HOW SHOULD CHRISTIANS RESPOND TO POLITICAL TURMOIL? Jim Denison Denisonforum.org (Recemtly), the stock market suffered its biggest one-day loss in eight months, a decline Reuters attributes to continued turmoil in Washington. We should not expect this turmoil to die down any time soon. The Justice Department has appointed Robert J. Mueller, a former FBI director, as special counsel to oversee its investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election. This after the Senate Intelligence Committee asked former FBI Director James Comey to testify during a public hearing. They are also asking for memos prepared by Comey detailing his conversations with the White House and Justice Department

about the FBI’s Russia investigations. Democrats are escalating their criticisms of his administration while Republicans are divided. The president’s supporters blame the media and other groups they believe are aligned against his reform agenda. His critics see recent events as further evidence of his alleged shortcomings. We should not be surprised that a nation as polarized as ours would be polarized over these events. This is a time for Christians to stand apart from the crowd. As followers of the One who is the Truth (John 14:6), we are commanded to “speak the truth to one another” (Zechariah 8:16). As followers of the One who is love (1 John 4:8), we are commanded to do so

“in love” (Ephesians 4:15). As followers of the “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16), we are commanded to respect those in authority (Romans 13:1) while serving our highest authority (Acts 4:19–20). A second-century letter from an unknown author to a person named Diognetus describes how early Christians distinguished themselves from their culture: “Christians are indistinguishable from other men either by nationality, language, or customs. They do not inhabit separate cities of their own, or speak a strange dialect, or follow some outlandish way of life. . . . With regard to dress, food, and manner of life in general, they follow the customs of whatever city they happen to

be living in, whether it is Greek or foreign. “And yet there is something extraordinary about their lives. They live in their own countries as though they were only passing through. They play their full role as citizens, but labor under all the disabilities of aliens. Any country can be their homeland, but for them their homeland, wherever it may be, is a foreign country. Like others, they marry and have children, but they do not [kill] them. They share their meals, but not their wives. They live in the flesh, but they are not governed by the desires of the flesh. They pass their days upon earth, but they are citizens of heaven. Obedient to the law, they yet live on a level that transcends the

A Letter to Papa By April James Precious Heavenly Father, As we celebrate Father’s Day I wanted to take a moment to thank you for giving me life, for desiring me and planning for me from the beginning of time. I was not an accident or a chance encounter of sperm and egg; you planned for me. You thought so much of me that you personally knit me together. You even chose my parents, and…I even thank you for them, though at times I would have liked a different pair, I recognize I would not be who I am today if it had not in part been for them. I may not like certain things about my features but you say I am perfect – so I take your word for it. Thank you for wanting me when no one else did, for accepting me just as I am; weaknesses, faults and all. You saw the good in me when I didn’t even see it myself. You valued me when the world tossed me aside; they did not recognize that I was created in your image and could do all things through Christ who strengthened me. And what wonderful plans, purpose, and destiny, you had for me. When I strayed you searched for me and brought me back into the fold. You fought for me when I did not have the strength to fight; all I had to do was be still and let you. You have spared and rescued me more times than I can count or will ever know. Thank you for being my refuge and all the times you sheltered me under your wings, near to your heart. In this topsy-turvy crazy mixed up world, you give me strength equal to

each day. I am thankful you are beside me and let me lean on you. And all these heavy burdens that come up in life - you let me hand them over to you and you fill me with peace. You give me hope when life has seems hopeless. How can I even begin to thank you for everything in life; for all the blessings, joys, family, friends and the like? You have extended mercy and grace beyond measure. You have mentored me, allowed me to know your presence, to see the heart of a good Father, and to know you as friend. You let me know and experience your vast unconditional love, a love I could not begin to describe - nor ever earn; yet you freely give to me, simply because you love me. Papa, I adore you so, you mean the world to me. Your truly are wonderful. You are the reason I can joyfully face each day and rest secure in the night. I love you not because I have to, but because I get to; you wooed me to yourself with your love and goodness. There is none that compares to you, my heart is forever yours. Lovingly, Your Precious Child

