The BVI Boat Show, along with Charter Yacht Society of the BVI, continues to showcase how charter yachting and tourism as a whole positively affect and benefit many industries in the Territory. This annual event also creates potential business opportunities within the Virgin Islands’ economy.

Tourism is one of the bedrock pillars of our economy and my Government welcomes events such as the annual Charter Yacht Society Boat Show which helps to strengthen our product and makes our destination even more attractive.

Over the years, this boat show has become a fixture on the Territory’s calendar and continues to attract more and more industry leaders and enthusiasts to the British Virgin Islands. I salute the organisers and say thank you for the role you play in developing our vital tourism sector. My Government is therefore pleased to host this year’s show as it is yet another opportunity to shine the tourism spotlight on Nature’s Little Secrets.

The BVI is part of a global market where many places constantly compete to be the visitor destination of choice. Events such as this annual Boat Show help to distinguish our Territory from the competition, and it therefore has my Government’s full support. We are working assiduously to strengthen the yachting industry to further raise the bar of our overall tourism product.

As the Tourism Minister, I offer warm greetings to all charter yacht brokers, yacht owners, and crews in the 2012 show. If this is your first visit, get acquainted with our people, sceneries, foods, and entertainment.

The Charter Yacht Society of the BVI and Seaborne Airlines have entered into an exclusive partnership whereby the CYS has designated Seaborne as its Official Airline. Seaborne now offers all CYS charter guests a 15% discount on their regular air fares, for any route to and from the BVI and any other destination in their route system.

For example, it is anticipated that many guests will choose to fly from their mainland “gateway” to San Juan by one of the several major airlines flying those routes. They will then transfer to Seaborne for the short flight from San Juan to Tortola (Beef Island), eliminating the need to take the St. Thomas/Tortola ferries or a water taxi or to use valuable BVI vacation time in having their charter yacht pick them up from St. Thomas. The total fare, particularly when purchased sufficiently in advance, will, in many cases, be very competitive with the St. Thomas ferry/ water taxi/yacht pick-up options. It will also be considerably less hassle.

The CYS/Seaborne partnership was designed to make the BVI much more accessible to charter guests with regard to cost and convenience. It will maximize charter guests’ vacation time in the BVI, and permit any necessary overnight stays to be taken in the BVI. It will help restore Trellis Bay (Beef Island) as a pick up and drop off destination of choice, allowing guests to land within walking distance of their yachts.

For a number of years, options to fly into the BVI have diminished and grown more expensive. The Charter Yacht Society and Seaborne are proud to have reversed this trend.

HOW IT WORKS: It could not be more simple. After the guest’s broker has placed a “hold” for a Charter Yacht Society yacht, the guest or broker can proceed to the CYS website (bvicrewedyachts.com). On the home page, find the Seaborne link and click. Then, simply fill in the guest name, email address, CYS yacht name, broker name, date of charter and total number of guests and a unique promotional code for the entire party will be issued on the spot, and copied via return email. To secure the CYS discount, booking with Seaborne for the relevant charter must be done by phone ( 866 359 8784 or 340 773 6442); the promotional code will secure the discount on whatever fare the guests choose. Different members of the same party may make their bookings separately, but will use the same code. All normal refund, change, and baggage policies, etc, are outlined on the Seaborne website.

Sol BeST IN SHoW Judges will be looking at the whole spectrum of qualities that make a yacht and crew a winning charter combination; from yacht tidiness & personal touches to crew attitude.

Size and expense of a yacht is not a criteria. The Sol Best in Show winner must be a fully crewed yacht and a Charter Yacht Society member.

Plaque The Sol Best in Show yacht will have an engraved plate added to the perpetual plaque in the CYS office. A personal award, designed by Green VI’s Glass Studio will be presented to the winning yacht/crews of each category. In the event a yacht wins its category as well as Sol Best in Show, it will be awarded Sol Best in Show and the category runner-up will be awarded first place in the category.

Culinary Contest Saturday, November 9th judges visit. Your presentation times will be assigned to you by 5:00 pm Friday 8th by Captain Jan Robinson.

How It Works You may enter in one, two or all three categories. Each dish should be accompanied by a card with the name of the yacht, the name of the recipe, and brief description of the entry.

All preparation and cooking should be done by you, the chef, to reflect a dish you would serve on charter. You should present two individual dishes of each entry. One for judges to taste and one for photography purposes.

Judging is based on the most creative use of the rum in any single dish.

Awards The chef winning the “best overall” will have his/her name added to the perpetual plaque in the CYS office. A personal award designed by Green VI Glass Studio will be presented to each category and overall winner, except the Mount Gay winner who will receive a bottle of Mount Gay 1703 Old Cask Selection.
