STUDIO SIMPLE Dunes EN The marriage between Serax and Studio Simple is of the long and very successful kind. Ann Vereecken and Jeroen Worst possess the gift of highlighting the beauty of everyday, almost obvious objects, to add something special to simple things. The list of designs they are adding to their Serax portfolio this year is far from spectacular, but this is precisely what makes them so special – if only because there is a very sustainable idea behind rediscovering the simple things in life.

NL Het huwelijk tussen Serax en Studio Simple is er eentje van de lange en zeer succesvolle soort. Ann Vereecken en Jeroen Worst bezitten immers de gave om de schoonheid van alledaagse, bijna voor de hand liggende objecten in de verf te zetten. Om eenvoudige gebruiksvoorwerpen toch iets speciaals te geven. Het lijstje designs dat zij dit jaar aan hun Serax-palmares toevoegen is dan ook verre van spectaculair, maar net daardoor bijzonder. Al was het maar omdat er een erg duurzaam idee zit achter het herontdekken van de simpele dingen des levens.

FR Le mariage entre Serax et Studio Simple est une union de longue date et particulièrement couronnée de succès. Ann Vereecken et Jeroen Worst ont en effet le don de faire ressortir la beauté des objets du quotidien, presque évidents. De donner une touche spéciale à des objets ordinaires à usage domestique. La liste de designs qu’ils ajoutent cette année à leur palmarès Serax est loin d’être spectaculaire, mais c’est précisément la raison pour laquelle elle s’en trouve particulière. Ne serait-ce que parce qu’il y a une idée vraiment durable derrière la redécouverte des choses simples de la vie.

DE Die Verbindung zwischen Serax und Studio Simple ist eine der langlebigen und äußerst erfolgreichen Art. Ann Vereecken und Jeroen Worst besitzen nämlich die Gabe, die Schönheit alltäglicher, ja nahezu selbstverständlicher Objekte in den Blickpunkt zu rücken und einfachen Gebrauchsgegenständen eine besondere Note zu verleihen. So ist die Liste von Designs, die sie in diesem Jahr zu ihrem Serax-Portfolio hinzufügen, alles andere als spektakulär und gerade deshalb so besonders. Und sei es nur der Umstand, dass sich hinter der Neuentdeckung der einfachen Dinge des Lebens ein ausgesprochen nachhaltiger Gedanke verbirgt.

PIET BOON Base EN “We have focused on the transition from handle to blade. By making them from one piece of metal, the knives are given a sculptural look. This gives them a no-nonsense, pure and even a somewhat masculine character,” says Piet Boon. The special feature of the four different knives – chef's knife, carving knife, bread knife and Japanese santoku knife – is that they all have the same length. This is not a coincidence, of course, but a self-imposed requirement to make them fit perfectly in the knife block at the same height. A central magnet ensures that the knives are always stored perfectly vertically. A simple line system makes it easy for the users to distinguish the knives in the block.

NL “We hebben ons gefocust op de overgang tussen heft en lemmet. Door die in één stuk metaal te vervaardigen krijgen de messen een sculpturaal uitzicht. Een no nonsense, puur en ietwat mannelijk karakter zelfs”, aldus Piet Boon. Heel bijzonder aan de vier verschillende messen - koksmes, vleesmes, broodmes en Japans santoku mes - is dat ze allemaal dezelfde lengte hebben.

Geen toeval uiteraard, maar een zelf opgelegde vereiste om perfect op gelijke hoogte in het messenblok te passen.

Een centrale magneet zorgt ervoor dat de messen telkens perfect verticaal gestockeerd worden en een eenvoudig lijnensysteem maakt het de gebruikers gemakkelijk om de messen te onderscheiden in het blok.

FR « Nous nous sommes concentrés sur la transition entre le manche et la lame. Leur fabrication dans un seul et même morceau de métal confère aux couteaux un aspect sculptural. Un caractère réfléchi, pur et quelque peu masculin », explique Piet Boon. La grande particularité des quatre couteaux – à savoir le couteau de cuisine, le couteau à viande, le couteau à pain et le couteau Santoku japonais – est qu’ils ont tous la même longueur.

Ce qui n’est certes pas un hasard, mais une règle imposée pour un placement parfait à la même hauteur dans le bloc. Un aimant central veille à ce que les couteaux soient à chaque fois parfaitement rangés à la verticale et un système de ligne simple aide les utilisateurs à distinguer facilement les couteaux dans le bloc.

