Mojácar, Garrucha, Roquetas, Cabo de Gata, San Juan de los Terreros, Aguilas and Villaricos all have bonfires on the beach. There are no “official” “Red” days on the calendar as national Fiestas Days in June - a good job too. There will however be bleary eyes on June 24th!

Focus on Local News Gotcha! Spanish National Police, forming part of the Spanish Frontiers Police, joined forces with the European Agency of Frontier Police, in an operation to arrest two young men aged 20 and 26 years of age from Algeria. The reason all the police forces had gone to such trouble is that they have cast iron evidence that these two men had organized the voyage of an inflatable craft from Oran in Algeria to the Spanish waters. The craft was intercepted off Cabo de Gata on May 24th, 4 nautical miles off the coast. An elaborate system of detectors is in place to spot such craft off the coast and fishing vessels, or other ships, pass on information about such boat people. The boat had left Algeria on May 23rd with 19 people on board. Like similar ‘boat people’, each passenger had paid heavily for their voyage, in the promise of a better life in Spain. The passengers, after being intercepted, gave statements implicating the two men who had sent them off with instructions as to what they were to do if intercepted. The GPS navigation system they were promised did not materialize. Such people as these have received very large prison sentences in the past as part of the Mafia syndicates that organize these excursions. In 2010, the rescue services including the reception teams from the Spanish Red Cross celebrated the fact that no-one had died as a result of such trips in 2010. Unfortunately this year 14 people died when their boat drifted out of range of the radar and sensor system. Telefónica Redundancies The Spanish telecommunications giant Telefónica is embarking on a scheme to bring new blood, particularly young technical expertise, into their company. To do this they have asked for a series of redundancy programmes. In Spain, such redundancies have to be approved by a special employment tribunal who are penalizing heavily such schemes, known as “ERE” plans. The latest round of talks involves the voluntary redundancy of 8,500 people, reduced to a maximum of 6,500 by the employment tribunals. The redundancies have also to be spread over 5 years, not the 3 that

Telefónica was planning. The cost of this scheme will be 2,600 million euros, all paid by Telefónica, with a scale of payments following redundancy depending on the age of the person deciding to accept voluntary redundancy. Each worker will get at least a minimum of 400,000 euros, and a person taking redundancy is not prohibited from working for another company. The Spanish Government consider that this “cleansing” of the workforce is only designed to make Telefónica more profits, so they have to pay heavily for such programmes.

Juan Enciso For 20 years, Juan Enciso and the political party “Partido de Almeria PAL” that he formed in 2005, have ruled El Ejido with a majority council vote. For most of these years Juan Enciso has been mayor. All this changed when Spanish National Police, who planned the raids in Malaga, descended in force on El Ejido town hall and arrested amongst 20 others, Juan Enciso and his wife. The charges were bribery, corruption, fraud, falsifying of documents and siphoning huge sums of money via a multiservice company who carried out all town hall work or projects. Juan Enciso presented candidates in 46 municipal elections in 2007. Released eventually from the Granada prison with a heavy bail condition that included him surrendering his passport, he vehemently protested his innocence, blaming his close friend and mastermind who had dreamed up the schemes. He refused to resign as mayor and presented himself for re-election this May. The voters decided they believed the allegations and he was reduced to being in the opposition. He

His political party has gone from having 7 mayors in 2007, to just 7 councillors in opposition in 2011. Construction Problem In the “Andalucía” section of the Spanish daily “El Mundo” dated May 17th, Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Zapatero reflected on the problem caused by the construction industry and the lack of buyers. Zapatero was speaking at a political party meeting in Seville. He said that without the problem caused by “over building”, the number of people on the unemployed register would be reduced by 70%, and Spain would be enjoying the same level of growth as other EU countries. This is of course particularly true of the Almería province where it is calculated that there are 22,000 new, unsold properties waiting for buyers, almost 59% being sold by estate agency departments set up by banks as they experienced construction company bankruptcy on a scale never seen before. Arboleas New Mayor The PP (roughly Conservative Party) did not gain a majority in the Arboleas elections, so Cristóbal García will be inducted as mayor. Cristóbal, from the Partido Socialista de Andalucía (PSA) party has been mayor before and he knows the problems and situation of Arboleas. In an interview with ‘Cadena Ser’ radio station in Albox, he stated that he was honoured to be mayor again, and stated his first priority was to carry out his own survey of the housing situation in Arboleas, with the help of ‘Galasa’ regarding the water supplies, and ‘Endesa’ regarding Electricity. Cristóbal said that the measures to make “illegal” properties legal seemed to have defects, and some properties that would seem to be included in the new “PGOU” town planning document were not included. He also stated that in one case a swimming pool was legal, but not the villa! Asked about the proposed commercial centre he replied that he understood talks had been held with a property promoter, but he didn’t know who it was, and how far the project