Sun Therapy By Paula McBride “Finally!” you say, as the days warm up and the sun shines brightly. “It’s been a long winter and rainy spring, but thank God for relief from drought.” We are so grateful for the change in weather that we dare not complain that it got too hot too fast. Mr. Sun is just doing his job as he is held in the competent hand of his Creator. Can you imagine the dialog in heaven during the week of creation? It was a uniquely miraculous time, and miraculous events took place outside of today’s natural laws. For instance, the light of the first day of creation, according to the Hebrew word used, refers to the presence of light only. We know that “God is light” according to I John 1:5. So on day four, the Trinity may have discussed which physical bodies to use as “light bearers” (the best translation of its Hebrew word) during the daytime and the

nighttime. In their divinity, the Creators chose a lesser star to warm the earth during the day. As translated into English, we have our word, sun. Oh, what a blessing our sun is! How wonderful to let its warmth seep into weary shoulders when we relax on the patio. How amazing that the garden plants and trees bloom and grow because of the sun’s work in photosynthesis. What other benefits does God shower on us in the sunbeams? Scientists tell us that exposure to the sun on our arms and faces without sunscreen for 15-30 minutes a day can benefit us in several ways. The sun’s UV rays cause us to release serotonin which can lift our moods. We can get a better night’s sleep. The warmth of the sun can open our blood vessels which can lower blood pressure. Most notably, Vitamin D

is produced by the skin’s reaction to UV rays which improves bone health, aids in preventing cancer, seasonal disorders, and depression. As more information becomes available about the benefits of sun exposure, doctors are prescribing “sun therapy” to improve the health of their patients. As we think ahead to a summer full of sunny days, we can find “Son therapy” as we spend time with the One who is the Light of the World. “I am the light of the world,” Jesus told His listeners. “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Jesus knows our areas of darkness that need His radiance. He knows the physical and emotional wounds of our hearts. Those wounds need His touch to bring joy, rest, healing, or forgiveness. He knows the cancers of sin in our lives that need the laser of His love. As we heal in the hands of Jesus, we find we become bearers of His light. His light shines through us as a display of redemption that will draw others into the warmth of the heart of God. Heavenly sunshine! Oh, what a glory! Jesus is mine!

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” ---John 8:12

CBA MARKETPLACE MONTHLY What Should We Do?

I love the practicality of Scripture. I am a simple guy who loves simple, easy to understand teaching and the Bible is full of it. Mark Twain said it best, “It ain’t those parts of the Bible that I can’t understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.” I personally believe that many evangelists have done and continue to mislead many people with an incomplete presentation of the Gospel. For example, some will say, “just say this prayer and you will be saved” Quite often that prayer lacks one key word, “REPENT.” John the Baptist made it crystal clear when he said in Luke 3:8a (NLT) “Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God….” I understand only God knows the sincerity of a potential convert. However, I believe “if there’s no fruit, there’s no root!” After John says to prove by your actions that your commitment is genuine, three groups of people want to know specifically what they need to do and John answers them in Luke 3:10-14 (NLT). The crowds asked, “What should we do?” John replied, “If you have two

shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.” Even corrupt tax collectors came to be baptized and asked, “Teacher, what should we do?” He replied, “Collect no more taxes than the government requires.” “What should we do?” asked some soldiers. John replied, “Don’t extort money or make false accusations. And be content with your pay.” Unfortunately, I have had conversations with people who are considering Christ and instead of asking what they need to do (change, or give up) to give their lives to Christ, they ask, “can I still do (and they mention some sinful behavior) and be a Christian?” Two points to consider. Number one. our own commitment to Christ. Is it genuine? Do we have a genuine desire to please Him? Number two. When we present the Gospel to others, let’s make sure we include a clear message on repentance. Jesus said to count the cost before following Him. We want to be sure when we lead someone to Jesus Christ, that we are not leaving out some politically incorrect points: sin, repentance and hell.

Be The People Who Hear His Word and DO It! By Dr. Ronald Harden, President EPIC Bible College and Graduate School As we look at this mid-point time of year and the new Summer season approaching, it’s important to take a look at our own lives and ask for God’s help and strength as we seek to be all that He desires us to be. He loves us so very much, exactly as we are, and wants to help us become even more like Him in what we say, think and do. Jesus encourages us to be people who hear his word and take action to DO it. We need to learn to hear with understanding. Scripture says, “Let them hear what the Spirit says to the church.” That means that we have our spiritual ears and eyes open to comprehend and apply

the Word of God to our lives. Jesus tells of the one who hears His word and does it is likened to a wise person who builds their house upon a rock. Literally, that means we have a real foundation to build upon, not simply dirt or sand alone. The Bible encourages us that there is no other foundation laid but that which is laid in Christ Jesus, and let everyone be careful how they build upon that. We’re talking about what happens when we surrender our lives to God and He uses that time to mold us to become more like Him in every way! Ultimately, God is interested in every part of our individual lives. And, He wants to help us to have greater strength to withstand difficulties that life will

bring upon us all. The Bible has such wonderful depth and character in its words that even the individual that has been in relationship with God for years, still has room to grow and see the power of God manifest in our lives. The Psalms help guide us in how Jesus describes that condition whereby we hear and respond to His word. “We need to worship the Lord (or serve the Lord) with gladness!” We are admonished to do this because when God asks us to do something, we should be able to say with all of our heart: “God, I would love to!” When God asks us to do things, we need to respond with the right attitude, and the right action, which will then produce the right result in our lives. In retrospect, it is a great joy to look at the changing of the seasons, knowing within a few months that we will be talking about how much we dislike the heat and can’t wait until the cool weather of Fall and Winter return! Please remember, God is with us and His changing of the seasons is meant to remind us that “In the day of adversity and in the day of prosperity, consider God has made the one as well as the other,” and “He will never leave us nor forsake us!” In this changing season from Spring to Summer, may God bless you richly is our prayer!

