April 2019

by Jim Elliff That dreaded day is upon us again, April 15th. When our American fathers stormed the Boston docks, threw out the British tea, and cried, “No taxation without representation,” they could not possibly have imagined what freedom from our mother country would bring. Untold treasure and opportunity, true. But we also have incurred the privilege of paying now over 50% of our income in taxes of an alarming variety. You work half of the year just to do that. Many of those taxes are forked over on that depressing 24-hour period called April 15th. Some might be inclined to pine away for the good old days. To illustrate, in

What if something different happened 1935 Roosevelt started our new Social on April 15th this year? What if, for once, Security program promising that it would you didn’t have to pay taxes on that day? take only 2% of our income. But here we None! are today, 15% deeper in. What if instead it became the day you I’m not fond of big government or stand before someone bigger than the quarterly checks to the IRS any more than IRS? What if it you are, but I can say “What if something different were the day you that I still enjoy the immense privileges happened on April 15th this die and stand of being in this year? What if, for once, you before God? Paying taxes country. The truth didn’t have to pay taxes on won’t seem like is, most people in that day?” such an unbearable America fare much burden on that day. In fact, you might be better than their forebears, and in a country happy to give everything you have, and that is still free and full of opportunity. We then some, just to return to your tax forms shouldn’t complain, even while we try to and calculator. Everything you owe God bring down the taxes to a more reasonable would come due in one moment. But, if level. Until that happens, however, April you have not settled accounts through 15th remains the worst day of the year.

Christ beforehand, it will be too late no matter what you offer. As Jesus said: What will a man give in exchange for his soul? The tax on living a sinful life before a holy God is eternity in hell. And it is a just tax, if ever there was one. It may seem like too much to you, but that is only because you have a low view of God and His standards. You have been good by comparison, you think. But you are comparing yourself to others like yourself, not to God. On the other hand, that day could be much better than all other days you have ever known—if your tax on life were paid by another. Christ came to do that, that

INSPIRATION Deeper Still by Christy Boals www.gracefilledpurpose.com I want to get the most out of this difficult experience. To suck the marrow out. Go past the surface, past the heart of the matter, even to where the life blood is created. For that is what I need, a transfusion. The only way to change, Jesus' blood for mine. Oh God, don’t let me miss it, the change You are doing in me. Don't let me heal over too quickly, leaving something ugly and festering underneath. Down to the marrow, the root of my pain. There is pain there, but also strength. The marrow of a bone holds all the nourishment. God, are you going to nourish me in my pain? Only You could do something like that, taking darkness and creating light out of it. Can I be brave enough to ask You to take me all the way down, down to the scariest places of my soul? To take me to a place of real healing. I don't know what's in there, but You do God. You know the anemia my faulty marrow has created in my life. Me living a thin existence when all the while Jesus is waiting, holding out the rich cup of His blood of the covenant He made with me.

Can I reach out with a shaky hand, take and drink? “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me.’ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.” I Corinthians 11:23-26

Johh the Baptist and Jesus were actually second cousins. Mary (Jesus' mom) and Elizabeth (John's mom) were cousins, as indicated in Luke 1.

Looking Beyond by April James www.BeyondTheSilverCoin.org I had a dream last night in which I was telling a neighbor’s daughter, who was helping her mom clear the abandoned garden, that I liked dead veggies. After a while of laboring she asked if I really liked dead veggies, she was thinking it would reduce her work if able to give me the seemingly worthless vegetables. Some toss aside a cabbage or head of lettuce when they see wilted leaves, yet when the outer layers are removed exposing the inner leaves there is good to be found, there is still value in what outwardly seemed worthless. Isn’t that what the Lord does with us? He looks beyond the outside appearance to what is inside. Consider the sons of Jesse, one would be anointed king. Samuel kept looking at the outside, but God looking inside rejected each until the one son, who was not even considered by his family, or even called in from the field, was brought before him, that was the one God chose. Inside the boy was a man of strength and courage who killed a lion and a bear, who would one day kill a giant who dared to defy the God of Israel; a shepherd boy who would be a man after God’s own heart. When we see others, are we looking at the outward person measuring them to our expected norms, acceptable appearance, mannerisms, and contribution to society? What about the person on the street

