable gathering of a dozen friends or so. Just don’t start too early in the day, after all we know just how hard it is getting out of bed that morning. Why not start it around noon. RED ROOSTERS A bit of the hair from the dog of the night before. 4 cups cranberry juice cocktail 3 cups orange juice 2 cups vodka

Make up several pitchers of this not-to-sweet beverage, cover them, and chill before the party starts. Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices. HOT ROAST BEEF PARTY SANDWICHES ½ cup finely chopped walnuts 2 (9.25-ounce) packages dinner rolls ½ cup peach preserves (I use sugar free) ½ cup mustard-mayonnaise blend ¾ pound thinly sliced deli roast beef ½ pound thinly sliced Havarti cheese

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Heat pecans in a small non-stick skillet over medium-high heat until lightly toasted. Remove rolls from packages, do not separate. Cut rolls in half horizontally. Spread peach preserves on cut sides of top of rolls. Sprinkle with pecans. Spread mustard-mayonnaise blend over cut side of bottom of the rolls: top with roast beef and cheese. Cover with top halves of rolls, preserves side down, and wrap in aluminum foil. Bake at 325 degrees for thirty minutes or until cheese is melted. Slice into individual sandwiches and serve immediately. FRUITY SALAD WITH SUGARED ALMONDS AND SWEET-HOT VINAIGRETTE 1 head Bibb lettuce, torn 2 five-ounce) packages mixed salad greens 1 fresh peeled and cored pineapple, cut into ½ inch cubes

4 kiwi fruit, peeled and sliced 2 (11-ounce) cans mandarin oranges, drained and chilled 1 cup red seedless grapes, cut in half Sugared Almonds (recipe follows) Sweet-Hot vinaigrette (recipe follows) Toss lettuce and salad greens together in a large bowl. Place lettuce on two serving platters. Top with fruit. Sprinkle with Sugared Almonds and serve with Sweet-hot vinaigrette. Sugared Almonds: 1 cup slivered Almonds ½ cup sugar Stir together both ingredients in large 3 1/2 quart saucepan over medium-high heat, and cook, stirring constantly, eight minutes or until golden and fragrant. Spread mixture in an even layer on lightly greased wax paper on a baking sheet, and let cool twenty minutes. Break into pieces and store in airtight container until ready to use. Sweet-Hot Viniagrette ½ cup vegetable oil ½ cup balsamic vinegar 1/4 cup sugar ½ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon pepper ½ teaspoon hot sauce [continued on Main-18]

eing Written is a novel by William Conescu is one of those books that you find difficult to put down. This is a first novel from a new storyteller, and he is one to watch and collect. Conescu has a delightful flair for writing, and this book is truly a different way to tell a story.

America, the Deep South, and the East Coast. Each section begins with a short introduction of beliefs and taboos for that particular region of the U.S.and the stories that follow depict those taboos. Sean Wolfe is the author of this nice little soft-cover book, and it is a nice diversion from the normal reading material that might be on your to-read list. The stories are sensual and sophisticated, fearlessly controversial, and yet irresistibly erotic. Let’s just say that some parts of Wolfe’s writings really sizzle. What he does is show you that while confirming that the only way to get rid of temptation is to give in to it, you become in reality one of the characters. In this book, he delves even deeper into his wicked imagination creating a collection of tales that spans the complete spectrum of forbidden desires. You first met this author in Close Contact and Aroused. Now you can enjoy him again in this wickedly nice book. (His Close Contact was a 2005 Lambda Literary Award nominee.) Daniel Fischer has a secret, and he knows he’s a character in a book that’s being written. He is the only one who knows and the only one who’s aware of the author’s presence. Even though Daniel knows this, he is still only a minor character. The author seems much more interested in other people’s lives. This alone should grab your attention. Now Daniel is determined to win a bigger part, and he will do whatever it takes to get the author’s attention and make this story his own. It’s suspenseful, subversive, and hilarious. It is definitely an inventive literary turn that calls into question who we trust, what we believe, and how the stories of our lives are created. When Daniel finds out about Delia, he is placed in the picture by meeting her in a bar. They introduce themselves, end up going back to her apartment, and the next morning the live-in boyfriend arrives on the scene. Daniel doesn’t realize that he is just a pawn in someone else’s plot. His involvement in other people’s lives continues, and so goes Conescu’s excellent novel. Being Written is from Harper Perennial, is a paperback book, and priced at $13.95.

he Archangel Project got put on my to-do list, and I didn’t forget it, but I do apologize for not reviewing it sooner. It’s a mass market paperback, priced at $7.99, and published by Harper. It deals with timely topics from the war on terrorism and tensions in the Middle East to the cynical manipulation of public opinion by political forces and the “Big Brother” tendencies of modern government. The setting of the book is in postKatrina New Orleans and written by C.S. Graham. Graham is a pseudonym of writing team Steven Harris and Candice Proc-

tor. With their backgrounds, it is easy to understand how this book came about, and readers benefit from this. It’s a fascinating book even without knowing the background of the authors. The authors tell of the struggling city of New Orleans through disgraced CIA agent Jax Alexander and a young Iraq War veteran Tobie Guinness. They

