Pucci succeeds Joan Moyer and Saxton, who were co-chairs in the 201213 years. Also elected were Terry Capuano, vice chair; Cameron Lorenz, treasurer; Betsy Westad-Cunningham, secretary, and board members Bill Davis, Joan Moyer, Robert Moyer, Perrie Saxton, Tom Selover and Bob Wood Board members emeritus are Joann Rasmussen and Erna McReynolds. Bob Moyer, Bob Consigli, Saxton and George Brown provided highlights of the 2012-13 year. Pucci, who is operations manager of Coldwell Banker Timberland Properties, assessed Delaware County’s economic climate. And Barbara Ann Heegan, Otsego County Chamber executive director, did the same for Otsego. TOP SCHOLAR: Krystina Stillwell, a psychology major from Oneonta, is on the Mohawk Valley Community College President’s List for the spring semester. Many, Working Together Made TUFF eNUFF Hit – More To Follow In ’14 To the Editor: On behalf of the LEAF staff and Board of Directors, Body by Stacy and First Night Oneonta, we would like to thank those who helped to make Oneonta’s first 5K Obstacle Challenge, TUFF eNUFF, a magnificent success! With over 450 registered runners, 60 community volunteers and hundreds of family and friends, Neahwa Park came to life with the fun, competitive spirit of the race. By all indications, there were lots of happy, wet, muddy people at the finish line. The City of Oneonta, the police and fire departments, and the city Parks & Recreation Commission really stepped up to assist us in our primary goal: a safe race. From the inception of this crazy little idea, back in August 2012, they were behind us offering support, guidelines and advice. Additionally, Parks & Recreation did yeoman’s labor getting the park ready for racers. In spite of uncooperative weather, the park was both beautiful and safe.

Right up until he died Frank enjoyed working in the jewelry department. Bresee’s Oneonta department store stayed open until 2005. Frank lived most of his life in the Oneonta area. He was born on the family farm in South Hartwick and was one of four children. After Frank married Ella Benjamin and began his business in Oneonta, Frank lived in a house on Maple Street at the head of Walnut Street. He had three sons – Lynn, Clyde, and Fred. He had three grandsons – Wilber, Robert, and Phillip Bresee. Phillip Bresee still lives in the
Oneonta area and is my uncle’s grandfather. Mr. Bresee was an important community member. He was a board member at Hartwick College for 13 years. He was an organizer for the Merchant Association and the Chamber of Commerce. Frank was also a founding board member and president of the Citizens National Bank. He was involved in the Masons and the Kiwanis. Frank was a really big fan of baseball and enjoyed going to games. His last moments were spent watching a Hartwick College baseball game with his son Lynn.

Following are excerpts from the so-called Alderman “Weidman’s Code,” a village ordinance governing the conduct of policemen patrolling in the Main Street and Market Street area of Oneonta: “…it shall be his duty to walk or patrol the entire length of said territory and keep a careful lookout to maintain order and preserve quietness and gentlemanly conduct from all, refraining from conversing with or holding extended conversations with anyone, except so far as is necessary to discharge the duties of his office, as familiarity tends to lessen the dignity and respect which an officer should possess in order to successfully discharge the duties of his trust. Engineers believe that the advent of practicable television has been brought nearer by the latest development of the laboratory at the Institute of Radio Engineers at Chicago. The device is the “Iconoscope,” described by its inventor, Dr. V. K. Zworykin of the R.C.A. laboratories at Camden, New Jersey as having an electric eye more sensitive in some respects than its human counterpart. It can “see” and record the ultra-violet and the infra-red rays invisible to man as well as operate at the speed of a motion picture camera in making an electric copy of an image – in one word television. The Iconoscope, when available for outdoor wireless pictures, apparently will make the televising of baseball games, boxing matches and similar events a comparatively simple manner. July 1933

Local – The Oneonta Symphony Orchestra board of directors has appointed Charles Schneider its musical director for the 1973-1974. Mr. Schneider, a Minnesota native, is spending the summer conducting an orchestra in Spoleto, Italy. Schneider is a 1961 graduate of the Juliard School of Music and has served as musical director for several Broadway and television productions. Frederick C. Paris, an economic development consultant, says Otsego County’s goals for 1984 are not very encouraging. “Tourism is an important part of the county’s economy,” Paris says. In a report to the Otsego County board, Paris tabs the National Soccer Hall of Fame Project as the number one priority. “Development of the Soccer Hall of Fame should lead not only to additional tourist visits, but also to longer tourist stays. Between one-quarter and one-third of the two million private water supplies in upstate New York test positive for bacteria contamination according to environmental chemists at Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology. In a study of 800 private water supplies, a Cornell study found 19 percent were contaminated with bacteria. In a second study, 32 percent of randomly selected wells in three upstate counties were found to be contaminated. Experts recommend that well and spring owners test their water every year. July 1993

When A Child Was Lost, Community Responded To the Editor: Yesterday, July 8, one of the things I fear the most in the world occurred in our Village of Cooperstown; the report of a lost child. I first learned of it LETTERS when a volunteer fireman, canvassing the neighborhood, came into my store and left me a poster of the missing little boy. I immediately searched my property, checking all those hiding places I know my little grandson would love to hide beneath. I then went to the elementary school playground and Badger Park, because I know my grandchildren love those places too. I was told by a parent watching her child at Badger Park that I was the third person she saw searching for the missing child. As I continued through the Village, I saw others leaning out of their car windows telling friends and neighbors about the missing little boy. I rode by the center of the search and saw our village police, sheriff’s deputies, state police and volunteer firemen from our and from neighboring departments, all searching for this missing youngster. Dogs sniffed the sidewalks. I was told volunteers searched inside the Willow Creek culvert. Everyone had one single purpose: find this boy. No one asked who he was; no one asked who his parents

His mother, Prisca, found him missing at 10:27 a.m., and village police, deputies, troopers, K9s and a helicopter from Albany scoured the neighborhood. At 1 p.m., police received a call the boy was in Utica and, with his dad, Dr. Anthony Waddimba, retrieved the lad safely from UCP.
