“With the help of the SIS Grant and a small loan from a family friend, we were able to make an emergency move into a safe home within a week of receiving the funds. Since that move, thankfully my health has been improving, my dog is doing great, and I have a sense of security and safety. I am beyond grateful for the SIS Grant - for helping me get out of the awful situation I was in. “Alpha Gam stood up to pull me out. This may have been a simple act for Alpha Gam, but it was a giant and courageous one to me.” Thanks to you, 15 sisters facing unimaginable pandemic and emergency circumstances received $13,500 in financial support through SIS and Disaster Relief Grants. *SIS Grants are confidential; this story is printed anonymously, yet with permission to share the program’s personal impact.

Life can feel especially lonely when everything goes wrong.

”After my husband’s furlough due to the pandemic and after living with family, we moved into an apartment to quickly discover it was uninhabitable due to lead and mold. I’m immunocompromised and disabled to begin with. Unfortunately, I had just used all my savings to move and for tumor removal surgery for my service dog, so I was stuck. On top of that, I miscarried three days later. I felt like I was drowning between the lack of control over my home, my dog and my own body. This was truly one of the hardest times in my life. “I posted online about the hard time I was going through, reaching out to ask if anyone knew where I could find financial support. Within 20 minutes, I had three messages in my inbox about the Foundation’s SIS Grant program. “The SIS Grant changed my life. I know people say that all the time, but I genuinely mean it.

Out of necessity, food banks and pantries rely on shelfstable, pre-packaged foods. Yet we know our bodies need well-rounded nutrition to survive and thrive.

America, one of Alpha Gamma Delta’s national partners, CFTT’s work is to grow, harvest and distribute fresh produce at no cost to food banks, soup kitchens and pantries, feeding families in need across Colorado. Families at or below 200% of the federal poverty line, which in 2022 is $27,750 for a family of four, receive produce. In 2021, a third of Colorado residents faced food insecurity, meaning they lacked reliable, nutritious food. This has resulted in devastating impacts on those from all walks of life, including 16% of Colorado children. One of CFTT’s greatest strengths is its return on investment. A $5,000 grant enables the farm to provide local organizations with up to $15,000 worth of free food they would otherwise need to purchase. One hundred volunteers support nearly all of the farm duties throughout the year, donating 2,440 hours last year alone. With an eye to the future, CFTT has embarked on a multiyear process of transitioning operations towards more sustainable and regenerative farming practices to ensure access to healthy soil and water for generations to come. Thanks to our generous donors, Colorado Farm to Table is one of 35 fighting hunger organizations awarded grants totaling $270,000 this year, bringing our total fighting hunger grant awards to $1,270,000.

For over 26 years, the nonprofit Colorado Farm to Table (CFTT) has placed fresh, healthy, locally grown produce in the hands of people who need it the most, providing community connections as well as nutritional value that can’t be

Arabella Chamberlain, Pi–Coe College, was one of 28 students selected as a student researcher for the NASA Student Airborne Research Program last summer. This program, for highly motivated and advanced undergraduate students “ provides hands-on research in all aspects of a major scientific campaign, from detailed planning on achieving mission objectives to formal presentation of results and conclusions.” Bella shared her unstoppable desire to learn and lead with her sisters at Pi Chapter. On campus, she served as Vice President-Finance, Vice PresidentAcademic Excellence, Vice PresidentNew Member Experience, Orientation Leader and Student Senator. Among her biggest obstacles was the cost of education. Bella has worked multiple jobs throughout her college career. She is incredibly thankful for receiving a Foundation scholarship for a second time. “Thanks to the support I received, I was able to eliminate one of my jobs and focus on working as a supplemental instruction leader for physics, giving me the opportunity to grow as a leader and educate others while affording my own education,” shares “GrowingBella.up, I only dreamed of traveling to Mars, but now, the world waits on the cusp of a breakthrough, and I’m right on the edge. In the past few years, the world’s obsession with Mars has grown, and so has my determination to be one of the first few scientists to make it there. Staring up at the stars since I was young, I’ve known someday I’m going to be out there exploring the great unknown, and I promise I’m going to keep working hard, pushing myself until I get my chance.”

“Since I was a child, I’ve always dreamed about walking among the “Graduatingstars. from high school with my associates degree in physics already achieved, I developed a deep and growing passion for learning and intrinsic motivation to achieve whatever I set my mind to a killer combo for setting me on the path to be the first person on Mars.”

“IEntrepreneurship.wanttocreateand deliver programming for entrepreneurial women in the developing world. I know how greatly women benefit from making their own income. There are emotional and mental health benefits to being independent and financially stable. I have a passion for social justice and believe I have the potential to make a change in this world.” Shelan shares that her multicultural heritage has greatly shaped her goals. “I am a first-generation student to attend post-secondary education. My mother is ItalianIcelandic. My father is Turkish and grew up in a very small village. I would like to demonstrate to girls on my father’s side that we have just as much potential as boys. I want to prove success is possible and seeking out opportunities and working for your dreams can be a reality.”

In addition to her leadership within her chapter, as Vice President-Philanthropy, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Vice President-Recruitment, and Vice PresidentChapter Wellness, Shelan was named an award recipient of the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. This international program, operating in 130 countries and territories, serves to help young adults find their purpose, passion and place in the world.

As an Alpha Gam, “purpose” holds special meaning to Shelan. “The Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose helps me to strive to attain a higher standard and commitment to my community. It is a constant reminder that keeps me on track to make sure I am making the right choices, not just the easiest ones.”

“Now that I’ve graduated, I want to be a part of giving someone else a safety net.” Kate is helping other sisters map their futures by funding a scholarship for women in STEM fields.

“I had no idea the home I would find in Alpha Gam.

“Through my work with Abbot, a medical device and healthcare company, I am a Clinical Engineer in Cardiac Electrophysiology. Basically, I create a GPS map of the heart where an arrhythmia is originating from and guide the doctor on where to treat. This is an awesome opportunity to be working in healthcare and Kate’sengineering.”journey to her profession was anything but easy. She sought scholarships (she received two from the Alpha Gam Foundation) and “worked a million jobs” to put herself through college. She shares, “I loved college and worked hard, but the overarching stress of finances definitely impacted my daily life. I didn’t know if I would finish my degree, much less be able to afford a place to live or be a part of a sorority. Alpha Gam was definitely a worthwhile investment. What it gave back to me was more than I could have asked for.

There I found some of the strongest, kindest, smartest women that I have ever known. Being at an engineering school with (at that time) less than 30 percent of women, Alpha Gam provided support and a place to grow as a young woman. I was able to grow as a leader, as a friend and as a person.”

At the Academy for Collegiate Officers, 193 collegiate leaders learned to increase confidence and disarm doubters - including themselves. 44 It was my volunteer role with Vancouver Coastal Health working with homeless and drug-addicted populations that was a constant indicator of my interest in healthcare. I worked alongside nurses and physicians that assumed full responsibility for these vulnerable populations by ensuring they had food to eat, access to resources in their community, and acted as an advocate for their health. By observing the clinical teams in this raw setting, I learned how to pair the tenets of medicine with those of humanity; how true compassion and empathy must be embodied with that of beneficence, justice, autonomy, and non-maleficence.
