by: John Stonestreet & Roberto Rivera Breakpoint.org Once again in California, we see that the new sexual orthodoxy trumps the Constitution. All Americans should be alarmed, and I mean increasingly so, about the California Assembly’s increasing disregard for the First Amendment. After all, it’s the California Assembly that attempted to require pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise the state’s “free or low-cost” abortion services, the subject of a recent Supreme Court oral argument. Even liberal Justice Sotomayor called that law “burdensome and wrong.”

It’s hard to predict where this thing will reach. Words like “goods,” “acceptance,” “support” and “understanding” are the legal equivalent of minefields waiting to blow up. For example, if a psychotherapist doesn’t try to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity but is, in the patients’ eyes, insufficiently accepting, supportive, and understanding, has he run afoul of AB 2943? And what constitutes a “good?” Does

••• In The Storms ••• by April James Storms come in many forms; what is a storm for one may be a rainy day for another and vice versa. But storms…they do come. When it’s dark with the winds of adversities howling and beating against us - fear nips at our heals trying to shake our foundation. When we feel we can barely stand another moment, there seems to be a still small voice saying “My little one, listen to the sound of My voice I will safely guide you through”. In that moment, a glimmer of hope begins to dawn. Casting a glance heavenward in surrender, we tune our ears to hear more; tenderly He says “Come, My child, come closer. Let Me hold you and comfort your distressed heart. My peace I give to you, don’t let circumstances rattle you; I have promised to always be with you in the good and difficult times. There is nothing you can’t handle when you are holding My hand”. Though storms continue to rage around, a peace warms us, starting from within, as we hold onto His words. When we gain our bearings, one might ask, “Lord, why did you not speak sooner when I was trying so hard to hear you?” He gently replies “Why do you strive so hard in your mind - by your will, to hear Me. Listen and hear with your heart. A

of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall” Ps 55:22. I pray that when the storms rage that, like Jesus, we will be filled with peace and can rest in the tossing boat, secure and confident in our heavenly Father to see us through; that our ears will be open to hear His still small voice; his words of comfort, encouragement, hope, and promises. And, in faith, say to the storm – peace be still. www.BeyondTheSilverCoin.org

cluttered mind has difficulty hearing, as does a spirit in unrest. Let My peace fill you; in the quiet place you can hear Me better”. When we try to make the Lord speak by an act of our will, we become anxious and at unrest. When we consider King David, a mighty warrior, he never said he was unafraid but that “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear…” Ps 56:3-4. We need to consider what we are thinking about. Are we thinking and speaking in fear or faith? Are our words lining up with His words? Is our mind dwelling on all the past victories and times the Lord has seen us through hard situations or, are we

DO NOT DISTURB by Christy Boals www.gracefilledpurpose.com Do you ever feel like hanging a “Do Not Disturb” sign around your neck? I know I do. I would like a break from my children’s minor emergencies, unexpected events that come up in life, or people doing things that are irritating or hurtful. In short, I don’t want life to disturb me! I would rather cruise along, serene, in a cleanhotel-roomwith-fluffypillows kind of existence. I guess after a while it might get boring, but it would be nice to try for a few days. I understand this is not reality, and definitely not what we are called to as followers of Christ, because I know this is not how Jesus lived. In fact, it almost seems as though He had a “Disturb Me” sign around His neck. The difference is in how Jesus reacted to what I view as disturbances to His ministry. He sure didn’t react like I do! He was able to look beyond the inconvenience to Himself and really see the person and

their need right in front of Him. This is so hard for us to do sometimes, especially with children. After all, we have a to-do list and most of the items on it are things we need to do for them. My kids don’t seem to understand though, and feel that their questions are more important than what I think I am supposed to be doing today. My desire is to be more like Jesus when the unexpected happens, when I get that surprise phone call, when a child suddenly throws up all over the floor, or when a teenager has a need to talk late in the evening. I pray that we can all have patience to approach the interruptions in our days with grace and peace, looking at them not so much as disturbances, but as opportunities to love others like Jesus did. “Now when Jesus saw the crowds, He had compassion for them because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Matthew 9:36

