Editors Message Don’t forget to mention the Voice when you use any of the companies in this Magazine

Ta da! Here it is, the new look magazine. We have some new features and some of the old favourites but as always, if there is anything else that you would like to see, don’t hesitate to contact any of us. Just make sure you leave us a contact number, as we’ve had a couple of instances where people have called about putting events in ‘things to do’ and not left contact details for us to get back in touch to verify those details but we love to help promote local events, so please just make sure that you speak to one of us, we don’t bite!! We are now going to 12,000 homes in total and our little team couldn’t be more excited as we have plenty more plans going forward. By the time this lands on your doorstep, we will have a new improved website as well and our facebook and twitter name should have changed too (although if it hasn’t fully transferred...excuse the teething problems!!) To top all this off, we have some amazing offers, competitions and new advertisers to help us with this new look, so I strongly advise you to read it from cover to cover this month, as you don’t want to miss anything from first aid training to a wildlife course, from work wear safety supplies to a business for sale….we have it all!! So, now the re-brand is virtually complete, what will I do with my time? Answers on a postcard….. ;-) Emily x

“Along comes the sun and dries up all the rain”, well not quite but we’re getting there. So it’s time for us and our incy wincy doggy friends to go out for walks again. We’re off the Wessington this months for a varied walk with some lovely views. Hope you enjoy it. If so why not let us know... 4 mile circular walk from Wessington A moderate and varied walk for you and your dog. The route should take around 2 hours. The route has a number of inclines inclines and the terrain is still mixed at this time of the year with uneven sections so a good pair of boots or wellies as always is highly recommended.

1. Begin the walk on Back Lane in Wessington. Facing east, with your back to the centre of Wessington take a footpath sign to follow wide gravel track. As this track bends right take a smaller path on your left. When this path forks take the wider path on the right. 2. At the A615 cross and turn left and walk for about 70 meters, turn left just past the bus stop to join a path through the nature area. Gardeners Calendar - April 2014 Plant summer :lowering bulbs such as lilies and anemones; Make sure there’s adequate drainage – crock pots, gravel or vermiculite mixed with compost so they don’t rot if we get a really wet Spring – not that we will, of course...

Pot up any cuttings taken from last year’s plants and overwintered in the greenhouse. Keep taking cuttings as they grow – there’s still time for them to be ready to ;lower this summer.

Rose pruning time. If you’ve got roses which repeat :lower during the summer shorten last year’s growth by a third. With shrub roses you can take older stems back to the base if they’re looking congested. This is the time to treat them to some rose fertilizer and a nice bit of muck around the roots.

Top tip. This is bonanza time for slugs – all those sweet little shoots appearing out of the ground. If you don’t want to use pellets because they’re not eco friendly, try crumpled eggshells or coffee grounds. Or encourage frogs into your garden pond by creating shady cool areas of the pond with leaves for them to hide under. Frogs love slugs.