had gone. He stated that if the previous council members were using this project as a means of building more housing complexes this would not go ahead. He said that Arboleas consisted of 5,000 inhabitants, many of them non-Spanish, and all the inhabitants deserved a sports pavillion (grant aided), a college, a football ground and an area where markets could be held without blocking the access to Arboleas, and used other days for events. He finished by saying he was aware that he had the trust of the inhabitants following the elections, and he would not abuse this trust.

Pitbull Attacks Two young people were bitten by a pit-bull terrier in Viator on June 1st. The two males aged 20 and 15 years were apparently trying to have a discussion about the pit-bull that they considered was dangerous and was not being walked according to guidelines for such breeds. The man in charge of the pit-bull, to show his disapproval of such a confrontation, released the dog that then attacked the two youths. The pit-bull was neither being restrained with the legal form of “choke” lead, and neither was it muzzled. The man walking the dog has been arrested, and the pit-bull found a temporary home at Almería zoo. It is not uncommon for such dogs, once they have attacked someone, to be put down by order of a court Tragic Death A man aged 40 was drowned after he successfully rescued his 10 year old daughter who had fallen in to a large agricultural water lake. Focus on Local News continued occurred on June 1st and a police spokesperson in conjunction with the 112 Emergency Health Unit, stated that it was believed the small girl was trying to get hold of the family pet dog, that had untied itself and she thought was in danger of falling into the “balsa”. She herself fell in, and her father dived in to rescue her. Another man aged 29 also dived in to help, and he was treated for injuries by the health servuces emergency ambulance. The mother, aged 33, had to go to the hospital with her daughter, who had superficial cuts. The mother was then treated for shock and a panic attack whilst at the hospital. This tragic accident occurred between the Guardia Viejas beach area and the Adra junction at an area known as ‘Matagorda’.

After interviewing him they decided to X-ray him, and discovered that he was carrying a large number of packets of drugs in his stomach and intestine. The officers let nature take its course, in a special set of rooms set aside for this purpose. The young man expelled 1, 044 grams of hashish, in 154 packets. This was probably enough for 4,000 street packets, with a value of 5,000 euros. Flushed with this success, the customs agents observed that a 31 year old woman, who turned out to be from Olaeta-Barrundia in Alava was nervous and sweating at customs. She had come from Morocco on a ferry. After establishing her name was Karima A., female officers conducted a body search. They managed to extract a large sausage type cylinder, rounded at both ends from her vagina. She was carrying 37 packets of hashish, with a total weight of 249 grammes, just over a quarter of a kilo. It was considered that the hidden “sausage” had a street value of 6,000 euros. The weight and size went into the customs legends, and they put a photograph of the package on the Guardia Civil ccustoms website that records arrests and issues press releases.

Woman’s Body Found Rosa Galera, aged 28, went missing on Monday May 30th from Fines where she lived. Like other disappearances without any reason, intense searches had been undertaken using Guardia Civil (County police), aided by sniffer dogs and a helicopter with heat seeking equipment. Many volunteers aided the search as well. On Thursday, June 2nd, during the afternoon, police concentrated on a section of land near to the ‘Solar Investigation Complex’ in Tabernas, and discovered her dead body (reportedly strangled) in a shallow grave. Forensic detectives and other specialized police were called to the scene, and her body was removed at 8 pm for a full autopsy. Various people had been questioned, including her ex-husband, Oscar P.F. who was in custody for questioning at the time. He was later formally charged with her murder. Rosa Galera had a daughter aged 5, and police state that there is no record of her previously reporting, or ringing, special ‘phone numbers such as for women who have suffered threats, or physical violence from their husbands or partners. In theory, if your local chemist states that there is a delay in getting medication prescribed, for example if he is waiting for deliveries, you have to go back to your doctor to get a new prescription if you need the drugs urgently. The 2008 ‘Spanair’ Crash The investigating judge, Juan Javier Pérez, appointed to conduct a major enquiry into the deaths of 154 people, including 3 people from Almería province, has ruled that 3 persons are to be prosecuted for involuntary homicide and therefore causing the deaths of the 154 people on the ‘plane. These persons who are to stand trial are José Antonio Viñuela, in charge of the maintenance department of ‘Spanair’ in Madrid; David Torres in charge of the maintenance that particular day, and Alejandro Sahuquillo, in charge of quality control and flight safety at the time of the disaster. They each face charges of causing the death of 154 passengers and crew. Other people including a maintenance mechanic have already been charged. Flight JK5022 was destined to be flying to the Canary Islands from the Barajas airport in Madrid on August 20th 2008. One of the major hurdles that the judge had to overcome was to find expert aviation witnesses who were independent of ‘Spanair’ and the manufacturer of the aircraft. One of the panel of expert witnesses was also involved in the expert witness team investigating the Concorde crash in Paris in July 2000.

