Back to School Information 2022- 2023

All Saints Episcopal School is a community dedicated to academic excellence in a secure and supportive Christian environment.

Letter from our Head of School Dear All Saints Families, We have lots of great energy moving into 2022-2023! A number of new office staff, faculty, and families are joining the All Saints community, and our teachers are already working on plans for the upcoming year. Please look in this publication for a listing of all the teachers and staff and their positions and/or teaching assignments. There is also a section with a brief introduction and a picture of each of the new faculty and staff. In addition, we are excited to share that a new SmartLab will be installed at the beginning of August. The first in our area, this STEM lab will be used by all students in grades K-8. Most of all, we are looking forward to returning to in-person events on our campus, beginning with our campus visits for PK3-K students and our Back to School Nights. These dates can be found on the August calendar included in this booklet. Our Back to School Information publication provides helpful information for our families, including an overview of the upcoming year, volunteer opportunities, medical forms, and much more. You will also find our 2022-2023 calendar which is filled with opportunities for our families, faculty, and staff to join forces to make a difference in the lives of our students. Please take note of the sections referencing fundraising and communication at All Saints. We are excited about our plans to continue to provide an educational experience dedicated to academic excellence in a secure and supportive Christian environment. Our plans are ambitious and require all of us to participate so we can continue to grow and provide a school that will remain on the path to excellence. I am looking forward to joining together as a community to provide another wonderful year of growth and happy memorymaking for your children. Thank you for your continued trust and support. Yours in Partnership, Scootie Clark Head of School

Letter from our Board President Dear All Saints Community, I would like to welcome all of our new and returning students, faculty, staff and administrators to the 2022-2023 school year! The beginning of the school year offers our community the opportunity to reflect on past accomplishments as we move forward with our mission, vision and core values in mind. The last two years have presented challenges on many levels but I believe we rose to the occasion and tackled them with the competence and commitment that sets us apart. I know many of you had to make personal sacrifices and compromises during this time, and we are forever grateful for the trust you put in us to navigate this process. In the Spring, we saw the beginning of the return to normalcy. It was wonderful to see our parents back on campus and the energy and excitement that interaction brought to our students, faculty, staff and administration. We also saw the return to various fundraising and school events that allowed us to come together once again. I know we all missed those opportunities and have come to appreciate them even more. It is the community spirit of All Saints that makes us strong! As we move into the new school year, please know it has been a true honor to serve as the President of the Board of Trustees these last few years. Through this opportunity I have witnessed firsthand the passion and dedication in which our administration, faculty, staff and board all work together to make All Saints the premier educational institution in Southeast Texas. I know that with that continued dedication, All Saints will always remain the community leader in education. Sincerely, Kelly Henry President of the All Saints Board of Trustees

New Faculty Bios NIKKI ANDREPONT Hello! I’m thrilled to be joining the faculty of All Saints as Assistant to Admissions and Advancement/Alumni Coordinator. I have lived in Southeast Texas my entire life. I have been married to my husband Chris for 15 years. We have two boys. Drake is a freshman at Hardin-Jefferson High School, he plays golf and made the Varsity team. Ford is in the 4th grade at Sour Lake Elementary, he is on the student council and loves to play football and basketball. We have two four legged children (dogs) as well Lola and Gypsy. I enjoy daily devotionals, Dr. Pepper fountain drinks, Dateline, and naps! My favorite places to be are the Frio or Guadalupe River and anywhere in the Hill Country. I can’t wait for my newest chapter in life here with such a recognized school as All Saints. I plan to give each task as much enthusiasm as possible and help All Saints prosper by applying the techniques I have learned during my previous experiences.

WENDY ARDIS Hello Vikings! My name is Wendy Ardis and I feel blessed to be one of the new Administrative Assistants working the front desk. I began my career in education in 2013 at Vidor Junior High School where I taught English and coached volleyball and track. I am so excited to start a new chapter in my life outside of the classroom and gymnasium! My husband and I have been married for 21 years and are proud parents of two amazing children. My daughter is a member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Class of ‘25 where she is majoring in Business with a double minor in Communications and Human Resources. Whoop! My son will be a Junior at Vidor High School and is starting middle linebacker for the Vidor Pirates football team. Go #44! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my kids and husband, shopping, playing volleyball, hunting, fishing, and 12

New Faculty Bios visiting our property in Segovia, Texas where my husband runs a hunting guide service. I am so grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to being a new member of the All-Saints Episcopal School family!