Das Besondere an den vier verschiedenen Messern – einem Kochmesser, Fleischmesser, Brotmesser und japanischen Santoku-Messer – ist ihre identische Länge. Das ist natürlich kein Zufall, sondern eine bewusste Entscheidung, damit sie gleich weit aus dem Messerblock herausragen. Ein Magnet in der Mitte sorgt dafür, dass die Messer perfekt vertikal gelagert werden, und mithilfe eines einfachen Liniensystems können die Nutzer sie im Block mühelos voneinander unterscheiden.

KOEN VAN GUIJZE Sofisticato EN The Sofisticato collection owes its raw, timeless beauty to the minimalist design and the frequent use of blue steel.

Or as Koen Van Guijze describes it: “A straightforward material, fashioned by human hands, not spat out by a machine.” Every single part is manually milled, turned, sawn, drilled, and welded by craftsmen. Then the steel is heated and carefully polished by hand. This procedure makes the steel rust-resistant, in addition to giving it its characteristic blue glow.

NL De Sofisticato-collectie dankt haar ruwe, tijdloze schoonheid vooral aan de minimalistische vormgeving en het veelvuldige gebruik van blauwstaal. Of zoals Koen Van Guijze het beschrijft: “Een eerlijk materiaal dat door mensenhanden wordt gemaakt, niet uitgespuwd door een machine.” Elk onderdeel wordt met de hand gefreesd, gedraaid, gezaagd, geboord en gelast door vakmensen.

Daarna wordt het staal handmatig verhit en zorgvuldig geboend. Deze procedure maakt het staal roestvrij, en geeft het ook zijn karakteristieke blauwe gloed.

FR La collection Sofisticato doit principalement sa beauté rude et intemporelle au stylisme minimaliste et à l’utilisation multiple de l’acier bleui. Ou comme le décrit Koen Van Guijze : « Un matériau équitable, qui est fabriqué manuellement et qui n’est pas recraché par une machine. » Chaque pièce est fraisée, tournée, sciée, percée et soudée à la main par des professionnels. L’acier est ensuite chauffé manuellement et soigneusement poli. Cette procédure rend l’acier inoxydable et lui confère également son éclat bleuté caractéristique. Tous les luminaires peuvent parfaitement être combinés les uns avec les autres.

DE Die Sofisticato-Kollektion verdankt ihre rohe, zeitlose Schönheit vor allem der minimalistischen Formgestaltung und dem massiven Einsatz von Blaustahl. Oder, wie Koen Van Guijze es beschreibt: „Ein ehrliches Material, das durch Menschenhand hergestellt wird und nicht von einer Maschine ausgespuckt wird.” Jedes Teil wird per Hand von Fachleuten gefräst, gedreht, gesägt, gebohrt und geschweißt. Anschließend wird der Stahl manuell erhitzt und sorgfältig gebürstet. Dieses Verfahren macht den Stahl rostfrei und verleiht ihm auch seine typisch blaue Färbung.

EN It’s not olive, it certainly isn’t mustard, and it definitely isn’t khaki. Cardamom comes close. In any case, there is something earthy about it. “It's our colour,” says Ann Vereecken with determination about the new CARDAMOM lamp, a steel hanging lamp in two different sizes. In addition, you can also change the height from the inside. By playing with different heights, the light emerges from the cylinder in a different way each time and the light itself also changes. Moreover, every lamp is painted by hand, which gives this industrial product a certain tactility. And a sense of craftsmanship, something that Studio Simple feels very strongly about.

FR Ce n’est pas de l’olive, ni même de la moutarde et certainement pas du kaki. Il y a de la cardamome dans l’air.

Dans tous les cas, une note épicée. « C’est notre couleur », dit Ann Vereecken avec conviction à propos de la nouvelle lampe CARDAMOM. Un lustre en acier disponible en deux dimensions, dont vous pouvez encore adapter la hauteur depuis l’intérieur. En ajustant les différentes hauteurs, la lumière traverse le cylindre à chaque fois de façon différente pour vous donner un autre éclairage. En outre, chaque lampe est peinte à la main afin d'offrir à ce produit industriel une certaine tactilité. Un sens de l’artisanat porté en très haute estime par Studio Simple.

