The Run Up to Summer

verybody is transfixed by the three “T” words, “Trump Tariff Turmoil”. How it will affect countries and people is still completely unclear and the tariff rates can change every day. In our “In the News” section we have some basic comments, how they might affect our province, and an article relating to the car component industry in Spain. Despite Easter being later this year, the weather was patchy during Holy Week. The “brotherhoods” in Almería city who organise the religious processions with enormous statues from their church have a strict timetable, and if they can’t comply, they have lost their slot. Rain can be combatted by covering the statues with huge sheets of polythene, but if it is windy they can’t exit the church. Various brotherhoods were affected and as the processions are the highlight of the religious year, cancellations are a huge disappointment. In our “In the News” section we report that the Daily Mirror has featured Almería city as being “The happiest city in Spain” flowing a nationwide survey. In Mojácar, on Easter Thursday and Easter Friday, various hotels reported a 90% to 100% occupancy, and 85% over Easter week. Francisco García, mayor of Mojácar, has valued the response of the tourism sector very positively. “Easter, once again, positions Mojácar as one of the reference destinations in the Mediterranean. Our offer combines tradition, culture, beach and good gastronomy, and that translates into an occupancy that is practically full.” With Easter being later this year, it is an easier decision for the beach bars to stay open, and there are more flights into Almería bringing international tourists. The time for submitting “La Renta”, the yearly tax return, finishes on Monday, June 30th and we give some general guidance in an article. Partly because of the devastating ‘Dana’ floods in Valencia at the end of October last year, the EU have issued guidelines for an emergency kit in the event of “aggression, natural disasters, pandemics or cyberattacks”, to last for 72 hours, when they

consider that rescue personnel will be in control again and services will be restored. We comment on this in an article. The investigation into the ‘Dana’ continues and it is very clear that the emergency was not dealt with in a timely manner by the authorities in Valencia and many lives could have been saved if the response was quicker and the advice to citizens was specific, not general.

Almería UD football club are having far more success this season but there are rumours that Turki Al-Sheikh’s time as the club’s largest shareholder may be near the end. If it is true, this will be a major development.

A Romería

During May, many Roman Catholic children have their “first Communion” and it is normal for restaurants to provide a meal afterwards. If your favourite restaurant has a large party in progress, it is likely to be for this reason. The first Sunday in May, so May 4th this year, is Spanish Mother’s Day, and Thursday, May 15th is an important fiesta date in Madrid, the day of “San Isidro”. Legend has it that he was a farmer who greatly helped poor people in Madrid in1172. There will be some celebrations in other parts of Spain when decorated farm vehicles go into the countryside for a picnic, known as a “Romeria” and this takes place in Mojácar. There are no other major fiesta dates in May. June or July when town halls, banks and many offices are shut but the ‘Moors and Christian” event in Mojácar is on Friday, June 6th until Sunday, June 8th.

Pechina is situated in the valley of the Sierra de Alhamilla in Almería province near Huércal de Almería, with a population of 4,400. On Monday, April 7th starting at 6am, more than 300 agents from different units of the National Police and another 100 from the Guardia Civil police, carried out an unprecedented “major operation” against arms, drug trafficking, and the fraudulent use of electricity. Units of police from various parts of Spain were drafted in, and 20 technicians from the electrical supply company Endesa worked with the police using thermographic cameras from a helicopter at 52 locations where electricity had been illegally hooked up, mainly to grow marijuana. Endesa stated that they had located and withdrawn 2,500m of cables from 155 illegal connections at 114 premises after the police had forced entry. The police collected 5,600 marijuana plants in an advanced state of flowering in different warehouses, homes and farmhouses along with 25kgs of cannabis buds. As regards arms, a National Police spokesperson revealed that they had broken up an organisation that supplied large numbers of pistols and rifles, thousands of bullets, cartridges and bullet-proof vests to criminal groups in various parts of Europe, and a rocket launcher was found and seized. The police also confiscated and removed 12 luxury vehicles along with 80,000 euros of banknotes. The number of people arrested was 32 along with other people arrested in simultaneous raids in Barcelona and Cádiz. Some of them were charged with “belonging to a criminal organisation”. Apportioned between provinces there were obviously far fewer Chinese compared to residents of any other nationalities. In recent years, the number of Chinese people in Spain has not stopped growing. In 2024 there were 6,792 more Chinese living here than in 2023. The integration of Chinese residents in Spain is one of the reasons why China is keen to have commercial ties with Spain.