I am a senior at Lamar University majoring in Psychology and minoring in Communications. I am a fifth year member on the Lamar Cheerleading Team and served as the 2021-2022 Captain. My love for coaching started at Kelly Catholic High School where I will be starting my second year as the assistant coach, as well. My cheerleading career started at All Saints when I was only four years old and I have loved the sport ever since. I am so excited to coach for my alma mater and help others experience the same love for cheerleading that I did when I was a student. I can’t wait to work with your kids and help instill school spirit into this amazing environment. Go Vikings!

HOLLY CHESSHER My name is Holly Chessher, and I am tremendously honored to be joining the All Saints family as a 4th Grade teacher! Growing up in Southeast Texas, I graduated from West Brook and Lamar University, beginning my teaching career in 1998. I earned my Master’s in Educational Leadership from Lamar in May. As part of my professional growth, I will continue to incorporate the 21st Century skills that students need for future success in today’s global arena. Guiding students to reach their full potential while supporting their unique approaches to learning drives me to be the best teacher I can be. I believe in empowering students to take ownership of their learning and embracing

challenges as part of academic and social growth. I have learned that curating relationships is essential to student success, and I look forward to serving the wonderful families of ASES!

Philanthropy at All Saints

Ways to Give at All Saints

Over its sixty-eight year history, the Board and administration of All Saints have carefully planned for the financial health of the school. This allows over 80% of tuition paid by parents to support teacher salaries. All Saints has also committed to regularly investing in new tools and techniques that enhance the learning process for all students. Additionally, the school provides rich opportunities for professional development for teachers. These enhancements to the All Saints experience are paid for primarily by The Fund for All Saints, our annual giving drive, and proceeds from the Gala hosted by the Parent Association in the spring semester.

MIDDLE SCHOOL RENOVATION CAMPAIGN Our 26 year old Middle School building is in need of interior renovation. Plans are underway to bring the interiors up to date and supportive of 21st century educational methods. We are working with the leading-edge educational interior design firm Library Interiors from Austin, Texas on plans for new furnishings, paint, foyer layout, and more. The total cost will be $650,000, and the renovations will take place in the summer of 2023. These interior updates will bring the Middle School building in line with the rest of the state-of-the-art campus buildings. Fundraising for this project has begun. Please contact Melanie Heartfield if you are interested in donating.

The Board of Trustees prepares for future needs of the school in an ongoing strategic planning process stretching five years ahead. Capital Campaigns or other specific fundraising initiatives are organized as needed. Currently, the Advancement Office is seeking funds for the Scholarship Endowment with the ultimate goal of the Endowment fully funding our Financial Aid program. We are also seeking donations for the renovation of the interior of the Middle School building, to take place in the summer of 2023. Please feel free to call or visit me at any time if you are interested in helping to secure the brightest financial future possible for All Saints.

SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE INITIATIVES Over the past few years, requests for tuition assistance have greatly increased at All Saints. The Board of Trustees is committed to making an All Saints education accessible to as many qualified students as possible. The growing Scholarship Endowment is providing funds to offset the cost of providing tuition assistance to our students.

Melanie Heartfield, Director of Advancement: mheartfield@asesbmt.org or 409-892-1755 THE FUND FOR ALL SAINTS All In For All Saints In Honor of our Teachers

Donations to The Fund for All Saints benefit each student every year. The Fund for All Saints Campaign will begin in September this year and will conclude by Christmas break. This year, The Fund honors our extraordinary teachers. Parents may make donations in honor of specific faculty members - past and present - and honorees will be notified of dedicated gifts. In recent years, The Fund has focused on providing for technology needs and faculty professional development opportunities as well as providing enrichment materials for art, music and drama. Whether a student is receiving a new iPad or Chromebook or benefits from a new method of teaching, The Fund for All Saints enables us to secure the tools necessary for a first-rate education for each student. We invite every parent to make a gift to The Fund for All Saints every year, at whatever level fits with their family’s finances. Vital to The Fund’s success are parent volunteers who help solicit support from our parent community. Through their efforts, 97% of current parents donated to The Fund in 14

2021-22, raising over $265,000 for our school. Every gift regardless of size is significant and greatly appreciated. Pledges are made in the fall and may be paid over the course of the school year. Donations are also tax-deductible.

