LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR We are thrilled at the amazing fruit we experienced last year. The year 2012 was one of continual growth, with more than 500,000 people hearing the gospel on an Alpha course across America and more than 250,000 making first-time decisions or recommitments to follow Christ. Dear Friends, As you read this report, I trust you will be encouraged by all that God is doing! The year 2012 was one of continual growth, with more than 500,000 people hearing the gospel on an Alpha course across America and more than 250,000 making first-time decisions or recommitments to follow Christ. And we are seeing further growth in 2013. ”Aslan is on the move,” and we are in a season of great excitement, as we see a steady increase in many of the regions, Alpha specialty ministries and strategic partnerships. For example, Youth Alpha at Grace Point Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo, grew from 19 to 57 teenagers. The majority of participants were unchurched individuals, and several were atheists or Wiccans, all asking questions as they heard about the love of Jesus, perhaps for the first time. Watch this story. In 2013, our prayer and aim is for 600,000 people to hear the gospel through Alpha, with more than 300,000 making first-time decisions or recommitments to follow Christ. This year is pivotal to our biggest vision yet — for 12 million people in the United States to hear the gospel on an Alpha course by 2016.This is our most ambitious goal to date, but we are compelled by a deep desire for lost and broken people to meet Jesus Christ. We believe it is important to take time to reflect and thank God for all He did in 2012. It is our hope that this report will both bless and encourage you, and perhaps even inspire you, as together we pray, plan and position ourselves for more kingdom growth in the days ahead. Steve Furtick recently said, “If your vision is not intimidating to you, it’s probably insulting to God.” Let’s not forget His faithfulness or underestimate His power to change and transform. Strategy
To make disciples of Jesus Christ from all walks of life and transform our society, one life, one church, one community at a time.
Our mission and vision will be completed through the local church, and in 2013, we hope to reach 600,000 people with the gospel by continuing to focus on increasing the number of churches that run Alpha, the number and types of courses that churches run, and the number of guests who attend an Alpha course.
Vision To reach 12 million people in the United States by 2016 with the wonderful news of Jesus Christ using the Alpha course, which works to further the global vision to reach 100 million people by 2020.

By the grace of God, our strategy is to focus on these five key areas: • Continuing to make prayer our first priority, with a particular emphasis on asking the Father to pour out the Holy Spirit on our land. • Strengthening and building regional and specialty teams, including strong and effective advisory boards and outstanding IT, fundraising, marketing, training, finance and other support systems. • Improving funding methods and techniques that can adapt to an increasingly mobile society. • Implementing better-quality training, including the Alpha weekend, where churches can learn and experience together the work and person of the Holy Spirit. • Increasingly emphasizing engaging the younger generation to attend and lead Alpha.

What is Alpha? Alpha is an opportunity to freely explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over 10 thought-provoking weekly sessions. People enjoy a great meal and learn about Jesus in a friendly atmosphere, where no question about life or God is too simple or too hostile. Alpha is run by all major denominations in 169 countries and in more than 100 languages; more than 22 million people have done Alpha worldwide. Alpha is for everyone, from any background, who wants to explore the big questions of life!

What is Alpha USA? Alpha USA is the organization that facilitates the spread of the Alpha course throughout the United States. In addition to our Central Support Team, and regional and specialty Directors, we rely on thousands of volunteers to help run more and better courses. We are here to serve and support churches and Christ followers. By connecting with us, you have access to many resources, such as training calls and webinars, prayer, course promotional materials and leadership development. We also have tools to help foster discipleship, deeper spiritual growth and family life, including The Marriage Course, The Marriage Preparation Course, The Parenting Children Course and Parenting Teenager Course.

Who Runs Alpha? Churches of every major denomination are running Alpha courses. Alpha courses are run in every imaginable setting, including church classrooms, prisons, schools, coffeehouses, executive boardrooms, cafeterias and living rooms. Alpha is uniquely suited to reach people where they feel most comfortable.

