T
his past year, more than any other, I have been humbled by the outpouring of love and support of the All Saints community and am grateful for the evidence of God’s unfailing presence and guidance. How is it that out of all the challenges we have faced this past year (Hurricane Harvey, three ice events, multiple flu epidemics, a small explosive device left at the neighboring church...), GRATITUDE is on the cover of this Annual Report? Because the gratitude we have felt, the gratitude we have witnessed, and the gratitude we hold dear in our hearts is what will remain with us forever. Melody Beattie’s quote is a reminder of the power of gratitude as we reflect on All Saints, from our roots, to the accomplishments of today, and our plans for tomorrow. Gratitude makes sense of our past... Each year we are more and more grateful for our founding families, our two supporting parishes (St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church), the generosity of our past donors, the leadership of our past administrations, faculty, staff and Board of Trustees, and the countless families and students who brought us to this phenomenal place in time, poised for growth and greatness in the 21st Century. Gratitude brings peace for today... With each new challenge during this past year, God’s peace was palpable and gave us opportunities to be grateful for His grace. All Saints encountered God’s peace in many forms: • Donations, prayers, and helping hands from alumni and friends in the community to support flood victims • Outstanding faculty commitment going above and beyond to make sure each student received everything they needed, even after multiple school closures
• An incredibly active Parent Association strategically planning community-building events to remind us how much we enjoy being together and to provide respite from the stress of our storm ravaged area • Highly responsive and caring law enforcement agents, working in tandem with our calm and well prepared faculty and staff, ensuring comfort and safety in the midst of the explosive event at St. Stephen’s and for the remainder of the school year Gratitude creates a vision for tomorrow… Our gratitude inspires us to dream big and strive for more. Whether it is planning for future growth of the school, researching new curriculum, providing professional development on innovative strategies and methodologies, or reviewing and revising campus security and emergency plans, we can confidently create a vision for tomorrow, grateful for the blessings that sustain us. Take a few moments and flip through the following pages of our 2017-2018 Annual Report. As much as I have been humbled by the outpouring of love and support of the All Saints community this past year, I am equally humbled by the opportunity to serve as your Head of School. for the “Head of School for the Day” auction item, Ayden Albanese reported to the front office dressed for the part. Ayden began his day-long tenure by greeting students in carpool. He then made announcements in chapel, conducted surveys with the student body, and enjoyed a working lunch with Mrs. Clark. Whatever path Ayden chooses for his future profession we know it will involve making people feel welcome, thanking them for their service, and showing up in a great looking outfit!

Our Board of Trustees continues to strategically plan for the future growth of All Saints, constantly navigating our financial stability, maintaining our beautiful buildings and grounds, and ensuring the school follows our mission to be a community dedicated to academic excellence in a secure and supportive Christian environment. This past year, our Board diligently endorsed the efforts of the school with their prayers, their on-campus presence, and their pledge of continued leadership. t is with a grateful heart that I reminisce about the past school year while serving as All Saints Parent Association President. It was a privilege to work with such wonderful and dedicated parent volunteers as we kicked off a challenging school year with unforgettable Hurricane Harvey. All that we accomplished would not have been possible without their faithful commitment. I would like to express my gratitude to the ASPA Executive Board and Committee Chairs. Through their volunteer efforts, cherished memories and new relationships were created.
H There are so many terrific ways to be involved with the ASPA. A few of these include: Family Nights, Campus Gardening, Teacher In-Service Meals, Teacher Appreciation Luncheons, School Supply Sale, New Family Reception, Spirit Shoppe, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, Faculty Fan Club, Book Fair and Carnival.
H A new experience on campus this year was Family Bingo night, which encouraged fellowship and friendly competition on our beautiful campus. The 2