NL Het is geen olijf, zeker geen mosterd en helemaal geen kaki. Kardemom komt in de buurt. Iets kruidigs heeft het in elk geval. “Het is onze kleur”, zegt Ann Vereecken vastberaden over de nieuwe CARDAMOM-lamp. Een stalen hanglamp in twee verschillende groottes, die je bovendien binnenin nog van hoogte kan veranderen. Door te spelen met verschillende hoogtes valt het licht telkens op een andere manier doorheen de cilinder en krijg je ook ander licht. Elke lamp wordt bovendien met de hand geschilderd zodat dit industriële product toch een zekere tactiliteit krijgt. Een gevoel van ambacht, iets wat door Studio Simple zeer hoog in het vaandel wordt gedragen.

DE Weder Olivgrün noch Senfgelb und schon gar nicht Khaki. Kardamom hält Einzug. Etwas Würziges versprüht sie auf jeden Fall. „Das ist unsere Farbe“, so Ann Vereecken zur neuen CARDAMOM-Lampe: eine in zwei verschiedenen Größen erhältliche Hängelampe aus Stahl, deren Höhe sich innen außerdem noch einstellen lässt. Indem mit verschiedenen Höhen experimentiert wird, fällt das Licht jedes Mal anders durch den Zylinder, wobei sich auch die Art des Lichtes verändert. Jede Lampe wird außerdem von Hand gestrichen, sodass dieses industrielle Produkt eine ansprechende Haptik erhält. Ein handwerkliches Flair, auf welches Studio Simple großen Wert legt.

ANTONINO SCIORTINO Volo The best designs arise from personal frustration, and Antonino Sciortino is no exception to this rule.

When he went in search of a sofa for his beautiful home in the centre of Milan, he did not find what he was looking for. Sciortino immediately went to his studio and created his own sofa and day bed with his favourite material, steel.

“I wanted a sofa whose rigid structure was barely visible, so that the soft part would give the impression that it is floating,” says Sciortino, who has given his collection the name VOLO, Italian for ‘flight’. “The great structural capacity of the steel has allowed me to create a very minimalistic frame to support the cushions. The shape may be very pure and strict, but thanks to the focus on the cushions, the whole looks very soft and inviting. ” Steel is not the only characteristic of Sciortino’s work – his contemporary, straightforward style fits in perfectly with different interior styles and tastes. There is also a Belgian aspect to VOLO, because of the upholstery in petrol and curry Belgian Libeco linen with contrasting stitching to draw even more attention to the inviting softness of the sofa.

NL De beste designs ontstaan uit een persoonlijke frustratie, en dat is bij Antonino Sciortino niet anders.

Toen hij voor zijn prachtige huis in hartje Milaan op zoek ging naar een sofa vond hij niet meteen wat hij zocht.

Sciortino dook meteen zijn atelier in en creëerde met zijn geliefkoosde materiaal, staal, een eigen sofa en dagbed.

“Ik wilde een bank waarvan de rigide structuur niet of nauwelijks zichtbaar was, zodat het zachte gedeelte de indruk zou wekken te zweven”, vertelt Sciortino, die zijn collectie dan ook de naam VOLO meegaf, Italiaans voor ‘vlucht’. “De grote weerstand van het staal heeft ervoor gezorgd dat ik een heel minimaal skelet heb kunnen creëren om de kussens te ondersteunen. De vorm mag dan heel puur en streng zijn, dankzij de focus op de kussens oogt het geheel net heel zacht en uitnodigend.”

Typerend voor Sciortino is niet alleen het staalwerk maar net zo goed een eigentijdse, sobere stijl die perfect aansluit bij verschillende interieurstijlen en smaken.

VOLO heeft ook nog een Belgisch kantje, de stoffering in petrol en curry gebeurt immers in het Belgische linnen van Libeco, met contraststiksels om de aandacht nog meer naar het zachte karakter van de sofa te trekken.

