FROM THE EDITOR Dear Sisters, Springtime has always been special to me. As the world outside begins to bloom, there is a sense of renewal—a reminder that we are constantly evolving while remaining rooted in the same soil. This year, the season feels particularly significant. As we step into the springtime, Alpha Sigma Alpha approaches closer to celebrating a monumental milestone - 125 years of sisterhood.

With our founding anniversary approaching, I find myself wondering if our founders, Virginia, Juliette, Calva, Louise and Mary, could have imagined what their small circle would grow into. In 1901, “communication” meant handwritten notes and the slow delivery of those notes. Now, our connection is instantaneous, spanning across digital platforms and reaching sisters in every corner of the country and even beyond.

Yet, as I read through past editions of the Phoenix, even those dating back to its early days as The Aegis, I was struck by a realization: while the methods of our sisterhood have changed, the heart remains untouched.

Those letters share the same sentiments we have today. They speak of the comfort found in a sister’s encouragement, the growth that comes from leadership and the intentionality of living a life that elevates the influence of women.

NATIONAL Alpha Sigma Alpha sisterhood is for a lifetime. Alumnae are connected to generations of sisters who are there to support and encourage each other. One important way alumnae can continue to support AΣA sisters is by paying the annual national alumnae dues of $35.

National alumnae dues can be paid online at MyAΣA or by sending a check to Alpha Sigma Alpha National Headquarters (9002 Vincennes Circle Indianapolis, IN 46268). Recurring payment options are available and the national alumnae dues is charged each year in June.

Open Volunteer Opportunities The Alpha Sigma Alpha Alumnae Book Club connects members with a shared love of reading. The alumnae book club includes four book selections with discussion on Zoom each year. To participate, members must request to join the “Alpha Sigma Alpha Alumnae Book Club” Facebook group.

I love while guiding young women through their own journeys. It is a joy to show them that involvement is lifelong. I have developed such deep connections with these women; when they text me with life updates or chapter wins, I feel truly valued and grateful to be a part of their story.

preciation SHARON MANZO, BΣ Beta Pi Faculty Advisor, 1978 – current It’s 1969, BΣ in hand, and a marriage two days later, I thought sorority life ended with college graduation.

Fast forward nine years. My husband completed his Ph.D. and accepted a job at Concord College. We moved to Athens, WV. Driving into Athens, there was a hill on which several Greek letters were displayed, and AΣA was among them. What, MY sorority is here? When the Beta Pi advisor left Concord, I was asked if I would take the role. Of course - I said yes. In the beginning, I had very little idea of what I was doing. I wasn’t a collegian anymore; I was the adult in the room.

I stayed for many years as chapter/ campus advisor and hit a wall where I thought it was time for a younger woman to take over.

This didn’t last long. When I was approached by the president at

the time, saying they could not find an advisor, I stepped up again.

What impact have I had? I only hope it’s been positive. I have ended my advisor report every meeting since the ‘80s with an “advisorism” - some funny, some meaningful and all heartfelt. This is one thing sisters have always seemed to love. Hopefully, inviting sisters into my home, laughing and crying with them, supporting them and sometimes showing tough love have been memorable aspects of my time as an advisor.

Advice I have for a new volunteer the chapter today may not be the chapter of your day. Respect and embrace the changes, share some things about your time in the sun, but don’t dwell on your past. Love and respect all members; each is unique and each has good. Being an advisor can be very rewarding, and sisterhood lasts a lifetime; it doesn’t end with graduation.

The vibrant history of Alpha Sigma Alpha is written by volunteers, and the Sorority continues to thrive thanks to the dedication of our many volunteers. Like the women featured in this issue, volunteers turn a spark of interest into a legacy.

AΣA success depends on members stepping up to guide the next generation.

Whether you have a few hours a month or a few days a year, your 'now' could be the start of a lifelong impact.