• An Unlikely Saint • By Paula McBride What would qualify a nursing-school dropout for sainthood? My siblings and I thought our mom was a saint, but her life was anything but heavenly. Born toward the end of World War I in rural Louisiana, my mom’s family might have been considered poor white trash. Her father left, as many did in those years, to find work in Saint Louis, Missouri. Unfortunately, he never came back. He legally divorced my grandmother who took her two young children into her brother’s home. Grandma lived out her days under his care, but my mother left as soon as she could and enrolled in nursing school. While in school, she preferred to dance, party, and hang out with friends. She almost made it to graduation.

One evening, mom was playing ping-pong in the nurses’ dorm when a handsome young sailor came to pick up his date. While waiting, he couldn’t take

his eyes off the stunning blond ping-pong player. Rather than wait for his date, he whisked my mom out for a night on the town. Eleven days later, they crossed the Louisiana border into Texas and were married by a justice of the peace. The plan was to keep the marriage secret so mom could finish nurses’ training, but the secret got out, and my mom had to quit school and begin life as a Navy wife. By the grace of God, even though the couple married after only knowing each other eleven days, they stayed together. For my mom, though, an emptiness nagged her. Having been raised in church, she decided to take her little

girl (I was born later) to Sunday school. My sister cried at being left, so my mom stayed with her and listened to the lessons. Soon, through the loving spirit of the Sunday school teacher, my mom accepted Christ as her Savior. By the time I came along, and later my brother, my mom was well on the way to sainthood, or so we thought. She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength, and made sure we were in church and school environments that poured truth into her kids’ lives. As her days came to an end, and her home-going was near, my mom was ready. She loved to hear scripture read. I loaded old hymns on my phone and played them for her. When I could, I wheeled her near the piano and played hymns that she could sing word for word. Often, when I began quoting a verse of scripture, she could finish it from memory. Her love for Jesus lit her face and influenced those around her. Now, I follow her legacy. May I be ready to love and serve in the name of Christ as she did. How grateful I am that she kept me in church and Christian schools where I learned the love of God for myself. Yes, she’s an unlikely saint, but God captivated her, and now He’s keeping her in His presence forever.

It always sees the best in people. She turned 89 in January. She has dementia and unable to care for herself. She is a college educated woman. I followed her footsteps right unto nursing. She retired when she was 72. She has been a widow since 1984. Raising 5 children and helping us with college. She made a statement one time about her life. She said when people decide to have children,

their own life stops. Everything is for the child. I hope she had a good life. I know people are alive because of my mom. Her and dad did the best they knew to do. They made sure we had the best of them and we were happy. I live 2300 miles away. I go home every chance I can. I love to see her face. - Martha Eubanks

Her Children R ise Up And Call Her Blessed

- Proverbs 31:28

I never met my real mother and was raised in a foster home until I was in my teens and then I was abandoned. Long story short a mother of a school friend of mine allowed me to stay with them. She was a single mother with five kids and not much of an income, yet she never made me feel in the way or a burden of any kind. She was very strong in her faith of the Lord and led by example what it means to be a servant of God. She would not only give her last dime in the offering plate , but she would make it fun for us to go out and collect cans for gas money for the family car to make up the difference and have total blind faith that it would work out ( and it always did lol. ) Please don’t feel sorry for me or them we were taught to be grateful, the value of a dollar and what it meant to give back. I was not her child so I would watch as an “outsider” yet living on the inside of their home and with as little as we had she always had enough for anyone else in need. It was a given that somehow the food never ran out, even though there was never enough to begin with! One more example of this amazing

lady is that we had a Greyhound bus station two blocks from the house, and the bus left once a day each morning. She would walk to the store to carry groceries home because she didn’t have money for the gas needed to drive around just for convenience sake. More time then I could ever count, she would be carrying she stuff and come across someone waiting for the bus. She would bring them home, introducing them to us and feed them allow them to stay the night and wake them up in time for the bus. I could say so much more but I’ll stop here. She showed us all by believing in God, remaining faithful and doing God’s work and spreading the word when ask why she was always so giving happy and care free. This lady is not only my mother, but also my hero as much as the Lord is my Father. Thank you for asking what your mother did for you and why you love her because I always have great things to say about her. May you all have been valued as children more than any materialistic thing here on Earth, Amen. - Mark Anthony Carter