The Civil War Refuges Almería City Council have approved the sum of almost 40,000 euros to carry out work in the very popular underground refuges, “Los Refugios de la Guerra Civil”, dating back to the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939. Almería was bombed 52 times and the shelters were designed for 90% of the population of 52,000. The money will be used to deal with humidity and improve the safety. Modifications will be made aimed at improving accessibility with more safety guidelines and parameters at the entrances and exits. Alternative handrails will be installed in various sections. The location of new fire extinguishers and the improvement of signs relating to fire prevention has also been included as part of this action. In March, the shelters had

Children under the age of six are admitted free. However, although the start date has not been specified, the refuges will be shut for three months whilst the work is carried out.

Dreambeach 2025 The Dreambeach lineup continues to grow for its 2025 edition. The Almería-based festival continues to add heavyweights from the electronic circuit to form a winning bet this summer. Fourteen new names in more than 10 shows shape the attractive appeal of Dreambeach next August. The lineup will feature many international surprises, including big names from the electronic circuit who have performed at Dreambeach before, as well as new and innovative urban artists. Dreambeach is co-financed with European FEDER funds from the Andalusian Regional Government. The Repsol & Viajar Guides Every year the Repsol Guide is published and introduced at a special event that this year was in Tenerife. La Costa in El Ejido keep their two “suns” and the Terrraza Carmona keeps their single sun recommendation. The Viajar magazine is an important guide for travellers in Spain. They have picked out Níjar as “the town where you eat best in Almeria”. For those who consider that “the best way to get to know a destination is through its gastronomy, Níjar is an essential visit. Almería’s Most Dangerous Roads More than twenty people lost their lives on the roads in the province of Almeria in 2024. Driving with a car, a motorcycle or a truck can become a danger, especially at some points on the road network where the death toll is very high year after year. A report has been published by Associated European Motorists (AEA) organisation, which has analysed the danger of the roads in Spain from 2018-2022, based on the data available from the Ministry of Transport. As far as the province of Almeria is concerned the N-340a is the road that accumulates the highest number of traffic accidents with fatalities and there are two places where a greater number of accidents are concentrated. The most dangerous of these two black spots, km point 519 of the N-340a, is located in Los Gallardos, that has an Average Danger Index of 99.9 (99.9 times higher than the national average) with two fatal accidents.

In the News (There are plans that have been approved to put a roundabout in where the Garrucha-Turre bypass meets the N-340a, but with no start date at present). Km point 508 on the road that runs between the neighbourhoods of El Toyo and Retamar is the second black spot with an Average Danger Index of 82.4 (82 times higher than the national average). There have been three accidents here in which nine people have been badly injured or killed.

Department of Labour are looking at these types of contracts because they are not very fair to the seasonal employee, but a solution will not be easy. Strictly speaking, temporary contracts are only legal in two circumstances. The employer can state that they have an unexpected demand for their services or goods, or they need a person whilst another employee is taking maternity or paternity leave or has a long-term illness.

Flights to the Canary Islands

Spain is receiving stage payments from the “EU Post Covid Recovery Fund” with a total grant of 79 billion euros that is subject to various changes and targets. One of the requirements for Spain to receive a stage payment was to make improvements regarding the labour market and stop temporary contracts except in very limited categories. The Spanish Royal Decree-Law passed on December 28th, 2021, catered for these conditions to give a guarantee of stable employment. A person on a fixed contract has peace of mind and can apply for mortgages or loans, or pay rent, with a regular income. The Almeria Labour Market Report for 2024, compares the figures from 2023 with information obtained from the annual Observatory of Occupations from the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy. This reveals that before the new law, permanent contracts were not more than 10% but in 2022 and 2023, they jumped up to 51% and 53%, respectively. This was 12% higher than the average in Andalucía and 10% more than the average in Spain that made it the 7th highest province nationally. There is a slight fly in the ointment however because permanent “discontinuous contracts” account to 55% of permanent contracts. These accounted for 29% of the total number of contracts in 2023, well above the Andalucía and state averages of 21% and 15% respectively. This is because in our province they apply to large numbers of people working in agriculture and hospitality, both subject to season requirements. Unfortunately, a person on a discontinuous contract cannot voluntarily resign, as a voluntarily cease of employment does not entitle them to claim unemployment benefit whilst looking for another job. They have to have their contract terminated by the employer. The Spanish

From April 1st a new flight route started from Almería to the Gran Canaria airport. It is operated by Binter who have flights between all the islands. There are flights in either direction on Tuesdays and Saturdays with a capacity for 20,900 passengers. Travellers who want to travel to other islands of the archipelago will be able to take advantage of free inter-island connections with more than 210 daily flights. Binter is the leader in inter-island air transport in the Canary Islands and also flies to 19 national and 11 international destinations. There are only two seats on each side of the aisle and passengers have a complimentary gourmet snack to choose from. In 2024 it was distinguished by the Association of European Regional Airlines (ERA) as Airline of the Year and Regional Connectivity and in 2023 it was recognised by the Spanish Consumer Organisation (OCU) as the best Spanish airline based on the opinions of travellers regarding service, prices and quality.