The National Convention & Leadership Conference is Alpha Sigma Alpha’s biennial event where members gather to conduct sorority business and to celebrate a sisterhood focused on elevating women.

As Alpha Sigma Alpha prepares for a historic 125th Anniversary celebration in Richmond, VA, (RVA), these three members tell us why this is a milestone event you won’t want to miss!

what is unique about being an Alpha Chapter member? I think the most unique part of being a member of Alpha Chapter is the connection we feel to our chapter’s history all around us! Knowing that I had the privilege to stay in the same dormitories, attend the same classes and participate in the same campus events as our founders makes me feel deeply connected to our chapter. It reminds me of the values and sisterhood our founders must have felt on campus during their time as students. I hope as members celebrate at Longwood; they also feel the same culture that inspired our founders’ values and created our beautiful sisterhood.

As members visit your campus, what piece of Alpha Sigma Alpha history

do you think is most important for them to see? I highly recommend that members take a moment to see our memorial bench and birdbath outside of Stubbs residence hall and the Alpha Chapter clock located in front of the Greenwood Library. These landmarks serve not only as reminders of Alpha Sigma Alpha but are also a nod to the strong panhellenic community that has always existed at the university.

What is your favorite spot on campus for photos? I love taking photos with chapter members at the front doors of Stubbs Residence Hall, the all-sorority dormitory on campus. It’s a beautiful building with bright lighting that carries the buzzing energy of sorority women all around it!

Why do you think Richmond, VA, is a great host city for the national convention & leadership conference?

What better place to host than the closest major city where it all started for AΣA at Longwood! There is fun, shopping, food, history and adventure.

Sisters can extend their time and head to the mountains, the beach or even our nation's capital if they are interested. All of these are within a couple of hours of RVA.

Do you have any tips and tricks for someone attending convention for the first time? I recommend coordinating with roommates (if you have them). Find a handful of sisters to ride together from the airport - (by the way I have a nine-passenger luxury van, and I am happy to shuttle). A lot of the ladies also like to wear AΣA colors, themes and symbols to coordinate their outfits - that is always fun.

Dress up, down or however you feel most comfortable. There is always a variety of attire.

What are you most looking forward to as Alpha Sigma Alpha celebrates its 125th anniversary at convention this year? I am excited to learn more about the future of the Sorority - not just where we came from, but where we are going.

What is your favorite convention memory? My favorite memory was being in a workshop at my first convention in Baltimore in 2022 and realizing how the AΣA aims are still so special to me, 20 years

Exhilarating, amazing, inspiring, thrilling, incredible…all these words come to mind when I think on the fact that our beloved Sorority is celebrating this milestone anniversary. 125 years!

Whoa. I think of all the world events, the good times, the hard times, the inventions, the changes that our organization has witnessed and experienced.

And we not only made it through; but we also have thrived! It took grit, perseverance, dedication

Do you have any tips and tricks for someone attending convention for the first time? Tip #1 - be yourself.

Smile and soak it in! Tip #2 - be bold. Step out of your comfort zone.

Be prepared to meet lots of new people and make friends from all over the country and from different generations and backgrounds. Tip #3 - be inspired.

There are so many opportunities for learning and growth.

What is your favorite convention memory? As a collegian, I lived in this bubble of goodness, surrounded by my best friends and really had no concept of our organization being so much bigger…until I went to my first convention in Chicago, 1982. I loved meeting women from other chapters.

I remember the national council did a skit where they were sitting around a table playing cards and told funny embarrassing stories about themselves.

I fell in love with their humility and humor. I wanted to be just like them!

That was the exact moment that I decided I wanted my membership to be so much more than the collegiate experience. I wanted my membership to count for a lifetime, to volunteer, to serve and to always be present.

Because I AM an Alpha Sigma Alpha.

As a transfer student, I joined Alpha Sigma Alpha as a junior.