LIFE MATTERS presented by Yuba-Sutter Right To Life TV NETWORKS IGNORE PRO-LIFE WALKOUT, SPENT 10 MINUTES COVERING GUN WALKOUT by Katie Yoder It was a tale of two protests. After a school walkout against gun violence in March, students across the country organized a pro-life walkout in support of the unborn and pregnant and parenting students. But the networks only covered one of them. The three broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) never once mentioned the pro-life walkout during their news shows on the night of the event, April 11. In contrast, the same evening shows devoted more than 10 minutes to the gun walkout the day it happened. This comes after the networks covered the March for Our Lives 13 times more than the pro-life March for Life. The walkout site listed 191 high schools and 81 colleges as participating. But according to a Tuesday statement from Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life of America (SFLA), which helped organize the event, “more than 350 students and student group leaders from across the country have contacted Students for Life about their plans to stand with pregnant and parenting students.” The site called for an end to abortion

and the defunding of Planned Parenthood: On Wednesday, April 11th, we will walk out of our classes for 17 minutes of silence and prayer. We will stand silently outside honoring the 10 children who will violently die during that time at a Planned Parenthood abortion facility … We will kneel and pray for the end of legal abortion in our nation. In a statement to MRC Culture, Hawkins reacted to the discrepancy in coverage. “No one is surprised that media bias is so obvious when it comes to abortion,” she began. “People who are passionate about the life issue, about mothers and their preborn infants, know that the media doesn’t like to cover this human rights atrocity,” she added, pointing to coverage

of the March for Life as an example. But that doesn’t mean it was right, she added. “It’s still worth noting that the media went all in for the anti-gun walkout, talking about lives lost and free speech, while ignoring the #ProLifeWalkout, in which we mourn the fact that onefourth of this generation has been lost to abortion, and students have a right to speak about that as well,” she continued. While the gun walkout was larger, Hawkins stressed that it boasted more help from powerful outsiders, including the media. “The Astroturf nature of the anti-gun walkout, with lots of money coming in

from politically well-connected, national organizations and celebrities along with the media and school support definitely helped with their turnout,” she said. “Or at least it looked good on TV.” For the walkout, her one request of the media was that they “cover it. Period.” “Most major media will pretend it didn’t happen,” she added. “They will hope, by their actions, to hide the reality that people care about lives lost to abortion just as they care about lives lost to gun violence.” The networks didn’t listen – for that walkout. But during their evening news shows on March 14, the same networks spent a combined spent 10 minutes, 14 seconds on the gun walkout the day it happened. On March 14, NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt recognized the national school walkout’s “unprecedented and powerful display.” From there, correspondent Gabe Gutierrez noted the “loudest lesson was outside the classroom” with the “17 minutes to honor the 17 victims” of the Parkland, Florida shooting. The network spent 4 minutes, 3 seconds on the walkout.

FROM THE ARCHIVES His Eyes by Nita Fochs My husband saw her first, a young woman on the escalator at the mall. She was going up as we were coming down. Her eyes were down cast as if to shut the world out. She was so saturated with a spirit of sorrow that it transferred to him as we passed by her, like a well inked rubber stamp on a fresh sheet of paper.

Passion – Glorifying God

“That is so sad” he said to me as we descended. We whispered prayers for her and we stepped off the stairs and into the mall. As we walked, I began to notice the faces of others we passed. Some looked weary, some happy, there was the mother pushing a stroller who looked fatigued, a pair of Gothic youth with pensive expressions, a group of young men in baggy, low-slung jeans and hard expressions, an elderly couple who moved slowly and deliberately and a swarm of giggling pre-teen girls that seemed to weave effortlessly in and out of the crowd.

How many of these people were hurting? How many of them were as deeply wounded as the young woman on the escalator, but had chosen to carefully disguise their feelings instead of wearing them for all to see? How many of them do we pass every day with no thought of praying for them, of seeking to ease their pain through the gifts our Father has given us to heal the broken-hearted?

