About Gretel Bueta (née Tippett)

Gretel Bueta is an Australian netball player and former basketball player who graduated from All Saints in 2010. After playing Basketball for the Australian Institute of Sport in the Women’s National Basketball League during the 2010/2011 season, Gretel decided to pursue a professional career in Netball in 2012 - and hasn’t looked back since.

Some of her professional highlights include representing Australia at the 2019 Netball World Cup, the 2022 Commonwealth games and at six consecutive Constellation Cup test series between 2015 and 2021.

Gretel delivered a standout performance on behalf of the Queensland Firebirds in the 2022 Netball Quad Series with a 93% shooting accuracy, earning her player of the match. In that same year, Gretel welcomed her first child into the world and was also named the Firebirds’ Most Valuable Player.

About Ben Daley

Ben Daley is a former professional rugby union player and proud All Saints alumnus.

Best known for his time with the Queensland Reds, Daley played as a prop and was instrumental in their 2011 Super Rugby championship win. He earned 13 caps representing Australia with the Wallabies between 2010 and 2012. Renowned for his scrummaging strength and leadership, Daley was also an advocate for player welfare and community engagement throughout his career.

After retiring, he transitioned into leadership roles within sport and business, continuing his commitment to excellence on and off the field.

About Sam Norton-Knight

Sam Norton-Knight is a former professional rugby union player who graduated from All Saints in 2000. Known for his speed, skill, and versatility, Sam played across fly-half, fullback, and centre throughout his career.

He began his professional journey with the ACT Brumbies before joining the NSW Waratahs and later the Western Force in Super Rugby. In 2007, Sam achieved national honours, earning two Test caps for the Wallabies against Wales and Fiji.

His rugby career also took him abroad, playing for Cardiff Blues in Wales and several leading clubs in Japan. Sam’s path from All Saints to the international stage highlights his determination, adaptability, and commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

NETBALL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. General Information

1.1. All games will follow the standard Netball rules as Stated by The International Netball Federation, unless otherwise stated in this document.

1.2. Before the start of the first game, the names of up to ten (10) players, one of whom shall be the captain, must be provided to the Netball convenor. No additions or substitutions are permitted to the team list.

1.3. The carnival is open to invited teams only.

1.4. Each school team must be accompanied by a qualified teacher from the school.

2. Eligibility of teams

2.1. This is a school-based netball competition, and as such all competitors must be an enrolled student in the school and year level they are representing.

2.2. Each player may only be registered and compete for a single team at any time during the competition.

2.3. Teams are restricted to a maximum of TEN (10) players.

2.4. Any infringement of the Conditions of Entry and Playing Conditions could result in immediate disqualification from the carnival.

2.5. All participants must abide by the Netball Queensland “Code of Behaviour ” - refer to the Netball Queensland website (www.qld.netball.com.au).

2.6. Each team must supply a competent umpire per team. Primary school students are not permitted to umpire; high school students may be used as umpires. Umpires will be umpiring their own team.

PLAYING CONDITIONS

3. Draw

3.1. No alterations to the draw will be made without the approval of the GTT Carnival Committee.

3.2. There will be no refund of fees if a team withdraws after the draw is completed.

3.3. Each team will play a minimum of five (5) games throughout the day.

3.4. Umpires will umpire their school team throughout the day.

3.5. If there are two pools, a final cross over round will be played to determine the winning team.

4. Games

4.1. All games shall consist of two halves of ten (10) minutes each, with an interval of three (3) minutes. Teams shall change ends each half.

4.2 Game ball provided and must be used for each game.

4.3. There will be no Captain’s toss at the beginning of games. A chosen player from each team will do “scissors, paper rock” to determine first center pass.

4.4. The captains have the right to approach an Umpire during an interval or after the game for clarification of any rule.

4.5. All matches shall commence and finish at the advertised time and will be sounded by using a ‘hooter’ or similar device. On the final ‘hooter’ the umpire will indicate the end of play by a whistle.

4.6. A team must take the court if there are at least five (5) players present, one of whom must play Centre. Players arriving late are only permitted to enter the game into a vacant position and only immediately after a goal has been scored or following an interval.

4.7. A team unable to take the court at the advertised time shall forfeit the match. If such team cannot take the court within five (5) minutes of the advertised time of the commencement of the game.

4.8. Teams will be allowed to make substitutions during play, this includes during stoppages and intervals. There is no limit to the number of substitutions that can be made, and more than one substitution may be made at any time. Play will not be held up for substitutions.

