ot and Roger Smith, proprietors of Spurbeck’s Grocery, which his grandfather founded more than 75 years ago, announced Tuesday, Oct. 3, they have sold the establishment. While not naming the new owners yet, they said their successors are a local family that intends to continue operating the neighborhood
grocery very much the way they have. That includes the deli and sub shop, the Beer Cave – it offers 100 different brands, and 300 kinds of beers within those brands – and Spurbeck’s extra-sharp, extra-aged New York cheddar cheese, which the grocery now provides to eight local restaurants. ormer Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has donated his vaunted 900-bobblehead collection to the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Hall announced Monday, Oct. 2. The collection has been here on loan from Marlins Park. Hall Chairman Jane Forbes Clark thanked Loria, and call bobbleheads “an integral part of the baseball landscape since the 1960s.” The collection includes such players as Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Ken Griffey, Jr.