ASPA Gala Let’s Fiesta! Beaumont Event Centre March 31, 2023 Sponsored by the All Saints Parent Association The annual All Saints Parent Association Gala is our largest fundraiser of the year. This year, we are excited to announce that the All Saints Parent Association will host its Gala at the Event Centre. This fun-filled casual event will feature a live and silent auction and other exciting entertainment. Volunteers are needed to help secure auction items, assist with student art projects, decorate the venue, and promote the event. Funds raised by the ASPA Gala will benefit the school.

SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT- Currently over $3.4million The All Saints Scholarship Endowment was established a number of years ago with the generous support of Walter and Sheila Umphrey. In 2020, Sheila Umphrey gave another significant gift to the Scholarship Endowment, which increased the total to over $2.7 million. The purpose of this endowment is to provide tuition assistance for mission-appropriate students whose families are unable to afford the full cost of attending All Saints. From the Endowment’s interest and dividends we are able to provide financial assistance to deserving students each year. Named Endowed Scholarships may be established by families or individuals with a minimum donation of $50,000 over three years. Nine named scholarships have been created: The Raj Reddy Scholarship, The Parent Association Scholarship, The Low Family Scholarship, The Memorial Scholarship, The McAllen Family Scholarship Fund, The BMWL Scholarship, The Wilton and Effie Mae Hebert Foundation Scholarship, The Carla and Josh Allen, Sr. Scholarship, and The Sheila Umphrey Scholarship Fund. SHORT-TERM SCHOLARSHIP DONATIONS We are also seeking donations for financial assistance to be used in the current school year. Financial difficulties may arise during the year for families, and funds may be made available to assist with tuition in such situations. Any size donation to the operating budget for financial assistance is greatly appreciated and granted thoughtfully to those with need. ATHLETIC ENDOWMENT Established on May 11, 2016 in honor of Coach Dave Thomas Dave Thomas coached All Saints boys and girls’ basketball teams for twelve years and made a lasting impact on students, encouraging them to grow in both athletic skills and character. The Athletic Endowment Fund will assist in funding essential needs of the Athletic Department. FACULTY FUNDS All Saints is proud of its outstanding faculty who exhibit a growth mindset and continually seek to improve their professional skills. Two funds are available to support teachers in this quest for growth in knowledge. MAREE M. CALCOTE FUND FOR FACULTY The Maree M. Calcote Fund for Faculty was established with generous donations given through the years by The Reverend Dean and Maree Calcote. The purpose of the fund is to provide unique learning opportunities for faculty who are interested in continuing educational experiences to enhance their teaching. CONN FACULTY CHAIR CW and Dorothy Anne Conn were supportive All Saints parents and grandparents for many years. The Conn Faculty Chair was established to provide annual awards for faculty to pursue life-long development and learning opportunities. 15

Miscellaneous Expenses at All Saints All Saints is keenly aware of the sacrifice our parents make to enroll their children in our school. In addition to tuition, we rely heavily on our fundraising campaigns to augment expenses tuition alone cannot cover. With this in mind, we have worked to limit the amount of incidental expenses incurred during the year so our parents can redirect their funds and be able to participate in our annual fundraising activities. We have compiled a list of miscellaneous expenses and hope this allows you to plan accordingly. Payments for some of these items will be accepted during our Back to School Round-Up (see checklist).

Device Insurance Information

All Saints Episcopal School Device Damage Agreement Policy All Saints recognizes there is a need to protect the investment in iPads/Chromebooks by both the school and the student/parent. This document outlines options for the protection of the iPad/Chromebook against damage. Insurance Coverage Insurance coverage is required to cover iPad/Chromebook repair and replacement in the event of damage. It does not cover the loss of the iPad/Chromebook. In prior years, the iPad insurance for students in K-1 was less since they were not sent home with students. This year, we will frequently be sending the iPads home for assignments and in the event students are ill and need to stay home for an extended period of time. • The insurance coverage premium is a non-refundable $40 payment per student for grades K - 8. • Premiums will not be prorated for partial years or semesters. • This plan will not cover the loss or damage of the iPad/Chromebook case or charging unit. Students/parents will be responsible for the full cost to replace those items. • In cases of theft, vandalism and other criminal acts, a police or fire report MUST be filed by the parent. A copy of the police/fire report must be provided to the Head of School. The student will then receive a replacement iPad/Chromebook under this coverage.

*Insurance coverage will be online for parents in grades K- 8 for their acknowledgment and agreement.

All repairs will be handled through the school. This equipment is, and at all times remains, the property of All Saints Episcopal School and is subject to inspection at any time.