Alpha Specialty Ministries alpha [ for PRISONS and Re-Entry ] Alpha in a criminal justice setting gives inmates permission to actively participate and discuss issues, questions and concerns as they explore Christianity.
Relationship Central is an excellent companion to Alpha. It provides practical support in all areas of family life and relationships. alpha [ IN THE WORKPLACE ] The Alpha course tailored to fit effectively in a one-hour lunch break. Together coworkers explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, nonthreatening atmosphere. Over the past two years, Alpha in the Workplace has grown by 289 percent. alpha [ MULTICULTURAL ] Multicultural Alpha courses presented in Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish are all designed to meet the mosaic of ethnic groups in the United States. alpha [ ESOL ] Alpha ESOL (English speakers of other languages) is a series of short talks presented in English and designed for people who are new to Christian concepts.
Introduces young people (ages 11 to18) to Jesus Christ. Run by teens for teens, it is richly contextualized for groups using live talks, video clips, stories and object lessons.
Condenses the classic Alpha course into seven weeks and is spiced with multimedia ingredients. alpha [ for Catholics ] The Alpha course presented in a Catholic setting is used by parishes to inspire Catholic renewal and answer the call to the New Evangelization. Over the past two years, Alpha for Catholics has grown by 90.7 percent. alpha [ FOR LATINOS ] The Alpha course presented in Spanish. alpha [ FOR SENIORS ] Provides spiritual care for seniors and creates a new awareness of the spiritual needs of the elderly.

Spotlight on Alpha for Catholics There is an unbelievable door of opportunity that is opening within the Catholic Church in America. It is the beginning of a new season of openness in Catholic churches. Steve Mitchell, our Alpha for Catholics national director, has established a strong advisory board, a group of empowered advisors with several priests and bishops. Alpha for Catholics has experienced 91 percent growth over the past two years, from 193 to 368 courses.

The process begins with a simple invitation. Occasionally someone will come to Alpha on his or her own, but most attend the course because of a personal invitation.
Impact a Whole Community
With renewed hearts for the surrounding community and the Word, people of the church continue to invest in what God has called them to do. Sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, the church flourishes as it empowers their community for Christ.
Integrate Alpha Guests In Alpha small groups, people are accepted and encouraged to ask any question. This Holy Spirit-infused environment often leads to transformation, where new disciples gradually bloom and experience leadership development as they attend worship services, serve on Alpha, and begin to give of their time, talents and finances.

Alpha’s vision is local. We have more than 50 regional and specialty teams nationwide. We aim to serve and support local churches to reach their communities by providing essential and easy-to-use resources, tools and training opportunities.

The Central Support Team (CST) works to support the local and specialty teams in spreading the gospel. The CST provides marketing, finance, HR, IT, data management, publishing, fund developing and broad vision.

Field Focus: Eric Metaxas, the Gospel and Alpha in Ohio
Bruce Farley, the regional director in northeast Ohio, reflectively states, “God is waiting to tell good stories.” In November 2012, he and his team hosted an event that impacted many lives — 1,600 and still counting. It was the Regional Benefit Dinner,
and the northeast Ohio team orchestrated for Eric Metaxas, a renowned author and speaker, to share his journey of coming to Christ and his discovery of incredible champions of faith, such as William Wilberforce and Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
it changed everything. Even when all seemed to dissipate around them, they remained faithful and maintained their stance for Christ. Metaxas exclaimed, “God’s Gospel is the secret to the universe. ... it’s everything.”
Metaxas focused on how Wilberforce and Bonhoeffer both answered the call of God in their day and age, a time when “there was unfathomable injustice in that sick culture.” These figures illustrate how when they accepted the gospel,

Leadership Team & Board Members Gerard Long Executive Director Gerard’s passion is to know Jesus Christ, to see Him glorified, and to introduce as many people to Him as possible. Born in the United Kingdom and now living in the United States, Gerard started running Alpha in his home in 1995. He was a pastor for 17 years while also an executive at one of the world’s largest banks, HSBC. Gerard left a successful 30-year career with HSBC, as senior vice president, to lead Alpha USA. Mike Singh COO Mike and his wife came to faith on an Alpha course. Mike spent 15 years in entrepreneurial ventures and the banking industry, most recently with HSBC. He earned a BA/BS from DePaul University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management. Jim Charlton Director of Course Development Jim led an Alpha course for a local church staff and

then worked to introduce Alpha in Chicago. Jim had a 20-year law career with a Chicago-area law firm. He received his BA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his JD from DePaul University. Reuben Arulanandam Director of Strategic Initiatives and Information Technology Reuben has degrees in computer engineering from the University of Bombay and pastoral studies from Moody Bible Institute. After working as a software developer for eight years, he spent the last 12 years in technology sales and marketing, selling Microsoft solutions and services for three different Microsoft Gold-Certified Partners. Wayne Kriemelmeyer* Director of Human Resources Wayne worked for 16 years in the field of human resources in corporate environments and at HR consulting firms. He earned a Ph.D. at Northwestern University in organization theory.