corner holding a sign asking for money? Do we see a panhandler, a lazy person, an irresponsible deadbeat, or perhaps an unkempt drug addict? Do we take the time to stop and hear their story or just brush them off, or look away not even acknowledging their presence? A few years back I was in Sacramento for meetings rushing from the parking garage to my location several blocks away. There was a man who looked like he had not bathed or washed his clothes in some time and appeared to be sleeping on the sidewalk next to the building. I gave a weak smile, a little nod and faint hello never slowing my pace, but his words “thank you for acknowledging me”, nearly stopped me in my tracks, they struck a nerve; is that not what we all at the core want, to be recognized? Our existence acknowledged in some small way; a kind

by Paula McBride On a bench at the bus stop, a skeptic and a seeker were seated side by side. Across the street rose a magnificent church proudly displaying a colorful vinyl banner advertising the upcoming Resurrection Sunday services. “What do you think of that?” Seeker asked Skeptic, pointing at the banner. “Just a myth. Took the kids for the egg hunts when they were little. Not much into it now,” Skeptic answered. “I felt the same till a while ago,” Seeker replied. “My wife has bought into it. She says she became a Christian. I’m trying to talk her out of her latest phase, but she seems really different.” “What would you say to try to talk her out of it?” Skeptic asked. “Oh, like that,” Seeker said, motioning to the church’s banner. “If I could disprove the resurrection, I could blow up her whole new belief system” “That’s wild! Skeptic exclaimed. “What do you have so far?” “Not much,” Seeker groaned. “You don’t even have to believe the Bible account is inspired by God. Evidence outside the Bible is so strong even critical scholars and historians of all stripes accept what they call “The Three Truths.” “What are the three truths?” Skeptic questioned, raising his eyebrows.

“First, that the tomb in which Jesus was buried was discovered empty by a group of women on the Sunday following the crucifixion.” “Aw, we know that his disciples carried the body away, or else he swooned and came back alive again,” Skeptic mocked. “That’s what I though, too,” Seeker remarked. “But why would the disciples later give their lives for what they knew was a hoax? Or why would writers include testimony of women who had so little status in those days? Jesus couldn’t have swooned. He was nearly dead even before the crucifixion, and the spear thrust

INSPIRATION

would have finished him off.” And, who would have rolled the stone away?” “Yeah, I guess I remember the part about the guards being paid off to keep quiet about losing the body,” Skeptic added. “What’s the second truth?” “It’s that Jesus’ disciples had real physical experiences with one they believed was the risen Christ. It’s hard to argue this one because of the testimony of the original disciples themselves.” “What do you think about that one?” Skeptic asked. “Well, either they were lying, hallucinating, or they really did see

him,” Seeker said. “But they didn’t have reason to lie, especially since they were later persecuted for their belief. Group hallucinations have been disproved, so that leaves the last one. They could have really seen him.” “So, what’s the last truth?” Skeptic asked. “Oh, the disciples preached the resurrection of Christ as the center of their faith system and the Christian church was established and grew. And there’s evidence of that right there,” Seeker said, pointing to the church. “Yeah, and you’ve given me lots to think about. I may try going to that church to check things out for myself,” Skeptic commented thoughtfully. “And I may quit badgering my wife and go to church with her. The resurrection really happened, so everything she believes true. She’s going to be so excited! Hey, I think I’m excited!” Seeker exclaimed. “Me, too!” Skeptic chimed in. “Thanks for the good talk, man!” As the bus pulled up to the stop, the men high-fived each other and began walking toward new life in Christ, a life possible because Jesus died for our sins and rose in victory. And because He lives, we too, will live forever.

