Austin Fire and Community No.1-Fall 2020 Professor Claire Townley, Andrew Stone In collaboration with Marisol Garcia This project aims to combine the programs of community court and firehouse and transform it into a new building typology that is not viewed as simply a city building but as a service for the people of Austin with transparency in mind. Inspired by the historic 6th street, Austin Fire and Community serves as a grand entrance into 6th Street and the city of Austin as a whole. With such prime locality, expanding beyond the typical building functions was a core belief as the building, with the addition of learning rooms, help centers and a central multi-level public atrium becomes inviting to the public and serves as a hub for all who enter. Open views into the fire station apparatuses from both the exterior and interior emphasize the idea that this building was made by the public to serve the public with nothing to hide but rather express its services like the shiny red fire engines. Integrating the two different programs and creating a public invitation for the city was made possible by respecting the separate nature of the civic functions and finding a merging point where the two interact but do not interfere. This in turn allows for a harmonious balance of function and fun for those at work or there to relax and enjoy the new amenities of Austin Fire and Community No.1. 4

Texas School for the Deaf Residential and Educational Living -Spring 2019 Professor Simon Atkinson

In conjunction with the Texas School of the Deaf (TSD), the project aimed to create an intervention that would provide a bridge for the school to become further interconnected with the city of Austin and its residents, rather than further islolate the school. Ultimately, an addition than ran alongside South 1st Street was created in a manner which provided safe housing for students and faculty while adressing their academic needs with classrooms and labs. The intervention also adresses the city side edge condition of the site by opening up views from above and providing a walkway where residents and passerbys can come together. Finally, a multilevel greenspace was added to increase the quality of living while also providing an opportunity for those at TSD to learn of environmentalism and the environment in a safe, controlled region. The multilevel complex would provide educational labs at the lowest level at grade with the school, while the second and third levels would house the former students and staff with open spaces for gathering such as meeting rooms and living spaces as well as closed private areas in self dweling units and upper level gardens. 18

Waterside Gateway-Spring 2020 Professor John Blood Set in the historic Seaholm District, the project sets out to reinvigorate the existing and abandoned Seaholm water intake building and transform it into a building that builds upon the program of movie theater but more importantly serves as an edge condition bridge between the waterfront and the cityside. By incorporating the existing hike and bike trail to run through the intervention out over the water, the project is able to serve as an extension of the city while also interacting with the water by placing the dream boxes out into the water. Bystanders can use the trail to wander into the common spaces and enjoy the exterior boardwalk or perhaps choose to experience the upper deckspace, and later enjoy a film. Additionally the trail can just be used as a bypass to reach the other parts of the city while enjoying a waterfront view and fresh experience. The intervention allows for the people of Austin to interact without having to be directy associated with moviegoing and further strenghtens the iconic edge condition of the Seaholm District.

Fighting Global Warming Network- Fall 2019 Professor Martin Haettesch

The health of the globe is in peril and in an effort to improve the quality of the planet, the fictional Fighting Global Warming Network (FGWN) was established to aid the world and in this circumstance, the city of Austin, with the end goal of improving the conditions of the planet. The project proposal provides members of the FGWN with the necessary facilities needed in their fight by creating technology labs, research spaces, as well as housing for visiting and resident researchers. Additionaly, the proposal aims to engage the community in environmental learning and interaction through the creation of public spaces such as plazas to allow open exhibitions and learning spaces such as classrooms and large lobbies that allow for a collaborative learning experience between the FGWN and the residents of the community. The ground level is open to allow for street goers to enter and filter through without the need to become increasingly involved with the FGWN but still have a hand in what occurs. The primary labs are set below ground to create exclusive access to researchers while providing them with a view out into the river as a metaphor for what they are fighting towards. 36

47

Sectional Shock-Spring 2020 A series of sectional collages and drawings that describe not only a physical journey but an introspective one as well. This first drawing represents the journey from a very grounded bottom to a light and weightless space being suspended by only a small member and the weight of the lower portion of the journey. Reaching the top provides relief after a harrowing journey. The final drawing and model are a representation of the Seven Floors story and how ones journey to the bottom creates moments of pause and false hope, much like how the spaces open up to the light but provide no escape only the path down to turmoil and ultimately a deathly peace.