FR Les meilleurs designs naissent d’une frustration personnelle, et celui d’Antonino Sciortino n’y fait pas exception. Lorsqu'il s’est mis à la recherche d’un canapé pour sa superbe maison du centre de Milan, il n’a pas trouvé directement ce qu’il convoitait. Sciortino s’est alors enfermé dans son atelier pour y créer un canapé et un lit de jour avec son matériau de prédilection : l’acier. « Je voulais un canapé dont la structure rigide était à peine visible, voire pas du tout, afin que la partie moelleuse donne l’impression de flotter », explique-t-il. Le designer a baptisé sa collection du nom de VOLO, ce qui signifie « envol » en italien. « La résistance élevée de l’acier m’a permis de créer un squelette très minimaliste afin d'accueillir les coussins. La forme peut dès lors sembler très épurée et stricte. Grâce à l’attention portée sur les coussins, l’ensemble paraît très moelleux et accueillant. » Comme de coutume pour Sciortino, on trouve non seulement le travail de l’acier, mais également un style sobre et contemporain qui correspond parfaitement à différents goûts et styles d’intérieur. VOLO a également un petit côté belge. En effet, la garniture en petrol et curry est confectionnée en lin belge de Libeco, avec coutures de contraste pour souligner d’autant mieux le caractère confortable du canapé.

persönlichen Frust heraus, so auch bei Antonino Sciortino.

Als er sich für sein wunderschönes Haus im Herzen von Mailand auf die Suche nach einem Sofa begab, wurde er nicht sofort fündig. Daraufhin ging er in sein Atelier und fertigte ein eigenes Sofa und Tagesbett aus seinem Lieblingsmaterial Stahl an. „Ich wollte ein Sofa, dessen feste Struktur nicht bzw. kaum sichtbar ist, sodass der weiche Teil scheinbar schwebt“, so Sciortino, der seiner Kollektion den Namen VOLO (Italienisch für ‚Flug‘) gegeben hat. „Aufgrund der hohen Widerstandskraft des Stahls konnte ich die Tragekonstruktion für die Kissen auf ein Minimum reduzieren. Dabei darf die Form äußerst schlicht und streng sein; mit dem Fokus auf den Kissen wirkt das Ganze äußerst behaglich und einladend.“ Sciortinos Markenzeichen ist nicht nur der Einsatz von Stahl, sondern ebenso sehr ein moderner, schlichter Stil, der sich perfekt in unterschiedliche Einrichtungsstile einfügt und verschiedenen Geschmäckern etwas bietet.

VOLO beinhaltet außerdem eine belgische Note, da die petrol und curry Polsterung aus dem belgischen Leinen von Libeco hergestellt wird mit Kontraststickereien, die die Aufmerksamkeit noch stärker auf den weichen Charakter des Sofas lenken.

ANDREA CROONENBERGHS Side Table & Bench EN Searching for a particular type of side table and not finding it – that was all Andrea Croonenberghs needed to motivate her to sit down at the drawing board herself. “Above all, I wanted to create something more than just an ordinary, everyday table,” says Croonenberghs.

An irregular leg, for example, which creates a certain dynamic underneath the tabletop, in a very graphic way. Or extending the table to form a bench, covered in leather, with a wooden surface at one end. “I can see the ANDREA tables fitting into different interior styles, and having various functions. As a coffee table or side table, gracing the hall, the terrace, or a hotel lobby, for example.

You can literally and figuratively take this idea in any direction.” The steel frames with removable surfaces can also be used outdoors. The emerald green, ultramarine blue, and white tabletops are interchangeable, so the user's own creative impulses will also be invoked.

NL Op zoek gaan naar een welbepaald type bijzettafel en het maar niet vinden. Voor Andrea Croonenberghs volstond dat als motivatie om zelf aan de tekentafel plaats te nemen. “Ik wilde vooral iets méér doen dan het zoveelste tafeltje van dertien-in een dozijn”, aldus Croonenberghs.

Een onregelmatige poot bijvoorbeeld, die op een grafische manier voor een zekere dynamiek zorgt onder het tafelblad. Of het geheel verlengen tot een volledige zitbank, met leder overtrokken en met een aflegvlak in hout. “Ik zie de ANDREA-tafeltjes passen in verschillende interieurstijlen, en met verschillende functies. Als salontafel, bijzettafel, decoratief in de hal, op het terras of in een hotellobby. Je kan er letterlijk en figuurlijk alle kanten mee op.” De stalen frames met uitneembare plateau kunnen dus ook buiten gebruikt worden. De tafelbladen in smaragdgroen, ultramarijnblauw en wit zijn onderling verwisselbaar, dus ook eigen creatieve impulsen van de gebruiker vinden zeker hun weg.