join forces to catch a killer and stop a plot that could plunge the world into an apocalyptic war. When the body of Henry Youngblood, a professor at Tulane University, is discovered, it sound alarms at Langley. During the period when the U.S. and Soviets were pursuing aggressive programs, along comes Youngblood onto the scene. In the process of the investigation, Jax discovers that the killers have Tobie in their sights. She had seen something she shouldn’t have seen, and she has to run for her life. Thus the teaming up with Jax comes about to prevent the U.S. military from being tricked into using the ultimate weapon with all the consequences. I’m not sure what I expected when I first saw this review copy, but once I got into it, it became another of those books that you find difficult to put down. Even though I dislike the mass-market formats, this one is well worth obtaining. In fact, it would be nice to have this one in a hard-cover format, but since that isn’t going to happen, just settle for this version and enjoy the ride. It’s rather electrifying as author Steve Berry so noted on the back cover.

Spoon mixture into a bowl; stir in cilantro. Spoon about one rounded tablespoon of mixture into each endive leaf. Dollop with sour cream. PEEL AND EAT SHRIMP WITH DIPPING SAUCES Set up a serving section for the shrimp and the sauces, and let the guests help themselves. ½ cup Old Bay seasoning 3 pounds, unpeeled large raw shrimp (26/30 count) Combine nine cups water and Old Bay seasoning in a Dutch oven. Bring to a boil; add shrimp. Cover, remove from heat, and let stand 15 minutes or just until the shrimp turn pink. Drain well. Serve immediately with sauces.

Tangy Garlic Tartar Sauce: 2 cups mayonnaise 1 (3.5-ounce) jar of capers, drained 3 cloves garlic, pressed ¼ cup Dijon mustard Combine all ingredients in a food processor; process until smooth. Chill two hours before serving.

Merry Christmas

t’s that special season of the year when parties abound and hearts are filled with joy and generosity. With the loss of my family, I had stopped celebrating with my former delight and gratitude. This year, however, I have been moved by Santa Trahan. He and Ray Bates raided my attic and brought down everything Christmas that has been stored and collected for over twenty years. He also brought me a new wreath for the front door even though there were three others in the attic and Poinsettias to brighten my attitude. Ray put the tree up and wrapped it with lights. He then turned and said it was time for him to leave and I was instructed to complete the decorations. I sorted the dolls that Mom had made years ago and the bows and the other handmade ornaments. Two hours later, I was satisfied that the tree was as close to perfect as I could get it without Randy and Ray shouting out instructions or orders. It was time to invite people over to see my achievement. Ray was on his way to Mesa, AZ to visit with Rex and Nicholas Romans so disappointedly I scratched him off my list. Randy was next. And, of course, I called Julie Thompson and my cousin-in-law Arvilla. You’ve got to have a holiday cocktail party, Arvilla insisted, now that the house looks so festive. I’m trying to work that plan out now. It has been so long since I’ve had a holiday party that I’m not sure what to do first. While most people start with a guest list, I was concerned about what to serve. I am neither a cook nor do I do fancy party snacks. I realized it was time to talk to Matti and Randy. Matti did all the great snacks for the Day of Remembrance at the Community Center. Randy makes the best shrimp dip I have ever tasted and has the largest, most unusual collection of serving pieces in Gay existence. Ah, at last, I am filled with Christmas spirit. It feels good. And it is time to make plans to enjoy all that our Community has to offer. Let’s see there is 12/12 at the Community Center and the Gay Men’s’ Chorus. There are private parties and Christmas with the Crawford’s is a must see. PFLAG is having their annual Christmas Party/Meeting. Wow, dates are running short for planning another party. I hope to see all my readers during the holidays to wish you a merry, merry with lots of peace and good health and happiness in person. If I miss some of you, please know that I am grateful and very happy to be a small part of your holiday season.

If you never visited the Castro which is very changed today, this is your chance at a first hand view of Gayland in the 1970s. I am not a fan of Sean Penn. I don’t like the sameness of his portrayals of the characters he has chosen. I find him physically unpleasant and limited. He still did not impress me as the lead in Milk but the story was of such great value that I was able to ignore Penn’s manic performance. A real annoyance for me was that Gay organizations and groups were invited to the press screening and only 20 people outside the press group attended. I was saddened by this lack of response but it once again shows the lackadaisical attitude of the New Orleans community. Wake up, people, or there will be no Milk on our menu. Seven Pounds is a strange story of payback by a man filled with remorse and guilt. His pain does not allow for forgiveness –

his own. This is another perfectly odd character for Will Smith who can pull these strange roles off convincingly. A few of the other reviewers didn’t seem to like the story until I insisted, this is a fantasy and all things are possible. That is the attitude I go into every movie with – this is a story designed for entertainment not reality. So it is easy for me to enjoy most of the movies that I see. This character carelessly but not maliciously takes the lives of seven people. Before his untimely death, he is able to give back life to seven deserving people. Holiday Movies

am recommending two movies that will be showing by the time this issue comes out. First is Milk and the second is Seven Pounds. I was asked to screen several others but they didn’t satisfy my fancy. Both the above mentioned films are serious and dramatic. There is nothing seasonal about either. Milk is the story about the life and death of Harvey Milk, the first openly Gay politician in America. He was gunned down in his City Hall office by a homophobic San Francisco Board of Supervisors member who he tried to befriend and educate. The importance of the film is the fight for equality and the unity of the Gay community to demand change. A demand that was successful. It strongly brought to my mind how the New Orleans Gay community has failed to

