A smiling former Mayor Sam Nader, now 97, returns Saturday, Sept. 17, to Oneonta Municipal Airport, the scene of his greaatest triumph. Fifty years before to the day, the former mayor, surrounded by such dignitaries at Lt. Gov. Malcolm Wilson and Congressman Sam Stratton, and 5,000 well-wishers, cut the ribbon on what would be two decades of daily passenger air service between Oneonta and LaGuardia and Boston. Nader had achieved construction of the new airport after years of resistance from the county Board of Supervisors and a split Common Council. Les Grummons, himself a long-time pilot, ferried the gleeful mayor by golf cart to a ceremony marking the occasion.

Rathbone Wrote Hospice Success Story By LIBBY CUDMORE

L Rathbone

ola Rathbone has seen firsthand how important Hospice care is. “My mother-in-law spent the last months of her life at home with us,” she said. “We were able to take

care of the home she grew up in and prepare it for sale, so she was actively involved with the closure of her life story. “I know I speak for other families when I say how important that closure is, and it’s difficult to get in a facility.” Please See RATHBONE, A3