I credit the literal first steps I took towards my dream job to an advisor - Mathilda Hatfield. Through Mathilda’s encouragement, I stepped out of my comfort zone one afternoon and introduced myself to a news reporter. Being bold led to an internship, which led to a job, which led to creating a lifestyle show, Good Morning Arkansas, which led to the dream of becoming a reporter and finally a news anchor. Leveraging my contacts and relationships, I spent over two decades in news.

Winning several awards including an EMMY (a moment of a lifetime)!

While officially out of the business, I was called upon to fill in at a news channel in town.

As most would agree, the journey through life is not a linear one.

The common throughline for me has always been clear: Aspire, Seek, Attain. From becoming an award-winning journalist to a C-Suite executive, to founder of my own company (Memorable Results Media) and even a speaker, it was through Alpha Sig and the entire collegiate experience that I developed a deep appreciation for communication.

Serving Beta Lambda Chapter as its philanthropy chairman and parliamentarian gave me the capacity to explore and

strengthen my love of speaking and giving back to my community, two characteristics I embody today.

Are you a Gen-Zer who is concerned about getting a job after graduation? Or a business professional looking to enhance your communication skills?

Recently, the University of Central Arkansas invited me to speak to Greek Life student leaders. I developed a candid conversation on networking and bridging the gap between collegiate leadership roles and the job market, a topic that I have spoken about on podcasts and at other universities.

For Gen-Z who are aspiring and seeking that next opportunity post-graduation, I offer insight on how to identify and communicate your leadership experience in a meaningful way on job applications and resumes. I used an example of a chapter vice president of finance to illustrate my point. Instead of simply listing that officer role, use whitespace to expand what was involved in that role, such as overseeing a six-figure budget, overseeing the financial health of the chapter, providing financial reports and reducing costs. Those are realworld characteristics an employer is looking for.

Walking into a professional environment, not knowing anyone, can be uncomfortable at any age. I take a fresh approach to thinking of networking in terms of recruitment. Relationships are built with potential new members during recruitment.

Similarly, networking is built upon relationships with new contacts, future colleagues and potential business connections. Through that lens, networking seems less intimidating. It is through our own network that we can yield fresh opportunities and unlock new doors.

Collegians who did not hold an elected position are encouraged to still use their sorority experience to their advantage. Recruitment = networking. Organized an impromptu spirit night = event planning. Represent your chapter on campus = brand representation/brand ambassador. Assisted in handling a crisis moment = skills around awareness and potentially crisis management.

communication skills, interpersonal skills are what define leaders. The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and through body language, listen, demonstrate empathy and work well with a team is the currency for getting hired and a promotion. Confident communication and people skills are paramount in our everevolving world. Connecting on a human level is the future.

Regardless of whether you are a business professional or looking for that first job, you can attain the dreams you aspire to and seek in your heart. It is yours for the taking. Reach out for the support of fellow Alpha Sigma Alpha alumnae. We will gladly be a resource for you.

As women of poise and purpose, it is critical now more than ever to have strong communication skills. Employers are more interested in communication and presence than in GPA. A 2024 article by Forbes noted that a quarter of executives will not hire Gen-Z due Michelle with her EMMY for winning to their lack of soft skills, a Best Evening Newscast. statistic that has to change.

TARYN GOLLING JAMES, ΘY Volunteering has always been something I have done since I was a little kid. I think it started by helping my grandma with her events, setting up, cleaning up, serving food, etc. I wasn’t someone who even realized I was spending a lot of time volunteering, I just was. I volunteered in my school library in elementary school, I continued to help my grandmother as I went through middle and high school and in college I loved finding new ways to get volunteer hours. It all started with AΣA. After traveling for a year as a leadership consultant for Alpha Sigma Alpha, I knew I wanted to become a national volunteer, which has led me to be a recruitment leader, a community college task force co-chair and now a region facilitator. Volunteering for AΣA brings me joy and allows me to stay connected to the organization that has given me so much. After consulting, to make friends as an adult in a new city, I joined The Junior League of Kansas City, which I always said was like a post-college sorority (with even more service).

