The 3rd quarter of 2021 is in the books for Omega and can be viewed as an “execution” quarter relative to projects.

Our successful business development and preconstruction efforts in early 2021 led to an extremely busy quarter for putting work in place. September will be our highest revenue month to date, topping out at over $18.5 million of work completed. We also enter the 4th quarter with one of our highest backlogs of work under contract. Thank you to all our Omega employees for making this happen.

I thoroughly enjoyed sharing our Company information with the Peer group, including what we have accomplished and how wellpositioned we are for the future.

From November 7-10, we hosted our Peer Group in Winston-Salem. The Peer Group includes 8 General Contractors from across the country that meets twice a year to share information, best practices, and strategies.

On a rotating basis, each Contractor hosts the meeting in the city where their office is located and includes a detailed binder of information about their company, its organization, ownership, employees, and operations. Greg and I presented the binder information to the Peer Group for the group members to review and provide feedback.

This exercise helped us intentionally focus on Omega and set a course for continued success moving forward.

As we were busy over the last several weeks preparing the binder information and reviewing the results of surveys our employees submitted, I was reminded of how fortunate we are to be together and function as a family company at Omega.

We have a rich history over the last 46 years and an even brighter future ahead.

FROM LEADERSHIP BUILDING FAMILY As well as TRUST As Barry mentioned in his newsletter article, over the last few months we have been preparing to host our first construction peer group meeting. Putting together the documents for this meeting, particularly Omega’s history, allowed us to reflect on how much Omega has grown and accomplished over the years.

When Barry and I came to Omega, we joined a strong company with a strong culture built by Paul Covington and dedicated employees. At that time, Omega was a much smaller company.

Barry, Randy Kilts, Ron Huddleston, and I brought Omega’s total number of employees to 11 when we came on board in March of 2012 (to be followed by many former John S. Clark employees over the remainder of 2012). In the ten years that followed, Omega has grown to 97 employees. In the same time frame, Omega’s annual revenue has grown from less than $10 million to nearly $200 million. We’ve expanded from one small office in Pilot Mountain to growing offices in Winston-Salem and Savannah with projects spanning the entire Southeast.

Most of you took anonymous surveys as part of the peer group meeting preparation and our management team had the opportunity to review the summary of those surveys. As I reviewed the survey comments, I was struck by how many times the word “family” was used by different employees. “Family” and “Trust” were, by far, the most common words used in the comments. The most common reason employees like working for Omega is the family atmosphere.

Businesses have to grow and evolve to survive and create opportunities for their employees to grow, develop, and better themselves. A business that doesn’t grow will eventually die. Over the last ten years, Omega has grown purposefully and in a controlled way, in order to try to maintain the family atmosphere that the company had in 2012. Over the years I’ve heard many times from numerous Omega employees that they want to maintain that family atmosphere as we grow.

The last couple of months have been a tough time for the Omega family with the sickness and death of David Simmons. I think many of us have not fully come to grips with the fact that David is no longer with us. During David’s sickness, I had the privilege of being the conduit of information from David’s family to the Omega family.

I can’t tell you how impressed I was by the number of Omega employees asking about David every day and the sincerity of their concern. The Omega family had a deep love and concern for David and his family, and David made a tremendous impact on many Omega employees. More than the survey responses, that deep love and concern is the best evidence of Omega maintaining the family atmosphere that we all desire.

The challenge for all of us moving forward is to continue to maintain the family atmosphere as Omega grows. I feel sure we can do it because of the love and concern for others that I have been blessed to see over the years from the Omega family.

HUMAN RESOURCES Human resources Update Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), through Mutual of Omaha, is an employer-paid program that provides resources to assist with job-related issues, personal issues, legal and financial issues, work and life transitions, etc. EAP is not medical insurance. There are no co-pays or deductibles. Unlike health insurance, EAP services are a benefit paid by Omega, implemented to support our employees. When using EAP services, questions about your health insurance provider may be asked so EAP can craft a plan that is right for you. EAP is strictly bound by ethical and legal guidelines that keep all interactions completely confidential. Immediate dependents which include spouses, domestic partners, and unmarried children up to age 26 are also eligible for EAP. EAP is available by phone by calling 800-316-2796 twentyfour hours a day, seven days a week. You can expect to speak directly and immediately to a licensed counselor and receive support and guidance for developing an action plan that best meets your needs. omega TRUST academy Our TRUST Academy continues to update the construction divisions outlined under the Master Format from the Construction Specifications Institute, or CSI. Our next scheduled module review is set for November 19, 2021 and will complete the revisions for the concrete division. Next April, I will have been at Omega for twenty years.