Laura Lies* Senior National Coordinator of Relationship Central Laura has a strong background in corporate and ministry leadership. Kirk Petersen* Senior Regional Director for the Northwest Prior to joining Alpha, Kirk served for 17 years as a youth pastor. He also has authored several devotionals for students, leads worship and has run two marathons for Team Alpha. Sharing Alpha International’s Global Mission We are a part of Alpha International’s global mission to reach 100 million people by 2020. One dollar in every $4 raised in the United States is given to Alpha International to help fund the spread of the gospel overseas. By God’s grace, we raised $1.5 million in 2012 to help spread the gospel overseas using Alpha.

In addition, last year we saw 30 Global Alpha Teams being sent from various churches across America to train leaders overseas on how to run an Alpha course in their towns and villages. Here is an example of what a GAT team did in Cambodia.
In Africa There has been great growth in the Alpha for Prisons and ReEntry course. In Ghana, we saw a remarkable reduction in the reoffending rate, from 65 percent to 20 percent.

In India and China The HTB Leadership Conference was an incredible time filled with encouraging speakers, music, fellowship and conversation. Check out some memorable moments. In India, 800,000 people have been reached through more than 23,000 Alpha courses. Across the border in China,we are seeing an outstanding response to The Marriage Course, with approximately 800,000 copies of The Marriage Book in distribution.
In the Middle East There is a 33 percent increase in the number of Alpha courses, with 220 churches and organizations running Alpha in Egypt alone.

As a church body, Christ calls us to love others and build relationships, especially with those outside the church. Mark 16:15 says,”Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (NIV). It is a part of discipleship practice.

How?

We must be intentional about building relationships with those around us at work, in our neighborhood, at school or at sporting events. The Lord calls us to be disciples. Part of discipleship is living our lives witnessing to those around us. Yet it is important to build friendships that allow for opportunities to share about Jesus Christ.
What is THE BIG VISION? We want to see:
Why? According to Barna research, in 2012, only 4 percent of unchurched adults were invited to church by a friend and actually went, 23 percent were invited but declined, and 73 percent were never invited at all. * Our desire is that everyone is given an opportunity to hear about a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, Barna research illustrates that Christ followers are not sharing this opportunity with others.
When the time is right, invite those whom God has placed around you to an Alpha introductory dinner. If we are living boldly every day and establishing natural friendships, over time we will be able to have genuine conversations and therefore extend genuine invitations.
What can YOU do? One for One: We challenge you to invite ONE person to ONE night of Alpha. You can do it!
Other ways to get involved: Pray for God’s kingdom to come. Give to the ongoing mission of Alpha. Serve in a variety of ways by volunteering and supporting Alpha in your church or community. To find out more about ways to get involved, go to alphausa.org/getinvolved

Looking Ahead: 2013
We Thank You! Dear Friends, Luke 10:2 says, “He told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field’” (NIV). I love this verse because though it was written long ago, it continues to speak to our culture today. We truly believe in the call of this verse, to reach those who do not yet know Jesus. You’ve just read about the amazing growth in Alpha, but this is only made possible by God’s great blessing that comes from private, individual giving.
Alpha is Effective, Efficient and Expanding — but we need your help. Regional and specialty teams, such as Alpha Chicago or Alpha for Latinos, are all self-funded. Each will typically have a director, whose expenses include staff costs, travel, promotion and infrastructure. The Central Support Team (CST) exists to support the regional and specialty teams in IT, marketing, finance, HR, publishing and training. Although we have grown by more than 400 percent in the last five years, the CST has remained flat, at approximately 22 staff members. Thank you to all who have embraced this call to work in the harvest with Alpha USA and already support us.
