NOISY QUIET
LOUNGE
Having the unusual pink palette as to give visitors an identifiable impression with its strong contrast to the surrounding environment. Mosaic walls together with travertine- and sandstone-made furniture add depth to the spatial experience, while alluding to its beach set ting. Windows welcoming the changing levels of natu ral light softens the harshness of the materials chosen.
With my love and respect to Santa Monica Proper Ho tel’s design by Kelly Wearstler, this project is designed as an expansion of the hotel. Site near Santa Monica State Beach, where classified as a Mediterranean cli mate, the lounge is devoted to creating an indoor space for relaxation whilst keeping in touch with the beach.
Inspired by seashell, the interior is carved into three parts: bar section, seating area and reading corner. Portraying the shape of a shell, the in ner the space, the quieter it becomes. The bend ed sandstone arch acts as a partition between “noisy” and tranquil area, unveiling the duality of the entrance (bar) and within (reading corner).