Putting Christ in Christmas?

ith horrifying rapidity I am approaching my second Christmas in New Orleans! The changes in church have been extraordinary. Our main problem has been running to keep up with growth, and build the ministries, activities, outreach projects and everything else that will keep our new members engaged and active. When Leon and I arrived a year ago we had 11 members, for the last few weeks we have been getting 60 in church and we are on a pretty steep growth curve. As we approach Christmas the usual question comes up – how do we celebrate uniquely something we are celebrating every Sunday of the year? Just dressing the church up like Macy’s isn’t enough. Things like advent wreaths and trees are all very nice but they don’t summon the presence of God into the midst of the congregation. In The Big Easy MCC the one consistent factor in our recovery has been a very strong feeling of God’s presence and I see no need to replace that genuine, powerful sense of God with too many sickly sentiments invented by Victorian sappho psalm ...from Expose-2 sibility that is deeper than any we might encounter in our lives. Oh, I wouldn’t be the true dog lover that I am without a mention of Duke the Great Dane that is one of the important characters. Duke is a Harlequin like the one I had when I lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I hope you enjoy these two films as much as I did. And I do hope you find time during these busy holiday weeks to catch a movie.

Drunk Driving

ust learned that a friend was arrested for drunk driving. I’m feeling really sad about it because this is a usually responsible man with a good job and friends that love and respect him. But after doing some reading on AOL from the Forbes.com report, I learned that Louisiana is #5 in the ratings for states with drunk drivers. Surprisingly, Montana was #1 – a dubious honor. South Carolina was #2 and Mississippi was #3. Southern states seem to rank high in this list of shame. Please don’t drink and drive this holiday season. I’ll be out on the road and I don’t want to have to worry about my friends killing me when there are so many drunks I don’t know. Stay safe, have a Happy Holiday and a Blessed New Year.

There is a lot of bitching at this time of year about ‘keeping Christ in Christmas’, this is all very well and understandable, but isn’t it a Christian’s job to keep Christ in their own Christmas? Surely they can’t moan about non Christians enjoying themselves at this time of year – it is not the non Christian’s job to prosper the spirituality of the Christian! We live in a multi-cultural and multifaith country and world, and several different religious festivals fall at the same time of year. I understand therefore why some people insist on saying ‘Happy Holidays’ but I rather think they miss the point. ‘Happy Holidays’ makes nobody happy; I find no offence when friends wish me ‘Happy Hanukah’ and Jewish friends tell me that being wished ‘Happy Christmas’ is no great trauma either. Muslim leaders in the United Kingdom actually came out to support the celebration of Christmas partly because the undermining of the authenticity of Christmas casts a shadow over their own freedom to authentically celebrate Ramadan or Ede. In England many schoolchildren of all faiths celebrate the Hindu festival of Diwali, and I think many Hindus would feel threatened by an assault on Christmas because it would set a precedent that religious festivals must be all be subsumed into some artificial secular kitsch-fest in December. Still, encouraging everyone to say Happy Christmas does not make them all Christians! One of the main horrors of religion in 21st century America is that a whole bunch of people think they are Christians simply because they have been born and brought up Southern Baptist, or because they live according to conservative social mores, or because they hate all the right groups of people. Christians should be defined by love just as The Christ was defined by love. I understand that this cuts the number of practicing Christians in the world rather dramatically! I think my point would be that love – of self, neighbor, stranger and especially the outcast – is the defining characteristic of the Christian life. It is not an optional extra. In this respect Christmas can be dangerous distraction, a time set aside when we do nice things to each other, what about the rest of the year? When did being nice to each other turn into spending a fortune at Dillards? When did warm fuzzy feelings, stoked by eggnog and booze replace authentic

spiritual experience? Well, it is my business as a Christian to prosper my own spiritual journey, it is my job to ensure I don’t lose sight of Christ under a huge pile of glitter and house drag; for those who are not able, ready or willing to name themselves as Christians then knock yourselves out! Life has few enough chances to forget problems - grasp and embrace the celebrations without worrying about a bunch of hand wringing Christians trying to keep focused on a small child born two thousand years ago. Fund-Raisers, The Other Side of the Coin

is the season to be jolly and it is the season to be joyous. It is that time of the year, the season to reach into our pockets and help others, to give to the less fortunate and share the year’s bounty, to thank those who have been so generous to us and share that generosity with those less fortunate. In other words, it is time to rob our coffers, and give away what we can not necessarily afford darning this widening recession. I am not speaking of those charities that spend their wealth throughout our own community, who are helping with medication, housing and substance for those who can not afford to fend for themselves. These organizations are above reproach, and certainly deserve to be supported to the best of our collective endeavors. I could begin a list here of hundreds of such organizations, and my hat goes off to those involved with them. Of course each one of us has our favorite charities and the reasons that we support them and what I am about to say certainly is not directed with animosity to any one person, one group or any honorable charity. But rather I suspect it is directed to those among us whom claim to be supporting some of our dearest causes. Are we all aware that in some cases only a small percentage of the monies we raise for them get to the very people we are trying to help. Sometimes the amount is down right embarrassing. Some of the more national fund-raising concerns actually have expenses that are jacked up beyond sensibilities and from each dollar donated as little as a nickel may reach to help with the cause. Somehow this makes