The record breaking pizza

Guinness Book Record Tomelloso in Cuidad Real has gone into the history books and the Guinness Book of Records for producing the longest pizza ever made, with a total length of 1,141 metres, slightly more than 1 kilometre. 120 Pizzerias from all over Spain, including 3 from Almería province, sent 120 pizza makers, with 130 helpers, 60 logistic experts, 4 bakers and 5 oven specialists and 2 tractor drivers who pulled the pizza in one piece through the ovens. They used 2,700 kgs of pizza flour, 700 kgs of Mozzarella cheese, 700 kgs of ham and 690 kgs of tomato paste. At one stage, one of the ovens broke, and one of the problems was nerves on the part of the workers that they would not achieve their aim. A Guinness Book of Records Judge came from London to certify that they had indeed achieved what they had set out to do!

Unemployment Figures Figures regarding employment and un-employment for the end of April 2011, show that un-employment fell by -0.23% between the end of March and the end of April, with a further fall of -0.15% during May. This still left an official figure of 4,189,659 people without work in all of Spain, but 108 less in Almería province. The number of people paying ‘ETA’ Regrouping Social Security (National Insurance) rose to 72,904 The European Police Department (Europol) agrees people, with a total for Spain of 17,592,191 persons with Peréz Rubalcaba, the Spanish Deputy Prime

Focus on Local News continued Minister, that ‘ETA’ is using the National elections in 2012 as a means of reducing activity whilst they re-group. They agree that in the last 3 months of 2010, ‘ETA’ was trying to establish terrorist cells outside of Spain, and continue with the amassing of money, despite their “Cease Fire” that nobody believed was true, in September 2010. This opinion has been published in a report of European Terorrism in the European Union in 2011. 43 pages are dedicated to the Basque group ‘ETA’. They back this up by saying that previous “Ceasefires” in 1998 and 2006 have been proved to be just statements designed to take away the heat of constant police action. They state that senior ‘ETA’ leaders have been leaving Spain (and now France) in order to operate in countries such as Portugal and Belgium.

Vera “AVE” Station The site of the Vera High Speed Train station has been definitively located on the Garrucha to Vera road, immediately opposite the petrol station. The moderately sized station will be only 300 metres from the road and would be connected to the service road coming from the Vera Hotel, together with the extension of the ‘Muebles Flores’ service road,. The mayor of Vera, Feliz Lopéz, is delighted that this imaginative project is now officially almost underway, forseeing employment, more tourism and a station where you can get to other parts of Spain much easier and quicker than before.