Continued from Page 1: “California to ban books” an academic field of study count as a “good” or “service?” The implications for Christian colleges and universities are dire. Will a Summit Ministries conference, which teaches students they don’t need to act on same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria, be illegal in California? What about books, particularly those that endorse historic Christian teaching on sexuality and marriage, like my book with Sean McDowell? Would it be banned under this law? It’s absurd that under AB 2943, a California bookstore could sell “Mein Kampf” without legal repercussion, but not a book on changing, or even curbing the acting upon, sexual orientation. Nor is it clear which books would run afoul of AB 2943. There’s no spelled-out difference between a “how to” manual

for conversion therapy and a legal and cultural analysis of the issues, like, for example, “When Harry Became Sally” by Ryan Anderson. The bottom line is that AB 2943 is a textbook example of viewpoint discrimination. David French of National Review is right when he calls the bill “extraordinarily radical.” It should alarm us all that the obvious constitutional problems weren’t obvious to the sponsors and supporting legislators. The California Senate will now take up the bill. If you live in California, you

need to let your senator know that stifling free speech under the guise of consumer protection is beyond unacceptable. If you don’t live in California but have friends and relatives who do, send them this commentary and urge them to contact their state senator. (Editor’s note: After consulting with the state legislature, my understanding is that the bill targets “advertising and/or making profit from the sale of goods or services that engage ‘conversion therapy’. The bill targets fraudulency- putting it in the same category as the huckster who sells unproven “remedies” for sickness.

The problem is with the vagueness of the bill. Because of the vagueness, the door is open to lawsuits for advertising or selling anything that promotes religious values about traditional families. These lawsuits will end up in the hands of the California courts to interpret and decided the meaning of the bill/law. This is dangerous because of California’s notoriously leftleaning judges. Christian bookstores like Crosspointe, schools like Faith Christian, and even The Ambassador itself could be negatively impacted. Although this bill is still in process it is imperative that we contact our state senators and let our voices be heard.) For anyone who wants to learn more or directly contact their senators, California Family Council has set up AB2943.com.

If you would like to experience the peace and transformed life that God can provide through Jesus Christ and you are willing to commit your life to the only one who can truly set you free from your sin, you can pray to the Lord right now and ask Him to forgive you of your sins. Because of what His Son, Jesus, did by dying on the cross, your sins will not be held against you by God anymore. You can experience freedom for the rest of your life on earth and then have a life in Heaven with God for eternity. God’s part of the deal is already done. Your part is to confess your sins, repent (or change your ways) and believe that He is Lord. If your life is out of control, let Him take over control. All events begin at 7:30 p.m. PDT Sunday, May 20 — Escondido Monday, May 21 — Pasadena Wednesday, May 23 — Oxnard Friday, May 25 — Bakersfield Monday, May 28 — Fresno Tuesday, May 29 — Modesto Thursday, May 31 — Santa Clara Friday, June 1 — Berkeley Sunday, June 3 - Chico (Silver Dollar Fairgrounds) Tuesday, June 5 — Redding Typically a more liberal state, some may see California as hard ground to till spiritually.

But, “There’s hopelessness, apathy and despair everywhere,” explains Steve Rhoads, vice president of BGEA’s church ministry team. “California is like anywhere else— hope is in short supply,” he added. After the raging wildfires and mudslides the state endured this year, many are especially in need of something more. “The sense of no one being safe is pretty acute,” Rhoads said. Several prayer meetings ahead of the tour have already been held so local residents can begin to lift up their city and state. Churches are also preparing for the upcoming tour, getting the word out and encouraging members to get involved.

