, d e k s a . d You e r e v i we del Making Better Men

for a Lifetime - The theme of this year’s Growth Report. Indeed, we all heard many stories from AGR alumni over the years that their AGR experience was vital to their personal and professional success. A recent survey of over 600 AGR alumni and collegiate members indicated that Leadership Development, Career Development, Training for Personal Excellence, Chapter Scholarships and Training for Chapter Excellence should be the top funding priorities for the Foundation… ALL key components for Making Better Men for a Lifetime. As a result of your generous contributions to Your Foundation, we are having significant impact! Your unrestricted contributions to the annual Loyalty Fund, a record setting $412,416 this year, help to fund Leadership Seminars, Adviser Forums, Housemother/Director training, and Recruitment Schools. Programs funded nationally involved over 534 individuals and directly impact local chapter excellence. In the area of restricted funds, 18 chapters are receiving payouts/scholarships due to donor advised endowments and 161 individual collegiate members received scholarships/grants from either endowment or general funds. Additionally, there are 14 Chapter Assistance/house improvement projects currently active. Just think of how much more we could achieve together with even greater participation! Whether your gifts were to the Loyalty Fund, a Chapter Assistance Program, other donor designated fund or a qualifying Heritage Club legacy gift, THANK YOU for your SUPPORT. THANK YOU for YOUR IMPACT. THANK YOU for helping to MAKE BETTER MEN for a LIFETIME! Fraternally and gratefully,

Glenn A. Stith Chairman The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho

6

Your Foundation

has approximately $6,633,877 invested in designated funds. Nearly all are endowments, meaning, with an approximate 4% annual payout, they will last in perpetuity. Most designated funds are chapter specific; the funds are managed by and used only for the benefit of a chapter. Currently, 25 chapters are using the Foundation’s Chapter Assistance Program for housing campaign projects knowing IRS rules governing tax deductibility of these contributions are strictly observed. AGR brothers serve on the Foundation Investment Committee. We know AGR; we donate to our chapter funds, and take the job to both protect the principle and grow those funds seriously. AGR benefits from professional investment advice, following a rather strict approach to asset allocation. Investment returns over the long term reflect the decision to balance investment risks against returns. Over the past five years, Your Foundation has achieved a 7.28% compound annual return. Thank you for supporting The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho. Fraternally,

Bill Boehm Director & Investment Committee Chair The Educational Foundatoin of Alpha Gamma Rho

Glenn Stith, Chairman of the Foundation, was initiated into Omicron Chapter at the University of Kentucky in 1973. Bill Boehm, Investment Comittee Chair, was initiated into Alpha Psi Chapter at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1968.

e n o D e v ’ e What W Based on feedback

about the Foundation’s operations, a Task Force to Review Restricted Funds was established to evaluate and improve its processes. The Task Force enabled several important procedural changes to the way your Foundation is managed. Going forward, you can be assured of a steady annual payout, approximately 4%. Home Office staff have developed Foundation standard operating procedures such as quarterly reporting and disbursement request procedures which are now in place ensuring accuracy and consistency. Our shared goal is to provide a vehicle to support your chapter better than any other alternative, bar none! To Make Better Men…

for a lifetime.

FEES HAVE BEEN REDUCED AND ARE EASY TO EXPLAIN.

S.O.P. DEFINED AND COMMUNICATIONED.

Put into effect on July 1, 2017, the annual management fee was changed to 1% of the fund balance regardless of size, annualized monthly (1/12 of 1% monthly). The Foundation is maintaining a 2% “gifting fee”, which is a one-time deduction upon receipt of funds into the Foundation. Our research determined this was competitive with the 2-5% range we found many university foundations assessed. Fee income partially offsets overhead including managing the pay-out process, thank you notes, gift recognition and tax-receipting. Fee income also allows us to offer tools and resources such as our fundraising platform, GiveBox, etc., that chapters and alumni can utilize to raise funds.

