Wave Pool’s second Curatorial Resident of 2023, Rebecca Copper organizes a show about human and non-human interdependencies.
INTER/INTRA (2023) is an exhibition that examines the dependencies between human and non-human living beings. Communicated throughout the work on view is the mundane dependency that humans have on animals, plants, and other living matter, but also how these forms of life are dependent on humans. Everything's coming up Camp Washington "The community has deep roots in manufacturing, housing everything from factories to meat-packing plants. But new developments have rallied to promote arts, culture, and sustainable urban living. Today’s Camp Washington is characterized by passionate volunteers and residents motivated around the goal of community development." (Cincinnati Experience).
Wave Pool It seems fitting that this art center is set in an old Camp Washington firehouse. That’s because Wave Pool’s status as a community-driven art gallery isn’t just a mission statement; it’s part of its DNA. Programs range from art critiques to lectures to yoga, with the vision of “using experimental art to connect communities.”
site history. Camp Washington Chili This local landmark was founded in 1940 and still turns out its celebrated version of the famous Cincinnati chili 24 hours a day, six days a week (closed Sundays).

Statement of Beliefs • To acknowledge the need for community revival by proposing communal spaces that places making and creating at the center of its operations. • Create a cohesive and activated interior condition by having two main vertical moves that promote circulation and artist expression. • To enhance Wavepool’s community outreach by: expanding their services and space, maintaining their values and morals, and remaining courteous to the existing cultural context.

While standing on site, we recognized the need for a resource center that could highlight the area’s potential for progression. Wavepool, a contemporary art fulfillment center, does way more than we imagined. They serve all community members, from woodshop classes to a food pantry, all located in two main buildings (Welcome & Wavepool Gallery). Our design would relieve their tension and offer more service space, highlighting individuals' creative pursuits.

historical adaptation. Emphasis on maintaining overall building integrity, and remaining part of Camp Washington's DNA. In order to celebrate the heritage of both the Camp Washington neighborhood and the values of Wavepool, we’ve decided to keep both existing buildings on the site. While Wavepool currently operates out of the existing firehouse, we’ve decided to integrate the adjacent building, currently Illumination Studios, into our program.

1. Completel renovation of both buildings from the ground up, keeping only both envelopes. 2. The Illumination Arts building would become the offices that Wavepool operates out of.
