rom small beginnings only two years ago, Alpenglow is about to share a big stage with a big name. On Thursday, July 25, Alpenglow will share the stage with Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, a nationally touring, award-winning folk rock band at Brewery Ommegang as part of their summer concert series. “They’re the most famous band to come out of Vermont,” said Cooperstown’s Pete Coccoma, who plays guitar and sings in Alpenglow. sorts for Pete, along with bass player Colin Weeks and drummer Kenneth Root, who grew up along Lake Otsego at a time when there was only one local band, Post-Neo. “And we weren’t in it,” said Pete. The three played in the CCS jazz and concert bands; Pete and Kenneth also played for the school musicals. “We all sort of knew each other,” said Pete. “But not as well as we do now.” Colin graduated in 2005; Pete and Kenneth followed in 2007. At Middlebury College, Pete met Elori Kramer, who
played violin and banjo, and Graeme Daubert, a vocalist and guitar player. “We started playing together, and I told them about Kenneth --‘Hey,I know a great drummer at the University of Vermont’,” said Pete. Each musician brought different influences to the group, creating a folk-inspired blend of rock music and vocal harmonies. “A lot of people compare us to Fleet Foxes,” said Pete. On tour, if Elori’s controlling the iPod, they might find themselves listening to Joni Mitchell or Paul Simon. Colin likes Ween, Please See BAND, B8