The Home Office staff, with Board oversight, has made changes to administrative processes and developed standard operating procedures to make the Foundation’s communications and work with donors, alumni corporations, and chapters more consistent. At the end of each quarter, standardized reports on each fund are sent to each Fund Adviser. These include fiscal details to help the Fund Advisory Committees track both principal and spendable funds. The Foundation also has implemented use of a formal disbursement request form for scholarship and reimbursement requests to ensure accuracy and efficiency. More standard operating procedures will be developed and implemented throughout the upcoming year.

MORE CONSISTANT PAY-OUTS FOR YOU. Your Foundation has adopted changes to the pay-out process which is permitted by the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA). The pay-out process will now be consistent with processes used by many university and Greek foundations. Each year, the Board of Directors for The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho will review the markets and portfolio performance to declare a pay-out percentage for all restricted funds. The pay-out for the fiscal year 2017-18 was 4%, which was allocated quarterly (1% each quarter). Future annual pay-outs will be in the range of 3-5% with the pay-out for fiscal year 2018-19 at 4%.

PAYOUT ALLOCATED QUARTERLY 1% EACH QUARTER

for a lifetime

A Lifetime -

What it seems former Alpha Gamma Rho CEO Phil Josephson has dedicated to the Fraternity. Brother Josephson has devoted over 45 years of servitude to AGR, and continues to volunteer as a lifelong leader for the Fraternity. After 45 years, it’s hard to believe AGR wasn’t always in the plans for Phil. In 1970, while he was attending college at Wisconsin-River Falls, Phil disassociated himself with what would become much of his life’s work. In the process of rushing during his freshman year, he found the pledging situations on campus did not match his values, or those he felt a fraternity should hold as important. He chose to leave AGR during pledge week, and was surprised when the AGR Chapter President at the time, Bill Bohem, later came to visit him in his dorm. The upperclassman personally asked Phil, a freshman at the time, to give AGR another chance. This intentional act convinced Phil to continue with the fraternity, under the condition that the inappropriate pledging activities would no longer occur. Before he had even become a full member of the Fraternity, Phil was unknowingly making better men out of his peers. Around 23 years later, that same pledge program was done away with at a national level for AGR, allowing for men like Phil to find a place in a fraternity that truly represents strong values and demonstrates integrity. He did not know it then, but Phil was just starting his long journey of leadership within Alpha Gamma Rho. While he was passionate about the Fraternity and served as an Assistant Treasurer, Rush Chair, and President in his collegiate years, AGR on a national level was never what Phil had planned for his career. In fact, he turned down two job offers from Maynard Coe, the Executive Secretary of Alpha Gamma Rho in the spring of 1972. Josephson was set on attending law school after graduation. But, Brother Coe was persistent, and later sent his assistant, Ted Priebe, to Wisconsin-River Falls to better explain the position to Phil, and convince him it was a great opportunity for new graduates. On Sunday, July 17, 1972, Phil found himself in Des Plaines, Illinois, interviewing with Maynard Coe. That evening he wrote a letter to his girlfriend, Jane —now his wife of over 41 years— and mentioned the interview was “surprisingly and differently genuine.” He closed the letter “I’ll have to wait and see… more interview in the morning.” Sure enough, morning came and Phil was persuaded to start working for Alpha Gamma Rho with his new role as Assistant Executive Director. At the time, he fully believed he would work a few years and be done. As the years went on, it seemed as though AGR was just as passionate about Phil as he was about AGR. Every time he thought he was done, he would be asked to continue in another position. While this was never his plan, his dedication to Alpha Gamma Rho allowed him to find a passion in serving others. He said he enjoyed working with young people and seeing those men grow to be “good citizens, husbands, fathers and grandfathers.” Phil’s values, aside from the AGR Values he reviews almost daily, begin with God and family first. He plans to bring the same ongoing passion for life into his retirement and seeks to spend more time doing what he and his family wants to do. He looks forward to golfing, of course, and reading for his own enjoyment, which includes reaching his goal of reading the entire Bible in one year. “I’m ready for it,” Phil said. “There were many things I loved to do (in my job), but I’m ready to enjoy the little things. I want to do the best for me, my wife, and my family.” 12

