This context, in which we find the inimitable “Red and Blue Chair 1918” by Gerrit Rietveld, was later developed by the Bauhaus movement, founded in 1919 by the architect Walter Gropius. The Institute, extraordinary in its innovation, brought together the Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Artistic Crafts of Weimar: for the first time in the history was being formed the design architect, by coming into close contact with the materials, the essences and the colours, in special environments, warehouses and workshops: finally at work in an Atelier!

With different times, in America the first architect to use a space aimed at the collection of the materials, in his achievements, was Frank Lloyd Wright. For him, the architectural designing had to create a harmony between man and nature, building a new system of balances through the integration of artificial and natural elements, which led to the creation of the famous House on the Waterfall in 1963.

An Atelier is not an exhibition space, but the place where an architect, a designer, an artist transforms the collected materials in resources and stimuli for new ideas and new meetings, new challenges, new shares and new objectives: it is precisely the “place of the thought and of the creations” which is basically a personal and actual manner of... “being of one’s time.”