New MOVES III Scheme The government has extended the MOVES III scheme of subsidies for the purchase of electric, hydrogen and plug-in hybrid cars until December 31st with a budget of 400 million euros. We have commented previously that the extension of the scheme until June 30th was part of the “omnibus” bill that was defeated in parliament on January 22nd so the subsidies stopped. Many dealers stated that customers who had ordered a vehicle towards the end of 2024 cancelled them, because the grants had stopped before they took delivery, and sales in the first three months of this year fell by 50%. The industry had hoped that there would be a better alternative, but the scheme has been reintroduced

In the News the same as before. The subsidies are available if it is a new vehicle or one that is not over 12 months since being sold initially. There is a subsidy of 4,500 euros off the price of an all-electric or hydrogen fuelled car that costs up to 54,450 euros, or 7,000 euros if a vehicle older than 7 years is scrapped. For vans, the subsidy is 9,000 euros with the same condition, and there are reduced subsidies of 2,500 euros or 5,000 euros with a scrapped car for plug-in hybrid cars. There is a deduction of 15% of the purchase price (up to 3,000 euros) when the annual “Renta” income tax return is submitted. Quite unfairly, the ‘Hacienda’ (Spanish tax authority) consider that the subsidies amount to an income for the purchaser who has to pay capital gains tax! The amount depends on the tax situation for each person. Subsidies for the installation of a private charging point go from 20%, 40% or 50% depending on the situation and 80% for individuals, the selfemployed or a community of owners, in towns with less than 5,000 inhabitants. The amount may vary depending on the municipality as they administer these subsidies, and it is not the same throughout Spain. The purchaser has to apply for all the subsidies from the autonomous communities (in our case Andalucía) but in some communities there is a delay of 12-24 months. Dealers will usually complete the paperwork to start off the application. The government have promised that the procedure will be made simpler and a lot quicker. Dealers have been asking that the subsidies are taken off the sale price at the point of sale but this is still not the case. The Third Vice-President and Minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, has stated that a proposed “shock plan” from the EU will make buying electric and hybrid cars much simpler with increased subsidies and identical procedures in all EU states based on the ones that work, and Portugal is a prime example. As the details have not yet been published, Sara Aagesen considers that extending the MOVES III scheme is the best current option.

Electric Scooters Police in Almería city go to schools to explain the regulations regarding electric scooters and also the highway code, as young people who have not gone through the procedure to obtain a driving licence

In 2024 a total of 874 drivers of electric scooters and personal mobility vehicles (PMVs) were stopped and fined, which represents an increase of 54% compared to the 567 fines handed out in 2023. The main infractions have been reckless or negligent driving, driving in the wrong direction, transporting a passenger, using a mobile phone or ear phones whilst driving, and not respecting the signs or orders of the police. Fines have also been imposed for driving on sidewalks and pedestrian areas and interurban roads which violates the regulations. The Local Police remind people that driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol or drugs can lead to fines of between 500 and 1,000 euros, depending on the breathalyser reading, and 1,000 euros if positive for drugs. In all these cases, the vehicle will be immobilised, as is the case with other means of transport. The use of a mobile phone while driving is punishable by 200 euros, the same amount imposed on those who drive using a mobile phone or headphones, without lighting or without reflective clothing at night, as well as those who do not wear a helmet in municipalities where their use is mandatory. In Mojácar wearing a helmet is not compulsory but it is recommended that all users of electric scooters wear one. In the event of an accident these can help prevent serious injury or death. Some fines were for not respecting road safety and infractions against the highway code, such as going through a red traffic light or a stop sign, or driving over a zebra crossing, as along with cyclists the driver must dismount.