Lifelong Leader Gene Lemon

Gene Lemon, an extraordinary leader within Alpha Gamma Rho, died on June 30, 2018, after a brief fight with cancer. During the AGR National Convention in August 2018, a tribute to Gene Lemon was given by Phil Josephson; Brother Josephson and Gene were great friends. “Gene Lemon was a gracious gentleman. He was a role model as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, AGR, and friend,” said Josephson. In 1958, Gene went on to University of Illinois and was initiated into AGR on February 22, 1959. He served as Noble Ruler for Alpha Chapter and also served as a helping hand to Sleeter Bull (while sharing a glass of Sleeter’s favorite bourbon.) Gene served as AGR’s Legal and General Counsel for over 50 years, setting a record in the Greek World. He was elected Grand President in abstentia and re-wrote the AGR National Constitution in 1976-77. He was elected as a Brother of the Century during AGR’s Centennial in 2004 and inducted into AGR’s Hall of Fame. Brother Lemon has been a stalwart at every level. He and Cathie put their money where their thoughts were; Gene Lemon was AGR’s 4th largest donor in history. He was also a huge donor of his business acumen and his rich experiences. For over 50 years, AGR benefited by having Gene share some best business practices that was of great advantage. You would frequently see Gene networking with the undergraduates at conventions and seminars as he also donated his hospitality and humor. He always had time for others and never a negative comment - just a gentleman. “Gene Lemon was a giant in AGR. He was my good friend, and I will miss him. He will be deeply missed by AGR but he would not want us to shed a tear.” said Josephson. “He would want us to move forward with conviction to do the right things.” “May God bless the life and legacy of Gene Lemon.”

AGR CEO REX MARTIN Taking over the reins as AGR’s new CEO, Rex Martin is excited to lead the Fraternity forward into the future. This path forward includes: • Communication – new branding, enhanced communications, and increased external communications; •

Revenue Enhancement - development of innovative partnerships, annual giving, and a new capital campaign;

•

Leadership - elevating existing programs, executive team coordination and career development;

•

Growth - new chapters, stronger chapters, increased chapter membership, and improved alumni/chapter engagement.

The goal is to continue to build on AGR’s strong foundation of developing young men into productive leaders of the agricultural industry - To continue the circle of lasting leadership, and Making Better Men For a Lifetime.

“I’ve enjoyed seeing these young men grow to be good citizens, husbands, fathers and grandfathers.” - PHIL JOSEPHSON

NEW AND IMPROVED AGRconnect serves as an educational tool, helping chapters fulfill Our Purpose of Making Better Men For a Lifetime. In 2018, AGRconnect was updated to be a more effective learning management system. AGRconnect was developed in 2012 through the generous donations of loyal donors and supporters for the purpose of creating an online educational platform for all brothers to utilize. Year after year, implementation and usage of AGRconnect continues to increase and best practices and procedures are being shared among chapters through the online Toolbox function. Over the past year, the Fraternity has engaged The Context Network and Vivayic, both companies familiar to agricultural and related industries as well as education through multiple platforms, to revise and improve AGR’s Brotherhood Program. The project has been divided into various deliverables where the member experience will have greater emphasis on continuous learning from the time a brother is initiated to graduation and beyond. One of the project’s largest components is updating the AGRconnect learning management system (LMS). We heard the suggestions and constructive criticisms from our members about the online educational platform and acted to make improvements. First, and foremost, AGRconnect has become mobile responsive! Members now have the ability to easily access AGRconnect on any mobile device. Brothers can complete modules, utilize their event calendar, review shared documents, search for other officers, and more from their mobile phone. Additionally, the New Member Education module series has been re-developed with updated information and allows for greater independent learning. Alpha Gamma Rho enlisted the help of Monarch Media Inc., a California LMS company, to re-build AGRconnect to meet the needs of our membership. We appreciate all of the time and effort from Monarch to update the platform. The National Fraternity noticed brotherhood mentorship and individual growth were other areas that needed attention. Brothers were seeking ways to enhance their mentorship programming to better guide their newer members. 18

