In the last newsletter, the importance of Strategic Planning was discussed along with our intentions for improvements to the current strategic plan. Making Strategic Planning a priority is necessary for understanding and guiding the growth of Omega in the coming years. Over the last quarter, the Strategic Planning committees came together to create action items and are working towards completion of those items to properly position Omega for the future.

We would like to introduce the Vision and Core Values for Omega Construction and outline how they will be the foundation for our future success.

Vision Statement We Build Trust. Omega Construction exists to build great teams, great relationships, and great projects that create a legacy of excellence.

Core Values

• Care – Care is demonstrated by expressing and accepting concern in our personal and professional relationships. At Omega, we care about our people, our partners, our work, our communities, and the relationships we build. We care about our projects - the quality, safety, schedule, budget, and overall experience for our clients.

Our Vision Statement articulates what we plan to achieve and a guiding principle for achieving this goal. You all recognize the “We Build Trust” tagline which has served us well since it was adopted by Paul Covington in 1985. Building trust continues to be a guiding principle for Omega and an important part of the vision for the future. Creating a legacy of excellence embodies all that we work toward every day and reinforces that what we leave behind is as important as where we are headed.

Our Core Values remind us of what is important, reinforce the foundation that Omega Construction was built on, and keep the relentless pursuit of these values at the forefront. These values support the family culture that has always been the cornerstone of Omega Construction and guides every decision we make internally and externally.

A MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP Managing pressure and risks greg marshall

Being a General Contractor has always involved pressure and managing risk from all directions - pressure and risk from customers to get projects completed on time and within budget; pressure and risk from subcontractors and suppliers to coordinate their work so they perform as required while meeting their financial and contractual obligations; pressure and risk from architects and engineers to help find and solve design issues before they become construction issues; and pressure from banks, bonding companies, and insurance companies to manage risks and maintain a strong balance sheet. The current economic environment with material shortages, labor shortages, price increases, and supply chain issues has exponentially increased that risk and pressure. It has created what I believe is the most challenging time for the construction industry in my 20+ year career. Before he retired at the end of last year, David Murray told me that it was the most challenging time he had experienced in his 40+ year career.

I have seen those core values exemplified by Omega’s employees daily since my career at Omega began.

In times of stress and pressure, like the current market, it is easy to get weary, give in to the pressure, and not live out our core values. For that reason, I believe integrity and doing the right thing are more important now than ever.

Pressure and stress reveal true character – doing what is right even when it is not the easy thing to do. By showing true integrity in the current environment, I believe we have a unique opportunity to build Omega’s reputation and build trust like never before.

Through the hard work and dedication of our team and the trust we have built in the market with our customers, we are blessed to have more project opportunities than we have ever had in the past. We have also been able to attract and add great team members to our already strong team. The result is that we have more opportunities than ever before to show how the Omega team is truly exceptional and different from our competition at a time when true character is being revealed and customers are looking for a General Contractor they can trust. I have every confidence that the Omega team will take advantage of this opportunity and be even stronger as a result.

HUMAN RESOURCES Human resources Update Omega is excited to announce company leaders will be launching an in-house learning management system called “TalentLMS,” in just a few weeks. TalentLMS will allow users to complete and document most company training, using a userfriendly app on their phone or iPad. Users will be able to view and retrieve their training records, see training deadline reminders, and enjoy the elimination of filtering this data through another staff member.

Additionally, we are still looking for great people to add to our Omega family.

Largest General Contractor’s List Omega Construction recently ranked as the 5th Largest General Contractor in the Triad, according to Triad Business Journal. The rankings were based on Triad billings, so we look forward to the statewide list that will be released in the fall.

HUMAN RESOURCES EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHTs 1) How long have you been a member of Omega?

I have been with Omega for almost three years.

2) Why did you join Omega?

In the spring of 2019, I was preparing to move back to North Carolina from Austin, Texas. At the time, Omega was looking for a temporary administrative assistant and my dad was familiar with some of the guys here, so I applied online and later connected with Patrick. The temporary position morphed into a permanent opportunity, and the rest is history!

3) What do you love most about Omega?

I love the team atmosphere and feeling like we all have something to contribute to the success of the overall company. I appreciate that the leaders at Omega pay attention to each person’s strengths and goals, and I was lucky enough to grow into a position I really love. Of course, I also love that we can all give each other a hard time and have fun!

4) What’s one thing you learned in the last month?

I have been learning the rules of soccer because my nieces (ages 6 and 4) are playing with NC Fusion this year. I never played soccer or watched it growing up, so that has been a learning curve, but it has been a blast.

5) What’s something about you not many people know?

Something people may not know about me is that I love the show Frasier and have watched it all the way through several times. I can quote most of the episodes and almost moved to Seattle after college because of it. I’m not sure if that is a fun fact or just crazy, but it’s my favorite show, for sure!

How long have you been a member of Omega?

I have been with Omega for a little over two years.

Why did you join Omega?

Everything I heard about Omega was outstanding and very different than most large construction companies. I needed a change of scenery and Omega was the first place I applied and was interviewed.

What do you love most about Omega?

What I love most about Omega is the company-wide culture. The Omega team genuinely cares about their employees, their lives, and their families, which is rare. Everyone from the top to the bottom embodies that mindset and it was very apparent from the day I started working at Omega.

What’s one thing - either industry-related or not - you learned in the last month?

I learned about the mechanical aspects of installing an in-ground pool, and the importance of coordinating the pool contractor with the mechanical contractors on-site, to ensure all the “guts” of the pool will work successfully and be installed properly, without conflicting with other trades.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?