Fake Priests The Diocese of Bilbao has instructed undertakers that funeral services have to be conducted by a normal priest, not a fake one, but the situation is still prevalent in various funeral homes. One man responds to requests from several funeral homes and presents himself as a “Franciscan priest”. In chapels, he conducts farewell services for the deceased using the normal religious wording and will offer spiritual advice to relatives to cope with grief. He does not belong to the Franciscan body of priests, is not ordained as a priest and he has bought religious clothing that is reserved exclusively for genuine priests during the Christian liturgy via

In the News the internet. One of the funeral homes admits they have worked with him “for a long time” and they do not ask for any qualifications or proof of being genuine. They argue that there are not enough real priests to meet the existing demand and many of them refuse to officiate outside their churches and will not come to chapels of rest or crematoriums. The rate established by the Diocese of Bilbao for a funeral ceremony is 100 euros but allegedly, fake priests will only charge 70 euros and ask to be paid in “black money”. The Association of Basque Consumers and Users states that from a legal point of view, a fake priest could face criminal consequences for purporting to carry out functions that they have no right to do and misrepresenting their qualifications. They consider that there is “moral damage” caused to the families who trust that the ceremony will be officiated by a legitimate priest. If not, their religious convictions have been violated that is something that cannot be rectified.

Less US Tourists Donald Trump’s executive orders and purge on immigrants he considers criminals with no justification is affecting tourists. There are stories on social media about people that have been refused entry because they were told they had the wrong visa or denied entry for no concrete reason, including a rock band at Los Angeles airport. An estimate, even before he took office, predicted a fall of 7% and a very recent one predicts 5% less for every year he is in office. In lost revenue this is estimated to be a minimum of 60-80 billion dollars as international tourists spend more money than domestic ones. Canada is very upset with Trump of course and of the total of 72 million tourists in 2024 some 20.2 million came from Canada. In just January and February, there was a drop of 23% in people going to the US by road and a 13% drop in air travel, and figures for March are predicted to be worse. Canada is seeing a big increase in European tourists and an increase of 32% in bookings by Canadians who are choosing Europe as their holiday destination. 17 million tourists from Mexico went to the US in 2024 but current figures show a drop of over 50%. European tourists spent 155 billion euros in the US in 2024 but many countries are warning residents that a visa is not a guaranteed entry document. After Canada and Mexico, UK

tourists totalled 4 million in 2024 but travel agencies say there is a marked drop in numbers and searches for holiday destinations in the US on the internet have also gone down. Visitors from China and Japan have fallen in numbers, before the 25% tariff on their cars that is expected to put off a large number of potential tourists and have a major impact. Tourists from Spain to the US in 2024 were less than 900,000.

Second-Hand Cars People buying a second-hand car always worry that it may be expensive to repair. ‘Consumentenbond’, the Dutch consumer association, has joined seven other European organisations of this type to carry out a study on the most reliable brands on the secondhand market. To do this, they have surveyed 30,000 drivers from all over Europe who are owners of vehicles ranging in age from six months to 12 years. In total, more than 200 models from 32 different brands were examined. The main conclusion of the report is this; if you are looking for a reliable car, you should choose a brand from Japan or South Korea. Of the top 10, eight come from these countries. Lexus is the benchmark in terms of reliability with a score of 9.6 out of 10. It is ahead of Suzuki 9.0 and Subaru 8.9. This dominance is not new: it has already occupied the first place in previous editions of the study. After them, the list of the top 10 is completed by Toyota 8.6, Kia 8.5, Smart 8.5, Honda 8.3, Mitsubishi 8.3, Nissan 8.1 and BMW 8.0. At the opposite end of the scale are Land Rover 4.8, Opel 6.5 and Peugeot 7.0. They have pointed out that it is too early to collate data regarding cars coming from China. The study also highlights which Lexus model is the most reliable, which is the NX, specifically the 2014-2021 models. This has obtained a score of 9.9, never achieved before. The overall satisfaction of Lexus NX owners is above average at 8.5 and additionally, drivers pointed out the absence of problems, even minor ones. The study explains that this reliability comes at a price as in the “Pre-owned”’ section, the cheapest one starts at around 20,500 euros. Another Japanese model that has obtained a high score is the Lexus CT200h at 9.4. In terms of satisfaction, it has a better score than the Lexus NX at 8.6. A negative point is that owners do not criticise its reliability, but they do criticise the small size of the boot.