Preschoolers Sing ‘Jesus Loves Me’ As Tornado Rips Off Roof… And Everyone Survives Michael Foust Contributor ChristianHeadlines.com A preschool director in Kentucky helped calm her students during a tornado by leading them in “Jesus Loves Me” and “He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.” The twister ripped the roof off the building, but everyone survived. Michelle Rushing, the director of Mt. Zion Baptist Day Care in McCracken County, told the West Kentucky Star that after she learned of a tornado warning on March 14 at 9:10 a.m., she immediately moved her 40 students to a safer area. She could hear the tornado destroying the church’s building. She led the children in songs like “Jesus Loves Me” and “He's Got the Whole World in His Hands,” according to the West Kentucky Star. McCracken County Sheriff Matt Carter credited God for the preschoolers’ survival. “The almighty hand of God has provided safety to our community,” Carter told the West Kentucky Star. “The destruction path is approximately five miles long. There are approximately three homes that are devastated but no injuries, and also there is approximately a half dozen other homes that have sustained

minor to moderate damage. “This could have been an extremely high fatality rate,” Carter added, “and we’re very fortunate and blessed to only report one minor injury.” Wes Conner, senior pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, said the congregation will recover. “Church is not a building, church is the people,” he told Nashville’s Fox 17. “Buildings can be rebuilt, and frankly God is going to get us through this. God is going to give us great vision for the future. We as a church family -- we are going to rally together.”

Reading (last month’s cover story) in the Ambassador on the hand of God watching over Kelly Johnson during his adventure with Ellis Lake reminding me of a similar personal event. Living in a small town of about 9,000 people in Northwestern Washington, I experienced the life threatening incident of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). This is different from a Heart Attack, which generally has warning signs such as difficulty in breathing, tightness in the chest and pain radiating down the left arm. SCA offers no warning at all. It is like turning off the light switch on the kitchen wall. The electrical system in our heart just turns off. As result, my heart stopped for 18 minutes. 95% of SCA are fatal;

Those whose survive frequently suffer brain damage, fall into a vegetative state and are susceptible to strokes.. 356,000 SCA's occur in the U.S every year. Had it not been for the quick action of the owner of the coffee shop applying CPR, the speed of the local policeman's response taking over for him and the EMT's taking over for him, I would not be here .I was in the hospital for 6 days without knowing anything about what had happened. Everything was blank. ( on a side note, there was no white light) . This is my 10 year anniversary of the event and the 10th year of God's miracle for my life. My gratitude can never be adequately expressed with words. But I know in my heart and soul that God gave me back my heart and my life. To God be the Glory..

COMMUNITY CBA MARKETPLACE MONTHLY Please Join Us! You Won’t be Disappointed

I was out and about earlier this week and ran into a faithful member and regular attendee of the Christian Business Alliance. After a quick hello, I mentioned how good the last CBA meeting was and without hesitation, he said, “it was incredible!” This should lead you (the reader) to ask, so why was it incredible? Glad you asked. We met at the Twin Rivers Crisis Center in Yuba City. This facility operated for years as a Teen Challenge in-house drug and alcohol recovery program (not just serving teens – more explained further about this organization below*). They shut their doors in early 2018 and are currently working to reopen very soon. We met there with over 30 CBA members along with the director, staff members, along with some successful graduates. We heard several incredible testimonies of God using this program to rescue women trapped in meth and opiate addiction, abusive relationships, homelessness and ultimately hopelessness. Each of the stories we heard brought tears to eyes and reminded

us the power of God’s restoration for those who surrender their lives to Him. That my friends is why the meeting was incredible. The CBA meets every Tuesday at noon at different locations throughout the Yuba Sutter region to hear testimonies, to pray, and to learn about different ministries and to encourage and love one another. And it is a safe place to bring friends, family members and coworkers that need a loving introduction to the person of Jesus Christ. Please contact Seth Halpern, the publisher of the Ambassador Christian Newspaper and vice president of the Christian Business Alliance to be included in the weekly email invitations to our meetings. *Adult & Teen Challenge USA has operated on a holistic model of drug and alcohol recovery. This means that we are concerned with the body, mind, and spirit of those who come to our addiction recovery centers. Our vision is to see all people freed from addiction through the power of Jesus Christ!