first fall semester event was such a success we decided to host another in the spring semester.
H The Carnival Kick-off party was held at Amelia Farms in February. Proceeds from the live and silent auctions exceeded our expectations, as did the fabulous food and fellowship! Once again we were able to fulfill our mission to the school in providing crucial revenue including teacher wish list items and the scholarship endowment. There is tremendous joy in the gifts given by the ASPA knowing that each child’s life is enriched. Because of this support we move forward into the next year with a strong financial base. SPIRITUALITY
Spirituality is experienced throughout our campus in a variety of ways. Daily Chapel, seasonal observances, and unique school traditions allow for worship that encourages respect while strengthening each child’s personal faith and individual growth.
COMMUNITY SERVICE The All Saints Episcopal School community is called to serve in many ways. Each year, the 8th grade class hosts a Shrove Pancake Breakfast on “Fat Tuesday” to raise money for Food for the Poor. (foodforthepoor.org) Additionally, our students participate in raising funds or serving others locally, regionally, and globally. CURRICULUM & TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHTS CURRICULUM Each section of the school had new curriculum adoptions this year which incorporated research-based materials and resources. Grades K-1: Fountas and Pinnell Classroom Literacy Curriculum In July 2017, the Kindergarten and first grade teachers and administration attended a three day training on the new adopted literacy curriculum for those grades.

EXCELLENCE ACADEMIC In spite of the weather related interruptions experienced this past school year, students at All Saints embraced the 21st Century Learning opportunities put before them. We are proud of their accomplishments and GRATEFUL for our dedicated faculty who helped our students meet their goals even with rising water, ice and snow, and numerous absences due to the flu! Congratulations to Sebastian Kuriakose for receiving a Private School InterscholasticAssociation (PSIA) $750 Honorarium Scholarship recognizing his outstanding individual PSIA record. Since 4th grade Sebastian has earned 23 medals (16 gold medals) at District and 14 medals (5 gold medals) at State competitions. Pat Walters, the PSIA Executive Director, presented the award to Sebastian on May 18.

CURRICULUM & TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHTS Grades 2-3: Voyager Sopris Spelling Curriculum This curriculum supports the Neuhaus Scientific Spelling program and incorporates application of the words in a reading and writing context. Grades 5-6: New Science Curricula Both the 5th grade curriculum, Science Fusion, and the 6th grade curriculum, Life iScience, are editions that combine interactive, traditional, and technology resources. Students have access to both print and digital textbooks. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Our faculty and staff are growth minded, life-long learners. We were grateful to be able to offer them the opportunity to

TECHNOLOGY After ten years with RenWeb, All Saints adopted Blackbaud as our new school management system. This robust system seamlessly connected student data
with the enrollment program, classroom operations, and the development office. Viking Portal enabled parents to access information about their child (grades, attendance, behavior, assignments, etc.) as well as school news and school resources via the Resource Board. New iPads were purchased to replace the remaining iPad2’s which are no longer being supported by Apple. The school continues to use 1:1 iPads in grades K-5 and Chromebooks in grades 6-8. Apps for both devices and numerous webbased sites are used at all grade levels to support and enhance the curriculum.

Experienced on many levels.... HARVEY IN THE CLASSROOM Our faculty did an amazing job helping students to process their varied experiences during Hurricane Harvey, while providing a safe, loving, consistent, “normal” school day routine. At all developmental levels, our teachers responded with empathy and sensitivity. Below is a smattering of student activities related to Harvey.... • 2nd grade drew pictures of what they did while away from school. • 3rd grade drew pictures and wrote stories describing how they helped others. • 5th grade constructed venn diagrams to organize their thoughts and feelings about their Harvey experience • 7th graders caculated the effect of the rainfall: Mr. Thornton explained, “After careful dimensional analysis, we calculated the amount of water in gallons that fell on 1 acre of land, in a 45 inch rain event. We discovered 1 acre of land will have 9,775,543 pounds of water. That’s why you don’t drive through water, y’all.”
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION CHAPEL AND RECEPTION On April 18, 2018, every single person who has volunteered on campus this past year was invited to join us for a special chapel and reception honoring the generous gift of their time! We are GRATEFUL for the throngs of individuals who stepped up to lend a hand in the classroom, worked around the campus grounds, and planned events behind the scenes! We are a GREAT school because we are GREAT with volunteers! 8