In my professional life I work at Rockhurst University, MO, where providing service and volunteering is the standard. Everyone at Rockhurst has a servant's heart, and it is something that everyone does across campus. I work with student organizations and almost every organization has some sort of service component to them. We start orientation with a large service project where every orientation team goes to a different location across Kansas City, and it truly sets the tone for the year and connects us to our local community. I think one of my favorite parts about volunteering and watching students volunteer is the change you can see happening immediately. When we help those around us in our community, you can see the immediate impact you are making, which makes you want to do more.

Before I became a leadership consultant, I knew I wanted to work in higher education.

Traveling to a new college every week only solidified my want and drive to pursue that goal.

I learned a lot about what kind of school and town I wanted to live in from my travels and I was able to connect with students and see what issues they were facing. I used my downtime

As I said before, I knew I wanted to volunteer after I was done consulting and I was able to help a few schools in my area with recruitment, including my grad school chapter. Shout out to the Zeta Zeta Chapter and the Beta Sigma Chapter and all the cool gals I met there in 2016.

After grad school, I began working at Rockhurst University and have been there ever since. I have had four different positions and now work as the director of student life. I know I wouldn’t be in this position if I hadn’t had the experience of joining AΣA, working as a consultant, volunteering and continuing to better myself as I have grown further from my collegiate years.

Alpha Sigma Alpha’s eight core values are something that have stuck with me since I was a collegian learning them, teaching them as a consultant and now I use them as a volunteer and in my day-to-day life. I have always said my favorite core value is balance, and the reason is because I think it best encapsulates how I try to live my life. I am constantly trying to find balance day-to-day. I am a mom of an almost two-yearold, pregnant with another baby girl, I have a full-time job that is super busy and I care deeply about all my relationships and making time for them. I also spend time volunteering as a region facilitator and try to find small in-person service activities when I can. It is a lot! Striving to find balance where I can helps me keep it all together. I am thankful to AΣA for providing me with the skills to create balance in my life.

A Shared Sisterhood Across the Decades Written by: Marianne Busch Bullock, BΘ & Olivia Dziachan, BΘ

Though Marianne and Olivia joined the Beta Theta Chapter at Central Michigan University nearly 50 years apart, they quickly discovered that time hasn’t changed the heart of their experience. Despite the evolving landscape of campus life, these two sisters share a bond that transcends the calendar. From then to now, we asked both sisters the same questions to compare their collegiate journeys—and the results show that some things truly are timeless.

Share your story!

Marianne: Encouraged and influenced by my roommate and friends, I joined the Beta Theta Chapter. I felt I had found a home away from home that was a place to learn and grow. As a Beta Theta I had the opportunity to serve as chapter editor. I studied business at CMU and received my bachelor’s degree in 1978 which provided an early foundation for a lengthy career in sales and marketing and a love for lifelong learning.

Olivia: I joined Alpha Sigma Alpha because I wanted to get involved on campus. I was quite lonely when I first came to college, so I decided to take action and find a group of girls I knew I could rely on. I am currently the president of the Beta Theta Chapter, and it is my first official role in the chapter.

I am studying secondary education social studies.

What is your favorite memory from your time at Beta Theta?

Marianne: My favorite memory from my time at Beta Theta was Greek Week. At the time, Beta Theta was a small chapter compared to other groups on campus, but we participated in every activity and had enthusiasm to burn.

Olivia: My favorite memory from my time so far at Beta Theta has been recruitment. Not only did it give me the chance to improve my skills in communicating with strangers, but it also provided me with the opportunity to learn more about my sisters.

Practicing conversations with potential new members led me to have deep, meaningful conversations with sisters who I may not have had otherwise.

Recruitment gave us a common objective—showing off our

sisterhood and what sets AΣA apart from other chapters—it allowed us all to bond in an unexplainable way.

