Since the 1920’s the area was being used as a runway for the Air France Company airmail. The intention was to preserve the neighborhood’s history, keeping the important historical elements and also transform an abandoned area in a facility which could be used for all. To that end, the main trails were arranged in the same positions of the old runways wich the planes used to land.

The project area of 320.000 m² included a green park with native trees and plants, Administration, Gym, Rehab and Swimming buildings, in addition to 5 sports fields for outside activities and trainning, as well as 4 covered sports courts.

Because the area has an important history, and classified as comunity and institutional zone, the buildings couldn’t overtake the high of six meters. Therefore the biggest challenge was the swimming pool facility,which as a solution it was “burried“ to respect such regulations.

As a standard for the buildings, all had a similar construction metohd, rainwater harvest, solar panels when possible, greenroof and approches to drecrease the ambiental impact caused during construction and use of the area.

As part of the final thesis project, these three buildings, the Administration, the Gym and the Rehabilitation Center were designed folowing a standard construction method, sustainable resources and historical details.

The metalic portals which highlights the entrance of the buildngs, it brings the memory of the old hangars used by Air France in 1920.

To reduce energy consume the facilites were projected with ample windows and mobile birses for natural light and also different roof hights for natual ventilation.

Since the buildings elevations couldn’t overtake 6 meters height, the area for meetings in the Administration building and the exercises area in the Rehab Center where projected one and a half meters under the ground level.

The project work’s objecive was to create guide lines for the construction and adaptation of sports buildings, with a focus on stadiums that host national and international competitions. The project takes place with research based on norms, practices, certifications and analysis of existing examples.

LEED

The most updated American LEED evaluation system is in version 4.1, which evaluates the impact in the 69 criteria divided among 11 categories: integrative thinking, energy, water, waste, materials, location and transport, sustainable site, health and human experience , innovation and global context | regional | local.

DGNB

The German system evaluates each project goes through the same planning, construction, operation, investment / storage / renovation and end of life phases. The project can be evaluated in a specific phase. There are 37 criteria divided into 6 groups: social / cultural, environmental, economic, techniques, processes and place (site), then they are divided between direct and indirect impacts.

BREAM

The English method includes 9 assessment categories: energy, health and well-being, innovation, land use, materials, management, pollution, transport, waste and water.

This strategy includes a series of principles and requirements that characterize an integrated approach to the design, construction, management, certification and assessment of environmental, social and cultural impacts during the life cycle of the built environment.