Too Many Fiestas The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has called upon Greece, Portugal and Spain to cut down their fiestas and holidays, and work harder. Germany still has the lowest number of days available to be taken as holiday. This announcement, very badly timed, was treated by fury in Spain as the Spanish and Andalucía producers of horticulture have laid off thousands of workers following the farcial and unproven report that Spanish cucumbers left Spain with the E-coli virus. Health Claims The Spanish Health Authority, ‘Sanidad’, has published a report concerning the Health treatment in Almería province. This report is called, “Estudio Sobre la Prestación Asistencial al Pacientes en Andalucía” which includes the Almería area. 924 patients and 24 private health clinics were questioned about their views on health treatment. 65% of these patients had chosen to pay for private medical treatment for minor procedures. These people still consulted the Spanish public health services in 46% of the cases when they felt they needed public medical assistance (the average in Spain is 38%). The survey revealed that expertise and serious medical conditions saw these patients returning to public medical care, for the high quality of equipment, and skills of the doctors, consultants and technical experts in treatment such as cancer. Fire Thwarted On Sunday, May 22nd, election day in Spain for the municipal elections, the “Infoca” fire service responded to a call from Arboleas where a severe fire was getting close to a large group of linked properties, termed by the Spanish as “Una Urbanizacion”. The fire brigade arrived very quickly, together will a large helicopter that start dumping water on the fire. So Now You Know... Q-Tips, or Cotton Buds Leo Gerstenzang was a Polish-born American who watched his wife clean their baby's ear with cotton stuck onto the end of a toothpick. Leo improved on the design by using a wooden stick with cotton at both ends. In 1920 he started the Infant Novelty Company and called his product "Baby Gays". He changed the name to Q-Tips Baby Gays in 1926, the "Q" stood for quality. Eventually he simply called them Q-Tips. Useful for many things, doctors now consider they should not be used for cleaning inside ears! Spark Plugs Oliver Lodge was a radio pioneer but designed the "Lodge Igniter" which produced a spark to ignite the petrol vapour in "internal combustion" engines. His sons continued with development and formed the Lodge Plug Company. A Frenchman, Albert Champion, formed the Champion Ignition Company in 1904 in Michigan, USA and became the dominant manufacturer. Champion was a bicycle and motorbike racer who had gone to America to race. He started producing improved spark plugs as a sideline to support his racing. He lost control of the company, but founded another one, the AC Spark Plug Co in 1908. The Avon Lady The first “Avon Lady” was a man! David McConnell was selling books door to door and thought of the idea of a free gift to get him over the doorstep. He used a blend of scent and found that women liked that, but not his books! He and an investor became the “California Perfume Company”, marketing the “Little Dot Perfume Set”. Mrs. P.F.E. Albee became the first door to door sales lady and by 1887 there were 12 women selling. McConnell lived in Suffern, and it reminded him of Stratford-On-Avon. In 1939, two years after Mc Connell had died, the company name was officially changed to “Avon Products Inc.”

Microwave Ovens Like many things microwave ovens were discovered by mistake! An engineer Dr Percy Spancer was working on a radar-related research project in 1946. He was testing a magnetron (which generated low energy microwaves) when he discovered it had melted a candy bar in his pocket. Intrigued, he repeated the "cooking" on popcorn and an egg - which blew up! By 1947 the first commercial microwave oven was available to industrial kitchens. They were enormous, nearly 2 metres high, extremely heavy and needed water cooling. Duct Tape The Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M) invented a waterproof tape in 1942 to keep moisture out of ammunition boxes. Cotton duck was processed to make the tape that became known as “Duck Tape”. The military found it was wonderful for fixing guns and jeeps, and it was used on aircraft. After the war, the colour was changed from green to silver, and it became invaluable in fixing air conditioning and heating ducting, and the name was changed to “Duct Tape”. In the 1970s, “Manco Inc.” supplied the tape in shrink wrap, making it easier for retailers to stock the sticky tape. It became available in a wide range of colours, used to fix everything.

Chewing Gum For centuries people have chewed gum-like substances. Lumps of spruce gum were sold during the early 1800's in the US. By 1850, people chewed sweetened paraffin wax. A Mexican General who chewed "chicle" as it was called, gave some to an inventor - Thomas Adams in New York. Adams tried to make toys and rain shoes from chicle but was not successful. One day, fed up, Adams was chewing a piece of chicle and realised he could add flavour to it. Abandoning toys and shoes, he opened the first chewing gum factory instead.

Major Election Scandal at MojĂĄcar?

very election, whether for the President of the United States or any small village, is often messy, with allegations of vote buying, rigging, or other skullduggery. Following the municipal elections in Spain on May 22nd, with nine parties in Mojacar, there is a complaint (allegedly with solid evidence) that a rigging of the postal votes took place, with turmoil on election night, both before the voting closed, and after the votes were counted. The official denuncia was made jointly by eight of the nine parties, against the PP led by Rosa Maria Cano. The registering of a serious complaint by eight parties is unprecedented even in Mojacar. The official complaint lodged with the Fiscalia in Almeria (Almeria prosecutorâ€™s office) on May 27th was made by the leader of the PSOE party (socialist party) against the PP (conservative party). The denuncia asks that the 515 postal votes that represented 18.30% of the votes cast (the average number in Almeria is 3%) are investigated. The allegation is that over 80% of the postal votes were for the PP party, including 69 registered Rumanian voters who had never voted before. The question being asked is why couldnâ€™t these voters come to the Mojacar school in person; were they all disabled or were they working all day, and if so where? It is alleged that some other voters, not resident in Mojacar, were registered as occupants of certain properties with addresses of PP candidates or relatives. Another allegation in the denuncia is that the Presidents of the voting tables asked that the postal votes should not be introduced in the ballot box on election day. The Mojacar Council Secretary was present as a representative of the Junta Electoral de la Zona (JEZ), the area judicial department of the census office. It is alleged she blocked this request until it was too late to contact the Almeria electoral Junta representative and she misled the table presidents into believing she personally contacted Almeria. The Presidents of