4.9 The substitutions zone may or may not be marked out on the Court. Substitutions must occur in front a team area.

4.10 The incoming player must wait until the player being replaced exits the court before entering the field of play.

4.11 Players must observe the offside rules when entering the court.

4.12 Match points:

Win = 4 points. Draw = 2 points. Loss = 0 points.

5. Injury time and Blood Policy

5.1. There is no allocated injury time. The injured player is immediately removed from the game, and a substitution is permitted, or if the injured player is unable to be moved, the game will be moved to a vacant court. Replacement and substitution of the injured player is in accordance with standard Netball Queensland rules.

5.2. Both players and the umpire are permitted to call injury time.

5.3. Any court player that has indicated the presence of blood must be immediately removed from the court. The umpire will indicate this by a whistle blow.

5.4. There is no allocated time for blood and the affected player/s must be immediately substituted, or the position/s remains vacant until the blood has been removed. Players may return to the court either after a goal is scored or following an interval.

6. Equipment and Uniform

6.1. Post pads and score sheets will be provided.

6.2. Each team must bring a match ball (size 5). Play will commence with the ball from the team names first on the draw, the other teams ball may be used for the second half of the game.

6.3. Players will not be permitted to take the court if not properly attired.

6.4. Each team must have an alternate set of bibs at their disposal. The team listed first on the draw will be required to change bibs if a clash of colour should

7.1. Breaking the rules and/or employment of any action in a manner contrary to the ‘spirit of the game’ is not permitted.

7.2. All matters pertaining to an umpire’s ruling are not subject to appeal and ‘the decision of the umpires shall be final’.

7.3. The rules of the carnival are final, and no discussion will be entered into regarding their application by officials. Should there be any questions about the rules, the Carnival Convenor will be happy to assist with their interpretation, prior to commencement of play.

7.4. The Carnival Convenor should be consulted for any dispute, and the Carnival Convenor will have the final decision.

8. Championship

8.1. At the end of the round robin, each team will be ranked (1 being the team with the greatest number of points).

8.2. If two teams are on equal points after the rounds, the team that won the corresponding game in the rounds will be ranked higher than the other team. If the game in the rounds was a draw, the ranking will then be decided using ‘points for and against’ calculated from all round games.

8.3 The cross over games will be determined by each team’s ranking at the end of the round robin.

8.4 The Championship team for each age division will be decided in the playoff for 1st and 2nd in the Major Grand Final.

RUGBY CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. General Information

1.2. Players must play within the ARU Age Grade Two-Year Window. No players can be ‘signed’ off to play outside this ‘window’ under any circumstances. Example: A player participating in an Under 12 competition must be turning 11 or 12 years of age during the year in which the competition is run.

1.3. Each school team must be accompanied by a qualified teacher (registered with Queensland College of Teachers) employed from the school.

2. Eligibility of teams

2.1. This is a school-based rugby competition, and as such all competitors must be an enrolled student in the school.

2.2. Each player may only be registered and compete for a single team at any time during competition.

2.3. The following divisions are catered for: Under 10 division: Students who turn 9 and 10 in the calendar year. Under 11 division: Students who turn 10 and 11 in the calendar year. Under 12 division: Students who turn 11 and 12 in the calendar year.

2.4. Team Sizes:

Under 10 division: 10-a-side. Maximum of TWENTY (20) players Under 11 division: 12-a-side. Maximum of TWENTY (20) players Under 12 division: 15-a-side. Maximum of TWENTY-THREE (23) players

2.5. Before the start of the first game only, the list of names in each team must be provided to the tournament organisers. No additions or substitutions are permitted to the team list.

2.6. Unlimited substitutions in all divisions.

2.7. Any infringement of the Conditions of Entry and Playing Conditions could result in immediate disqualification from the carnival.

2.8. All participants must abide by the Rugby Australia’s “Code of Conduct”

2.9. Competent referees will be provided by the tournament organiser. Each team must supply a scorer.

2.10. Dispensation: Refer to Rugby Australia Size for Age Guidelines The guidelines require that players in the age groups Under 10 to Under 15 that fall above or below height AND weight parameters for the age group he/she is turning in the relevant calendar year must undertake an assessment by an Independent Qualified Assessing Coach to determine their appropriate age grade under the Age Grade Dispensation Procedure.

