ix months after the resignation of Oneonta Police Chief Dennis Nayor, Mayor Gary Herzig has recommended Nayor’s deputy, acting Chief Doug Brenner, as his permanent replacement. Brenner “More than anything, I was impressed with his philosophy of community policing,” said Herzig, who participated in the search. “He has a good understanding that today’s police departments need to be pro-active and part of the community, rather than just responding to calls.” Herzig made the recommendation to the Finance & Human Resources Committee. Chair Russ Southard, Council member, Sixth Ward, will present the recommendation to Common Council for a vote during their next meeting on Wednesday, July 5.