me cringe, so before you do select which groups to support, check them out thoroughly. Don’t be suckered in. But I am more concerned about fund-raising on a more local level. I know that many of you have heard people from one charity or another mumble “not another drag show.” I have heard that comment from people you would never expect to mumble such things, but when it comes to fundraising who gets the calls first? THE DRAG QUEENS! That’s right capitalized and on purpose. As an entertainer I am constantly asked by some bar to help out raising monies for one cause or another, some of which I have never heard of and can find out nothing about. “It won’t take much of your time and you have everything you need to do it.” That is the logic they assail me with. And you know, for the most part they are right. It will only take five to ten minutes of my time. Of course they always advertise a starting time, for which I always arrive thirty minutes ahead of so as not to be late for the Overture. Thing is the Overture is never on time, it in many instances is twenty to thirty minutes late or in the case of one bar as much as an hour, the reason? They have two to four times the crowd they usually have and are ringing the register, more about this later. All this time the entertainers are trapped along with the customers and they expect you to drink at your own expense. Now in all fairness some bars do give the entertainers a coupon or two for a free drink. Now if I am getting paid for a show, I don’t mind paying my way. Speaking of paying one’s way, has any one ever considered just how much it costs to prepare one’s self for an evening? First there is the make-up. [continued on Expose-17]

December Recollections

007: I told you all about the new Spanish Town studs Robert and Brandon and all the restoration work they were doing on the home they purchased on Bungalow Lane in the Spanish Town section, with fabulous works of George Dureau occupying prime locations in the residence. It was also when old times came forth with a chance meeting of Todd, Jules, and Donald at a local Mediterranean restaurant, and we had a lively discussion about Sam. I also told you about how David was such a nice guy and always welcomed me with great hugs when I went to Splash. It was also a time when I recalled the loved ones we had lost during the year. 2006: Some of the guys who are staunch Baton Rougeans were discussed in this column. They included Richard and Guy, TTT, Little John, Gerry, and lots of others. They are here because of their jobs, businesses, or just living with or near relatives. I also told you about all the Christmas decorations in the local bars, and I reminded

you of all the good times at the old Mirror Lounge and the Hide-A-Way. My handsome beauty Suzanne was mentioned as was Minette and Jennifer. I also told you about Joey, who came to Baton Rouge because of Hurricane Katrina, but then how he and his lover had returned to the Crescent City to live and work there. 2005: Christmas was stylishly celebrated at the home of Mark and Jimmy, and it was one of the loveliest parties of the season. The home was elaborately decorated, and the food was simply the best ever. Parties were also held at the home of Elmer and Kevin, Jerry and Joe, and also the big Possa event. It was also a time to complain that “Brokeback Mountain” hadn’t been added to the schedule to be shown in Baton Rouge, and plans were already under way to see it in New Orleans. (It did get added, and the first showing was to a packed house of very happy people that went away afterwards knowing they had seen a masterpiece of filmmaking.) I also recalled that nice preacher’s boy I met in Washington, D.C. at the library

convention. (I still recall that remarkable experience – attending the convention, that is.) The end of an era came with the sale of the building and the closing of Hibiscus Bookstore on Main Street. Good times were many for the year, so all was not bad, and things moved along smoothly into the new year. 2004: Doubloons and L were new to the scene in Red Stick, and this added to the outlets available for gay people here. Drusilla Shopping Center became the new home for Larry’s Four Seasons Flowers and Gifts, which he opened with new partner Hal. The move came about because of all the work being done for the new interstate 20 entrance from Essen going east, and people could not get to the old location. I also told you about a friend from college and all the good times we had together. With his birthday coming up on January 1, the memories of past birthdays were recalled fondly. It was another good year for all the gay businesses in the capital city, and everyone was looking forward to the big New Years Eve parties. 2003: Do you remember Daryl from George’s? I found him to be an exceptional young man, and I told you all about him. I also told you about another great dinner with my good buddy John D, or Little John as many of you know him. We met for another great Mexican dinner at El Rio Grande and drank a

