by Seth Halpern, Editor As I considered the cover story for this issue, I was burdened by the top stories in the news these days. Politically, there is upheaval. Our president is facing accusations at every turn. Gun violence is resulting in marches and protests (often punctuated by violence). Sexual harassment allegations (often confirmed) at Christian leaders as well as high profile celebrities seem to becoming the norm. We’ve all watched the 24 hr news or even the local nightly newscasts to see a continual downward spiral of ungodliness. Unfortunately, recent development in our own region has brought us into the national spotlight. So, “where is God?” we may ask. If He’s

here, then why are these things happening. Well, He IS here and these things ARE still happening. Yet, there are things happening that don’t seem to make the news. Tragedy, slander, accusationsthese make “ g o o d ” news. For some reason, h u m a n s “itch” to hear about such things, much in the way that we slow down to look at car accidents.
Sure, we say that it’s terrible, yet these are the things that sell newspapers and increase TV ratings. All you have to do is look at the TV lineup on most channels to find a never-ending listing of crime, murder, g h o s t s , zombies and other “dark” programs. D o n ’ t

the plethora of shows about real-life tragedy, murder, adultery and the like. Fortunately, there is some “good news”. It may not sell well but just ask Ashley Ehlert. Her mother, Marysville’s Sheryl Lynn Donovan was in the news recently for being a missing person for 10 days. Thankfully, she didn’t end up on the news or TV show as a tragedy or cold-case investigation years from now. Instead, she found her way back home. It’s a great story and one that puts a smile on our faces. But there’s another part to this story. Ashley, the daughter of the missing person, wants people to know that her mother’s return was because of prayer.
