The Winston Perez-Ventura Homecoming Classic 2023

Winston Perez-Ventura Winston Perez-Ventura, DPHHS Class of 2017, passed away tragically in the summer of 2017. Words cannot capture the impressive nature of Winston’s personality and character. He was an optimistic, determined, and passionate young man who brought an attitude of extraordinary joy to each day. Whether playing his heart out on the soccer and baseball fields, studying architecture, or simply supporting his family and friends, he brought persistent energy and boundless passion to all of his endeavors. From the start of his time at DPHHS, he made clear his goal of studying architecture at Cornell University.

His hard work and optimism allowed him to achieve this goal in the fall of his senior year. Winston will always be remembered for his excellent character and for the immensely positive impact he had on those fortunate enough to have known him.

The Microgrant Fund To honor Winston’s memory, in 2017, we established the Winston PerezVentura Microgrant Fund. Donations to this fund support our alumni, who work so hard each day towards earning their college diplomas.

In addition, each year, the Bronx Prep/Democracy Prep homecoming basketball game is dedicated to Winston. The money raised by ticket sales go toward providing microgrants to Democracy Prep alumni. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Winston’s family, and we appreciate your support in our efforts to honor his legacy.

Looking Forward We would like to raise as much money as possible so that we can award microgrants to multiple scholars. We are hoping that in the coming years, we can move the game into a larger venue to attract more fans.

As long as the game is played with pride and passion we are keeping the memory of Winston alive!