margarita or two. This guy is a gem of humanity, and I love him dearly - then, now, and always. It was Christmas party time again, and, of course, there is always the excellent one given by our sexy lawyer Joseph. It was a time to also recall the wonderful memories of the great times I had as the sponsor of Mark Colley, who won the Mr. Louisiana Leather title. We traveled everywhere together, and it was a great experience for me and a time in my life that I will never forget. I never thought loving leather could be so great until I met this most remarkable and charming young man. It was also a time when Richard, Guy, Dwayne, and so many other Red Stickers headed out to Atlanta to cheer the Tigers to victory. The only sad thing that was recalled for the year was the way the Lafayette school system had treated the child of gay parents. It was shameful. 2002: It was a time for dancing naked and loving it. I remember it so well, and it was a joy to experience this with the sexy owner of the Phoenix, Jamie. I had never done that before but it seemed so natural. My only concern at the time was wondering if Chuck, who was asleep in the front bedroom, would wake up and catch us. He didn’t, but it might have been nice if he had. Monique Claiborne, Angelica Claiborne, Martini Cocktail (their new Miss Merry Christmas), and Mercedes Starr performing. And I recalled the good times at Icon too. I talked for a long time to Karen and Dallas, and it was a reunion of sorts with Victoria Valentine and Sophelia Groin. Victoria and Sophelia were performers in the show that night. Kevin and Wayne were also there. Also in this column was my way of thanking so many dear friends including Leonard, who I miss so much since his passing. I didn’t forget Colla either, and I was ever so proud of Gleeson and Bryan, Kenny and John over in Lafayette, my good friend Sam, and lovable Winstead, Rip and Marsha, Sharie, and so many others. 2001: Tommy was all excided about Vilnis being here from Latvia. The way Tommy explained it, this young man could just about put Ken Ryker to shame, and I think this was what drew our Acadiana friend to this stud. At any rate, it was an interesting time. I also went into detail about two Icon studs Buddy and Sammy. They were a great team then as they are to this day and now living in Las Vegas along with Tommy, Hair, and others. It was also a time to thank Scott for the experience of a lifetime. It was X-rated so not much was told, but it really was nice. Ken and Truman were honored as the new royalty of the Krewe of Apollo with an announcement party at the home of a former royalty member Bruce. Names like Waymon and Charlyn also were a part of the scene as was my good friend Michael and his Mark. 2000: The Possa party was spotlighted again, but so were the smaller ones at the homes of Jamie and Joe, Colla and Jay, and Leonard, who actually gave parties all year by way of fabulous dinner engagements. I also talked about several nice couples, but I won’t mention them here because some are no longer in the duo category. I can mention three because they are still going strong. Richard and Guy just seem to get better with age. Then you have James and Kyle (now of Hound Dogs) and formerly of Buddies, Time Zone, Mac’s, and some I can’t recall at the moment. Then there was Paul and Michael of Blue Parrot, Bogart’s, or The Cage. Just take your pick. Then there was George and Patrick at Evolution. As to singles, I could never forget Charlie, a loving and caring man who is still missed in the gay community here. 1999: It was a nice time of the year especially when I was hanging out with my computer friend Gerry, or Mark of Back Street in Lafayette, and John G. of Sound Factory in Lafayette and Crystal’s in Lake Charles. It was also more fun at Evolution with ever-so-nice Dallas and a gorgeous little stud named Jeff, who warmed the cockles of my heart and other body parts. David and Ken gave a fabulous party at their home in Spanish Town, and everyone really enjoyed it. The Louisiana Power ExchangeAssociation was going strong, and I believe there must have been 50 friends mentioned in this year-end column. In fact, I ran into one, namely Tom, while delivering Ambush this week. I hadn’t seen him for awhile, but he and other half Don were living in Atlanta when I knew them so long ago. And I mentioned Raquel who I predicted would someday be Miss Gay America, but I also noted all my Lords of Leather friends, those at Oz (Johnny, Cy, and Tommy), chef/hostess Jay, King Cake Queen Stephanie, and, of course, Rip and Marsha and so many, many more. 1998: Time came for the closing of the Blue Parrot with a big blowout put on my Don and Tom. Metropolitan Community Church bash, and James and Kyle had Sondra and Michelle performing for them. Marie wanted everyone to know she was a free woman and looking for connections at the Hide-A-Way, and DJ Darlene was spinning the records. George, Obry, and Jim had big plans for Evolution. Kevin was doing a lot of work at the Capitol, and Damon was pleased to have the autographed picture from Keanu. Bill and Dean were on the scene, and Big Dick was taking a lot of printing orders. (He still does – take print orders.) I also ran into two Mr. Butt Beautifuls from 1998 and 1999, and one showed me his new apparatus. Don’t you just love apparatuses? 1997: Sam was the Apollo kingelect, and his co-workers gave him a fabulous party. There was a big Krewe of Hedon party this year, and lots of friends were in attendance. I recall Debbie being there but minus Claudette who was sick. Josie and Effie came with her. Stephanie, a former queen of the Krewe of Hedon, was very beautiful and looked so elegant in that black gown. Damon and Tommy represented the Krewe of Apollo, and Leonard was the rep for the Krewe of Sparta. There was a fundraiser at the Mirror Lounge for Bettina Sheets. Entertainment was by Marilyn Mills, Mariah Holiday, Sashincie, Yvette LeVeaux, Effie Marie, Alicia Summers, Stephanie Holiday, Rob Johnson, George Knight, Onnie, the Rev. Don Clarke, Courtney O’Neal, and Veronica Monrey. Kyle and Brian were operating Mystik Treasurers as well as the Mystik Coffee Shop on Government Street. Naiad Press of Florida was going strong as a major publisher of books by lesbian authors. They were strong supporters of Hibiscus Bookstore in the early years. Allan’s FM Bookstore in New Orleans was also a wonderful place to be at any time of the year and was also supported by Naiad. I also told you about Mary Bess, a very beautiful human being.