EDITORIAL THE PROGRESSIVE CHRISTIAN by Jon Skillman Definitions: Progressive: Adverb…Happening or developing gradually or in stages. Progressive: Noun…A person who is progressive or who favors progress. Progress: A movement toward a goal or a higher state. Using the above definitions, a progressive moves from one stage to another in a series of steps to achieve a certain goal or higher state. But in order to move toward something, you also move away from something else. It’s kind of a Newton’s law thing…you know, “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” Actually it’s not really Newton’s law, it’s God’s law, after all He created it and He makes it work…Sir Isaac simply recorded his observations of it. But I regress. So let’s look at a few moves the progressive movement has taken: They have moved from God to self, and from absolute truth to subjective truth, such as; I am not what I actually am, I am what I think. Progressives have stepped from moral standards to moral fluidity…like it’s really not perversion, it’s simply an alternative lifestyle. They have moved from God’s law to man’s law and from man’s law to anarchy. I really don’t know what the progressive’s ultimate goal is… and I suspect they don’t either. They just seem to delight in being “edgy and pushing the envelope,” but that envelope just might have their return address on it.

Can a Christian be progressive? Well, under the same definitions above…absolutely! In fact, we are commanded to be. It’s just that our goal and movements are, as old Newton observed, equal but opposite of those of the secular. How so you may ask? Well let’s examine the Christian goal and the steps needed to achieve it. A progressive Christian’s movement is called “Our Christian walk or Sanctification,” which steps us to a closeness to God and a growing likeness to Christ…our ultimate goal, however, is Glorification. Here are the progressive steps Christians must take to achieve this goal: Step from sin to salvation and forgiveness…this is called Justification. The next step is dying to self and living for Christ, this is known as being born again. The Christian steps away from the physical world and into the spiritual. James 4:4 graphically illustrates the differences between these two worlds: “…don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” Wow! Christians must step into God’s word which roots us in absolute truth, God’s law and moral standards. The final step is our physical death at which we are Glorified. The divide between the physical world and the Christian continues to grow…but if you find yourself separated from God…guess who moved?

A Wonderful Night! On Friday, April 20th, 150 people gathered at Adventure Church to enjoy a spaghetti dinner and entertaining variety show. This was our first ever fundraising event. If you missed it the only consolation I can offer is that there has been an overwhelming response for a 2nd annual event next year! I was asked why I didn’t advertise it more. My simple answer was that it was an early sellout. Most of the 21 tables were sold a month before and space was limited. Those who did get to attend were treated to some of the best and most unique talent in our community. Jeff Poppinga set the tone for the evening with a worship song and a fun oldies medley. Sandra Dutra followed with an absolutely beautiful and moving original song followed by a sweet love song for couples all accompanied by her ukulele. We then had a fun gameshow hosted by yours truly and assisted by LaDonna (Vanna) Curteman. Every one played and the winning table shared a huge 5 lb Hershey Bar! After a brief intermission, Spread The Light Ministry performed a unique and fun blacklight puppet show. Under the direction of Gary and Kathy Baland, the kids remained well-poised even through the technical difficulties. Kurt Baird followed with his bagpipes dressed in proper kilt attire. Prior to our final performer, we announced a few of the almost 20 raffles prizes! Finally, Magician Buzz Lawrence wowed us all with head-scratching illusions. Dave Kugelman, closed in prayer and dismissed us. There were also 4

Seth Halpern - Editor videos of current Ambassador sponsors interspersed throughout the evening. There are so many people to thank for making the evening a success. Here are a few (please forgive me if I left your name off): Pat & Doreen Maher and their team for making and serving the delicious dinner; LaDonna Curteman for helping in countless ways. JC and Kristen (no last names needed, like Beyonce!), Bill & Sonja Lindholm; Robbie Mitchell, Jeff Poppinga and all the performers who volunteered their time and talent. Thank you to Adventure Church, Pastor Greg, Jeff, Trish, Ian and any others involved for graciously hosting us and helping us with whatever we needed! I want to also acknowledge my family for their efforts. My wife, Angie for her help (and as John Gaiser said “long-suffering”) especially as the stress of planning took its toll; my brother Al who purchased a table from his home in Florida; my son James and daughter-in-law Shea, who stayed until the end when every last bag of trash was put in the dumpster. Finally, thank you to all who supported the event financially through purchasing tables, tickets or making donations. It was a success because of everyone of you! Lord willing, we’ll see you next year!