FR Rechercher un type particulier de table d’appoint sans jamais rien trouver. Il n’en a pas fallu davantage pour motiver Andrea Croonenberghs à s'installer à la planche à dessin. « Je voulais surtout faire quelque chose de plus qu’une simple énième table », explique-t-elle. Une jambe irrégulière qui veille, par exemple de façon graphique, à une certaine dynamique sous le plateau de table. Ou prolonger le tout jusqu'à former un banc complet, gainé de cuir, avec un plan en bois. « Je vois de petites tables ANDREA s’intégrer dans divers styles d’intérieur, pour diverses fonctions.

Comme table basse, table d’appoint, déco dans un couloir, sur une terrasse ou dans un lobby d’hôtel.

Vous pouvez littéralement en faire ce que vous voulez. » Les cadres en acier avec plateau amovible peuvent donc également être utilisés en extérieur. Les plateaux de table vert émeraude, bleu ultramarin et blancs sont interchangeables. Dès lors, les pulsions créatrices propres de l’utilisateur trouvent assurément leur chemin.

DE Nach einer bestimmten Art von Beistelltisch zu suchen und einfach nicht fündig zu werden – für Andrea Croonenberghs war das Grund genug, sich selbst an den Zeichentisch zu setzen. „ Mir war es wichtig, mehr als den x-ten gewöhnlichen Tisch zu entwerfen“, so Croonenberghs.

Deshalb entwarf sie beispielsweise einen unregelmäßigen Fuß, der eine gewisse grafische Dynamik unter der Tischplatte erzeugt. Außerdem kann das Ganze zu einer vollständigen Sitzbank mit Lederüberzug und einer Ablagefläche aus Holz verlängert werden. „Ich kann mir die kleinen ANDREA-Tische in verschiedenen Einrichtungsstilen und Funktionen vorstellen. Als Couchtisch, Beistelltisch, als Deko-Objekt im Flur, auf der Terrasse oder in einer Hotellobby.

Damit kann man buchstäblich und im übertragenen Sinne alles machen.“ Die Stahlrahmen mit herausnehmbarer Tischplatte können also auch draußen verwendet werden. Die Tischplatten in Smaragdgrün, Ultramarinblau und Weiß sind austauschbar, womit der Nutzer seiner Kreativität freien Lauf lassen kann.

PEPIJN TYVAERT Discus EN If well begun is half done, then a bright future lies ahead for Pepijn Tyvaert. After all, Tyvaert has not even graduated yet, and has already won the design competition that Serax organised in collaboration with the Belgian magazine Weekend Knack. He achieved this with DISCUS, a multifunctional steel clothes rack. This rack is equipped with discs on which users can leave their daily trinkets: from a bunch of keys and sunglasses to scarves, belts, watches and jewellery. You know, those little things for which you never really find a good place. “As an object, I find a clothes rack much more interesting than a closet,” says Tyvaert, who did not have a specific location in mind for the DISCUS when he designed it. “I can see it working both in a student room and in a loft, but just as well in a hotel room or a restaurant.”

NL Als goed begonnen half gewonnen is dan ligt er een mooie toekomst in het verschiet voor Pepijn Tyvaert.

Nog niet eens afgestudeerd wist Tyvaert immers al de overwinning binnen te halen van de designwedstrijd die Serax uitschreef in samenwerking met het Belgische magazine Weekend Knack. Hij deed dat met Discus, een multifunctioneel kledingrek in staal. Een rek voorzien van schijven waar gebruikers hun dagelijkse kleinigheden op kunnen achterlaten. Van een bos sleutels en een zonnebril tot sjaaltjes, riemen, horloges of juwelen. Je kent ze wel, de prullaria die nooit écht een goede plaats vinden. “Ik vind een kledingrek als object veel interessanter dan een kast”, aldus Tyvaert, die de Discus niet met een specifieke bestemming in het achterhoofd ontwierp. “Ik zie hem zowel op een studentenkot functioneren als in een loft, een hotelkamer of een restaurant.”