Why did you join Omega?

I knew Paul Covington for several years and we’d discussed working together many times. I always respected Paul and Omega, so when it all finally came together for me to join Omega, I knew it was the right thing to do, and did not hesitate.

What do you love most about Omega?

I love the family atmosphere and comradery we have as a company. I doubt the culture developed here over the past twenty years could be found elsewhere.

Who inspires you? My wife inspires me. She puts up with me and our three kids,

through my work hours and their busy school and ball schedules. She does all this and still keeps our meals cooked, clothes clean, and works her own full time job. She does all this with a smile and never complains. Without her, our busy lives could not function.

If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose?

I was lucky enough to have the best mentor I could have chosen. Paul Covington gave me the opportunity to pursue the career I loved and taught me how to succeed in that career.

Not only did I learn construction from Paul, but he also taught me about life. From Paul, I learned how to treat people with respect and courtesy and try to always do the right thing in all situations, even if it did not benefit me. Paul taught me as much about being a man as he did about doing my job, and I will always be grateful for that.

Why did you join Omega?

I came from John S. Clark, where I worked thirty-five years with Barry Hennings, Kevin Hennings, Greg Marshall, and Kirk Matthews, to name a few. I have worked for Omega for almost nine years now.

What do you love most about Omega?

I love their family values and concern for their employees; they’re always there to help if you need them, job-related or personal.

How do you define success?

Success is establishing a good working-relationship with owners, their representatives, and subcontractors... to complete a job that everyone can be proud of, as a team.

I always strive to be an asset to the company.

What is a fun fact about you that not many know?

omega gives back to the winston area by volunteering at second harvest food bank Omega teams volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina and saw first-hand the need for help in the Triad. We are proud to support Second Harvest Food Bank by participating in their annual “Empty Bowls” fundraiser, volunteering, and donating annually. Employees were happy to give their time to support this mission of preventing hunger in our community and look forward to the next opportunity to volunteer. At Omega, we have four divisions: Triad, Retail, Industrial, and Savannah. Vice Presidents oversee divisional projects, team members, and marketing initiatives. Omega sincerely thanks each Vice President for the significant contributions they make each day. We are proud of the leadership in place and highlight recent divisional achievements. New Savannah Office, Coming 2022

todd mayo savannah division Hello from down South! Even with the ongoing uncertainties of the pandemic and continued market volatility, it is an exciting time to be part of the Omega team. We have so much to be thankful for and appreciate the continued level of commitment the company has shown our employees through it all. The recent outpouring of support and prayer for David Simmons made me realize even more what we have here at Omega, a true family.

A lot is happening in the Savannah Division with the recent close out of Phase One at The Grove and completion of the Housing Authority project last month. Kudos to our project teams for a job well done! The Richmond Hill Amenity project is well underway, along with our new Savannah office building. The Cambria and Aloft hotel takeover projects are moving toward completion and should wrap up early next year. The Villas by the Sea renovation project is in full swing, as well as the Montgomery Street project we began early this summer. Our team is focused on project execution and doing a fantastic job. Our backlog continues to strengthen as we enter 2022, which we expect it to be a record year.

The Village on the Bluff, 1400 MLK and Direct Distributor projects are currently under contract and moving forward.

We have secured preconstruction agreements on the Del Webb Amenity and Earl’s Court projects which will be great additions to our portfolio.