What is your favorite thing to do on campus at Central Michigan University?

Marianne: My favorite place on campus at Central Michigan University was the union. All the Greek groups had a section of the cafeteria where we got together and visited with chapter sisters, and the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC)/Interfraternity Council (IFC) groups.

Olivia: My favorite thing to do on campus is explore by choosing a new spot to study every week.

There are so many hidden gems on campus, and I discover really cool places just by exploring.

What advice would you share with incoming members?

Marianne: Incoming members may feel overwhelmed at times juggling sorority life, classes,

family responsibilities and potentially job requirements.

Good time management is key! Focus on your classes but remember that attending a wonderful university like CMU will give you social and service opportunities that enhance all that book learning.

used a phone tree to connect with each other. Today the Beta Theta alumnae from that era use Facebook Messenger daily.

Olivia: Almost everything is online! We have a calendar app that has all the chapter events for the semester with information members may need.

The members of Beta Theta also have weekly chapter meetings in-person where we keep digital meeting minutes so members can go back and see what important information was shared.

If you had to describe this chapter’s "personality" in three words, what would they be?

Marianne: In the mid to late seventies it was “full of heart.”

Olivia: Caring, outgoing and dedicated.

Olivia: I would advise incoming members to be open! There is so much happening all at once— meeting new people, classes, school, sorority events, etc.—and it can be very overwhelming.

Women may be scared to say yes, or to be fully welcomed to the ideas because they are new. But I find that not being afraid to say yes was extremely helpful for me to find my place, both on campus and in the sorority.

Tech Check: How do sisters communicate about upcoming events?

Marianne: Communication has changed dramatically in 50 years! Announcements about upcoming events were made at weekly meetings and we also

What is the most important skill you learned from your time in the Beta Theta Chapter?

Marianne: The most important skill I learned from my time in the Beta Theta Chapter was working in and leading teams.

Chapter membership requires strong communication skills, an ability to facilitate discussions and become comfortable with public speaking. It is a safe environment to enhance these skills which are invaluable in life as a businessperson, volunteer and family member.

Olivia: I think the most important skill I have learned through my time in the Beta Theta Chapter would be leadership. There are opportunities for leadership everywhere in the Sorority.

Whether it be holding a position, joining the standards board or even proxying for a position holder, members can learn and

take chances to become better leaders.

What is one piece of advice you’d give your collegiate self today?

Marianne: One piece of advice I would give my collegiate self today is to continue to say “yes” to Alpha Sigma Alpha. You will be amazed at the places it takes you and the important relationships you develop during your lifelong membership.

What is one thing you hope to take with you after graduation?

Olivia: One thing I hope to take with me is being able to find the good moments in the hard times.

Being in a sorority can be stressful at times, but these girls find a way to find the good in all situations.

That optimism has taught me how to excel during stressful times, and I hope I maintain that skill well into my teaching career and life overall!

Officer Academy 2026

Alpha Sigma Alpha’s Officer Academy was held in Indianapolis, IN, Jan. 16-18, 2026. Throughout this weekend, newly elected vice presidents of education and vice presidents of recruitment came together to dive deeper into the necessary skills of their roles in large groups, small group cohorts and elective programming.

Bonny Shade, from Bonny Shade Speaks LLC, kicked off the experience with her “Better Sisterhood = Better Recruitment!” keynote, covering the essentials of sisterhood required to recruit and retain new members.

National headquarters staff members led workshops for officers to learn strategies and tools to grow their chapters, as well as techniques for increasing chapter retention for new and initiated members. These workshops included basics of each officer role, road mapping each semester and recruiting with core values.

Elective workshops emphasized the importance of recruitment preparation and recruitment teams for the vice presidents of recruitment and senior membership and a sense of belonging for the vice presidents of education.

Attendees were also able to elevate their chapter’s online presence with a “Marketing Crash Course."