LIFE MATTERS presented by Yuba-Sutter Right To Life TRUMP EXPANDS DEFUNDING OF PLANNED PARENTHOOD Steven Ertelt of LifeNews.com In January, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to defund the International Planned Parenthood abortion business. Now, Trump is expanding that order. When former President Obama took office, he overturned the Mexico City Policy that prevented funding of groups that promote or perform abortions overseas. The Mexico City Policy covered over $400 million in federal funds, part of which flowed to the abortion businesses International Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International for their foreign efforts. The pro-life policy had been in place during the entirety of the Bush administration and Obama rescinded it on his first week in office. Named for a 1984 population conference where President Reagan initially announced it, the Mexico City Policy made it so family planning funds could only go to groups that would agree to not do abortions or lobby foreign nations to overturn their pro-life laws. Trump restored the Mexico City Policy by executive order to stop taxpayer funding of groups that perform and promote abortions overseas but it does

President Trump signing documents to expand defunding of Planned Parenthood. not stop non-abortion international assistance. The order ensures U.S. foreign aid will continue to go to health care and humanitarian relief in the millions of dollars. It just will not subsidize abortion overseas. Now, CBN News is reporting that the Trump Administration will significantly expand the pro-life Mexico City Policy by drastically increasing the amount of global health assistance funds and government programs that will be covered under the

policy. CBN reported “A White House official tells The Brody File that on Monday they’ll announce a policy called, “Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance,” in which $8.8 billion will be appropriated through various federal agencies and departments. In essence, President Trump is taking the pro-life policy to a whole different level.” Let’s explain. The Mexico City Policy requires non-governmental organizations to agree not to “perform nor actively

promote abortion as a method of family planning in other nations.” President Trump reinstated the policy in January after eight years of it lapsing under President Obama. The order also directs Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to come up with a plan on how to apply the policy to all departments or agencies. The exact language is as follows: I direct the Secretary of State, in coordination with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, to the extent allowable by law, to implement a plan to extend the requirements of the reinstated Memorandum to global health assistance furnished by all departments or agencies. I further direct the Secretary of State to take all necessary actions, to the extent permitted by law, to ensure that U.S. taxpayer dollars do not fund organizations or programs that support or participate in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization. In an email to LifeNews.com, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser praised Trump for expanding the policy.

Con’t From Pg 1 - “...CHRISTIANS RESPOND...” law. . . . “To speak in general terms, we may say that the Christian is to the world what the soul is to the body. As the soul is present in every part of the body, while remaining distinct from it, so Christians are found in all the cities of the world, but cannot be identified with the world.”

As political turmoil continues, let’s be people whose reasoned, truthful, and gracious speech sets us apart. What matters most is not what others think of us or even of the president. What matters most is what they think of Jesus. And the world judges Christ by Christians.

Con’t From Pg 14 - “LIFEMATTERS/TRUMP” “Votes in America have international consequences. The Executive Memorandum implemented today is one of the reasons pro-life voters worked to elect Donald Trump to the White House. With the implementation of Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance, we have officially ceased exporting abortion to foreign nations. No longer will we undermine the pro-life laws and cultural commitments of other countries by funding organizations like Marie Stopes International that obsessively promote

and perform abortion,” she said. Dannenfelser told LifeNews: “By modernizing this important policy and expanding it to include $8.8 billion in foreign aid, President Trump is continuing Ronald Reagan’s pro-life legacy. This executive order does not cut a single penny from U.S. aid, rather it simply ensures our hard-earned tax dollars are used by other health care entities that act consistently to save lives, rather than promoting and performing abortion. Abortion is not health care.”

yet he hopes that his music will reach a wider audience than only those who share that faith.