the tables asked to be notified of a decision regarding the postal votes in writing and the notice be sent back to them by fax, but it did not happen. They state that the inclusion of the 515 postal votes was done solely on her verbal request when flanked by 2 local Police officers, although at the beginning she stated that the Presidents had the last word in making a decision. The presidents of the voting and counting tables have given statements concerning the postal votes kept separate with over 80% for the PP. A speedy investigation is requested at the Fiscalia to be put before a judge so that all voters legally entitled to vote are satisfied that the election was not a subject of fraud. If fraud is proved, the PP majority of elected Mojacar councillors might become a minority group. At the time of going to press, the currently elected Mayoress, Rosa Maria Cano, is due to be officially inaugurated on June 11th, the Saturday of Moors and Christians weekend. The salary of councillors in power is decided by the majority, in this case seven councillors, all from the PP. The official salary is about 2.600 euros per month, with 14 payments per year. The previous Mojacar council, led by Rosa Maria Cano, agreed to take only 50% as an austerity measure. Councillors in the opposition (six in the case of Mojacar) receive no salary.

Heavy Metal Fells Shakira Concert

n June 1st, at about 5pm, various Internet sites and blogs began to report that the “Concert of the Year” with the Columbian singer Shakira scheduled to start at 10pm was cancelled. Over a thousand people were queuing outside the 2005 Mediterranean Games Stadium just outside Almería city, where they could see the enormous gantries at each corner of the 500m2 stage. Free buses conveying fans and ticket holders had already started to arrive, and were scheduled to operate every 20 minutes, through an agreement with Almería city tourist department and ‘Surbus.’ As the news spread through the internet and SMS messages, the Shakira press office who had themselves quietly released the cancellation notices, denied that the concert was cancelled. They didn’t want a riot outside the stadium! Shakira’s own 300 security staff were briefed, and cancellation notices were put on the outside walls of the stadium at 8pm near the entrance doors, although they were supposed to have been opened at 6pm. There was a moment when fans converged outside the entrance which the supporting band and other staff were reportedly using, with a large block of seats nearby reserved for “Administration”. They demanded that Shakira appear herself and explain the cancellation, thinking she was inside, but her private jet and personal security staff had been stood down just before 5pm, and Shakira told that her only concert in Andalucía, part of her world tour, was not happening.

This distorted the gantry. Jose Rodríquez, managing director of ‘Musiserve Producciones’ in association with ‘Live Nation España’ held a press conference at 9pm. He stated that the Almería city structural and event inspectors, together with insurance policy representatives, had agreed after six hours of talks that a large crane used to erect the gantries and horizontal beams should become a “solution”, if the crane took the weight of the damaged gantry. However, the person responsible for the complete stage area had decided, and it was his decision alone, that he was not prepared to risk any danger to Shakira, her band, his backstage staff, nor the public. He cancelled the concert. Shakira cannot come back during this world tour. She apologized profusely to her fans, saying she was desolated.

They went on to say that the only ticket holders not able to claim were where the tickets had been bought and sold on by a middle man. They pointed out that the law of Andalucía, of 15th December, 13/1999, concerning large events, concerts and major shows applied. Another law governs the return of the monies paid, stipulating a period of

four days maximum, starting from the exact time the event was officially cancelled, when refunds have to be available. This is the Decree 10, of 2003, passed by the Andalucían Parliament.