To conclude this programming, a case study competition was held for attendees to apply what they had learned.

These allowed members to dive deeper into cultivating inclusive environments and growing chapter membership from an unbiased perspective. Chapters worked together

Alpha Sigma Alpha has always been shaped by the women who love the Sorority and believe in its future. A strong strategic plan helps to focus organizational efforts in a meaningful way. As we look ahead to the 2026–28 biennium, national council has developed a strategic plan rooted in intentional membership growth that will work to sustain our sisterhood for generations to come. This plan is not a checklist or a finish line. Instead, it is a living cycle where each focus area strengthens the next and every member plays a role in Alpha Sigma Alpha’s success.

We begin by embracing and sharing who we truly are.

Alpha Sigma Alpha is a purposebuilt, resilient organization and our story deserves to be told authentically. By promoting our unique identity and implementing marketing that challenges longheld stereotypes, we ensure that potential members see the real Alpha Sigma Alpha: an organization grounded in values, connection and impact. 2026-28 NATIONAL COUNCIL SLATE The nominating committee is pleased to present the 2026-28 national council slate. The creation of this slate involved many hours of thorough and thoughtful preparation and collective discernment.

The committee began its work in late summer 2025 engaging in training to ensure a shared understanding of the role of national council, the governance responsibilities entrusted to its members and the strategic needs of the Sorority for the upcoming biennium and beyond.

Candidates were interviewed, and each virtual interview was scheduled for one hour and was conducted with the full committee present.

Questions were experience and behavior-based, and designed to assess governance readiness, strategic thinking, fiduciary responsibility and alignment with the long-term needs of the Sorority.

Following interviews, committee members again evaluated candidates individually before engaging in structured deliberations. The final slate was developed through intentional discussion focused on both individual strengths and the collective composition of the board.

The committee’s task was both meaningful and challenging. The committee is confident that this process has yielded a strong, balanced and governance-ready national council slate to lead Alpha Sigma Alpha into its next biennium.

NICOLE MILLAR ALLBEE, PH.D., ZT Nicole Millar Allbee holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership and a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs leadership, both from Western Michigan University. Her undergraduate degree in psychology is from Grand Valley State University, MI. Nicole holds professional certifications in conflict resolution, behavioral intervention best practices, equitable and inclusive practices and Lean Six Sigma, among others. As an alumna, Nicole founded the Southwest Michigan Alumnae Association.

Nicole currently serves as the chief of staff at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine where she is responsible for providing strategic counsel to the dean, president and CEO, serves as the liaison to the board of directors and fosters collaboration across the institution. Previously, Nicole held student affairs roles at Western Michigan University, gaining experience in policy development, communications and fraternity and sorority administration. In addition to her professional career, Nicole has supported Alpha Sigma Alpha through service as national vice president, region facilitator, risk management project team leader, advisor and contributor to extension efforts, District Day, the Academy and LDI. Nicole brings strong expertise in strategy development, demonstrated by leading the 202426 national council through the strategic planning process for the upcoming biennium. She also offers a proven track record in higher education, which supports the board’s work in membership engagement and leadership development.

KATHARINE WILSON BURKE, NN Katharine “Kathy” Wilson Burke graduated from Drexel University, PA, with a bachelor’s degree in business. Kathy later earned a master’s degree in business from the University of Maryland.

As an alumna, Kathy is an active member of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter.

Professionally, Kathy retired as the chief operating officer and vice president, finance at CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, a national nonprofit which funds pediatric cancer research where she provided dayto-day operational leadership. Prior to CureSearch she worked in a variety of roles that provided a diverse background in technical support, operations, facilities, systems and management consulting and training. In addition to her professional career, Kathy has supported Alpha Sigma Alpha through service as an AΣA Foundation trustee and treasurer and as national council vice president and treasurer. Additionally, she has presented at the Academy, facilitated at multiple Emma Coleman Frost Leadership Development Institutes (LDI) and participated in various task forces and committees.