On the updated platform, there is a new space where each member can build an Individual Development Guide to help them grow as leaders. By completing an interactive assessment, each brother can see where their strengths are and develop a plan of action to achieve their goals. This guide includes 12 competencies divided into four categories of Mental, Social, Moral, and Service. Users can personalize their membership experience by honing in on a specific set of skills. In this guide, greater emphasis will be focused on the Big Brother as a mentor, and these mentors will help their Little Brothers on their journey by providing consistent feedback, guidance, and encouragement - helping them to accomplish their goals. Brothers can track progress made on their plan through a dashboard feature hosted on AGRconnect’s homepage. Each member’s action plan can be shared with their mentor as an accountability tool, and members can work together to achieve their individual and chapter goals. Through the recent enhancements, the AGR Home Office will also be able to more efficiently track the progress of members and run additional reports to ensure AGRconnect continues to be a beneficial educational resource. Alpha Gamma Rho is appreciative of all of the hard work The Context Network, Vivayic, Monarch Media, and others have done with the revisions to the Brotherhood Program and AGRconnect. All of the revisions were unveiled during the AGR National Convention in August 2018. Convention attendees were excited for the enhancements to our Fraternity’s lifelong educational program and ready to login!

worked with the Foundation’s Chapter Assistance Program to help with their renovation project. They were able to improve their study areas, dining room, conference room, and more! The chapter dedicated years to this project and will continue Making Better Men For a Lifetime.

CHAPTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The Chapter Assistance Program is offered by The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho to assist alumni corporations in providing educational facilities in major construction or renovation projects for chapters. The Housing funds are short-term, temporary in nature, and focused primarily on major chapter house renovations or construction. Several years ago, Delta Chapter at Purdue University took a hard look at our 31-year-old house and determined it was time to renovate and rejuvenate our beloved facility. Our goal was to design and deliver the most student-centric fraternity facility on the Purdue University campus. We focused our design on creating more group study space, more flexible learning environments, top fiber speed wi-fi, a high-tech conference room, and other amenities that would create a comfortable and functional home for our Delta Chapter brothers. We created larger living spaces for brothers to gather, socialize, and grow their brotherhood. It took several years of planning to benchmark other housing options, consider what existing space was functionally obsolete, and perform feasibility analysis. With the help of Pennington & Company to validate the feasibility of a $2.5 million campaign, we officially launched the fundraising effort and the aggressive construction schedule. Over the course of one summer we completely renovated the entire first floor to honor the heritage of our 107-year-old institution, but also create more functional working and living space. We focused on both the social and professional

aspects of life at Alpha Gamma Rho when we designed 3 conference rooms, an ADA suite, new kitchen layout, new dining room finishes and new study areas incorporated into the parlor. We completely remodeled the second and third floor living spaces with all new walls and room layouts, new restroom finishes, new study rooms, new lounge areas, increased IT functionality, increased library space and all with durable, long lasting finishings. It was an impressive feat to accomplish over 18,000 square feet of renovation in one summer. We moved in 84 members of the Delta Chapter in August, and they were able to showcase the renovated facility on October 20, 2018. We would not have had the confidence to move forward without the support of The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. They were focused on our success and were patient as we moved through the process. The ability for 100% tax deductibility was an important consideration for our alumni and the grant distributions and have been simple to administer. Overall, our experience with the Foundation was very positive. They were supportive of the project and managed many of the administrative functions which allowed us to focus on fundraising and construction. I look forward to more interaction with the Educational Foundation in the future. - TONY HAHN, ALUMNI PRESIDENT DELTA CHAPTER - PURDUE UNIVERSITY

HOUSING RESOURCES TRUST (HRT)

AGR’s Housing Resources Trust Board developed a program to help chapters defer the cost for acquiring professional assessments of chapter houses. HRT Trustees help perform assessments that cover everything from immediate needs to long-term planning. These indivdiuals recognize industry trends and understand AGR’s housing needs.

HRT HOUSING ASSESSMENT

is an in-depth, professional look at the overall “health” of the chapter house and property. HRT Trustees identified a small group of companies who have broad experience and serve states in which our chapters are located. The HRT will match one-third of the cost for assessments up to a total of $6,000. After the assessment, the chapter will be able to plan the best approach for improving their chapter house. NON DESIGNATED Funds Non-Designated gifts support the National Fraternity and provide resources and programming to all AGR chapters. Gifts with no specific designation (i.e. Loyalty Fund for AGR) at the time of donation support operations and programs of the Foundation with no gifting or management fee.