David Kugelman is the president of the Christian Business Alliance which meets each Tuesday at noon at various locations. Dave welcomes your questions or comments on this article at drkug@comcast.net

FROM THE ARCHIVES The Ultimate Bailout

by Seth Halpern (originally published April 2009)

Automakers. Banks. Mortgage companies. Home owners. It seems that everyone is getting some sort of “bailout” these days. This leads many to wonder “Where’s MY bailout?” After all, most of us have worked hard, possibly raising a family and living paycheck to paycheck. So why are those billion-dollar companies getting what I deserve? I’ve been doing things by the book and yet the ones doing the shady deals seem to be the ones getting helped by our government. That’s Not Fair!! Well, in an age where lawsuits and settlements rule the day, we have become a society feasting on entitlements. We have recently elected a president based on his promises to help the working people and provide for their needs. We have also raised a generation of “entitlers”, demanding all the privileges of a blessed American way of life, but with none of the responsibility. There was a day when freedom, independence and success came as a result of hard work, diligence and perseverance. What used to be considered privileges are now “rights”. Parental authority is mocked and our children have the upper hand with a

phone call to “the authorities”. I thought parents WERE the authority. We have, as a culture, nurtured a new way of life and expectations. Our forefathers spoke of our inalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Remember, it is the “pursuit” of happiness. We are NOT guaranteed the RIGHT to Happiness, but we have the right to pursue it. If success in business does not come, if our health fails us, if relationships end bitterly, at least we have had the opportunity to try. As adults, we are not owed anything by anyone, especially by the government. Neither our government, nor any other institution or anyone else owes us happiness or contentment. In fact, to be truthful, it is impossible for anyone to offer it even if they were well intended. The reality is that no one whether individual or institution can bail us out of our situation, EXCEPT for One. That One is Jesus Christ who took the brunt of our pain, misery and failure and exchanged it for blessing. Still, we are not entitled to it. Yet, through His tremendous love and mercy, He has given us what we don’t deserve, just wanting

Gifts of Love takes place in Linda on the fourth Saturday of every month. It is an outreach which provides food and clothing for people in need. The vision for this ministry was given to Alisha Brown, a student at New Life Assembly, just over a year ago and has been changing lives since its start. Alisha shares, ”Gifts of Love means serving those who need it most, loving those who aren't shown it and offering a smile to those who are treated like trash. Most importantly, it is showing the love of Christ through our actions, words, and service. Christ paid it all for us because He loves us, so we now get to share the same love.” Gifts of Love does not just feed and clothe those in need, it also provides an opportunity for the volunteers to show God’s love. It’s a place where people can come for prayer, encouragement, and acceptance. Many people have received Christ because of this ministry and many more have been given hope. However, it is not only the needy who gain something from Gifts of Love. The outreach also impacts the volunteers. Most of the volunteers are high school students who attend either the New Life

thoughts about the ministry. Samuel Vasquez, a student volunteer from New Life says, “Gifts of Love means a lot to me. Just seeing those people smile gives me a sense of life that you can’t see anywhere else. Being out there, it feels like we are alive and really living. We are giving others hope and at the same time experiencing God’s love and learning more and more about ourselves. I have learned that being selfless is the most important quality of a Christian.” Brandon Palmares, a student volunteer from Relentless Rescue says, “ To me,

Gifts of Love means hope and it means that no matter the person there are people who care. I learned humility from it. I personally never thought much of the homeless. I thought they were all drug addicts. Now I know that they are people too, and I see God guiding us to them.” For over a year, hearts have been touched, eyes opened, stomachs filled, bodies clothed and most importantly souls won. All this came from one student acting on the call of God and a leadership team supporting that call. God works in amazing ways when servants obey.

LIFE

LIFE MATTERS presented by Yuba-Sutter Right To Life by Bradley Mattes It was one of the most dramatic conflicts over right and wrong in the history of the pro-life movement. The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act would have protected babies who survive lateterm abortion. President Trump tweeted, “This will be remembered as one of the most shocking votes in the history of Congress.” It was beyond heartbreaking to see such evil prevail in the minds and hearts of 44 US Senators who voted against protecting the babies. Every Senate Democrat running for president included, and the result has left a devastating mark on the pages of our nation’s history. This vote followed states that legalized abortion until birth and green-lighted infanticide for the survivors. As a result, many pro-lifers may have become discouraged. They shouldn’t. Behind this legislative turmoil is actually a reason to be optimistic. The dark forces advocating abortion on demand see that their grasp on our nation is slipping, and aren’t about to go down without a herculean fight. That fight is now intensifying. The cause for LIFE has made remarkable advancements during the last