Carmen - “Heiress to the Throne”

armen Chacón is an “Almeriense” which means she was born and grew up in Almería province. She is currently Minister of Defence in the Spanish Socialist Government now in power, led by the Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. Carmen is relatively young to hold this position at the age of 40; she is well liked, highly intelligent, decisive and considered to be an excellent Minister of Defence, during a difficult time. Soon after she was given this title, obviously pregnant, she went on maternity leave to have her first child, but was soon back on the job. Criticism of a woman holding this extremely important post, and then going off on maternity leave, was soon muted by her excellent performance. She is considered the rising star of the PSOE party, destined for even higher office. Prime Minister Zapatero has made known his decision to step down as head of the party in 2012. Carmen was put forward as a candidate to succeed him, along with Peréz Rubalcaba, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. Peréz Rubalcaba is an elder statesman, well respected and with an impeccable political history. He

has personally supervised the counter terrorism activities against “ETA” the Basque terrorist organization, almost decimated them and never gives up pursuing their members and assassins. The contest for leadership of the PSOE party, and also the post of Prime Minister assuming the PSOE was successful in the next national elections was therefore a contest between Peréz, a respected and highly motivated senior party figure, and the younger, less experienced Carmen Chacón, also highly regarded. The party members were obviously going to have to make a very difficult voting decision. Following the 2011 municipal elections throughout Spain on May 22nd, the PSOE received a distinct warning from the voters. They were castigated for the unemployment situation, the Spanish economic crisis and plans for recovery. The PP (Conservative type party) received an astounding number of votes, a real backlash against the government policy. Prime Minister Zapatero was very concerned that his PSOE party should be shown to be strong and decisive. Both Carmen and Peréz were invited to talk in depth with him, particularly on Tuesday May 24th. On Thursday May 26th, Carmen Chacón held a press conference attended by senior political figures and journalists and photographers from many countries. Fighting back tears she explained that for the good of the PSOE party, and in order to ensure the party made a step forward, she was taking a step back and was withdrawing her name as a candidate to be head of the party. This would ensure that it was a one horse race, and Peréz Rubalcaba would be unopposed in the vote for party leader, and future Prime Minister. She told the listeners that she had informed Zapatero by telephone, prior to calling the press conference. Many of her supporters and party faithfuls openly cried, but applauded her integrity in stepping down. Carmen stated that she had withdrawn from this party leadership contest, but she would stand again in the future. She received a standing ovation. José Montilla, a leading politician who groomed her for office, described her decision as heartrending, but magnificent. Carmen Chacón, the woman from Almería and then Barcelona, will live to fight again, with political youth, determination and people power.

What’s On Concerts The 7th Pulpop Music Festival takes place in Roquetas bull ring on Saturday July 9th. The lineup includes the group ‘Sexy Sadie, Brighton 64’ and the Almerian group ‘Proyecto Solaz’. El Ejido Festival ‘Dragon Dagoll’ perform their new version of “La Noche de San Juan” on June 11th at 10pm in the El Ejido Auditorium, followed by the Theatre Company ‘Che y Moche’ at the Parque Municipal, closing the festival. Creamfields Andalucía 2011 will take place in Jerez de la Frontera, (Cádiz), on August 13th & 14th. ’The Progidy’ head the list of performers and the first 3,000 tickets are 50 euros. Exhibitions Rafael Martínez Ruiz has an exhibition of his oil paintings,

entitled “impresiones” until June 30th at the Hotel Puntazo Gallery. “La Forma del Tiempo” is the title of a photographic exhibition by Eduardo Santillana with many photographs of the Cabo de Gata area. The exhibition is at the Sala de Arte, Carmen de Burgos Hotel, Rodalquilar, Nijar until June 12th. Opening hours are from 10am10pm. T h e M u s e o Ta u r i n o a t Roquetas has an exhibition of more than 50 painting or other art forms, organized by ‘The Peña Taurina Roquetas de Mar’ relating to bull fighting. Items include “Picador en el portón de la salida” a lithograph by Pablo Picasso. All works come from the private collection of the Sena Ruiz family, and the exhibition is open until the end of June. Opening houses are mornings and evenings from Tuesday to Saturday and mornings on Sundays and Fiesta Days. It was many years ago since the embarrassing day when a young woman, with a baby in her arms, entered his butcher shop and confronted him with the news that the baby was his and asked what was he going to do about it? When the boy arrived home he told his mother. The woman nodded and said, "Son, go back to the butcher and tell him I have also had free bread, free milk, and free groceries for the last 16 years and watch theexpression on HIS face!"

While leading the Friday evening services, the Rabbi noticed a member of the congregation, Bernie, walk in with a St. Bernard dog. The Rabbi is so shocked he listens for a full 15 minutes. When the Rabbi regains his composure, he is so impressed with the quality of the praying he says to Bernie. "Do you think your dog would consider going to Rabbinical school????" Bernie, throwing up his hands in disgust says, "YOU TALK TO HIM! He wants to be a doctor!"