HELPING CHAPTERS HELP THEMSELVES Through non-designated gifts, the Foundation is able to assist the National Fraternity with projects which serve the needs of multiple chapters. With support from these gifts, the National Fraternity assembles programs that individual chapters could not efficiently do alone. These programs include but are not limited to: • REGIONAL LEADERSHIP SEMINARS • MATCHING FUNDS TO CHAPTERS • UNDERGRADUATE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS • RECRUITMENT SCHOOLS • CHAPTER STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSIONS • ADVISER AND HOUSEMOTHER/DIRECTOR FORUMS

“WHY SHOULD I HELP OTHER CHAPTERS?”

A CHAIN IS ONLY AS STRONG AS ITS WEAKEST LINK All AGR chapters who participate in the programs and activities of the National Fraternity benefit from NonDesignated gifts. The overall purpose of The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho is to support the National Fraternity and its constituent members: our collegiate brothers at our local chapters. Contributions not designated to a specific chapter benefit all chapters and their members, thereby making Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity stronger across the nation.

LOYALTY FUND FOR AGR The 2017-18 Loyalty Fund for AGR: Giving for Our Purpose enables the Foundation to support educational programs and services for the National Fraternity including Leadership Seminars, scholarships, matching funds to chapters, Housemother/Director Forums, Adviser Forums, and more. CHAPTER PLANNING SESSIONS “I received life changing leadership guidance when I was an undergraduate. I like being able to help do the same for today’s AGR college leaders.”

Chapter Planning Sessions, professionally facilitated by Past Grand President Zane Akins, help chapters get motivated and create goals which contribute to the successful future of the Fraternity. Each chapter that participates in a planning session develops a useful strategic plan to guide the next 1-5 year(s) on their campus. “The strategic planning session for the Gamma Alpha Chapter allowed the alumni and collegiate brothers to come together to re-focus our vision and purpose on campus and within the community,” said Kevin Kersey, Alumni President at Florida Southern College. “I think we left the two-day planning session with a clear path of where we wanted our chapter to be. A huge thank you to Brother Zane Akins and the AGR Home Office!” Akins’ strategy during the sessions is to engage, challenge, and keep everyone on track. He feels it is important to let the chapter discuss their issues openly and have them make decisions on what strategy and actions they want to follow. Having conducted well over 100 chapter planning sessions for Alpha Gamma Rho, there is no doubt Zane Akins has contributed to the success of many chapters and AGR brothers.

“We have found that implementing the strategic plan has been paramount to our swift turnaround in GPA average, attendance, and overall success of the chapter.” - RYAN KORSMEYER

LEADERSHIP SEMINARS This year, Leadership Seminar attendees perfected the art of outbidding the competition when it comes to personal development. From collegiate members to the four Grand President’s Award recipients, attendees openly embraced the theme of “Broaden Your Brand” from beginning to end. Each session focused on personal brand development by evaluating how personal brands contribute to the reputation of an individual or entity, building consensus through collaborative relationships, the importance of mentorship, and utilizing communication platforms to expand an individual’s social network. The attendance among AGR’s collegiate members at each Seminar increased by 10% with 467 members representing 65 (92%) chapters and one colony (Arkansas Tech): 29 Advisers, 31 alumni and 14 Housemothers/House Directors were also actively engaged through the program. Leadership Seminars provide a venue for all chapters to come together and learn from their peers on ways to enhance themselves both personally and professionally in a fun and educational setting.

ADVISER FORUMS While no two chapters are the same, they may face similar, if not identical, issues. The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho supports reoccurring Adviser Forums, where AGR Advisers and alumni volunteers can discuss important chapter issues in an open dialogue. Attendees walk away from the forum with a plan of action to be effective in their role as well as hone in on specific objectives in order to be mentors to their collegiate members. One example of these dedicated volunteers is Marvin Flatt, who has served as an Adviser for Alpha Upsilon Chapter at the University of Tennessee-Martin for 12 years. AGR wasn’t always in the plan for Flatt. In highschool, Flatt wasn’t planning to go to college, as none of his family members had attended a university. He mentioned that back then, he didn’t know what a fraternity was. “But when I visited UT-Martin, it was like a light-bulb went off,” Flatt said. While a senior in high-school, he received a letter from AGR, saw the chapter house near campus, and figured he’d never be able to afford college, let alone AGR. But, as he finished up his senior year, AGR seemed to be stuck in the back of his mind. “I just knew it was something I wanted to be a part of,” said Flatt.