And Time Moves On

ell, it’s time to move on to what is going on in December of 2008, but I do hope you enjoyed a little look through past Decembers. They were glorious years, full of fun, full of sadness, but always full of great friendships. These continue today, and some have grown so much stronger over the years. We’ve lost many of our friends, but we have also gained a lot of new ones, so life goes on. Once again, the Christmas season will be filled with wonderful parties at all the bars and in private homes. In fact, as I write this column, I’m looking forward to a big one tonight – well, a big party anyway. When I delivered Ambush this week, I had to smile when I got to Splash. raduation and Christmas are both less than a week away, and right afterward is New Year’s Eve. The season of celebration here in Lafayette has officially begun, and the parties won’t end until Mardi

Gras. And everybody’s favorite pair of gay bars is already working hard to make sure this holiday season is better than ever before. The Sound Factory and Back Side are tirelessly preparing for the upcoming holidays. On Sunday, December 21st, John, Mark, and the rest of the crew are hosting their annual Christmas Party, and I know it will be a night to remember. So grab your sweaters and get ready for a night of food, fun and festivities. And just one week afterward, The Sound Factory and Back Side will hold their unforgettable New Year’s Eve Extravaganza. There will be good friends and party one last song ...from Expose-4 Most of us do not use over the counter discount stuff. Personally I use professional stage make-up, all of which runs a pretty penny, a well stocked make-up kit with sable brushes, sponges, applicators, toners, bases, eye colors, liners, lip rouges, lip gloss, rouge, eye lashes, glues, highlighters will run upward of hundreds of dollars. Even more if the over the counter make-up is a name brand. Add to that the cost of wigs purchased ($35 to $400 dollars each) styled professionally, the hair spray and sheen applied backstage. The CD’s, I have spent hundreds of dollars each year buying obscure albums to find new comic material. Then there is the jewelry, go out and price some of the earrings, necklaces and baubles and try not to faint. Then there are the outfits, can we talk some cash here? Price some of those better sequined gowns in sizes that will fit a drag. Material, I sew a lot of my own things and have been known to pay upward of $50 a yard. The outfits for the most part have to be cleaned after two wearings, and I don’t mean with Fabreeze either, try dry cleaning. Now what was that? The night won’t cost me that much right! Then comes the matter of transportation, I don’t drive, so unless I can con a ride from some one it means I will have to get a cab to and from the club. Let me think this through. I imagine it would be fair considering, the wear and tear on my wardrobe, the use of my material and make-up it would probably be fair to say it costs me about $75 a show. Now here is the real kicker, I am required to turn over 100% of my stage tips. The question I pose here, the host bars doubles or triples its cash register ring or even more. Why aren’t they giving a percentage of the register to the charity and maybe let the entertainers keep half of their tips if they wish to cut their expenses or if not, just let them decide. You know that in many cases there's not even a representative of the charity there to collect the money at the end of

the evening and more times than not ton even at the door. Krewes and clubs for the most part raise funds like this to help with their expenses and for the most part their members are the ones doing the entertaining. This is what they do and the volunteers they use are doing it fully aware of where the monies are going. The Gay Easter Parade raises money for Food for Friends and the Gay Appreciation Awards raises money for Buzzy’s Boys and Girls and their expenses are accounted for and published with-in thirty days. PrideFest basically dies or rather did the same thing. Has anyone seen an accounting of this year’s expense as yet? Many people ask me why I am not at every fund-raiser like some others are. I am writing this to try and set the record straight. If I belong to a group or club, I am there. If I know for sure where the money is going, I am there. I cannot attend everything as I admit, I am growing old and my own health is not all that great. To every Drag Artist and Entertainer who gives and gives and gives, my lashes are off to you, how often have you heard those words “not another drag show?” But when they need cash in their coffers who are the first people they call on? to get that cutie’s name, I guess I will have to go back and check him out. It’s always nice to be able to add new names and faces to the hot tails family of great ones. Things were lively at George’s too. Marvelous Michael greeted me at the door, and that is always a treat, but I also enjoyed my chat with Tom. I’ll have to get back over there soon to see Richard, Guy, Chansley, and that wonderful Luther. I haven’t met the new bartender Andy, and that is reason enough for heading back over there. I need to check back in at Splash too and see all my wonderful guys and gals there – Danny, Ty, Stephen, Brad, Wes, Karen, Scott, Landon, Jeff, and, of course, Lance, the most gorgeous of all the Mr. Butt Beautiful winners. I think of them often, but I just don’t care to keep late-night hours that much. I’m usually up at 4am having my first cup of coffee and planning my schedule for the day. Every now and then I surprise everyone with my late-night visits, but I’m an early bird and really enjoy the happy hour periods. I’ve spent many of those at George’s and the old Mirror Lounge, and I have fond memories of all those I spent when in New Orleans at Lafitte’s usually with Brian who now lives in Tampa. I also made it over to Hound Dogs for my latest visit with Miss Jeanne. I didn’t get to stay as long as I would have liked, but I had lots of other errands to run before getting home. Johnny was outstandingly friendly as usual, and the bar was rather crowded for so early in the evening. I’m sure some of the guys were downtown workers who just stopped in for a drink before heading home. I know this is Miss Jeanne’s regular routine. We are still planning to hit New Orleans one of these days. I look forward to that. I have to also get back to Hound Dogs to see Joy and give her my best wishes for a great holiday, and perhaps I’ll run into James and Kyle too. The lights are on in the downtown area, and it is really a festive sight.

