t the peak of the storm that tore across Otsego County Saturday, Aug. 13, knocking out power for 24 hours and killing a camper in Morris, all 20 lines of the new 911 Center at The Meadows were ringing. By the time the crunch passed, 128 calls had been unanswered. “We had four people on staff, more than normal,” said county 911 Director Rob O’Brien. “It all happened so fast, we didn’t have the opportunity to call in more people.” In all, 647 calls came in from 4 p.m. to midnight, more than one a minute, and 128 of them went unanswered. “Normally, unanswered calls would go to Please See 911, A3