couple of years. Primarily with the nomination and confirmation of two US Supreme Court justices, which have likely put Roe v Wade on borrowed time. Don’t forget the many district and appellate court judges being confirmed. Public Opinion is Turning The recent debate on late-term abortion and infanticide has opened the eyes of countless Americans to the extreme agenda of pro-abortion activists and the abortion industry. Even millions spent on public pro-life education wouldn’t have reached as many people. This debate has the focus of the

President Doing His Part The President continues to rack up victories for the babies. Recently, his administration issued the final version of the Protect Life Rule which draws a vivid line between family planning and the abortion industry. Planned Parenthood stands to lose up to 60-million dollars of Title X funding which has served as their personal slush fund to promote an extreme abortion agenda. States Joining In State legislatures and governors are not sitting on the sidelines. Here’s just a recent sample. Arkansas passed a law to end abortion when Roe is overturned. In the meantime, the House has passed a bill to end abortion after 18 weeks. Arizona defeated an attempt to legalize infanticide. After the debate, pro-abortion legislators had serious regrets because it has put them at risk for reelection. The Utah House Judiciary Committee passed a bill to end abortion after 18 weeks. The Kentucky House passed legislation to end abortion once Roe is overturned. And a legislative committee passed

President of the United States, Congress and state legislatures. The buzz on social media has lasted for weeks and continues. And it’s showing in the polls. The day of the Senate’s vote, a Marist poll revealed a dramatic change in those who self-identify as “pro-life” or “prochoice.” Just weeks ago, their polling showed both camps with 47%. Further, their tracking on abortion has remained fairly stable over the years. That all changed with their latest poll that indicated a 17-point gap favoring “pro-life”! And what’s more, Democrats and people under 45 are the catalyst for this change.

--- The Pain of Rejection --by Carol Round Assistnews.net Rejection hurts. We’ve all experienced it. Whether large or small, rejection can create an emotional wound affecting us for the rest of our lives, if we allow it. “But first the Son of Man must suffer terribly and be rejected by this generation”—Luke 17:25 (NLT). Opening the email from a magazine, my heart raced. Had my devotional been accepted for publication? I was feeling confident until I read their rejection. After reading the form letter, including a long list of possible reasons my submission had been rejected, I sighed. Rereading the email, I frowned as I questioned their responses. The letter included 13 reasons why my meditation might have been rejected; however, only three examples were cited in their general guidelines of acceptance. Why had my writing been rejected? I knew my writing inspired because of reader responses received during my 14plus years of writing for publication. I reread my submission. Then, I returned to the email and studied the magazine’s possible reasons for rejecting my submission. To my surprise, the pain of rejection lessened. I now understood why. I’ve decided, however, to submit another

entry in the future. Rejection Hurts Yes, rejection hurts. We’ve all experienced it. Whether large or small, rejection can create an emotional wound affecting us for the rest of our lives, if we allow it. For years, I carried the wounds of being cast into a stereotype. As a child, I was what people today would call a nerd. I wore glasses with soda-bottlethick lenses, and I always had my nose in a library book. I wasn’t athletic or especially talented at anything the world seemed to value. While I had friends, none of us were part of the “in” crowd. I carried the invisible scars for over four decades, until I met the One who loves and accepts me just as I am. I’d accepted

Jesus as my Savior when I was a teenager, but I’d never allowed Him to be the Lord of my life. In my attempts to “fit in,” I’d said and done things during my 40 plus years that left me ashamed and feeling unworthy. But that changed at age 47 when I reached out to Christ. He didn’t reject me. Instead, His amazing grace brought healing and a new beginning. Jesus Understands Rejection If anyone understands the pain of rejection, it’s Jesus. He was even rejected by those in His hometown of Nazareth. Can you imagine returning where you grew up and being rejected in the house of worship where you spent many Saturdays as a kid? After Jesus stands to read a famous

Messianic passage from the Prophet Isaiah, the Jewish leaders are astonished when He identifies Himself as the One spoken of by Isaiah. In Matthew 13:54-58 we read, “And coming to his hometown He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, ‘Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?’ And they took offense at him. “But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.’ And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.” The Ultimate Rejection Even though He’d prophesized it, the ultimate rejection for Jesus came from His disciples, the ones He’d chosen to follow Him. Even the Apostle Peter denied knowing Him three times. People today still reject Jesus. But that doesn’t stop His pursuit of us. Out of His great love for mankind, Jesus suffered a bloody, painful, degrading death on the cross. He loves us that much.