Editor,

Chance the Rapper has said that, while he identifies as a Christian he does not intentionally create Christian music. In an interview with Teen Vogue magazine, the artist, whose music often has Christian themes, said his purpose is not to fit his music into a certain label, but rather to try to transcend a specific label. “One of my biggest fears with Coloring Book was that it would be labeled. I hate labels. I never sought out for people to recognize it as a gospel album,” said

Chance, referring to his latest album, which won him three Grammy awards. According to Relevant, he added that,

“I don’t make Christian rap, but I am a Christian rapper.” Chance doesn’t hide his Christian faith,

“When I was going out and trying to fully give glory to God, in my setting, I feared that people would be dismissive of it, like, ‘This is Christian rap, I’m not trying to hear it,’ he said in the Teen Vogue interview. “But it’s the total opposite: People were very accepting of it. Whether they say, ‘I’m an atheist, but I love Coloring Book’ or they say, ‘I’m so glad I was able to get closer to God through this project,’ people had formed opinions about what I put into the world. I think that’s always the goal of art, is to make people ask themselves questions.”

As Christians we have been forgiven by Jesus Christ of every sin. The atonement of His blood cleansed us from all our sin, past present and future taken away! And yet we presume to judge others so quickly! We tell them they’re wrong and become angry and judgmental. Yes, you have forgiveness for eternity but you forfeit God’s power and blessing in your life as well as answered prayers when you judge others! Most of this Behavior takes place in our homes, if you want God’s blessing give your family forgiveness, understanding, mercy and love and God will bless you abundantly!

EDITORIAL ACADEMIA NUTS By Jon Skillman What ever happened to those once great institutions of higher learning? You know…those halls of free expression… those places of divergent thought and open debate? They’re gone! Why? Here’s my theory. The collective mind of academia has been closed by elitism and self-absorbing intellect. This rarefied environment is not conducive to ideas or worldviews beyond its own. This academic interbreeding has spawned a snowflake culture that has been removed from reality…a cocoon from which snowflakes emerge as full blown academic flakes. For example, a professor at Northern Arizona University downgraded a student’s paper because it contained the word “mankind.” Word choice should be at the discretion of the writer not the ideology of the reader. The word mankind was not gender neutral enough to Soothe the professor’s insecurities. She even went so far as to warn her students against quoting, Neil Armstrong’s; “One small step for man, one giant step for mankind.” Why this big push for gender neutrality? God created us wonderfully different, or as the French might say; Viva la difference. We shouldn’t be neutralizing gender; we should be celebrating one of the greatest gifts in which God has blessed us. Should there be equality between the sexes? Absolutely. But that doesn’t mean we are the same. Another professor thinks women shouldn’t be mandated… oops there’s that

pesky man word again… I mean forced to breastfeed their babies… and men should take over that area of parenting. I think there’s still a little snow on that flake. Still another professor demanded that a student stop reading his Bible prior to class (Not during class, mind you, but during his own free…but obviously not free, time). This professor, who also teaches classes in “Global Queer History” and “Feminist Theology,” is obviously uncomfortable in the presence of God’s Word. Global Queer History? Feminist Theology? Really? Why are these professors allowed to abuse their authority and deny students their constitutional rights in a public university? They should be rapped across the knuckles with their own mortarboards. But administrators reside in that same cocoon, a cocoon devoid of discipline. This is only a small sample of what is going on across this nation. The anarchists of academia are running amok and no one seems to have the desire or the ability to stop them. This is the result you get from a Godless equation. This is what happens when there is no discipline in academia. These are the products of a system that denies absolute truth. Jesus said, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Absolutely free. And that’s the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Faith Night 2017 It’s June and that means a lot of things. School’s out, the weather is hot, Father’s Day, and of course, Faith Night! This year you’re invited to the 10th Annual Faith Night @ The Gold Sox!. Wow! It’s hard to believe that this event has been going on for a decade! The Ambassador has been joining the Christian Business Alliance since the beginning when we welcomed Dave Dravecky to speak at the 1st Faith Night. It has been an honor and a privilege to be involved. We’ve seen some of the largest crowds ever at a Gold Sox game on some of those Faith Night events. Last year, we were surprised by a very comfortable temperature (and a few drops of rain). While I’m not sure if we will be looking for umbrellas to cover our heads from the rain or from the scorching sun, either way we hope you come prepared for a night of inspiration, fellowship, and fun. Pastor Larry Koen will be sharing a brief message of the

Seth Halpern - Editor Gospel so please bring your family and friends who don’t know the wonderful saving grace of Jesus. As usual, free tickets will be available throughout our community. Most of the local churches will have them as well as many local businesses including Crosspointe Christian Books. There will be tables set up by various ministries so that you can get information and answers to your questions. There will also be live Christian music before the game. This year, the Yuba City Bears will be playing the Marysville Gold Sox in the debut of the Feather River Rivalry. Come early if you can to enjoy all the festivities. Gates open at 4:30pm. This is probably the largest gathering of the Christian community and we hope you will be a part of it. (See the center “Summer Fun” section for more info).
