The 2024 Olympic Games Pavilion of the FFCK

As part of the 2024 Olympic Games, each National School of Architecture will create a pavilion. I had the opportunity to be part of my school’s team to design our pavilion project. These pavilions, inspired by sports, will be constructed in the Parc de la Villette in Paris.

Each pavilion is associated with a sports federation to promote it. During the Olympic Games period, they will be open to the general public to introduce them to various disciplines. At my school a group of students in Grenoble, we worked with the French Canoe Kayak Federation (FFCK), aiming to bring visibility and engagement to the sport through our architectural contribution.

Conception & Fabrication :

For the 2024 Olympic Games, I joined my school’s team to design a pavilion for Parc de la Villette in Paris. My roles included managing the 3D model, then focusing on the design and construction of the pavilion’s central core, inspired by wave shapes and made with Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC). Using Rhino Grasshopper, my group and I developed scripts and tested forms to achieve a dynamic, wave-like structure. After selecting MDF for the formwork, I prepared files for CNC machining to accurately shape the complex geometry. Finally, we poured UHPC and carefully removed the formwork to reveal a high-precision wave-inspired core, bringing our vision to life.

Manufacturing Process of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) Elements :

3. Milling of the MDF formwork base
2. 3D modeling
1. Grasshopper script of the shape
8. Handling the concrete panels (UHPC)
4. Preparation of the formwork
9. Positioning the panels
6. Removing the concrete panel from formwork (UHPC)
12. Final appearance of the concrete (UHPC)
5. Pouring the concrete (UHPC)
11. Surface treatment of the concrete (UHPC)
7. Drying the concrete panels (UHPC)
10. Assembly of the panels

Visualization

I was also tasked with creating realistic renderings of the project. To accomplish this, I used Rhino for the 3D modeling, Lumion for rendering, and Photoshop for post-processing. This combination of software allowed me to produce high-quality images that accurately represented the architectural design

The heart of this project beats with the promise of sanctuary, a haven for those seeking solace and tranquility far from the chaotic rhythms of city life. It extends an open invitation to all in need of a pause, a chance to deeply breathe and rejuvenate within the embrace of nature’s embrace. Picture a landscape adorned with meandering trails, hugged by diverse flora, offering a rare opportunity to rediscover the forgotten splendor that nature conceals amidst urban sprawls. To complement this retreat, a fine dining establishment graces the grounds—a restaurant with a sprawling terrace offering sweeping, picturesque views, allowing guests to savor exceptional cuisine while immersed in the breathtaking scenery. This architectural gem in Grenoble beckons as a haven for relaxation, exploration, and awe—a seamless melding of nature, art, and gastronomy crafting an unforgettable experience.

The project integrates seamlessly into the slope, expanding vertically while respecting natural contours. A design adjustment reduces the perceived steepness to 15%, ensuring accessible paths.

Verdant Harmony’ welcomes guests with reception in the south and an exhibition space beside an outdoor amphitheater in north.

²Upper floors offer serene, nature-inspired rooms, while the fourth floor features fine dining in the south and a panoramic terrace in the north, creating an ideal setting to relax, dine, and enjoy the surrounding beauty.

Why to demolish and not double the livingspace ?

The Idea is to rehabilitate an existing student residence on the mountain of Rabot in Grenoble. And add an extension, Instead of paying on the destruction and reconstruction of zero, we double the living space with the same budget .

This space disrupts the continuity between the old building and the new extension. Its purpose is to bring life to the structure, making it vibrant by offering areas that overlook Grenoble from the mountains. These spaces are designed to encourage community living among the residents and to host activities that attract people from the city.

This floor also features a relaxation area, providing a large space for hosting events for families or friends living in the neighborhood. The second area comprises a coffee shop with a vast terrace offering an incredible panoramic view of Grenoble. The third space is a versatile area surrounded by mountains and towering trees, creating an impression of complete isolation from the city.

Why bring together all possible activities to beach ?

the 7th arrondissement of Marseille encounters a social problem, the vast majority of inhabitants are young people, who have a reptetive life cycle; work, home. The project proposes to give a great diversity to its inhabitants by offering them a lot of activity in a single project. and as it is on the beach, it offers a ship stop which facilitates transport to the north of marseille and motivates people to leave their cars and which makes less traffic jams in the city center through which they have to pass.
