CONCEP T In order to highlight their work, the photographs taken by the women are displayed as the main focus. In addition, research and articles written by the female marine biologists provide the audience with an outlet to learn more about marine life conservation efforts. The use of imagery and research provide an increased visual impact for the viewer; not only seeing the plight of marine life, but reading about its significant impact as well.

OB JECTIVE The purpose of this online gallery is to advance the UN Global Goal of life below water by highlighting the work of twelve women marine photographers and scientists. This journal aims to celebrate and recognize the efforts of the selected women, while also continuing to bring awareness to the importance of marine life conservation.

CONCEP T In order to highlight the Beyond Meat’s successful IPO, the annual report is designed in a newspaper format with the headline bringing this information to the forefront. Keeping in mind the importance of sustainability, the report is printed on recycled paper to communicate the company mission: Feeding a Better Future. The addition of graphs as well as the use of two colors creates a clear hierarchy and simplifies the information.

OB JECTIVE The redesign of Beyond Meat’s 2019 annual report aims to reflect the company’s efforts to create a more sustainable future as well as highlight its successful announcement of its IPO. Annual reports are known to be extremely long with minimal typographic hierarchy. This annual report brings the information to life, engaging the reader and offering hope and excitement for the future.

CONCEP T After conducting extensive research regarding palm oil consumption and deforestation as well as then identifying relevant audience members and stakeholders, I created the brand Ecolutions. In order to accomplish the brand mission: to educate and to provide resources to reduce palm oil demand, I designed a series of posters, an event, mobile app and YouTube channel. While providing people with opportunities to learn, the brand goes a step further with the development of an app that allows for shoppers to make more sustainable choices, discovering “better for the environment” alternatives to the products they currently purchase. Within the brand identity, imagery is used to grab audience member’s attention and create an emotional response.

CONCEP T In order to bring the imagery to the forefront, photographs of each country are featured all throughout the book. The surrounding information is condensed with a clear hierarchy, creating more white space within the spread to allow the reader a place for their eyes to rest. The added variation in layouts creates a more engaging experience to the viewer as well.

OB JECTIVE The redesign of The Travel Book aims to create a visual system that highlights the beautiful images, allowing the natural beauty of the countries to stand out, while also making the information easily accessible to the viewer. CONCEP T To improve the overall visual look and feel of the app, the illustrations are simplified to be more cohesive and a clear hierarchy of information is established, preventing the user from having to search for the important information. The addition of a bottom navigation bar allows users to easily move from different pages with a single tap. After receiving feedback from several target audience members, it became clear that a new feature was needed within the app. This aspect is designed to allow users to be able to select the caregiver of their choice, rather than being randomly assigned to one.

PROJECT 06 BUILDING FUTURE MINDS IN DESIGN
CONCEP T The Fifth SmashingConf San Francisco explores themes that include how to apply psychology to UX, design work-flow, refactoring, moving to a static site setup, CSS Grid techniques, performance, and deployment patterns for HTTP/2. Keeping these themes in mind, the conference materials plays off the idea of web design by using common mobile app icons as graphic elements. To make materials visually engaging, more information is revealed as the viewer takes a closer look.

OB JECTIVE Design the conference the materials for a selected design conference: Smashing Conference San Francisco. The final deliverables include a poster, direct mail piece, brochure, website, mobile app, and zoom background. Smashing Conference is a UX/UI conference, focusing on real-world problems and solutions. The conference is centered on front-end and UX, but it covers everything web related, including interface design and machine learning. It is hosted over two days with 14 speakers and numerous hands-on workshops.