What Should God Do? by Greg Koukl www.str.org When some tragedy strikes, people ask "Where was God?" I ask "What precisely did you expect God to do? If you were in His place, what would you do?" If you would use your power to stop evil, would you punish it or prevent it? Either choice presents you with problems. One reason God doesn't wipe out all evil immediately is that the alternative would be worse. This becomes evident by asking a simple question: If God heard your prayer to eliminate evil and destroyed it all at midnight tonight, where would you be at 12:01? The discomfiting reality is that evil deeds can never be isolated from the evil doer. Our prints are on the smoking gun.

Each one of us is guilty in some capacity, and we know it. That's the problem. Any judicial action God would take today would pin us all under the gavel. When God wipes out evil, He's going to do a complete job. C. S. Lewis soberly observed, "I wonder whether people who ask God to interfere openly and directly in our world quite realize what it will be like when He does....When the author walks on the stage the play is over." No, God hasn't banished evil from His kingdom--yet. The Bible describes a time when God will wipe away every tear and repair the effects of evil on the world. Men will no longer endure the ravages of wickedness or be victimized by evil seemingly out of control. And no one will

ever ask the question, "Where was God?" Until then, God has chosen a different strategy, a better plan, one that's moral on a higher level. It's a plan that ultimately deals with evil, but allows room for mercy as well. It's called forgiveness. And that’s what God is doing.

Gideons Pastor’s Appreciation Banquet “Great! Loved it. Thanks for inviting us” “Very blessed by tonight’s pastor’s appreciation dinner.” “Loved the testimony” “Wonderful evening, thank you.” These are some of the comments from pastors in Yuba-Sutter who came to the annual Pastor’s Appreciation Banquet. The local Gideons count it a privilege to honor our local pastors and their wives by giving them a delightful evening of fellowship, dinner, sharing, good music and good information about how God is using the distribution of His Word. It is usually held in the month of April, and this year is no exception. The Gideon ministry considers the local churches to be their partner, both financially and with prayer support. We really could not exist without the support of pastors and their churches. Gideon membership also comes from these churches.

This year the Pastor’s Dinner is being held On Monday, April 29 at 6:30 PM The Plaza Room - 210 Julie Drive, Yuba City We encourage pastors to bring another couple from their church with them as our guests. Look for more information and a response card in the mail.

Con't From Page 1: "Taxes and the day..." is, He came to pay the just penalty for the sins of people like you and me so that we could stand forgiven and righteous before God in Christ. I don’t want to be nagging about this, but you have already waited nearly too long to get this taken care of. The day is approaching. If you do not act in time, the day of your death, or perhaps of Christ’s coming, could arrive while you are still procrastinating. And this time you cannot file an extension.

Your sin burden is far more serious than your tax burden. I am warning you not because I enjoy it, but because you have to act immediately. “Now is the day of salvation” said Paul (2 Corinthians 6:2). You may work half your year to cover all your taxes in this country, but in hell it takes much longer—forever. It is appointed for men to die once, and after this comes judgment. Hebrews 9:27 www.ccwtoday.org

Con't From Page 4: "Looking Beyond" word or look that says we matter. I think of the lepers, tax collectors, harlots, and other non-acceptable people in society, that Jesus had no qualms speaking with or even touching. He took the time to look beyond the exterior that caused others to pass by on the other side of the road, and

underneath He found there was something of value; He found you and me. Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10, He ends it saying, “Go and do likewise”. Let’s peal some leaves and look beyond for the good…