Vous les connaissez bien, ces « brols » qui ne trouvent jamais leur place. « Selon moi, en tant qu’objet, un portant me paraît bien plus intéressant qu’un placard », explique Tyvaert. Pourtant, il n’a pas été conçu dans une intention particulière. « Je le vois trouver sa place dans un kot d’étudiant ou dans un loft, une chambre d’hôtel ou un restaurant. » DE Wenn gut begonnen halb gewonnen ist, dürfte Pepijn Tyvaert eine schöne Zukunft bevorstehen. Noch während seines Studiums hat er den Designwettbewerb gewonnen, den Serax in Zusammenarbeit mit dem belgischen Magazin Weekend Knack organisiert hat.

Seine eingereichte Wettbewerbsarbeit war DISCUS, ein multifunktionaler Kleiderständer aus Stahl. Er ist mit Scheiben versehen, auf denen kleine Alltagsgegenstände wie etwa ein Schlüsselbund, eine Sonnenbrille oder auch Schals, Gürtel, Uhren oder Schmuck abgelegt werden können. Wer kennt es nicht? Jeder dürfte vereinzelte Dinge haben, für die er keinen passenden Platz findet. „ Als Objekt finde ich einen Kleiderständer viel interessanter als einen Schrank“, so Tyvaert, der beim Entwurf des DISCUS kein bestimmtes Ziel vor Augen hatte. „Ich kann ihn mir sowohl in einer Studentenwohnung als auch in einem Loft, einem Hotelzimmer oder einem Restaurant vorstellen.“

Volumes EN For the new collection of five vases, Studio Piet Boon played with the different thicknesses and heights that they always saw reappearing in commercial vases. By experimenting with them, volumes of different heights have been created at the top. These volumes have an important function: they keep the flowers in the right place. “A volume for one flower, a volume for Ikebana, a volume for a large bouquet and a volume for a small or large plant,” Piet Boon explains. For the VASE collection’s earthy colour palette, Boon drew his inspiration from paintings by Italian artist Giorgio Morandi. “In line with the BASE tableware, the VASE collection is intended for mixing and matching different sizes and colours,” says Boon. “These vases don't need a lot of flowers, by the way. Just a couple of branches or a few beautiful large flowers will suffice.”

NL Voor de nieuwe collectie van vijf vazen speelde Studio Piet Boon met de verschillende diktes en hoogtes die ze in commerciële vazen steeds terug zagen komen. Door daarmee te gaan experimenteren ontstonden er bovenaan volumes in verschillende hoogtes. Volumes die een belangrijke functie vervullen: zij houden de bloemen of planten op de juiste plaats. “Een volume voor 1 bloem, een volume voor Ikebana, een volume voor een groot boeket en een volume voor een kleine of grote plant”, licht Piet Boon toe. Voor het aardse kleurenpalet van VASE haalde Boon zijn inspiratie uit schilderijen van de Italiaanse kunstenaar Giorgio Morandi. “Net als bij het BASE-servies is het de bedoeling dat je gaat mixen en matchen met verschillende afmetingen en kleuren”, aldus Boon. “Heel veel bloemen hebben deze vazen trouwens niet nodig. Enkele takken of mooie grote bloemen kunnen al volstaan.”

FR Pour la nouvelle collection de cinq vases, Studio Piet Boon a joué avec les différentes épaisseurs et les différentes hauteurs habituelles des vases commerciaux.

Après moult tentatives sont apparus par-dessus des volumes à différentes hauteurs. Ces derniers remplissent une fonction importante : maintenir les plantes ou fleurs en place. « Un volume pour une fleur, un volume pour Ikebana, un autre pour un grand bouquet et un dernier pour une grande ou petite plante », explique Piet Boon. Pour la palette de couleurs terreuses de VASE, Boon a puisé son inspiration dans les peintures de l’artiste italien Giorgio Morandi. « Tout comme pour le service BASE, l’objectif est de pouvoir mélanger et associer différentes dimensions et couleurs », poursuit-il. « Ces vases n’ont d’ailleurs pas besoin de beaucoup de fleurs. Quelques branches ou quelques belles grandes fleurs suffisent déjà. »