FLOOD THEM WITH LOVE Our All Saints families who experienced significant damage or total loss of property due to Harvey were blessed with gift cards to aid in their recovery. All of our recipient families wish to say THANK YOU to all of those who so generously contributed to the “FLOOD THEM WITH LOVE” gift card drive!!!!!
MARY JOWERS TREE DEDICATION On the morning of January 31, 2018, All Saints hosted a beautiful tree dedication, chapel service and reception in memory of Mary Jowers. The special service was attended by members of the Jowers family and the Low family, as well as some of Mary’s closest friends. We are grateful for the years of service Mary Jowers gave to our school as an active parent and grandparent. She invigorated this campus with her infectious smile, perpetually positive attitude, and can-do spirit. A special note of thanks is also extended to Steve McGrade, past parent and past Board President, for his tireless work with the trees! Come visit the trees aptly located next to the jumping, playing, laughing children on the PK4-2nd grade playground.
Our entire faculty, staff and student body had a JOYFUL experience creating the special 21st Century Christmas Card, complete with a photo shoot by a drone-wielding All Saints alum. Special thanks to Jeffrey Trevino, ASES Class of 2005, for his expert drone maneuvers which made the vision for our Christmas greeting a reality!

PLAYGROUND DEDICATION All Saints celebrated a monumentous event in the life of our school, hosting the dedication and blessing of our newest playground! Many of the generous donors who contributed to this special capital campaign were able to join us for chapel, the blessing of the playground, and a lovely reception in the Buddy Low Dining Facility. It was a beautiful event and one more reason to feel GRATITUDE!
DONOR APPRECIATION On November 15, 2017, All Saints hosted a Donor Appreciation Luncheon to share with our generous contributors exactly how their money was spent, and to express our GRATITUDE for their benevolence. Because of these funds, every child on our campus will benefit from the advancement of their teacher’s professional development, as well as new curriculum and teaching methodologies. We are GRATEFUL!
NEW FAMILY LUNCHEON In the early fall of 2017, All Saints hosted a New Family Luncheon to help our newest members learn about how our school works: examining the financial health of our institution, revealing the many ways parents can volunteer and donate to our community, educating parents about The Fund for All Saints, and more. We are grateful to our guest speakers Mike Albanese, current parent and Board of Trustees member, as well as current parents Ally Wade and Ali Cokyaman, who helped inspire and welcome our newest family members!

Celebrating participation by current families and of faculty and staff, and Board of Trustees members!
A
ll Saints staff and the Board of Trustees work hard to keep tuition affordable while providing resources necessary for the best education in Southeast Texas. The Fund for All Saints is our most important fundraising priority because it provides the monies necessary to close the gap between tuition income and the true cost of educating a child here. The Fund for All Saints supports all of the things that make this school remarkable: an innovative and cutting-edge curriculum, technology tools and training to maximize their use in the classroom, professional development for our outstanding faculty, and materials to enhance arts education. In 2017-18, The Fund for All Saints also provided emergency tuition assistance to families who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Under the dynamic leadership of parent chairs Nikki and Mike Albanese and a dedicated committee of parent volunteers, participation by current families was 96%. For many years, 100% of faculty and staff as well as members of the Board of Trustees have given annually, and they did this year once again. The Fund greatly exceeded its goal by raising $230,000 this year! An impressive 99% payment rate for pledges resulted in essential funding for our school. We are grateful for the enthusiastic leadership provided by Nikki and Mike Albanese, as their involvement was key to the success of The Fund. Nikki and Mike’s four children are all current students at All Saints, and the entire family are wonderful ambassadors for the school to our greater community. Honorary Grandparents for this year’s Fund campaign were Sarah and Michael Matheny, both loyal supporters of All Saints for two generations. The Matheny’s belief in the mission of All Saints is obvious. The Mathenys were an integral part of the great success of this year’s Fund, making many personal calls and reaching out to encourage an extraordinary show of support by our beloved grandparent community.