Kathy brings strong expertise in critical thinking and decisiveness demonstrated through her managerial and executive career roles and serving as a board member for several different nonprofit organizations.

She also offers a proven ability in strategic planning, which supports the board’s work in governance, strategy, financial oversight and leadership development.

DEBORAH FIELDS DIETRICH, BN Deborah “Deb” Fields Dietrich, graduated from Murray State University, KY, with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Deb holds professional certifications/ designations including the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation and Florida State Life and Health Insurance licenses.

As an alumna, Deb has been an active member of the Tampa Bay Alumnae Chapter.

Deb currently serves as Mercedes/AMG Recall Coordinator at Crown Automotive Group, where she is responsible for the MB Connect program which monitors vehicle health to enhance client safety and engagement. Previously, Deb has held the role of representative and/or consultant at various firms within the health insurance and financial planning sectors, gaining experience in sales and leadership development.

In addition to her professional career, Deb has supported Alpha Sigma Alpha through service as an AΣA Foundation trustee, district facilitator and chapter advisor, contributing to national organizational growth and collegiate support.

Deb brings strong expertise in financial oversight, demonstrated through nearly 30 years of service as a trustee for the City of Largo General Employees’ Pension Board, overseeing a $72 million portfolio.

She also offers a proven ability in governance, which supports the board’s work in leadership development and strategy.

Caélee Gibbs Lehman graduated from Emporia State University, KS, with a bachelor’s degree in communication. Caélee later earned a master’s degree in college student development from Kansas State University and is a doctoral candidate in student affairs at Kansas State University. As an alumna, Caélee has been an active member of the Nebraska-Iowa Alumnae Chapter, Topeka Alumnae Chapter and currently the Kansas City Alumnae Chapter.

Rebecca Noell graduated from Grand Valley State University, MI with a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies.

Rebecca later earned a master’s degree in higher education student affairs from Eastern Michigan University and holds a graduate certification in academic advising. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University, CA, where her research explores women in leadership, imposter syndrome, burnout and the power of connection. As an alumna, Rebecca has been an active member of the Southeastern Michigan Alumnae Chapter.

CAÉLEE GIBBS LEHMAN, EE

Caélee currently serves as the curriculum redesign project manager at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, where she is responsible for the day-to-day project management of a complex, multi-program curriculum overhaul, maintaining alignment among people, processes and priorities through implementation.

Previously, Caélee held the role of assistant director of student affairs at Research College of Nursing, gaining experience in student leadership, organizational advising and housing.

In addition to her professional career, Caélee has supported Alpha Sigma Alpha through service as a member of the board & leadership advancement committee, the NPC delegation, the nominating committee, district and region panhellenic liaison, district recruitment coaching team member, NPC area advisor, leadership roles in Nebraska-Iowa and Topeka Alumnae Chapters, the leader of the community college structure task force and contributor to the NPC measurable outcomes committee building working expertise in panhellenic policies, procedures and processes.

Rebecca currently serves as community standards education & leadership development manager in fraternity & sorority life at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she leads strategic initiatives that cultivate leadership, accountability and belonging within the campus's diverse fraternity and sorority community.

Rebecca's professional portfolio spans student affairs, alumni engagement and wellness education, including previous roles with the University of Michigan Alumni Association, Dean of Students Office and Eastern Michigan University. Her work emphasizes leadership education, critical incident response and holistic student development with a particular focus on women's leadership and values-based community building.

In addition to her professional career, Rebecca has supported Alpha Sigma Alpha through service as an NPC area advisor, alumnae chapter president, support & safety program facilitator, board & leadership advancement committee member, volunteer culture & structure study team member, region 8 finance leader and region 8 social responsibility leader.

