Step 1: Coach reviews the plan for the Life-Skills Programme and reinforces that this is a Safe Space and that the coach is there to support the players at all times.

Step 2: Coach shares a football story highlighting how s/he became the coach of the team.

Step 3: Coach explains the Session Outcomes.

Step 4: Coach facilitates a team football story, during which the players share how they originally met and how the team was selected. The players then introduce themselves individually.

Before beginning any physical activity, coaches need to make sure that players have stretched 1 Ball per team

1. Create a 10m channel using cones.

2. The channel should have 2.5m x 2.5m ‘end zones’ marked by cones.

3. Each team will be assigned to one channel.

4. Teams should divide in half between ‘end zones’.

5. Players should form a line behind their ‘end zone’.

6. The first player in line steps into the ‘end zone’.

7. The ball starts with a player in one of the ‘end zones’.

Activity 1. The player with the ball will pass to his/her teammate standing in the opposite end zone.

2. After s/he passes, s/he will run around the channel to the end of the opposite line and the next player in line will step into the ‘end zone’.

3. The player receiving the ball must control the ball within the boundaries of his/her end zone with one or two touches.

4. After s/he has controlled the ball, s/he must complete a pass to the player standing in the opposite ‘end zone’.

5. The coach should make the drill a competition by requiring teams to keep track of how many successful passes they make with the first team to accomplish 20 successful passes being the winner.

Note: A successful pass includes a pass that reaches the ‘end zone’ and the receiving player must control the pass within the boundaries of the ‘end zone’.

SET-UP 1. Create a 20m x 20m area using four cones.

2. Create seven 1m gates using cones inside the area. Gates should be evenly spread throughout the area.

3. Divide players into two teams.

Activity

Coach can use this opportunity to highlight the importance of working effectively as a team unit in order to be successful in the activity. This can then be related to effective communication in life.

1. Two teams compete against each other for points.

2. To begin the activity, teams score points when a player successfully dribbles the ball through a gate.

3. The first team to score seven points wins the game.

4. Once a team has won a new game begins.

5. Teams score points by a player successfully passing the ball through a gate to a teammate and his/her teammate controlling the pass.

6. The first team to score seven points wins the game.

7. Continuing switching between awarding points for dribbling and passing through gates for the remainder of the time allocated for the activity.

What are the stories behind your names and/or nicknames and shares the story behind his/her name and/or nickname?

SET-UP 1. Create a 30m x 20m area using cones.

2. Create a 2m wide end zone off of the two end lines using cones.

3. Divide players into two teams.

GOAL MOMENT Coach can use this opportunity to highlight the importance of communicating well as a team.

END ZONE

Activity 1. Two teams compete against each other for points.

2. Points are scored when a player dribbles the ball into the end zone and stops it there.

3. The player must stop the ball under control in the end zone for the point to count.

4. The first team to score three points wins the game.

5. A new game begins after a team wins.

6. In the new game, teams score points when a player completes a pass with a teammate inside the end zone.

Cool down Players take a light jog around the field followed by a quick, light stretch.

7. For the point to count, the player receiving the ball cannot enter the end zone before the ball enters the end zone.

5. Post Game Review

Coach then facilitates a discussion about the importance of leadership and the role of the captain in the team.

Step 2: Coach shares

TAKE AWAY MESSAGE Take responsibility for your role in your team!

his/her personal story highlighting the influence of a captain/leader on his/ her life.

Step 3: Coach explains the importance of a strong team identity.

Step 4: Coach facilitates the selection of a team name.

FINAL TEAM TALK STEP 1: COACH cONCLUDES with the Take Away Message: Take responsibility for your role in your team!

STEP 2: COACH REMINDS that this is a Safe Space and that he/she is there to support the players at all times.