Con't From Page 8: "...Turmoil Means... " protection against discrimination for unborn babies with Down syndrome. A Tennessee subcommittee okayed a bill to protect unborn babies once their heartbeat can be detected. Representative Micah Van Huss voiced the heart of many legislators across America, “One of our primary responsibilities as government is to keep our citizens safe. And the killing of our citizens needs to stop.” These pro-life bills would add to hundreds of others enacted over recent years. LIFE is winning! So, shake off these grave disappointments and keep your eyes on the goal. You and I are working to save babies from the unspeakable horror of abortion and infanticide. They

depend upon our continued passion and determination to protect them from the abortion industry. When we do, we’ll see more scenes like this in America. just the pursuit of) Happiness, a happiness (some would say joy) that goes deeper than any external, momentary happiness this world could offer. The empty tomb is the sign that His resurrection has offered us the Ultimate Bailout!

If you would like to experience the peace and transformed life that God can provide through Jesus Christ and you are willing to commit your life to the only one who can truly set you free from your sin, you can pray to the Lord right now and ask Him to forgive you of your sins. Because of what His Son, Jesus, did by dying on the cross, your sins will not be held against you by God anymore. You can experience freedom for the rest of your life on earth and then have a life in Heaven with God for eternity. God’s part of the deal is already done. Your part is to confess your sins, repent (or change your ways) and believe that He is Lord. If your life is out of control, let Him take over control. Psalm 103:12 says, “As far as east is from west—that’s how far God has removed our sin from us.” That’s not rejection. That’s redemption. I always love hearing from my readers. Please feel free to e-mail me at carol@

A POPEYE MOMENT by Jon Skillman (Writer’s note). I know some of this material appeared in last month’s article, but the gravity of this issue mandates reiteration). I think I have finally reached my Popeye moment. No, I’m not referring to the fast food chain, I’m talking about Popeye the sailor, Popeye the cartoon character. For those of you who might not remember, Popeye used to put up with a lot of injustice until he finally declared; “That’s all I can stands I can’t stands no more!” Grammar and double negative aside, you could say, in today’s vernacular, Popeye was “triggered” and “woke.” Well, when I learned of the new New York abortion law, I too had a “That’s all I can stands I can’t stands not more!” moment. I really don’t mean to make light of this horrific law but if I don’t… expletives will surely fly! So, in this new state of awoken-ness I pray this law and those yet to come, will be the catalyst that finally awakens the church…the whole church…a church which, for the most part, has remained silent while secular progressives, progressively lowered the bar on “legal” abortion. That’s how they operate, they simply chip, chip away at the rules until there aren’t any. Now, in the state of New York, there are, in effect, no rules governing abortion. The battle over a woman’s right to choose has regressed from within the womb into

the nursery. That’s right, it is now the right of a woman to have her newborn child killed if it survived a late term or partial birth abortion! The thought of this should sicken every human being but, somehow…it doesn’t. This is how progressives, “progress.” What’s next? The inconvenience of having a terrible twos toddler? Or maybe senior citizens beyond the age of ___ (don’t worry, progressives will progressively fill in that blank) are declared an inconvenience and/or a burden on society? We are at a very dangerous point in our nation’s moral history. Are we going to remain silent, or are we going to rise up as one and be heard? We are the body of Christ, we must start acting like it and look beyond our denominational differences, our doctrinal conflicts and shout out in a united powerful voice: “That’s all we can stands, we can’t stands no more!” And then do something. Start by Praying for an awakening, a revival in this land. Pastors, start speaking out, churches, start reaching out and Christians start crying out to our government representatives. We must stop this madness. Isaiah: 49:15 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion for the child she has borne?” Evidently they can in New York!

Church Bells The church bells ring, The ushers seat The choir sings The preacher points. The people smile They kneel and stand, But do any really understand? The organ echoes The latecomers come. The plate is passed The children doze. The old in front The young in the rear, But do any really care?

Is Christ in their lives Each day of the week? Is His promise on their lips Is it Him whom they seek? For they seek not the King Who gave them their life. But grasp on to His gifts’ And repay with a knife. They seek not His humility But delight in their pride. When the once-bloody King returns, They’ll plead from outside.