“As we observe our young grandchildren Mason and Meredith participating in all the wonderful learning experiences and activities at All Saints School, we are reminded of the year we have spent as Honorary Grandparents. We have reflected on what All Saints means to our family as well as our community giving us the opportunity to support and encourage others to be a major part of All Saints School by contributing to The Fund for All Saints. In an effort to encourage involvement by our parents, the Albanese, Austin, Doshi, Gilbert, Gripon, Matheny, Parker and Sonnier families, joined together to create a challenge grant of $28,000 to be donated when 75% participation was reached. THE MANY FACETS OF PHILANTHROPY AT ALL SAINTS
Since the founding of our school 64 years ago, a culture of philanthropy has allowed All Saints to thrive. Many avenues for giving allow donors to focus their energy on initiatives that resonate with their interests. We thank donors who have given to specific funds which advance our mission.
SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT
The All Saints Scholarship Endowment was established a number of years ago with the generous support of Walter and Sheila Umphrey. The purpose of this endowment is to provide tuition assistance for mission-appropriate students whose families are unable to afford the full cost of attending All Saints. After years of donations, the Scholarship Endowment now totals over $2.1 million. From the Endowment’s interest and dividends, we are able to provide financial assistance to deserving students each year. Currently, 25% of students receive some level of tuition assistance. Named Endowed Scholarships may be established by families or individuals with a minimum donation of $50,000 given over three years. To date, four named scholarships have been created: The Raj Reddy Scholarship, the Parent Association Scholarship, the Low Family Scholarship and the Memorial Scholarship. A Transformative Gift All Saints recently received a gift of $500,000 from Diane and Don Shaver to boost the Scholarship Endowment to over $2.1 million. Diane and Don have long been loyal and generous supporters of our school, having seen first hand the benefits of an All Saints education for their three children, Blake, Scott and Claire. The Shavers recognize the need for financial assistance has grown tremendously in the past years, and they want to help make an All Saints experience accessible for qualified students. We are thankful for the legacy Diane and Don are leaving to provide education for many students now and into the future.

We are also securing donations for financial assistance to be used in the current school year. Financial difficulties sometimes arise during the year and funds may be made available to assist with tuition in such situations. Created in honor of all Parent Association volunteers, this scholarship will be awarded to a student with financial need who demonstrates a spirit of service. This award increased in 2018 with a $20,000 gift from this year’s fundraisers.

HAPPY RETIREMENT MAURICE! DR. DAVID WILLARD RECEIVES SPECIAL AWARD & RECOGNITION
On the afternoon of May 14, 2018, family, friends and colleagues gathered in the Calcote Library and Discovery Center to honor Maurice Ritchie and his incredible contributions to All Saints Episcopal School. Mr. Ritchie, our resident fix it man, was so much more than a Director of Maintenance. Maurice spent his 18 years at All Saints immersing himself in the life of the school and participating on every level. Mr. Ritchie was always eager to lend a hand or a power tool when students requested his skills and leadership constructing a project. He played the djembe drums on several occasions, performing at chapel services, Christmas pageants, and pep rallies. He is an avid photographer and generously shared his picture taking skills at campus events. He brightened our days with jokes, puns, and that everpresent, award-winning smile. Maurice Ritchie’s absence will be palpable in the years to come, but we bid him Godspeed as he continues to fix, build and brighten the lives around him during his well-deserved retirement!
Connie Wooten is a past Executive Director of the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools, our accrediting body, which covers Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Arizona. To honor Ms. Wooten on the occasion of her recent retirement, four Excellence in Teaching awards have been created in her name. Our very own Dr. David Willard, Middle School Dean of Students and 8th Grade literature teacher, was nominated and chosen for the SAES Connie Wooten Excellence in Teaching - Middle and Upper Grades Award. In August of 2017, Dr. Willard was notified that he was the inaugural recipient of this auspicious honor and was presented with the award at the Biennial SAES Conference in Houston, Texas. We are so proud of Dr. Willard’s achievement and we are grateful for the honor and prestige it has brought to All Saints.

