COALESCE This is a co-work space in which my class was provided an existing building located at 110 S. College Ave. Fayetteville, Arkansas. As a preliminary study, we interviewed those who work in office spaces every day and evaluated their preferences in terms of comfort and layout. The project details included that we should each create our own program and incorporate our own personal goals and strategies within the design.

GOALS AND STRATEGIES: -Reflect the character of the exterior in the interior -Promote efficiency and effectiveness of people and activities -Enhance human comfort through physical and psychological aspects -Provide a clear direction in terms of spatial orientation

ALIGNED Aligned is a Live-Work space inside an existing row house building in downtown St. Louis, MO. The space provides a public gallery, a residential space above the gallery for the owners to live, and a roof terrace. The ground floor is for parking while the first floor is at street level and includes the main entrance.

DESIGN INTENTIONS: -Layout derived from overlapping grid systems -Use of orthogonal lines and diagonal lines -Gradual progression of scale throughout the space -Neutral color scheme with a light blue accent color to highlight colorful artwork -Clean and crisp materials that do not distract from artwork

KROGER TOTAL HEALTH The concept for this wellness center design has been created by integrating interior and exterior elements just as the human-made environment is sited in the natural environment. Integration is important when creating a welcoming and healthful space.

Design has great benefits when there are blurred lines between interior and exterior spaces. Research confirms that natural elements incorporated within an interior helps with stress, depression, and overall health.

GOALS AND STRATEGIES: -Simple circulation and easy to understand way-finding strategies -Materials that are cohesive, yet help one to distinguish the different spaces -Include colors that support the particular use of the designated area -Incorporate interactive stations in order to draw people in and feel welcomed

HAVEN HOTEL Haven Hotel is a hotel located in New Haven, Connecticut. Each person was assigned a different city in the United States but we all used the same building: Memphis,Tennessee’s historic Central Station. Prior to the design process, extensive research took place on the city including history, culture, main attractions, etc. Including studies of hotels in Chicago and Minneapolis. The overall design solution reflects the existing New Haven Green defined by the original formal structure that is then softened/modified by the passing of time and growth.

GOALS AND STRATEGIES: -Relates to the history of New Haven Connecticut -Large common areas that embrace natural light -Variety of scale in terms of pattern and repitition of details -Contrast in material palettes in the common areas vs. the private guestrooms

DESIGN BUILD BUS STOP BACKGROUND:

This studio was interdisciplinary with three interior and six architecture students led by Frank Jacobus. Our project was to design a bus stop shelter. We were in collaboration with Alternative Design, a nearby metal fabrication company, and Facilities Management at the University of Arkansas. To start, we each developed two bus stop shelter ideas so we ended up with 18 designs. Faculty, industry, and university representatives narrowed it down to the top seven designs. I was fortunate to have both of my two original designs in the top seven. Hog Wild and Fold + Frame

HOG WILD

In order to create a sculptural design that has a sense of place, a hog came to mind in order to relate to the University of Arkansas. Because the hog shape is not apparent from every view, the sculptural piece is inviting and will draw people in out of curiosity.

This design is similar to Hog Wild because it too originates from the principles of origami. The idea that parts are folded in order to create space. The structure is sculptural, but not a recognizable shape. Therefore it is intriguing in a unique way.

DESIGN BUILD BUS STOP COFFERED TEMPLE- COLLABORATIVE DESIGN After an extensive design development process and re-designing due to our budget, we considered many options and chose a design that used both wood and metal. As a group we collaborated on a CD set for the metal parts and sent them to Alternative Designs. We fabricated all of the wood parts and assembled the bus stop in the offcampus Fabrication Lab.

TRACING ITALY During the summer of 2016, Interior Design courses were offered in Rome, Italy at the University of Arkansas Rome Center. Traveling before-hand with family allowed for extended exploration of cities throughout Italy. While in Rome, I was enrolled in two classes- an Interior Design explorations class, and a drawing class. Both classes incorporated a variety of site visits in order to study design principles, history, structure, and interior spaces. We often discussed important features of buildings as a group and sketched aspects of the structures. Italy is a wonderfully historic country; therefore, the experience of studying abroad for 5 weeks broadened my horizons to different design techniques and lifestyles.