2017-18 ADVISER FORUM ATTENDANCE

SEPTEMBER 2017

JANUARY 2018

Now, Flatt has been involved with Alpha Gamma Rho for over 45 years. He was initiated into Alpha Upsilon at UT-Martin in 1972. He graduated with a major in Agriculture Education in 1976 and is currently the Director of Career & Technical Education at Weakly Country Schools and continues to serve as an AGR Adviser. “What I received from AGR in college – a new personality, friendships, support - it made me want to give back so someone else could experience the same thing,” said Flatt. Throughout his 12 years as an Adviser, Flatt has attended multiple Foundation-funded events including Adviser Forums, Recruitment Schools, Leadership Seminars, and National Conventions. “The Adviser Forum program has developed over the 12 years I have been doing this,” said Flatt. “It is now the best I have seen. Adviser Forums help us help our chapters maintain good reputations and gives us the chance to share ideas and discuss our concerns.”

HOUSEMOTHER/DIRECTOR SUPPORT The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho knows the importance of Housemother/Directors and their vital roles in Making Better Men For a Lifetime. The Foundation supports the travel of KayLynn Kalkowski, the Housemother/Director Coordinator for Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Kalkowski, also known as “Mom K” spent the 2017-18 year meeting AGR Housemother/Directors across the nation and has plans to redesign the Fraternity’s Housemother/Director Forums to meet their needs. One Housemother who Kalkowski met in 2017, says she aspires to be much like Mom K and is thankful for her support as she adapted to her new role as a Housemother to a Chapter who had not had a Housemother in over 12 years. Deborah Martinez, better known by brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho as “Mama Deb,” stepped into her role as Chi Chapter’s Housemother at Cal Poly State University in September of 2017. Although she’s only been on the job for a year, her experiences with AGR started over a decade ago when her son, Roland Fumasi, was initiated into Chi Chapter in 1990. “When Roland told me he was in a fraternity, I had no idea what that meant,” said Mama Deb. She mentioned her son served as California’s FFA Pres-

ident and was already self-sufficient going into college. Although he seemed to have it all figured out, Deborah noticed the impact of AGR right away, which helped her son continue to be successful throughout college. “Roland has been very successful, and he attributed much of his success from his connection with AGR,” said Mama Deb. “I could not be more proud of my son.” Roland received his masters from Cal Poly and his doctorate from Texas A&M. Brother Fumasi is now the Senior VP and Ag Economist for Rabobank and continues to be a supporter of Chi Chapter, serving as their Alumni Treasurer. Throughout 2017-18 year, Mom K has traveled to California twice to visit with Mama Deb and the Brothers of Chi Chapter. She has helped Deborah learn more about her role as a Housemother and helped the collegiate members learn the lasting benefits of a Housemother’s presence. Mom K mentioned her studies and findings of fraternity men having higher GPAs, better etiquette, and better job placement, from a Housemother/Director’s impact. Mama Deb mentioned she is grateful for her current role and especially grateful for Mom K. “Mom K is so sincere, solid, caring and loving! My boys love her,” said Mama Deb. “The relationship between the AGR boys and I is so special, I LOVE THIS JOB!”

NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS National Scholarships and Chapter Award applications are due annually on April 30 and awarded each fall. In 2018, 17 AGR brothers were awarded National Scholarships by The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho. Each brother applied for the undergraduate scholarship through the scholarship application form on www.alphagammarho.org/undergraduate-scholarships. During the application process, Brothers share how their involvement in Alpha Gamma Rho prepares them for their futures and what their membership in the Fraternity means to them.

