Reception: January 14, 6-9 pm Meet the Artist ALTAMIRA FINE ART SCOTTSDALE

Altamira Fine Art Scottsdale welcomes pop-photo realist Robert Townsend for his first one man show at the gallery. Dreamland opens January 11, 2016 with an artist reception held on Thursday, January 14th from 6-9pm during the Main Street ArtWalk in downtown Scottsdale’s Arts District.

“ My work is often discussed as being about mid-century Americana, about a time before my time, and about a detailed style of painting. These are all certainly true. However, I’ve realized lately that my work is ultimately about my own little dreamland, hence the show title. I have a dreamer’s life and mind, and my dreams just happen to be about the 1950’s and 60’s in America. But it’s the dreaming that tells the real story. I have this fascination with expressing these utopian notions, fantasies of candies and pies, household products and visions of the American roads. I’m glad to have my daily dreams and I hope to share these dreams and a few smiles through my paintings as well.” ~ Robert Townsend Presales available. Call 480-949-1256 or email az@altamiraart.com

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

ROBERT TOWNSEND

ALTAMIRA FINE ART SCOTTSDALE

Robert Townsend was born in Downey, California in 1974. His unfailing eye for color and texture produce a vision of America’s material culture that vacillates between nostalgia for what is lost and optimism for the continuation of American ingenuity. Townsend’s aesthetic draws heavily from his California upbringing and life in Los Angeles. Sighting American painters Wayne Thiebaud and Robert Bechtle as primary influences, Townsend’s work is a mixture of pop, photo-realism, surrealism and representational interpretations of largely mid-century subject matter. His exceptional technical ability is complemented by a painterly approach to color and design, with occasional whimsical elements adding a playfulness to his skillfully crafted watercolors and oils.