CROSS COUNTRY Even though our season was interrupted by Harvey, All Saints performed well in Cross Country. This season the boys’ team collected 8 medals while the girls’ team picked up 7 for a total of 15 medals (almost 4 per meet). Massad Makdsi medaled in all 4 meets and his brother Michael medaled in the 3 meets he attended. On the girls’ side, Taylor Vogt collected 3 medals for the season, finishing in the medal round in all the meets she attended. The boys’ team finished in 5th place at the Tony Munson Invitational in Liberty out of 17 teams. The girls’ team finished in 2nd place in both the Lumberton and SETX MS Conference meets. They also finished in 5th place in Liberty out of 22 competing teams. Congratulations for a great effort!

SOCCER Soccer had a strong showing. The “Red” team finished the season undefeated (8-0) to win the league championship for the fourth year in a row. The “Blue” team finished their season with a record of 2-2 and continued to grow as a team
GIRLS BASKETBALL The girls basketball season saw the 8th grade finish with their best record since 2014. They finished the year with a record of 16-2. They placed 2nd in our tournament and 1st in the St. Anne tournament. This put them in a
VOLLEYBALL Thanks to Harvey and a slow start to the year, the girls finished off the season very strong. The “A” team won consolation at the St. Anne tournament and finished with a record of 9-5 placing them third overall in the league. The “B” team’s record of 4-8 does not reflect the hard work and competitiveness these girls displayed on the court. Mostly made up of 6th graders, the “B” team completed mainly against 7th grade teams. A few of our young players enjoyed volleyball so much that they tried out for club volleyball teams. The future of All Saints volleyball is bright!

tie for first place in the league. The 7th grade team finished with a record of 2 wins and 4 losses. This team mostly consisted of 6th graders. It was fun to watch them grow as they competed in games against older girls. BOYS BASKETBALL Boys basketball had a very successful season. The 8th grade team finished with a record of 16 wins and 8 losses finishing 3rd in our league. These boys played hard on the court and showed their Viking heart in every game. Out of our 8 losses, 7 of the losses were by 5 points or less. The future looks very bright for these boys. The 7th grade team finished with a record of 6 wins and 10 losses. The record does not indicate the level at which these kids played – two of the losses were to other 8th grade teams, and 3 more of the losses were to other schools’ “A” teams. Overall the boys enjoyed the season while the fans enjoyed watching the tremendous growth of skills on the court.

TENNIS The tennis team finished the season in 2nd place in the league. They lost 3 tough matches to St. Anne, and won 3 matches against Community Christian. Coach Russell was able to incorporate all of our team members in active play to help develop their talent. With 8 of our 12 members on the team being 6th or 7th grade students, we have an exciting future of tennis to look forward to at All Saints.

TRACK Our track meet was held on April 20, 2018 at Lamar University. We had 60 students able to participate who represented All Saints in a way that made us all proud. In the 7th and 8th grade division we placed 3rd overall. In the 5th and 6th grade division we placed 2nd overall. The weather was perfect – track and field participants and spectators alike had a great time being out there supporting the Vikings.

SOFTBALL We had 12 girls come out for the softball team this year with a majority of the players being 5th graders. Out of these 12 girls, there were only 4 who had any prior softball experience. The girls improved all year and the experience they gained will help our softball team be contenders in the future.

CHEERLEADERS & MASCOT The ASV Cheerleaders attended summer camp and scored highly in every category. All American cheerleaders selected were Morgan Miles and Olivia Daleo. The Cheerleaders conducted four Pep Rallies, volunteered in the Neches River Parade, assisted in school activities, and cheered on ASV athletes. AUDREY ALBANESE All Saints set such an amazing foundation for me through the outstanding academics as well as the athletics. Also going to chapel every morning was such a unique experience that I learned to love. I didn’t realize how well All Saints had prepared me for the next step of my life until I entered high school. I felt fully prepared and without a doubt in my mind, that I was going to be a successful student and athlete due to my time at All Saints. My introduction into cross country allowed me to not only achieve every high school goal of mine, but it helped to completely exceed my expectations of how far I could go. Not to mention all of the lifelong friendships I made with my fellow classmates and the wonderful staff.