So Now You Know... The Oldest Animal The oldest living land animal on earth is stated to be the 192-year-old tortoise named Jonathan. He is a Seychelles giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea hololissa), a subspecies of the Aldabra giant tortoises. His age is calculated because he was “fully mature” when brought to Saint Helena in 1882. Tortoise experts consider that “fully mature” means at least 50 years old so he was hatched in 1832. A photograph featuring Jonathan, originally thought to date from 1902, actually dates from 1886 showing him four years after his arrival at Saint Helena. Measurements taken from the photograph show that he was fully mature in 1886. Magnetic Tape In the 1930s and 1940s German engineers improved the technology of magnetic tape that was passed over a recording head that imprinted the tape with magnetised signals. This could be played back using a playback head. It was a major achievement for recording sound and the advantage was that the tape could be used again after erasing the first recording and it could be edited by cutting it and splicing it together. Experiments in the world of popular music include the 1951 recording of How High the Moon featuring guitarist Les Paul. Using tape allowed him to perform all eight guitar parts in a process called “over dubbing.” Central Park, New York Central Park in New York City is located between the Upper West and Upper East areas of Manhattan, the fifth-largest park in the city covering 843 acres (1.3 square miles). It is the most visited urban park in the United States with around 38 million visitors every year. It is larger than the Principality of Monaco, on the French Riviera, bordered by France to the north, east and west and by the Mediterranean Sea to the south. The area is only 518 acres (0.81 square miles) and it is the second smallest sovereign state in the world, after Vatican City. With a total of 38,500 residents, it is the most densely populated sovereign state. 34

The Eiffel Tower and Barcelona Many facts about the Eiffel tower state that it was designed to be erected in Barcelona, intended to be the centrepiece of the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exhibition, but the authorities didn’t like the design. The Universal Exhibition was Spain’s first International World’s Fair and took place from May 20th to December 9th. The claim is that because of this, Gustave Eiffel then offered it to Paris. An extensive search and study of all official planning documents for the Barcelona Exhibition does not show that any formal discussion, nor an official offer was ever received from Gustave Eiffel, so it seems to be a myth! The Tiny Pocket Jeans, originally invented in 1873 by Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis, were initially created for workers who needed durable and long-lasting work trousers. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, pocket watches were widely used as timekeeping devices and were valuable possessions, often passed down through generations or given as a gift. They were bulky with no safe place on clothing to put them in and the tiny pocket was easily accessible and secure. Today, this pocket has found new purposes as a convenient storage spot for small items such as coins, keys, earbuds and other small objects when on the move. The Venus Flytrap The Venus flytrap is endemic to North and South Carolina and is a flowering plant best known for its carnivorous eating habits. The “trap” is made of two hinged lobes at the end of each leaf. On the inner surfaces of the lobes are hair-like projections called trichomes that cause the lobes to snap shut when an insect comes in contact with them. To prevent the plant from wasting energy if prey isn’t actually there, the trap will only shut when the trichomes are touched multiple times. There are other carnivorous plants in the wild, but the Venus flytrap is one of the very few that exhibits clear motion to actively trap its prey. 35

The EU Emergency Kit

The Norwegian manual lists wet wipes, gloves, hydroalcoholic gel, toilet paper and plastic bags. These will be needed if toilets cannot be flushed, and women should have a supply of sanitary items. Another recommendation is to keep personal documentation where it can quickly be found, as well as various forms of payment such as cash, credit or debit cards. As regards home equipment, there should be a pocket knife, can opener, a battery smoke detector, fire extinguisher, duct tape to seal doors and windows and basic tools.

As regarding meals, it should be taken into account that it may be impossible to continue to refrigerate or freeze food. Non-perishable foods that can be stored at room temperature and are easy to consume are preferred. It is recommended that they are part of the normal regular diet so they have been purchased regularly which prevents them from being in poor condition. Some suggestions included in the Norwegian guide are canned food and all kinds of products such as nuts, dried fruit, legumes, milk, and rice and pasta if they can be cooked. However, apart from Seat (and now Cupra), car plants in Spain produce specific models of vehicles and trucks exclusively for Volkswagen, Nissan, Daimler AG, Ford, Renault, Stellantis (formed in 2021 with a merger of 14 brands including Fiat, Peugeot, Dodge, Jeep and Maserati), MercedesBenz and Iveco.

largest buyer of Spanish automotive parts worldwide. Spanish component suppliers sell parts worth 4.3 billion euros to Germany, which is undoubtedly the EU country that will be most affected if there are tariffs, as in 2024 they exported 500,000 cars worth 22 billion euros to the US, out of the EU total of 800,000. If they have to scale back production this will have a knock-on effect in all the countries that send parts to Germany, including Spain.

