With little fanfare, the village has been seeking Downtown Revitalization Initiative money for the past three years, said Trustee Cindy Falk. Oneonta won the money in 2016.

s the rain poured down, Susquehanna Animal Shelter staff and volunteers descended on a Milford home Tuesday morning, Oct. 2, and carried off 53 Lhasa Apsos to the shelter’s safety.

W

hether you called him Everett Alligator or Sweet Pea in high school, one thing about Everett Baroni remains true 37 years after graduation.

“I was voted ‘Friendliest Guy’ by The Echo, our school newspaper,” he said. The Oneonta Baroni High School Alumni Association agrees, Please See BARONI, A2

“This is the most animals we’ve ever taken from a home,” said Stacie Haynes, executive director. “On Monday, the Sheriff let us know of the situation so we could get organized and packed. With so many dogs, we have to make sure we get them properly labeled.” The owner surrendered the dogs to the shelter; they ranged from puppies to 16 years old. “She started out with

a couple of dogs, but it soon became too many dogs,” Haynes said. “She did the right thing by surrendering them to us.” The situation began Monday, Oct. 1, when a sheriff’s deputy was summoned to a dispute at a property in Milford, unidentified because no charges are expected to be filed.