WHAT DOES YOUR MEMBERSHIP IN ALPHA GAMMA RHO MEAN TO YOU? I saw the effects first-hand AGR had on my two brothers, Chance and Shayne. I saw how they grew from freshmen year to senior year, and how much they developed in character and leadership. Before my two brothers, my grandfather and father also attended Iowa State and were initiated into Eta Chapter. My two biggest role models always talked highly of how many memories and networking opportunities they had during their membership. For myself, membership in Alpha Gamma Rho means I have an organization that believes in me, and I have potential to succeed in the future. I see how important AGR is with molding young members from freshmen year into being presidents and leaders on campus and in the community. This process continues into the workforce with many members holding high-end positions within agriculture companies. I also feel that within my four years, I have learned I need to be a mentor - someone the underclassman can look up to or talk to. My hopeful lasting-impact would be knowing that when I graduate, my brothers can say they want to become a leader or a mentor like me. - TREY WIESE, IOWA STATE

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO INTEGRATE YOUR EDUCATION & AGR EXPERIENCE INTO YOUR FUTURE CAREER? I intend to use my academic education from my degree in Agriculture Science and Technology, my minor in Sustainability, and CIVICUS citation, as well as my leadership and network experience from Alpha Gamma Rho, not only to make myself the best person I can be, but to also create a stronger, socially-accepted and environmentally-conscious agriculture industry. I plan to continue to create career opportunities for other AGR’s in the future. I have gained a great deal of leadership, communication, and problemsolving experience through AGR and extracurriculars, and intend to bring them to enhance the future of agriculture. - MICHAEL WIJESINGHE, MARYLAND

WHAT DOES YOUR MEMBERSHIP IN ALPHA GAMMA RHO MEAN TO YOU? As a Pre-Med student, I’m not a typical AGR. From my first day in Kappa Chapter until now, I don’t share many classes with other brothers. Fortunately, that’s not what brotherhood is about. The brotherhood in AGR encompasses many more aspects of a fraternity than academia alone. My bond with AGR comes from a background in agriculture shared between all members of my chapter. This background acts as a root from where the values and morals of AGR grow. Although my brothers and I may be headed in different professional directions, our backgrounds and brotherhood tie us together. We may not study for the same tests, but we recite the same bond and table prayer. AGR is not an organization with the purpose of exclusion and elitism, but rather one that promotes commonality and Making Better Men. Thanks to this fraternity, I’ve grown into a far more mature and professionally adept personality. - NATE HEIMANN, NEBRASKA-LINCOLN

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO INTEGRATE YOUR EDUCATION & AGR EXPERIENCE INTO A CAREER? My experience with Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity has presented me with numerous opportunities for growth that will help me achieve a successful career as an agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor. I plan to integrate the skills and lessons I have learned in Alpha Gamma Rho into my career choice. Specifically, I will be able to use the lessons of time management, assertive effort, and networking. College is full of new experiences. Living independently, working, trying to maintain a healthy social life, and so many other factors comprise a student’s college career. This past fall semester, I realized it can be quite difficult to balance all the factors that make up my life as a college student. AGR has helped me learn how to properly balance my schedule, which will in turn allow me to maximize my time and impact as an agriculture educator in the future. I have always thought of myself as a perfectionist, and I definitely have a competitive attitude. However, this past year, AGR has pushed me to be even more aggressive towards my personal success. My brothers constantly push me to achieve greater goals, and I constantly push them to do the same. Through this past year, my chapter has allowed me to develop an assertive effort to achieve success in all that I do. In addition to time management and motivation, AGR has taught me the valuable skill of networking. My Fraternity has given me experiences to grow through networking in both social and professional aspects. I have connected with numerous brothers within National FFA and the agriculture industry. As an agriculture teacher, networking will be something I can implement into my curriculum and teach my students. Skills and lessons learned mean nothing unless they are put to good use. I plan to use what I have learned within AGR throughout my life. My career goal is to impact students similar to the way my agriculture teachers impacted and influenced me. AGR has given me the experience and skills to do just that. - KADE HILL, ILLINOIS

WAYS TO GIVE cash Cash, regardless of the amount, is accepted by the Foundation in forms of cash, check, credit card or money order. You can mail your check or credit card donations to the Home Office at 10101 N Ambassador Drive, Kansas City, MO 64153.