North Boulevard is always covered in lights from the Old State Capitol all the way to the interstate. One block breaks the theme this year with the new governmental building still in the process of going up, but it will be nice when it is completed. The skyline has changed so much in recent years. Actually, Baton Rouge had finally realized that progress is the only way to fly, and the city has taken wings. Now if the proper funding can be found, the riverfront will be completed all the way up to the Capitol, with a park being planned across from the Pentagon Barracks. The Capitol grounds look different after Gustav spread his wrath across the city. The historic Boyd Oak is gone, and so many of the trees were heavily damaged. It will take a while for them to recover, but things just don’t look the same without that beautiful old oak. I’m so happy I have lots of pictures of it. I have enjoyed walking under its spreading branches so many times, and now there is just an open space where it once stood so gracefully. Hopefully, it can be replaced with an offspring like the other one that was destroyed several years ago. A young tree started from one of her acorns is growing there now. That tree was a part of the elaborate decorations the year all the Copeland lights were at the State Capitol. I forget why it was removed, but I believe it split in half and couldn’t be saved. Trees and lights are all over the city. That time of the year is here again, so quickly it seems, but that happens as you grow older. The days slip away, but the changes keep coming. It’s about time for me to get back to the Shaw Center and dine at Tsunami and watch the sun set over the Atchafalaya Basin. It’s such a beautiful view from there. As this year comes to an end, let me wish you all the very best of the season and a very special wish goes out to Splash’s David for a speedy recovery. We all love you, my friend. It’s always nice chatting with you. Let’s do it some more in 2009.

With so many celebrations going on, it’s easy to forget to be responsible. Make sure you always have a designated driver, and if that doesn’t work out, you can always take a cab. Saints, Trash Disco & Grape Leaves

ollowing the moving dedica-tion of the New Orleans AIDS Memorial in Washington Square Park, it was over to JohnPaul’s to catch the end of the Saints game. By the time we got there, it was over, and our boys, the Saints, had lost once again. Oh well, there’s always next week for a win! Paul and John were in as was John’s sister. Eva was there along with Elizabeth and Stephen, Cathy and Barry, and several others. They were in a jolly mood enjoying the Tailgate eats and left overs of Marcy birthday cake from the show from the night before. Red popped in from the Phoenix for a few snacks. She mentioned the Corner Pocket. Thank goodness! We almost forgot about Micheal’s PostThanksgiving Feast at 5pm. After another cocktail or two, we headed back to Bourbon Street. We popped into Lafitte’s for a couple of Trash Disco tunes and a couple more vodkas. Both Aletha and Jeff were slingin’ cocktails and the festive crowd was moving into high gear. DJ Johnny Love was showcasing the club’s traditional Sunday videos which fans come back for more and more each week. A short cab ride brought us to The Corner Pocket. As we opened the door to enter, the smells of holiday cooking drifted right to us. Heading to the bar, we got a couple of drinks, before taking a seat. Michael and Tommy were putting out the finishing touches on the the Pocket’s Post-Thanksgiving buffet along with the help of Jerry. Bruce came in about that time. Let’s see ...the last time we ran into him was when he was trying to sneak out of the digs of Miss Ashlee early one morning on St. Ann Street. Can y’all imagine, an early morning tryst between Bruce and Ashlee. Husband hunting must really be bad these days. But enough thinking about that. We certainly didn’t want to ruin our appetites. After all, the Elias brothers had whipped up a batch of their famous stuffed grape leaves. These were the biggest, longest ones they’ve ever done. And did we say delicious?!? Yes, and of course there was turkey, Miss Ashlee’s holiday dressing, potatoes, desserts and so much more. But those grape leaves were our favorites and we had to go back for a few more. It was time to head home for a good nights rest after a delightful action packed day in old N’awlins.

Visits, Cocktails, Red Beans & Butter

t’s now World AIDS Day, December 1st. After getting all of our pre-delivery day chores done, it was off to the bank. We love to do a little window shopping on the way to and returning from there. The jewelry and antiques are always stunning. But we are on a budget and can’t afford any big ticket items. So it was off to the Double Play to take advantage of Happy Hour. John was slingin’ cocktails and had a bevy of colorful locals. This is one stop that is always a scream! And John’s sense of humor gives us the giggles! A short walk down Dauphine taking a left on St. Peter landed us at 700 Club on the corner of Burgundy. Proprietor Mike was behind the bar, and we had to thank him once again for the marvelous culinary treats we took advantage of on Thanksgiving. His mom and godmother were such a pleasure chatting with. We had a little excitement when this young straight couple who had crossed over came in. Mike wouldn’t serve them so they threw a fit, and broke his sidewalk board sign on the way out of the door. They went down the street a couple of doors and banged on the shutters of the home there. The police were called and arrived just as the couple walked right

into their arms. There was some more hollering and finally, they were taken away. These youngsters learned a lesson the hard way. Two more blocks down Burgundy we went stopping in at Rawhide. Denny Sommers was serving cocktails here. He’s one of the candidates for the upcoming Mr. LSGRA (Louisiana State Gay Rodeo Association) competition set for Saturday, March 7, 2009. Larry and his baby, Barnebus were in the house. Catch their pics in this edition. A short cab ride to Cutter’s brought us in for Monday’s Bean Night with bartender Chris. After a couple of cocktails we tried the red beans, sausage and rice. As usual, Mac had whipped up a good batch. Here the guys serve a big restaurant size block of butter for the French bread accompanying the beans. When you put the bread on top of the hot beans, the butter just melts. It’s definitely a Paula Dean moment!

