Three pensive Lhasa Apsos, a breed that guards palaces and monasteries in Nepal, look out from kennels at the Susquehanna SPCA on Tuesday, Oct. 2. They were among 53 of the little dogs rescued from a Milford home, the largest seizure in the animal shelter’s history. The cache of doggies was discovered after an Otsego County sheriff’s deputy was called to the scene the day before to resolve a neighborhood dispute. Within a week, all the adorable pups had been adopted by families from across Central New York.

Former Schuyler Lake fire chief Bob Hugick, the officer in charge at the scene, stands in the depression where an XNG rig carrying compressed natural gas flipped off Route 28 just south of Schuyler Lake on July 11. The crash, the fourth involving XNG trucks since the Bostonbased company started its “virtual pipeline” between Pennsylvania’s fracking fields and the Iroquois pipeline near Little Falls in February 2017, prompted calls by state Sen. Jim Seward, R-Milford, and others for the company to rethink its strategy. By October, XNG had reduced number of trucks crossing the county daily from 80-90 to a handful, shifting the traffic to straighter, wider Route 8 in Chenango County.

Congressional candidate Antonio Delgado is swamped by thrilled fans like Ginger Heitz, Cooperstown, and Kat Chiba, right, Cherry Valley, when he dropped by the Cherry Valley Kite Festival Sept. 22. At that point, Delgado had already defeated six other candidates in the June 26 Democratic primary, and would go on to defeat the incumbent U.S. Rep. John Faso, R-Kinderhook, in the Nov. 6 general election, despite – or because of – attack ads built around the Rhodes Scholar’s and Harvard Law School grad’s short career as a rap artist in Los Angeles a decade earlier.
