he trail of a former Goodyear Lake man, Casey Callahan, charged with murdering his wife Elizabeth Welsh in 2000, is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 11 at the Otsego County Courthouse. District Attorney John Muehl will seek to prove Callahan came up with the idea to murder Welsh while at their home on Goodyear Lake. Callahan, already serving 12 years in Attica Correctional Facility on a conviction on criminal sexual act in the first degree, is alledged to have run over Welsh with an 18-wheeler at a truck stop in Sayre, Pa on Jan. 19, 2000. Jury selection will begin Thursday, Sept. 7.

COUNTY: SHERIFF SON NEEDS VETTING BEFORE GETTING ANY JOB BACK
he county Board of Representatives has asked for a “rigorous, independent” Article 72 psychological exam before considering whether the sheriff’s son, Ros Devlin, should resume his duties as a guard at the Otsego County jail. “The only one who can force him to do that is the sheriff,” said county Rep. Ed Frazier, RUnadilla, who chairs the Public Safety & Legislative Affairs Committee. So far, Sheriff Richard J. Devlin Jr. has “refused to do it.” The son has been barred from county property since January after an incident inside the jail.
