Hello!

My name is Aman, I am a final year undergraduate seeking for an architectural internship to follow my passion for architecture and design. For me, architecture is a medium for interpreting technology, traditions, culture and other social aspects and beliefs. I believe that architecture and design have a significant role to play in the growth and enrichment of social and psychological factors. Programming and designing spaces considering the impression they make, from the initial stages is a simple step that makes any design stand out. My love for travel has exposed me to varied perspectives, alongside developing my critical thinking and problem solving skills. I strive to add greater value to my work through my hard work and inquisitive nature. I aspire to travel the world and enrich myself through experiences and explorations.

AN EDUCATIONAL HUB & HERITAGE INTERPRETATION CENTRE ARCHITECTURE THESIS PROJECT 2021-22 LOCATION : UDAYAGIRI, ODISHA IND.

Adhigam intends to give a psychological experience to various educational activities to anyone who visits the complex. Its aim is to propogate the traditional Indian education system, catering to enrolled students in the institute, visitors and local community through its Interpretation centre and a Knowledge centre. The campus draws inspiration from ancient Indian universities like Nalanda and Pushpagiri, and creates an environment well suited for learning. Creating a convergence of tourism and learning was a challenge to be solved, and the Brahmani river acts as a perfect backdrop for unifying all these activities.

PRECEPTS IN BUDDHISM MAHAVIHARAS SENSES ELEMENTS OF NATURE

The zones are the composite outcome of grid layouts (rule of thirds, Fibonacci and structural), Vastu concepts and functional programming. Climate analysis and topography also helped to determine block placement. A user-friendly design, minimising the external disturbances and segregation of quiet zones with direct proximity was a challenging task for the site.

The water channels inspired from moats of Angkorwat are designed to flow with the water current of the river. These channels serves as a flood safety element and as a silent means of site interpretaion for tourists. SITE ANALYSIS

ACADEMIC BLOCK PLAN

1

9

The open planning of academic blocks was an outcome of various stages of planning and assessment of volumes, supporting areas, green and social spaces. The layout efficiently put together streams providing connections and common areas. The open planning allowed natural light and air flow to every corner of the building. Design elements like semi-open columnated corridors, green terraces, social courtyards and skywalks make the space more breathable.

CONCEPTUAL MODELS

A boat station at -1500 level to start and conclude the excursion.

Panoramic view of the complex is visible through the amphitheatre.

Picturesque view of knowledge centre sailing over its reflection.

A halt spot as the river front food-court gives a moment to relax.

The vista of academic blocks and floating gallery to experience the learning environment.

The meditation centre with the monument unfolds further.

Channel merges with the river and provides a 300m river sail before turning back in to the site.

Passing underneath the glass floor of the Heritage Interpretation Centre creates curiosity and drama.

BOATING ROUTE MAP

The monument is inspired from two inverted prisms which converge the path of scattered light into a unidirectional beam. The two prisms are the representation of traditional and modern educational approach.

This monumental structure is a focal point of the site as its meditation centre. It can be accessed by the whole community.

ADHIGAM MONUMENT

In psychological terms the inverted prisms signifies the unsettled state of mind and heart, re-focused by the means of meditation resulting a better concentration and enhanced physical and mental efficiency.

ROVANIEMI MULTI-SPECIALITY HOSPITAL ACADEMIC PROJECT SEMESTER IX LOCATION: ROVANIEMI, FINLAND

Project is a 205 bedded hospital in the beautiful city of Rovaniemi, Finland. The design influence for the project was derived from 3,500 years old YIN-YANG philosophy in Chinese culture, which symbolises cosmic duality of the universe and explains the cycle of life and death. The building not only aims to accomodate all facilities of a general hospital but also providing a healthy and user friendly environment. Design intention was to consider all the stakeholders and create a space of interest unlike typical hospital.

COURTYARD VISUALIZATION

PEN WORK

Predesign assessment for concept formulation. The contoured site is set in a cold climate amid coniferous forest, 500 meters away from Rovaniemi city centre. The site abuts access road to its east. Considering the cold climate, the building functions have been planned in a single structure, with naturally heated and naturally lit spaces, rooms overlooking the central courtyard and the forest. The orientation of the tower is such that it recieves solar gain from east, south and west direction.

TRIANGULUM AUDITORIUM

ACADEMIC PROJECT SEMESTER VI LOCATION : FORTE TREPORTI VENICE, ITALY

This project is a 1340 seater auditorium, in a heritage rich site of Fort Treporti in the floating city of Venice. The green site is a part of an abandant fort complex with some ruins around it. The fort was built by Austrians in mid 18th century and has historic significance from World War I. The design style of Auditorium is mixed-contemporary to stand in contrast and upholds the context of Venetian style, in the same time the structure complements the surroundings with triangulated facade and sense of pointed arches reflecting Venetian and Spanish style.

The intermittent frames of an event amplifies its sensation and generates curiosity towards the outcome. The building form is inspired from this idea and its seems to be unfolding with the surrounding with respect to every single point of approach.

SITE

Forte Treporti

Volume respects and complements the surrounding context and make an identity possession simultaneously.

The reflection on the water and caustics makes the building appear alive and more dynamic. The parametric facade represents an interesting play with light and shadow and appears beautifully varying with time.

Origamy creases were the form inspiration for the project.

ESPLANADE BUS TERMINAL TRANSIT HUB DESIGN

&

ANNUAL NASA DESIGN COMPETITION 2020-21 SITE LOCATION: KOLKATA, IND TEAM ENTRY

The competition envisions the post pandemic reality on mobility spaces and presents a solution for the similar pandemic situations as covid-19 and adapts to the post pandemic reality. The selected site in Kolkata, WB is an old transit hub connecting various means of transport like Intercity and Interstate buses, Tram, two different metro routes and feeder services.

SCENARIO ANALYSIS

Traffic congestion, overcrowded junction & vehicle emissions is a nightmare.

Being an important interchange with all the commercial, residential & business areas around the expanse is overcrowded with people over a lakh at peak hour.

Despite being the most important hub for interchange, intermodal connectivity has not been established without adding to the chaos. DESIGN INTERVENTIONS

INTRACITY TERMINUS BUS BAYS & CONCOURSE Separation of passengers as well as vehicles into various levels to ensure efficient circulation of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Provisions of all basic amenities and services in the concourse to enhance passenger experience. Connecting the bus terminus to the metro station allows ease of circulation. OTS COURTYARD IN INTERCITY CONCOURSE FOR NATURAL LIGHT & VENTILLATION Spaces under flyovers will be retrofitted with greenery, softscape and public seating areas to purify air, and create an urban green space. Use of porous terracotta cladding improves passive ventilation and establishes a visual connection with the vernacular architecture of the region.

On an 11 acres site the new Esplanade terminus will serve with 20 bays for intracity buses & 101 intercity bus bays with 33 arrivals & 65 departure bays.

DESIGN INTERVENTIONS

INERCITY TERMINUS BUS PLATFORMS & CONCOURSE Segregated areas for intercity and intracity buses, separate arrival and departure halls, and segregation of amenities and services in various levels lowers crowd density within the bus terminus. Multiple entrances and exits to and from the terminus also ensure crowd segregation.

Various facilities have been integrated along the public circulation and bypass connections are made to connect different parts of the complex for horizontal and vertical circulation. Ramps have been provided for the buses as well as passengers such that no path is intersected by the other. Design layout efficiently deals with the humid climate conditions and allows natural light and air flow throughout the complex.

PROVISIONS FOR PANDEMIC SITUATIONS