Commodities Commodities are a great way for brothers who are in production agriculture to support the Foundation. Make a gift of grain, other crops or livestock, as a more convenient way to give back. Although the process is simple, the impact is significant, and it may be a taxadvantage opportunity worth your consideration.

Complete Your commodity Gift in 5 Simple Steps:

1 2 3

60

Inform the Foundation you’d like to make a commodity gift and complete a pledge form

Indicate on the form the quantity and type of commodity being donated.

Deliver the grain to your local elevator or co-op.

4

Request a storage receipt be issued in the name of The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho and the contract to sell the grain be sent to the Foundation for signature.

5

The check for the sale will be issued directly to The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho.

matching gifts Corporate Matching gifts: Many companies will match donations made by their employees to nonprofit, tax exempt foundations. Contact your employer to find out if they have a gift matching program! Let the Foundation know if you need help completing the forms.

real estate Gifts of real estate: The Foundation is happy to work with any prospective donor interested in a gift of real estate. The Gift Review Committee must review gifts of real estate before acceptance.

planned gifts Planned Gifts such as whole life insurance policies, wills and estate plans when the Foundation is named as the owner and beneficiary of 100% of the policy, are graciously accepted by the Foundation.

STOCKS Stocks, like readily marketable securities, are accepted by the Foundation. Making a gift of stock can have tax benefits - capital gain taxes can be avoided and you may deduct the full fair market value of the gift. After consultation, nonpublicly traded securities may also be accepted.

personal property Tangible personal property such as jewelry, artwork, collection items, and equipment may be accepted by the Foundation, after approval from the Gift Review Committee.

THANK YOU, Brad Garrison! Brad Garrison, former Chief Development Officer for Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, was a huge contributor to the success of the Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho over the last 5 years. Brother Garrison joined the AGR Home Office Staff in 2013 and served until May 2018. He worked hard to build great relationships with donors and continuously lives out the Promise and Values of Alpha Gamma Rho. Under his guidance, AGR beat fundraising records, especially within the Loyalty Fund for AGR: Giving for Our Purpose. THANK YOU, Brad, for your service to Alpha Gamma Rho and Our Purpose of Making Better Men. 63

Grateful Dear Alpha Gamma Rho Brothers, Parents and Supporters: I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho. It’s humbling to wake up every morning and have the opportunity to make a difference in a young man’s life. However, it is just that… an opportunity. We all have the ability to give our many gifts and talents “For a Lifetime.” I have been absolutely amazed at the dedication of our volunteer leaders and the work being done at the national and the local chapter level. By working in collaboration with our collegiate brothers to prepare them now and in the future, we are making better men for a lifetime. It’s our job at The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho to help you make that possible. The net assets of the Foundation have risen 440 percent over the last 15 years, based on the 2016-17 Fiscal year 990 IRS filing. This is the third largest increase of the 54 fraternities reviewed that are members of the North- American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). Being new, all I can say is thank you and well done! This Growth Report is our Covenant with you. We must show transparency, sound stewardship, efficiency and a good return on your investment. I promise we will demonstrate continuous improvement in how we operate now and in the future. Every week, I hear great things about the Foundation as well as areas where we can do better. You have entrusted your investment with the Educational Foundation and you deserve

for that exchange to be simple and easy to fulfill. Processes and policies should provide guideposts and streamline procedures rather than impeding them. Please continue to advise us on how we can improve your experience; I am listening. Ultimately, it is all about the young men at your local chapters and enhancing their experiences. Think back to those days when you were in college. Think of the impact that Alpha Gamma Rho has made for you or the positive influence it presently is having on your son or grandson. I know what a difference this brotherhood has made in my career and personal life. I am humbled and grateful to serve Alpha Gamma Rho. I want our collegiate brothers to have the best scholarships, the best housing, the best internships and best job opportunities when they graduate. Please entrust us and support the Educational Foundation so we may continue to Make Better Men For a Lifetime. Sincerely and Fraternally Yours,

Rex A. Martin Chief Executive Officer
