S….. IS FOR SEPTEMBER AND STONUS!

Rolling in a different musical direction this month and introducing local hard Rock band, STONUS.

STONUS consists of five lovely young musicians from Nicosia who are charming, intelligent, passionate, and determined to follow their dreams and succeed! Whilst busy studying, some in Cyprus and some in London, their passion propels them in managing their time well and succeed in their quest and are becoming one of the leading stoner rock bands. What is STONER ROCK you may ask? It is a genre of music that was pioneered in the early 90’s and is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of metal and psychedelic rock. Their sound is a combination of stoner, psychedelic, desert, and alternative rock and has the power to pull you into their psychedelic world

of space rock laced with rhythm and alluring vibes. Their music displays an eclectic variety of psychedelic and grunge influenced metal and hard rock music. It has been described as replica of the early 70’s classic dark rock sound such as Black Sabbath’s early work, which is a beaming compliment for the young band, especially as Black Sabbath is one of the bands influences, as well as grunge music, including Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam. They have released two impressive EP’s: Supertrip in 2017 and Lunar Eclipse in 2018 and their debut album, Aphasia in 2020, and to add to their growing list of accomplishments, they have delivered high energy performances and shared the stage with top stoner band Nightstalker, Planet of Zeus, Elephant Tree and performed at several European festivals Embarking this month on a delayed, (due to the pandemic) European coheadline tour, PORTALS TO THE SUN, with German trio, Swan Valley Heights, the band are super excited and eager to share and promote their love of music around Europe as well as in their homeland. The quintet uses their music as a channel and desire to send the message to their listeners to be aware, AWAKE, (title of their song) and to love each other. With each release, the musicians have become more refined and sculptured, producing high energy rock with deep pounding bass, heavy tuned and strong raw electric guitar riffs, powerful drum bursts, polished with dark and deep melodic and meaningful vocals. All this combined, creates the signature sound of Stonus, as well as the comradery and flowing rapport between them which is visible on and off stage. The band are making a positive mark for themselves in the European stoner scene and have been labelled as one of the most active Cypriot heavy rock bands. Their hard work and relentless efforts are navigating them to becoming more popular in Europe and hopefully lead them to bigger continents. The tour kicks off on Saturday 3rd September at Savino Live in Larnaca and thereafter to London and Europe. If you are in the need for some music to wake up your senses, then highlight the date.