Delivery, Construction & LSGRA

fter last delivery day came to a close, it was definitely time for a cocktail or two since we start around 5am and don’t get done till 4:30 or 5pm. That is definitely a long day. The lovely Donnie Jay was slingin’ cocktails at Tubby's Golden

Lantern. Miss Petit was there along with Chester and several other locals. We ran into Matt from The Guide out of Boston and bar baron Rick. Things are really shaping up at the Lantern. The two old bathrooms have been torn out in the reorganization of the space. There’s even a new gas fire place to keep us warm in this bout of cold weather. We couldn’t drink to much since we were off to a meeting. Yes, it was off to Cowpokes for the Royalty Committee meeting followed by the general monthly membership meeting for LSGRA (Louisiana State Gay Rodeo Association). Bill was behind the bar so cocktails were available to those who wanted them. The LSGRA Royalty competition will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Cowpokes. The group has decided to do the Royalty competition the second Saturday after Mardi Gras each year. Did y’all know that LSGRA did such a great job on the 24th International Gay Rodeo Association Convention that the group has been asked to consider doing the convention each year in New Orleans. It is a lot of hard work and those members who worked so hard on convention should be congratulated. The whole rodeo experience could turn into another mega GLBT weekend for New Orleans and all of Louisiana, ranking up there with Southern Decadence, Mardi Gras and Halloween.

Wayne came in a short time later. We wanted to make sure he thanked his mom, Ms. Bobbie, for her delicious chicken and dumplings recipe. We tried it and it came out just like her’s. If y’all ever see chicken and dumplings at Big Daddy’s, make sure and try it. It is sure to be Ms. Bobbie’s! A few steps down Franklin landed us a Cutter’s. It was the first Friday of the month, so y’all know that means it was the night for the December Artist of the Month opening reception. The featured artist was Steve Kiipper. In addition to his talents on canvas, he can give a mean shoulder or back rub. One piece caught our attention. It was a big ole beefy boy showing off his back side in black and white with a pair of red high heels on. Make sure and check out his work at Cutter’s through December. It was back to the Quarter heading for the Land of Oz. We’d missed Dingo with Princesse and Sable, but were in time for those hot Men of Manwatch. DJ Jason Lanoux was spinnin’ crowd favorites making this one of those festive nights for party central. It’s easy to see why Oz keeps on winning Dance Club of the Year voted on by the Gulf South readership of Ambush Mag in the annual Gay Appreciation Awards.

Art Against AIDS

ome days it turns into a roller coaster ride when stepping out our front door for cocktails. First up was to catch Marcy over at Starlight By The Park. Javier and CW were getting in holiday mold beginning their mega decorating endeavor. Marcy was working the bar and the machines. Y’all know Miss Marcy loves those machines. Kyle and Justin popped in and had a few cocktails with us before we had to move on. It was off to Cafe Lafitte in Exile where both Aletha and Jeff were slingin’ cocktails. And did they have a crowd of happy patrons. You just never know who you’ll run into at the oldest gay bar in the country. Chris was in from Metairie and told us he was getting Pride Specialties under way once again. His first new creation is a Pride flag with a fleur de lis in the center. Well, y’all know we had to order one. After a little chit chat, we had Aletha phone us a cab for our next destination. A short cab ride brought us to 1135 Decatur Street for the Grand Re-opening of Rubyfruit Jungle. It was 6:30pm and unfortunately the club was running a little behind and was not opening until 8pm. Being on a tight schedule, we’d have to catch up with the Jungle another time. However, later we heard fromAletha about the opening going into high gear with standing room only. he 22nd Art Against AIDS Gala was hosted this year at The Sugar Mill on Convention Center Boulevard kicking off the holiday season for us. Event Chair Tony Leggio transformed the space into a shopping, dining and dance venue. It was spread out with bars on two different sides, a center stage with live music (and live auction), two silent auction areas, a sales area and popular restaurants set up throughout. Opal Masters and Darwin Reed, and David and Rhonda Roget joined us for the affair. We ran into Countess C. Alice and David Aranda, Princesse Stephaney and Sam, Athena Jewel, Amber Nicole Welch, St. Charles Chiropractic’s Michael Lechleiter and Ken Marino, New Orleans AIDS Memorial Founder Susan Levingston, Jack Sullivan, Barbara Satterley, NO/AIDS Task Force Executive Director Noel Twilbeck and Food For Friends Program Director Glen Kahrman, NO/AIDS Directer of Development Heidi Chapman and NO/AIDS PR/Media Coordinator TJ Rogers. There was something here for everyone. And this year had to be one of the best Art Against AIDS ever held. We picked up a couple of ornaments and bid on several silent auction items. Since we left before the end times of the auction, we don’t know if we ended up with anything or not. But, we’re sure we will find out shortly if we did.