Rebecca brings strong expertise in strategic governance, demonstrated in her board service for the Junior League of Ann Arbor. Julie Wiley Ramsey is a graduate of Longwood University, VA, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education with a math specialty. As an engaged alumna, Julie has been an active member of the Tidewater, VA and Farmville, VA Alumnae Chapters.

Nikkia Young graduated from Roanoke College, VA, with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and music. Nikkia holds professional certifications including FinOps Certified Practitioner, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Human Centered Design Practitioner.

As an alumna, Nikkia has been an active member of Richmond City Alumnae Chapter since 2014.

JULIE WILEY RAMSEY, A

Julie currently serves as director of fraternity & sorority life at Longwood University where she advises nine NPC chapters, seven IFC chapters and six NPHC chapters, along with three governing councils, Order of Omega and the Greek for Change organization. In this role, she provides strategic leadership, chapter support and organizational oversight for a dynamic fraternity and sorority community.

Previously, Julie served as program coordinator for Monarch Teach at Old Dominion University, where she gained valuable experience in student advising and budget management.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Julie has remained deeply committed to Alpha Sigma Alpha through volunteer leadership, including prior service on national council and her current role on the Sorority Housing Corporation Board. She brings extensive experience in leadership development, member engagement, governance, strategic planning and financial stewardship.

NIKKIA YOUNG, ΘB

Nikkia currently serves as Senior FinOps Product Owner at a quasi-governmental agency, where she is responsible for leading 600+ end users in their cloud cost management of over 40 applications and services that support the American public.

In addition to her professional career, Nikkia has supported Alpha Sigma Alpha through service as a national vice president, region facilitator, social responsibility leader, district communications liaison, nominating committee member and facilitator for LDI, Academy, District Day and the Support & Safety Program.

Nikkia brings strong expertise in process development and strategy which was demonstrated through her leadership of the development of the alumnae accountability process in her term as national vice president. She also offers extensive experience in member-based nonprofit management, which supports the board’s work in governance, strategy, financial oversight and member engagement.

Today's collegiate women are navigating unprecedented challenges, from rising educational costs to evolving professional demands and intensifying mental health pressures. Yet across our sisterhood, young women are rising to meet these challenges with resilience, purpose and determination.

For 39 years, the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation has stood beside our members, providing educational support and leadership development that elevates their influence in the world.

For Cori Hack, BN, Alpha Sigma Alpha provided more than a collegiate experience; it laid the foundation for a lifetime of leadership in healthcare.

"My experience with Alpha Sigma Alpha was truly transformative during my undergraduate years, laying the foundation for me to become a woman of poise and purpose," shares Cori, now a first-semester doctoral student in the Doctor of Nurse Practice - Nurse Anesthesia program and 2025-26 Martha Green Dimond Scholarship recipient.

experiences that continue to shape her career today.

"They taught me to not just lead, but to serve with purpose and understanding," Cori explains. "In nursing, I apply the lessons of communication, leadership and responsibility every day, from managing patient care to mentoring younger nurses." When we support one member's education, we are investing in the patients she will serve, the communities she will strengthen, the younger members she will mentor and the legacy of leadership she will build.

As Cori reminds members and donors: "Your support empowers me to pursue my passions...

I hope to pay it forward by continuing to uplift others just as you have uplifted me."

Featuring: Founder Calva Hamlet Watson Wootton, A

Calva Hamlet Watson, A, was born in Woodland in Nottaway County, VA on Sept. 24, 1886. During her student days she claimed Jennings Ordinary, VA, as her hometown. Calva was the efficient member of the five founders. She led Alpha Chapter in scholastic achievement and served as historian and secretary. She looked younger than her classmates and, despite her quiet demeanor, participated in the campus literary societies and language clubs.

Calva was among those signing the charter for incorporation on Feb. 13, 1903. She graduated from the State Female Normal School in 1904. In 1917 she married Percy W. Wootton and spent the remainder of her life in Petersburg, VA. She passed away Aug. 3, 1961, at age 75.