PLAYING CONDITIONS

3. Draw

3.3. We aim for every team to play a minimum of four (4) games throughout the day.

3.5. If there are two pools a final cross over round will be played to determine the winning team.

4. Games

4.1. Students will play a maximum of 90 minutes of rugby throughout the day. It is anticipated that all games shall consist of two halves of ten (8) minutes each, with an interval of three (3) minutes. Teams shall change ends each half. This is subject to change, if necessary.

4.2. The kick-off shall be decided by a ‘coin toss’. The winning captain can choose: a) kick, or b) choice of end.

4.3. The captains have the right to approach an Umpire during an interval or after the game for clarification of any rule.

4.4. All matches shall commence and finish at the advertised time and will be sounded by using a ‘hooter’ or similar device. On the final ‘hooter’ the referee will cease play at the next stoppage.

4.5. All games should be played with equal numbers from both teams. If a team cannot field the maximum number of players, the opposition should match their team size accordingly, until equal team sizes are met. If a team removes a player because of injury, during a game, and they cannot be replaced, the opposition must match the playing numbers for the remainder of the game, or until such time both teams can field full sized teams. Alternatively, one team can provide players to the opposition to balance the numbers. If a player is ‘sent off’, for a yellow or red card infringement, the opposition team will not have to remove a player to equal team sizes. Any player sent off with a ‘red card’ may not return to the field for the remainder of the game.

4.6. A team unable to take the field within 3 minutes of the advertised time shall forfeit the match.

4.7. Pool Games and competition points: Win = 4 points. Draw = 2 points. Loss = 0 points.

4.8. Playing Area:

Under 10 division: 60m x 35m (half field)

Under 11 division: 100m x 60m (full field with sideline 5m in)

Under 12 division: 100m x 70m (full field)

4.9. Scoring:

Under 10 division: 5 point tries, no conversions or penalty goals

Under 11 division: 5 point tries, 2 point conversions, no penalty goals

Under 12 division: 5 point tries, 2 point conversions, no penalty goals

4.10. All laws shall be as per “DNK CUP Junior Rugby Laws Summary” document adapted from Rugby Australia’s Junior Pathway, u6-u12 Rules.

5. Injury time and Blood Policy

5.1. There is no allocated injury time. The injured player is immediately removed from the game and a substitution is permitted, or if the injured player is unable to be moved the game will be moved to a vacant field.

5.2. Both players and the referee are permitted to call injury time.

5.3. If a player is bleeding, they must leave the field. The referee has the right/obligation to order the player off the field. This player can be replaced. The injured player can return to the field, when the Blood Bin rule has been satisfied.

5.4. Concussion: “If in doubt, sit them out”. Refer to the Australian Concussion Guidelines for Youth and Community Sport

6. Equipment and Uniform

6.1. Balls: Under 10 division: size 3; Under 11 and Under 12 divisions: size 4

6.2. Players will not be permitted to take the field if not properly attired. During games, EVERY player must always wear a mouth guard. Referees will ask players to leave the field if this is not adhered to. Head gear and shoulder padding equipment is encouraged but are not compulsory items.

6.3. Rugby boots must not have frayed or sharp edges. All items of jewellery are strictly forbidden and must be removed. Using tape to cover jewellery is not acceptable. Medical bracelets are accepted.

7. Player and Officials Conduct

7.1. Breaking the rules and/or employment of any action in a manner contrary to the ‘spirit of the game’ is not permitted.

7.2. All matters pertaining to an referee’s ruling are not subject to appeal and the referee’s decision is final.

7.3. The rules of the carnival are final and no discussion will be entered into regarding their application by officials. Should there be any questions about the rules, the Carnival Convenor will be happy to assist with their interpretation, prior to commencement of play.

7.4. The Carnival Convenor should be consulted for any dispute and the Carnival Convenor will have the final decision.

8. Championship

The top two teams from each group will progress to the major semi-finals/Grand-Final playoff. The cross over games will be determined by each team’s ranking at the end of the round robin.

8.2. If two teams are on equal points after the rounds, the team that won the corresponding game in the rounds will be ranked higher than the other team. If the game in the rounds was a draw, the ranking will then be decided using ‘points for and against’ calculated from all round games.

8.3. The Championship team for each age division will be decided in the playoff for 1st and 2nd in the Major Grand Final.

8.4. Drawn Play-off Finals. If a Play-off Final is drawn, the team that scored the first points of the game will be deemed the winner. If no tries have been scored, the team with the greatest number of tries scored in total during the tournament will be ranked higher. (Extra time cannot be played due to the 90-minute maximum participation levy).