Something about me that most probably don’t know is that I like to read. My mother reads more than any person I know, and our house always had books around growing up. Stephen King was a favorite. I mostly read non-fiction and my favorite book is The House of Thunder by Dean Koontz. I also really like The Great Gatsby but I read that as a kid, so it wouldn’t be on my “favorites” list, now. I read all types of genres other than romance novels; those aren’t books… they’re just soap operas in writing.

The 2022 Omega “Bunny Hop” Event Omega employees had a blast at the 2022 Omega “Bunny Hop” Event at Hanestown Park! Fun was had by all, no injuries were reported, and many laughs were shared in the Easter spirit. Being part of such an elite team that also knows how to take a break and have fun is one of the things that makes Omega a great place to work!

omega Spreads joy and cheer with Random acts of kindness event Omega Construction participated in an event benefiting Habitat for Humanity, as money was earned for a donation with each act of kindness!

Beginning February 7th, employees made intentional efforts to act in kindness as much as possible in and out of the office - and around 50 acts were reported during the two week event! Thank you to all who chose to spread kindness and joy during this event, or nominate someone who did.

Other acts of kidness our employee’s gave: “Eric Marshall went out of his way to welcome me to Omega.”

“Elly helped a sweet, lost lady back to her room at a long-term care facility.”

ALWAYS PUTTING SAFETY FIRST Electrical Safety Electrical accidents can cause burns, shocks, and electrocution.

Without proper safety protocols, some accidents can lead to death. Approximately 230 electrical-related fatalities occur each year. Electrical accidents typically occur in the high-risk workforce - when an aerial lift or boom, or scaffolding set up, results in the unexpected connection with a power line, creating a circuit.

Three primary electrical hazards: • Electric shock Electric shock involves contact with electricity that causes a current to run through the skin, muscles, or hair, and occurs when you become part of an electrical circuit. Its effect can range from nearly imperceivable to devastating, with electrocution or death as the most severe form of electric shock.

• Hazard of electricity Static electricity or static discharge can potentially be a source of ignition and cause of a fire or explosion; it can also cause shocks. Generally, static events are not a danger in household and office situations, though they may be painful. However, in industrial situations, their impact can be quite destructive.

• Electrical burn Electrical burns are primarily internal and caused by the electricity that flows through tissue or bone that generates heat, resulting in tissue damage. This can occur from an electric shock or a lightning strike. These burns occur from the inside to the outside of the body.

Electrical Safety Tips:

• Look at the tool or appliance end, too; if a tool or cord becomes hot to the touch, sparks, or shocks, repair or replace the defective item; don’t attempt to repair broken cords or components yourself - that is a job for a qualified electrician • Never break off the third (ground) prong to fit a plug into a two-plug outlet; instead, replace the outlet; if the third prong is removed, the equipment is no longer grounded; any cord with a prong missing should be taken out of service • Remember that extension cords are for temporary use only; using them as a permanent wiring solution is a NFPA Fire Code Violation

• Before plugging in a device, examine both the device and its cord for damage; look for corroded, loose, or bent plugs • Examine the cord for cracks or frayed insulation at the plug end

• Don’t close a door on a cord

Davidson Water Chlorine System Improvements Lexington, NC Description: This project included a new pre-engineered metal building and renovation of the existing chlorine treatment facility operated by Davidson Water. The project involved converting the existing chlorine gas treatment system to a safer chlorine bleach treatment system. The project scope included the installation of four new bleach storage tanks, associated piping, and metering pump delivery systems.

Construction Scope of Work Includes: • Demolition of existing Sludge Vacuum Beds, modifications to existing electrical service to adequately supply power to the new facilities and existing Chlorine Storage Building, construction of new Bulk Hypochlorite Storage Area including chemical containment and canopy cover, modification of an existing storage room in Chlorine Storage Building for a new Hypochlorite Feed Room including day tanks, containment, and feed pumps

• Chemical line duct banks, asphalt pavement, and grading • Modification of existing storage room in the Chlorine Storage Building for a new Chlorine Storage Room including chlorine gas cylinders and feed equipment to the existing chlorine dioxide generation equipment, tiein of new equipment to existing feed points, demolition of existing gaseous chlorine system, and feed piping within PVC conduits

7-Eleven #41808 Blacksburg, SC Description: This 7-Eleven is a 4,743-square-foot convenience store located in Blacksburg, South Carolina. Additionally, a truck stop and “Raise the Roost” chicken restaurant are available onsite to travelers. This new, wood-framed structure sits on a 16-acre site, easily accessible from I-85. This full-service truck stop with diesel and gas fueling is a direct pitstop where travelers can re-fuel, eat a hearty meal, and take a much needed rest. The interior features a commercial kitchen, dine-in seating, ceramic floor and wall tile, and a modern paint and wallcovering scheme. The exterior contains a mixture of metal paneling and painted Nichiha Fiber Cement Panels.

East Bend Town Square East Bend, NC Description: Kirk Matthews and his family collaborated with the East Bend Town Board to secure a grant for East Bend Town Square in his hometown of East Bend, NC. This park is one of the most meaningful volunteer activities he and the Triad Division worked on recently. The Park will bring green space, playgrounds, a gazebo, a walking path, and an amphitheater to the center of town for the community to enjoy. Omega is proud of this project and the message it sends. The Park shows what you can accomplish when you work together and the importance of actively contributing to your community.

Omega Construction applauds David for a successful career of more than 40 years in the construction industry!

David joined John S. Clark in 1978 and transitioned to the Omega team in 2012 with many others. We are proud to have had the opportunity to work with David as our company grew and developed. One of David’s signature projects was the 93,000-square-foot Unifi Spinning Plant, but others include the Gildan Activewear Expansion in Eden, NC, several Walmart Distribution Centers, and more recently the $18 million Daimler Logistics Center.