If you totally dismantle a mid-range car including all the components into their respective bits, there will be over 20,000. The word “Globalisation” refers to the vast majority of car manufacturers buying in parts from other countries. Manufacturers aren’t keen to state how many parts are not made by them, but it can be 70% and 50% of the value. Any import tariff in the US will make these parts more expensive for US manufacturers, and quite often, a car in a certain stage of manufacturer will cross borders more than once, to have the next stage of assembly carried out. A typical example is the US and Mexico.

In the EU, two Spanish manufacturers supply the most headrests and other manufacturers are in second, third and fourth place for seats and safety belts. Another Spanish company supplies the most internal and external wing mirrors and two more companies supply the most doors.

At the end of WWII, Toyota came up with the “Just-in-time” concept that relied on outside manufacturers of components and assemblies keeping up a constant stream of deliveries, just a few hours (or even as little as one hour) before they were needed on the assembly line. A break in supply may result in the assembly stopping. José Portilla is the CEO of Sernauto, the Spanish association that represents the sector that supplies vehicle components made in Spain. He points out that Spain, in addition to being the ninth largest car manufacturer in the world and the second largest in Europe, also has a prominent position in the field of components sent all over the world. In 2024 Spanish companies sent parts worth just over 1 billion euros to the US, so the US was the eighth

Gregorio Serrano is the senior advisor for Sustainable, Safe and Connected Mobility of Electric Vehicles in Spain. He states, (in the event of tariffs) “It will be necessary to rethink the relationship with China to encourage European exports to that market and, at the same time, accept a greater flow of Chinese electric vehicles into the EU by reducing the present import tariff. This would translate into new productive investments on European soil, generating employment and helping to compensate for the possible loss of jobs, and Europe and Spain have already made the first approaches.” This has particularly been done by the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and we comment on his latest visit to Peking in our “In the News” section.

Community News It’s All Happening with PAWS-PATAS Fundraising Team

Future events include an Edith Piaf Tribute/Gala Dinner in Turre on 8th May and our Fashion Show at Los Gallardos on 10th May.

The Fund Raising Volunteer Team at PAWS-PATAS are working hard behind the scenes organising lots of varied and fun events throughout the year to bring a little extra fun to your lives, and to help us continue with the rescue, care and rehoming of dogs and cats in Mojácar area. Events Update Our 1st Bingo/Brunch event sold out and was a huge success with 53 attendees all enjoying fun and great food and a massive 499 euros was raised. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the event and The Snug for amazing food and service. Don’t forget to book if you want to join us, only 16 spaces remain for our 1st May one!

Los Bandidos Out in Force

Six ‘fan zones’ with lots of cheering and music encouraged the runners to the end where there was beer and paella to celebrate. All finishers received a commemorative t-shirt, IKEA voucher and a pack of tomatoes! Trophies were awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each age group as well as to the overall winners. Representing Los Bandidos, podium places went to Jackie Darcy, 3rd, and Derek Wright, 3rd in their age groups in the half marathon and Shirley Ball, 1st in her age group in the 10k. 19 Los Bandidos runners travelled to Almeria for the 26th edition of the Almeria Half Marathon and 10k race on Sunday, 6th April. Conditions were good and a number of personal best times were achieved. The Tree I had a tree I wanted removed, because it was too close to the house. I called a tree guy and he came out and did a nice job cutting down the tree. He asked me what I thought and I said it was nice but what about the stump? He informed me that he was just a tree guy who cut down trees, if I wanted the stump removed, I would need to call a stump guy. I found a highly recommended “Tree Stump Specialist” and he came and got the stump out......He says “There you go”...I ask him about the hole......He says “I’m a stump guy, I just remove stumps, I don’t fill in the hole”…...He told me I would need to call a Landscaper......so I get a hold of a landscaper and I tell him I’m about to leave town on a trip and I don’t care what he does, “Just fix the hole and make it look nice”. I get back today and what did I find? He planted a friggin tree! At the Cemetery A man placed some flowers on the grave of his dearly departed mother and started back toward his car when his attention was diverted to another man kneeling at a grave. The Talking Dog A man sees a sign outside a house - ‘Talking Dog For Sale.’ He rings the bell, the owner appears and tells him the dog can be viewed in the back yard. The man goes to the yard and sees a very nice looking Labrador Retriever sitting there. “Do you really talk?” he asks the dog. “Yes,” the Labrador replies. I wanted to help the government, so I was sold to the SAS. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one imagined that a dog would be eaves dropping.