DE Für die neue fünfteilige Vasenkollektion hat Studio Piet Boon mit den verschiedenen bei handelsüblichen Vasen gängigen Dicken und Höhen experimentiert. Dabei sind an der Oberkante Volumen in verschiedenen Höhen entstanden, die eine wichtige Rolle spielen: Sie halten die Blumen oder Pflanzen in der richtigen Position. „Ein Volumen für 1 Blume, eines für Ikebana, ein weiteres für einen großen Blumenstrauß und ein Volumen für eine kleine oder große Pflanze“, erklärt Piet Boon. Für die erdige Farbpalette von VASE hat sich Boon von Gemälden des italienischen Künstlers Giorgio Morandi inspirieren lassen. „Ebenso wie beim BASE-Service sollen sich die Vasen in verschiedenen Maßen und Farben miteinander kombinieren lassen“, so Boon. „Diese Vasen brauchen übrigens keine großen Blumensträuße. Einige Zweige oder schöne große Blumen reichen bereits aus.“

MORRIS MARIGO Bubblebubble EN This time the Italian floral artist wanted to create a design aimed at presenting a larger and heavier flower in an elegant way. He came up with three vases in different sizes that are attached to a metal plate by means of a magnet, which makes it easier to move the whole. The name refers to the bubble-shaped bulge in the glass, but also to air bubbles in water, which are essential for the survival of the flower.

NL Deze keer wou de Italiaanse bloemenkunstenaar een ontwerp maken om een grotere en zwaardere bloem op een elegante manier te presenteren. Hij bedacht drie vazen in verschillende afmetingen die met een magneet bevestigd zijn aan een metalen plaat. Het geheel kan op die manier gemakkelijk verplaatst worden. De naam verwijst naar de belvormige uitsparing in het glas, maar ook naar waterbelletjes, die noodzakelijk zijn voor het overleven van de bloem.

FR Cette fois, l’artiste floral italien a voulu créer un objet permettant de présenter avec élégance une fleur plus grande et plus majestueuse. Il a conçu une structure accueillant trois vases de différents formats fixés à une plaque métallique. L’ensemble peut ainsi aisément être déplacé, sans risque de se renverser. Le nom renvoie à l’ampoule en forme de bulle présente dans le verre, mais aussi aux bulles d’air dans l’eau, indispensables à la survie de la fleur.

DE Diesmal wollte der italienische Blumenkünstler ein Objekt erschaffen, in dem größere und schwerere Blumen auf elegante Weise präsentiert werden können.

Aus dieser Idee entstanden drei Vasen in verschiedenen Größen, die mit einem Magnet an einer Metallplatte befestigt sind, was wiederum ein leichtes Versetzen ermöglicht. Der Name verweist auf die blasenförmige Ausstülpung im Glas, aber auch auf Luftbläschen im Wasser, die für das Überleben der Blume notwendig sind.

Serax is the brainchild of Serge and AXel Van Den Bossche. Two brothers who were brought up amidst the flowerpot trade in their mother’s business. Over the past thirty years, the small-scale business that started up in a garage in 1986 has grown into a multinational with over 65 employees and a head office in Antwerp. Today, the company is led by Axel. Axel’s wife – marie michielssen – is Serax’ house designer. She is the creator of, amongst other things, the famous ‘Cactus Vase’. Serax is a family business where passion runs through the veins.

WE DESIGN HAPPINESS

All Serax collections – from tableware, glass, and furniture to flowerpots and lighting – are all carefully chosen for the purpose of creating interiors that bring happiness.

The interior of a home is the mirror of the personality of the people living in it. Therefore, Serax and its team of designers only selects and edits products that have soul.

Working with well-known and lesser known designers is built into Serax’ DNA. in 1990, the brand started a tentative collaboration with Peter Arts, which was quite revolutionary in the florist design industry.

One year later, Serax achieved international fame, thanks to the collaboration with floral artist Daniel Ost, who designed ‘The Flower Booth’ for the French design fair maison & Objet. The seed was planted. Since then, Serax has entered into dozens of partnerships that have resulted in renowned collections and success at an international level.

WE HAVE A TABLEWARE LOVE STORY When founder Axel met ceramic artist roos van de Velde in 2009, he wasn’t aware that this encounter would change the future of his company forever. After the launch of her tableware collection, starred restaurants from all over the world suddenly lined up to order from Serax.

Today, Serax is the number one reference for michelin chefs to provide them with the necessary creative porcelain or ceramics that enhance the aesthetics of their dishes.

Over the past thirty years, Serax has been growing at a very fast rate. Yet it has never lost track of its basic principles. Therefore, every collection is crafted traditionally. Serax travels the globe with selected prototypes from designers to find the right craftsmen to manufacture on a larger scale. From Vietnam through Antwerp to Portugal.
