the buzz
spring 2022
Hello Hivers! Happy Spring! This time of year always catches me at the intersection of reflection and excitement when it comes to thinking about Hive. Each day I find myself remembering all of 2021’s adventures, shared giggles, special moments, and discoveries. As I reflect on the times we shared together last summer, I find myself eagerly anticipating all of the new memories and special moments this summer will bring us. Right now I am happily abuzz preparing for our community to come together in June. I am in the process of assembling the incredible group of counselors who will be running to greet you on opening day. Some of them are old friends who joined us last summer, some are folks who have taken time away and are ready to joyously rejoin us, and some of them will be new to our community. I’ve had the pleasure of talking and sharing visions of the summer with each of them. Those conversations have confirmed to me that we are gathering a brilliant collection of people with skills ranging from painting to sailing, each and every one of them excited to share the summer with you.
We need each of you to weave together all of the things that make Hive magic; summits reached, friendships formed, marshmallows roasted, and stories shared. Often as I stand on my porch watching the snow melt and the world shift, I think of all of you remarkable people coming together to make Hive the special place that it is. We need each of you to weave together all of the things that make Hive magic; summits reached, friendships formed, marshmallows roasted, and stories shared. Not to mention some of the most creative costumes I’ve ever seen! I recently spoke with my fellow camp directors about the power of watching our communities come together and what intentions we wanted to set for the summer.
One phrase that kept coming up as we talked about our intentions was, “reaching beyond”. We each associated different things with that phrase, none of them more or less correct than the other. Reaching beyond could be going the extra mile in supporting a friend. It could be actively working to be your best self, even when it’s especially challenging. It could be picking yourself up after a setback and finding it within yourself to say, “I’ll try again.” I wonder, what does reaching beyond mean to you? What will it be like for you at Hive this summer? I don’t know your answers or what unique stories your summer will hold. That’s something you will get to decide. However, I do know that Hive and this entire community is here to support you in your vision. I also know that no matter what your answer may be, your summer will be full of smiles, grilled cheese, pranks, and, of course, lots of singing. Aloha,
