KIPJCSVILLE The Vlinter Quarter has closed and we ar e enjoying a vacation of quite unusual length, _ By attending school on Saturday and having extra classes, we wBre able to have n early two weeks v a catioa. This arrangement was made, so as to n nable the faculty to at tend this year's meeting of the National Educational Asso ciation in Kan- sas . City. The pos t poned party at the Axis Club was g iven on the afternoon of February third , It \18.s quite informa l a n d followed the pledge servi~e directly . ~e danced and play ed cards . Eve ry one seemed to have a good tim e and our girls seemed to have a lot of 'pep' consider"::mg that a numb e r of them h ad been to five clances that week and intended to finish the day with another one in the evening . Our big social aff~ir was the Valentine Dansante gi ven on February ninth. MIAMI · The time for · Alpha Alpha 1 s qig dance is approaching rapidly, a.nd we are all just as busy as bees trying to make it quite the be·st dance the Chapter has ever given, or that has ever been given by any sorority in our Normal College·. We had planned to have it at ''Bishop", one of our residence halls, but we nave just lear .1e d that· the new Auditorium of the Normal College .will be ready in time, so we are to have it there. We are overjoyed at the prospect, because the Auditorium is so much more spacious than anything else we ecuid get in town, and will mean plenty of room for dancing . For deeorations we are limiting ourselves to the use of green and white. This will allow us to use a profusion of ferns . Our programs are to bring out another colcr of ASA, for a.nd .palms. the white folder is· to be tied with yellow cord . The favors are to be bronze mateh boxes with the ASA coat-of-arms on the cover . For music we have secured a Cincinnati orchestra, the same that . was brought over for the Junior Prom 1 so you can gue ss that we shall have something good in the musical line . The orehestra consists of piano, d~ums, bells and saxophone. We had expected by this time to b e able to writ e you more . · particularly about conditions at the Normal College located in Athens. We had all our plans made to send over t wo girls on the 22nd of February, but just before t hey started a telegr am was received stating that matters were not f ar enough advan~ed to make it pay to go to Athens. The present -plan is for the girls to go on March 2nd and to remain until March 4th. w?lte crepe paper and read hearts were the materialtaed . . The 1:-ghts were sh~ded in red, · and red hearts n ere h ung from the qhandel_l~:·s and ceil1ng. Punch was served between· dances from a red and wg~~e booth. At the end of the tenth dance five high school girls, all dressed in -. -.,h~. te ;· served ice cream in t he f orm of red hearts and little iced cakes in t ho shape ot' our pin on ,-hich were the Sorority letters in r e d . . The pro~rams were exqu~ si te ,-white leather card cases :with the Sorority letter in gold and with gold coz:-d holding the dance orders :1 place . .After each dance on t~e pro~ gram was a girl's name, nith her characteristic saying . This was · the cause of much mirth, as the girls knew oothing about it before- · hand. Our out-of-to~vn guests were from severa l or the colleges . in the Sta:te. The ngricul tura.l School was particularly well repre- . sented. She h a s accepted a position in the training school of the Durent Normal School . She will be the supervisor of the fifth and sixth grades. Tie h ave always been very proud of Clara and nmv we are even more so . For t wo years she has been the seventh grade fello w under Miss Green, our _Faculty Adviser. For the past year she has b een Pr esi dent of Y. W. C.A . We gave Clara a farewell party last .week , at whi ch all t he patronesses were present. Y.W. gave a memb ership banque t r e cently . It was held in the gymnasium, which was transform.ed in to a be au t i f ul J apane s e garden . Lanterns, incensa sticks , together with p a ras~l s of every conceivable hue, produced a really wonde rfu~ ef fe ct . We a:ll went avmy from the meeting with a n ew determination to "Aspire, Seek, Attain". There has been quite a little excitement in School and Town recently. It has been finally decided that our insitution is to adva~ce to the rank of a Teachers College . You ma y r ememb er that a th~rd year was added this present school session . Now another is to be offered next year, and equipped 1.v:i th the four year course , we shall ~ank as a Teachers College . There is only one other of that ra.nk in the South, Peabody Teachers College , affiliated with Vanderbil ty University in Nashville, Term. We are no end proud of· the honor that is to come to our Alma Mater. .Another exciting thing was the return of the Farmville boys from the border . The tovn1 turned out to do them honor, when it vias known that the spe cial train wa s about to arrive. The Pittsburgh Association met on February 17th at the home of E~ea~or Lowry. The principal thing of inte rest was the Speci a l Init1.at1on, held under Council grant for Mrs. Habel HcLaughlin Cox, a. former member of the local that became Alpha Gamma Chapter . Xt was some little time since any of the Pittsburgh l>SAs had been present at an initiation, and so the Services held much of interest for those \\tho had been initiated at Schooj_. · Mary Neely, last year Chapt~r President, was just back from a visit to the active Chapter, and there was much that she could tell of school news, the things that do not get into letters, but whi ch are always so very interesting. There was some discussion of wha t we could do about the Life Subscription plan. The cup went to the Delta Zeta group . · THE KANSAS CITY ASSOCIATION The February Meeting was ' held on the 22nd at the home of Mrs. Kellogg, meeting with Miss .~.\nderson. Nearly of the members we re able to be present~ and we also had with us our very younges t honorary member, Frederl.ck La·;vrence Schmitt, Jr . the seven weeks old son of Allene Osenbaugh Schmitt. There was a special ce.lled meeting a week later, also at Mrs. Kellogg's to greet Miss Ida Jewett, who was in t~e city to attend the meetings of the National Educational h SSOciatJ.on · Mrs. Jessie Stephens Vialker of Chicago surprised us very pleasantly by being present also. It was a great pleasure to hear about the ne.rrensburg grou p that Miss Jewett had visited, as wel l as to learn much of interest about our home Chapter. Mabel Anderson . Pri or to her initiation into Alpha Beta Chapter, Edith Gamble had attended Stephens College, Columbia, Mo . , where in 1 91 1 she became a membe r of .the Stephens Chapter of Beta Sigma Omicron. Edith was graduated in 19~4 with the degree of A.A. Beta Sigma Omicron is a Junior College Sorority of considerabl e age and of great prestige in the State of Missouri, so Edith had considerabl e experience in sorority life before joining ASA. She has always been intensely interested in the system and has be en anxious to give her time to sorority wor k.