The Lowcountry construction market has gained a lot of traction since returning to more normal operations and our Business Development efforts now reach from Charleston to Florida. Reflecting on how far we’ve come in three short years, I am amazed by the great team we have built in the Savannah office and am grateful to each one of you for buying into the vision from day one. Your dedication and continued hard work are the reasons for our success. I can’t wait to cut the ribbon on our new office building next year and get us into a well-deserved new home! Thank you to our leadership team in Winston Salem and the guidance you provide, as well as the support and patience of the administrative and operations teams. A huge ‘thank you’ to Lisa, Anjie, Elly, Kayla, Patrick, Eric, and Amber for everything you do for us. We truly could not do it without you. ALWAYS PUTTING SAFETY FIRST Practice Safe Driving Distracted driving is one of the greatest safety issues faced today. Distracted drivers aren’t just a threat to themselves; they are a danger to everyone else on the road. Any non-driving activity is a potential distraction and increases the risk of being involved in a motor vehicle accident. Distractions can be visual - taking eyes off the road, manual taking hands off the wheel, or cognitive - taking mind off what you’re doing.

Texting is the most alarming distraction because it involves all three types of distractions - visual, manual, and cognitive. Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that’s like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.

Driving Safety Statistics • In the United States, about 9 people are killed every day due to car crashes involving a distracted driver • Over 1000 people are injured every day in crashes caused by distracted driving • Reaching for an object increases the chances of a car crash by about 8 times • Texting and driving causes 1 out of 4 car crashes • It takes the brain 13 seconds to refocus after using a cell phone • On average, texting or reading a text takes a driver’s eyes off the road for at least 5 seconds • Once a driver has been distracted, it takes only 3 seconds for a car crash to occur • Texting and driving is 6 times more likely to lead to a car accident than driving drunk • Hands-free phone use while driving is still also dangerous. When listening or speaking on the phone, the brain’s ability to process moving images decreases by up to 1/3, and, even when the driver’s eyes are on the road, they overlook 50% of what is around them

PROJECT SPOTLIGHTS

CHESTERFIELD GITC BUILDING 1C RINCON, GA Omega continues to build its portfolio with the most recent completion at Georgia International Trade Center.

The latest speculative building Omega constructed at GITC is a 250,600 square foot space, similar to the previously built warehouses in this expansive park. It has structural streel framing, TPO membrane roofing, and tilt-wall construction.

Omega began foundation work in July of 2020 and concluded work with the shell portion in late March of 2021. Omega then began work on an office buildout for DeWell, the same tenant Omega previously built an office for at the 2A Warehouse, across the street. Work began on the office buildout in mid-April and Omega received a certificate of occupancy by the end of June. Omega continues pushing forward with this multi-faceted project at GITC and is proud of the work already completed onsite.

LOWES FOODS COLUMBIA, SC Omega’s latest renovation was a conversion of an existing Bi-Lo grocery store into a new Lowes Foods store.

Exterior renovation included demolition of existing features and installation of new parapet and façade framing, new cementitious siding, aluminum storefront and glass, automatic entrance doors, and painting of the entire exterior. Interior renovation included demolition of existing ceilings, flooring and walls to accommodate new renovation. Omega’s team installed new ceilings, walls, flooring, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC for this renovation, which now includes new Beer Den, Chicken Kitchen, Cakery, Pick-N-Prep, and Lowes Foods To-Go areas. Well done, team.

TOMMY’S EXPRESS FAYETTEVILLE, NC Omega’s Triad Division recently completed another new Tommy’s Express.

The 5,200-square-foot car wash is one of many projects Omega broke ground on for the franchise. The newly constructed facility is a steel-framed building with a glass storefront system. This particular car wash includes a long wash bay, as well as mezzanines on each end of the building for offices and storage spaces. Tommy’s Express is an automated car wash, equipped with vacuum and mat wash stations, that provide a comprehensive option for their customers.

EMPLOYEE UPDATES A Friend to be Missed It is with heavy hearts the Omega family grieves the loss of a wonderful, hard-working, caring friend and co-worker, David Barry Simmons, age 58, who passed away on October 1st, 2021. David joined Omega in 2016. During his tenure at Omega, David managed several sizeable, high-profile projects, with his signature projects being the Hotel Indigo historic renovation in downtown WinstonSalem, and the Hampton Inn in Asheville. David was one of Omega’s most dedicated and hard-working employees, often working tireless long hours to meet a project deadline and live up to his commitments to Omega’s customers. David embodied Omega’s motto “We Build Trust” in the trust he built with customers, co-workers, and subcontractors. He was known around the office for being a generous, happy soul with a candy bowl and a drawer full of snacks, should anyone need a “pick-me-up” during the workday. David will be greatly missed by the Omega team.
